Went through all the bottles and steriliser etc I've been given last night. Got really confused then overwhelmed.
Bottle feeding help needed !!!! So you sterilise everything then to assemble it back together you fix the teat in place by pulling it thro with your hands ? You sterilise 4 bottles, use 1 then what happens to the other 3 ? What do you do if you're out all day or overnight ?????
I'm in a panic !!!!

EsmesBees · 04/02/2017 08:17

I only bottle fed after 10 months adventure so this may be different for a newborn. But once the bottles have been sterilised and got a cap on they remain ready for use for about 24hrs. Yes you use your hands to reassemble the bottles. Just give them a wash first and will be fine.

1004Rise · 04/02/2017 08:25

Stationery maybe I am but I've only had 3 so far so I assumed if you got more as a newbie they'd be early on, can't imagine how you'd have fewer than 3 in 25 weeks Confused Should do a bit of note flicking, assuming yours are the same as mine where does it say that?

Rasperry where are you giving birth? That looks better than some hotels I've stayed in, not sure I'd want to leave!!!

Can't find anything on hospital tours, definitely not fancy enough to have video tours!

I'm not feeling that big, more awkward, finding my bump in odd places, feel a bit like a frog bending over to empty the dishwasher, trying to walk past furniture and not fitting Hmm

teainbed · 04/02/2017 08:29

Also not an expert of bottle feeding but I think the set we had had some tweezers that also got sterilised for you to pull the teat through? Once assembled everything is sterile for 24 hours. But as you can see from MN the debates rage about how to make up formula, store and reheat. See what works for you?

peasandquiet · 04/02/2017 08:43

Adventure what have you been given? Make sure you buy new teats for the bottles and if they have any seals in them replace those too. Some are more of a faff to assemble than others. In the early days when I was pumping 3 hourly I just chucked everything in a cold water steriliser and fished out what I wanted as and when. When I switched to fully bottle we used mam bottles that you just do in microwave assembled a special way, I'd then wash my hand properly and re assemble as carefully as I could trying to only touch bits that's don't contact baby. Would do 4 at a time and then use over 12-24 hours and then repeat. Bottles last 24hours sterilised and re assembled. The whole thing blew my mind when BF failed and I had to work it all out, saying that my 7 or 8 months I just put them in the dishwasher rather than sterilising seperatly. As tea says the whole of MN has diff opinions of what is right or wrong, do what's right for you. (But please don't put powder into cold boiled water, this is a complete waste of time. The formula need to contact water above 70degrees to kill nasties in the formula. Our drinking water is fine in the UK so your not killing anything in that just minerals etc ! Sorry will shut up now !)

Rustler74 · 04/02/2017 08:48

Re bottle feeding, I think Morrisons are having their baby event including tommee tippee bottle feeding stuff at serious reductions. Microwave sterilisers and even the starter set including that machine that prepares the bottle.
I'm hoping to BF as long as I can so hopefully no bottles required.
If I do I'd imagine that JL will have all I need, but I'll always do a price search as they hatch the cheapest price. The tweezers sound like what I'd use.
Trip to ikea with OH today yay!

RasperryInAMelon · 04/02/2017 08:48

Teaspoon and Rise that Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Greenwich. It's been newly renovated. They also allow DHs to stay overnight on wards regardless of where you are too which is comforting to know.

Anyone off to the florists to recreate Beyoncé's bump shoot today?! Grin

Back from fabulous midweek break with DP, his brother and fiancé, caught up with thread last night (hugs to those of you who are having a hard time with various things) and am now super jealous of those of you with getaway plans in next few weeks. I've now got the long stretch until Easter Bank Holiday and the start of maternity leave yay!

Took the ultrasound pig scanner with us to the delight of DP's brother and fiancé, you can now see the bones and toes in the little feet so clearly it's amazing. I can't stop seeing them when I close my eyes Smile Is anyone else now able to feel the actual limbs (no idea which) move when you put your hand on your stomach rather than it feeling like the whole baby is moving? Very weird when they slide a leg or whatever across your belly. I kicked DP last night from the Shock Am due v early in May so this may be to come for lots of you.

Badgerbird · 04/02/2017 09:09

sah glad you are getting sorted out now, scary stuff!!

grow lots and lots of water, old skool soaked prunes, oranges, lentils, exercise. Or maybe try bringing knees up as far as you can towards chest to help get things moving. Hope it improves.

Oh god I'm soooooo over the crazy "sleep"!!! I too am convincing myself and DH it's good practice Confused

Had a proper look at buggies and car seats online last night. Narrowed down to mothercare xtreme travel system only £110 but says sold out when you try and buy it or 2nd hand mountain buggy travel system on eBay that I can't see or try out first. Decisions! Dreamt about them all night (when I wasn't laying wide awake for 2 hours). Woke up this morning thinking door was going as our buggy was being delivered. My brain is mushy.

