It sounds like Primark or somewhere similar would be good for hospital stuff. I'm really hoping that someone decides they want to buy me a nice robe for afterwards/wearing around the house like this onewww.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=1068175&vid=1&pid=000982064000

lullaby23 · 30/01/2017 11:59

I don't get on with Gaviscon or Rennies so take Zantac (ranitidine) at night or I will wake up with horrible heartburn at silly o'clock. DS is teething and was up a few times last night so I didn't get proper sleep until 2 and feel like a zombie today, not looking forward to the sleep deprivation to come! BH here today though so had a nice family brunch out.

lullaby23 · 30/01/2017 12:03

I had something like this for hospital www.mothercare.com/nighties/nursing-nightdress-and-robe-set/LLC364.html#q=Dressing+gown&lang=default&start=2 it was great and still use the dressing gown now. I'm sure you can find a cheaper version at Primark or similar though. I ditched wearing nighties after a while though and prefer a nursing vest and bra with pj bottoms for all day during the first few weeks bed.

Maybe it's a hint that I need to change from circus theme to wildlife theme 😂

MrsJW15 · 30/01/2017 12:27

Lullaby I fully expect to spend the first few weeks in vest and leggings/pjs. The dressing gown is basically to throw over if someone visits and I don't want to get dressed!

Any thoughts on a maternity support belt? I've got physio booked for Friday, but we go away Saturday and I am thinking of buying something pre-emptively (can always return). Don't know if I should go for cheaper JoJo/Mothercare options or something more expensive.

uptown8617 · 30/01/2017 12:29

The only thing I'd add about the nightie is to remember to buy bigger as it's not a maternity piece. I've just realised I've bought my regularly size so I'll definitely not fit the bump in by then! I'll have to take it back and swap for an oversized one. Blush

lullaby23 · 30/01/2017 12:40

mrsjw definitely, good to set your expectations! I will be all about big pants and leggings for sure.

EsmesBees · 30/01/2017 12:40

I had the same nightie and dressing gown set as Lullaby. Don't buy anything too hot. Maternity wards are normally boiling (and I found I was naturally really hot the weeks after giving birth).

MrsJW my JoJo one was £24 and it's great. I can tell the difference, especially when carrying my toddler. I only wear it when walking around. It's not very comfy for sitting in the office.

1004Rise · 30/01/2017 12:43

Welcome uptown yeay, another due date buddy!! Grin

I'm having a bit of a dopey day, can't concentrate on anything for more than 2 minutes which is not helping work get done Hmm

teainbed · 30/01/2017 12:53

I must buy something to have the baby in! I don't own any nighties or anything like that. Primark is probably a good idea as it'll just get binned straight away.

It'll be really nice having a Spring baby as when we're getting up all the time at night it won't be as cold as it is just now.

savagehk · 30/01/2017 13:00

I laboured mostly naked last time tbf. I was in the pool for a long while (and with all the exams etc, which I might refuse this time, it's easier to be bottom-less). After that it was hospital gown. For afterward, with skin to skin and bf being established, a nursing bra plus something that opens down the front is essential. Also, underwear a size bigger than normal so you can fit the mahoosive maternity pads in.

For getting up doing feeding etc at night... cosleeper from day 1 here. If it works like last time, that means I don't need to 'get up' out of bed at all.

MrsJW15 · 30/01/2017 13:36

Thanks Esmes that belt might be helpful for this trip - and I have 15% off JoJo at the moment. Wonder how quickly I can sort delivery!

ginandcake · 30/01/2017 14:11

I bought a really expensive nighty to labour in the first time which was so disgusting by the end that it went straight in the bin! Such a waste of money. Bought a cheap button front one from Primark second time round but then laboured in the pool in just a bra so did not wear it until afterwards so still have it now.

I agree that light PJs/night dresses and dressing gowns are the best for the post natal ward because it does get really hot. And some cheap flip flops for the showers were also very useful!