Off to yoga soon yippee!! Have a lovely day everyone Smile

MrsJW15 · 04/02/2017 09:59

Spent the morning in hospital getting checked out after a period of shortness of breath and palpitations late last night. Called the out of hours GP who called back in the middle of the night and advised going to A and E. A and E sent us straight up to maternity just as they opened (6am) so spent a while being checked there. All looks fine but quite scary, especially as we are going away today (and now running late for a flight eeek).

Rustler74 · 04/02/2017 11:39

Oh Mrs JW I hope you're sorted now! Make sure they check your bloods for TFT as well, as you have described some symptoms which are also seen in low thyroxine. I hope you can enjoy your trip xxx take it easy and look after yourself Flowers

EsmesBees · 04/02/2017 11:53

That sounds really scary MrsJW. Hope you make your flight. Take it easy if you can!

Rustler74 · 04/02/2017 16:22

Ikea trip cancelled as OH came down with flu symptoms. He's not a wuss so I'll have to look after him a bit, bless him. Bored on the sofa, but managed to keep myself busy counting little football star!
Hope he's better tomorrow! Wish you all a nice weekend x what is on your agenda?

Barnes79 · 04/02/2017 16:45

Just had my sister and my two youngest nephews visit (age 3 and 5). It all ended in chaos and tantrums! I've got it all to look forward to Confused

Sah1987 · 04/02/2017 17:09

We've had a lazy day today. DP & DD went to a daddy group today whilst I washed up & did some washing.
I'm taking it easy as chest still really tight, but my partner is moving the bedroom around tomorrow so I have drawers free to out baby bits in as they are starting to flood in from friend and family now! X

PeachIcedT · 04/02/2017 18:45

Hello, just catching up with this fast moving thread!

I've been thinking about a water birth too as some people I've been speaking too have had very positive experiences- Esme I suppose the sieve and mirror are necessary items but does everyone really need to buy their own? Might be a stupid question but it seems a bit wasteful, especially the mirror for everyone to buy!

Dream I just love that you have a ultrasound pig scanner, if I had access to that I'd be doing the same, must be so interesting to see extra. I'm not sure what limbs I can feel but definite change in type of movement, with lots of sliding - some of it quite uncomfortable.

I'm at increasing risk of developing an outie belly button and trying to remain rational!

MrsJW I'm glad now all is ok, that must've been a scare. Hope you now enjoy where you are flying to.

I've been to a nearly new sale again today and picked up some great clothes but Best Buy were some second hand little lamb bamboo nappies - got 15 nappies, 10 wraps and lots of liners for £20. Have watched the video on how to use them and think I may have some sort of idea on what I'm doing now!

Jugoo28 · 04/02/2017 19:03

Baby decided to make itself known this weekend and popped out, I'm feeling very bumpy now!

@raspberryinamelon that looks amazing, very jealous! Our hospital looks nothing like that! And it's what's called a tertiary hospital here so women get flown in from over the lower north and upper south islands from if things are going badly so apparently it is also always very busy and noisy.

peasandquiet · 04/02/2017 19:04

Not sure if I dreamt it but do some of you have the Ikea hemnes day bed in your nurseries?
If I didn't dream that have you got a proper sprung mattress on it or the foam one they sell in the package deal?

MrsJW15 · 04/02/2017 19:10

Thanks ladies, it was a scary morning and very odd being on a delivery ward! It's not the hospital we are planning to use so that confused them. We made the flight and are now in Jerusalem. Not the most relaxing start to our break!

savagehk · 04/02/2017 19:33

peach can't sterilise a sieve (not sure about mirror) afaik? Hope all the poorly mums-to-be feel better soon. I'm very unwell with a chest infection, never been so exhausted/out of breath. Trying to decide whether to go to walk in tomorrow.

savagehk · 04/02/2017 19:36

Jugoo last post intrigued me, where do you stay?

EsmesBees · 04/02/2017 19:40

I think it depends on the hospital peach. When I had DD I didn't need to bring them, this time I'm at a different hospital and they say to bring both. I guess your midwife will tell you if you need to get your own?

Poor you savage. Sounds nasty. Probably worth getting checked out.

My toddler is going through one of her nap refusing stages. God it's exhausting without a break. DH was out all day today, and although I had a lovely day with her, I could have done with a sit down and a cuppa.

Jugoo28 · 04/02/2017 19:48

@savagehk I'm in NZ. There aren't really any forums like this here :( Maternity care here is great if everything is going well but not so great if things go wrong and you live out of the main centres or if you live rurally. My cousin lives on a farm and she'll probably have to move into town for a few weeks before her baby is born. But even then the town doesn't have a nicu so if anything went wrong she would have to be flown to the city I live in which is on another island to her!

savagehk · 04/02/2017 19:59

Sheesh Jugoo that's a bit stressful! Esme yeah, i went to Gp Monday and he signed me off for week but still no better :( can only imagine lung capacity already reduced due to baby and now I'm operating on half or less of normal capacity.