WishIWasSleeping · 30/01/2017 14:24

Such a fun day so far today... Hmm
I have a cold ... for about the last week, so am feeling rough anyway, had my whooping cough injection first thing this morning, then started my GTT. Squished in a routine MW appt towards the end of the GTT and she tells me my blood pressure is a bit high... (Really! Shock) and that I need to be tested again within 48hrs... (history of hypertension) so it's been fab that I didn't get to work until almost 1pm today, I now have to wait around tomorrow and make childcare plans if it's not dropped as they'll send me to the MAU! Joys.. Grin
I'm pretty sure the cold, the starvation (!) and the whooping cough jab will have contributed to my slightly raised BP!
Hey ho.. who wants to work full days anyway!! Grin

peasandquiet · 30/01/2017 14:41

What was you BP wish? Mine was borderline high for the whole of third trimester last time. I'm a bit worried today, have an intermittent headache and wearing my glasses and a couple of paracetamol have done nothing. Have drs Wednesday so will ask them to check my BP then just incase.

EsmesBees · 30/01/2017 14:48

Good tip about the flip flops gin. I remember my NCT teacher saying to keep hold of one of DH's old t shirts to labour in as you'd just throw it away. But I didn't get round to wearing anything so he went home in it!

lucieloos · 30/01/2017 14:50

Just a really quick question...I know this probably sounds crazy but how doable would it be for me to do a 5 day course when the baby is 5-6 weeks old?

EsmesBees · 30/01/2017 15:21

Depends Lucie. If you are bfeeding then probably not. They still feed all the time at that age. If you are not, and have someone to leave the baby with, then maybe, but you will be tired, and probably emotional. Plus if you have a c section you'll still be recovering physically.

peasandquiet · 30/01/2017 15:22

Lucie anything is 'do able' but honestly, to me it would have to be a pretty critical course to even consider it. At 5 weeks it is entirely possible that you will still be physically feeling like you've been hit by a bus, could still be bleeding, leaking milk etc. You will more than likely be waking every 2-3 hours overnight for feeds and could be very emotional still. It depends on your support team at home and how you intend to feed. If your BF then I expect it would be beyond complicated trying to express and store in breaks. However saying all that, if you need to go you could but I'm not sure the potential sacrifices are worth it.

savagehk · 30/01/2017 15:24

lucie I wouldn't really want to. I did go on a 1.5 day conference when DS was just over 6 weeks, but it was only doable with OH tagging along, taking the time off work, and staying in the hotel with us and bringing him to me between sessions for feeds. If you are bf, you can leave expressed milk in the minibar for feeding baby, but your boobs will need emptying about every 2 hours before it becomes uncomfortable or you spring a leak, so baby needs to come with. Obviously if this is a very 'family oriented' course perhaps you can take baby with & into sessions, mine was a very professional conference (think suits). You also won't know if baby is colicy or contented until much closer to the time....

lucieloos · 30/01/2017 15:35

Arghh thank you that's pretty much what I thought. If I did the 5 day course it would enable me to do a couple of hours work a week on a weekend or evening over a period of 9 months which would literally pay for the whole of my maternity leave so it's an amazing opportunity but the course is completely at the wrong time really. It would involve leaving early in the morning around 7.30am and returning maybe as late as 19.00 for the 5 days. I know my mum would look after the baby for those 5 days but I do intend on trying to breast feed and providing I got on with it then that would be very difficult as i wouldn't be able to see the baby at all during the time I am away from the house. It's just a lot of money to lose out on but I guess it's at the wrong time?

RasperryInAMelon · 30/01/2017 15:44

No way you can do the course before LO arrives Lucie or a similar course you could do as a distance learning thing from home?

OP posts:
teainbed · 30/01/2017 16:02

lucie it's not impossible but unlikely that you'll feel up to it! Even if you've physically recovered and are bottle feeding emotionally it would be hard to leave a very young baby. Also that assuming the baby arrives on time and you're not 2 weeks overdue?

I prefer breastfeeding vest tops and PJ bottoms for the hospital but for labouring in a nightshirt will do! Never been an option for me to use a pool or anything and two of three labours have been overnight and it was actually quite cool on the labour ward!

Rustler74 · 30/01/2017 16:18

I like the nightshirt idea. Gonna get another one long enough so I can easily be bottomless.
I'm soooo tired after a few hours trip into London to meet Belgian friends on a day trip. Walked home from the station to save me the taxi trip back. 7500 steps, 5.8km done Shock Me thinks a nap is on the books!

lucieloos · 30/01/2017 16:50

No it's a course for a specific project which will only run for 9 months so the government agency that is running it is organising a one off 5 day course for those that will be taking part so there's no opportunity to do it another time. I allowed for the baby being 2 weeks late in my calculations so if it were on time it would be more like 7-8 weeks old.
