It's a bit of a faff constantly taking blood sugar readings and remembering to take tablets and insulin but can't complain too much. It's contributed to the baby being big though. They said amniotic fluid tends to be too high too. There's a higher risk of emcs with diabetes and they have to monitor you through labour so no water birth. The baby could be born with low blood sugar although I understand they get you to feed straight away or if it's too low then it will need to be taken to the care unit.

However I'm presenting breech and my fluid levels are low so they said it's unlikely to turn now and I will have a c section. Got an appt on Monday. I'll be going in twice a week for monitoring from next week. Up until now I've just had weekly appts.

Must say I'm impressed with the NHS, the care I've received has been great.

I

peanut2017 · 04/03/2017 11:56

Purple that's a lot to deal with. Does the diabetes just go after pregnancy?

Went to aqua aerobics this morning which was nice. Going out for dinner with friends later would love to just get in my pjs!

Husband at home trying to put the changing dresser together & going to pick up buggy & car seat later.

I assume they will show us how to do the car seat?

purpleviolet1 · 04/03/2017 12:14

Hi peanut. They said diabetes is very common in pregnancy (1 in 5) but I actually had pancreatic cancer a few years ago and they told Me I would probably become
Diabetic straight away. I was very fortunate that I didn't , so it's not really a massive surprise that I've become diabetic during pregnancy. Hopeful it will go away after. I'm going to try my very best after baby is here to get weight back down and healthy diet.

Our baby stuff is arriving on Monday and it feels quite exciting! It's being delivered but if you are collecting from store then yes they can definitely show you how to fit it. We will probably take ours in to get checked.

peanutbutter310 · 04/03/2017 20:23

Peanut With John Lewis we had to book an appointment for our car seat fitting, as it meant the assistant leaving that section of the shop. A lot of shops have seats in the car seat section for demos, but we wanted to get everything checked with our specific car.

I ventured to the swimming pool today, it felt so good not to have to carry the weight of bump for an hour! Hope everybody else is having a good weekend!

peanut2017 · 05/03/2017 08:16

Wow purple you really have been through it! Amazing. Another girl in yoga had her baby and only two year ago after losing a baby they discovered she had cysts on her ovaries & had one removed. They did ivf & got pregnant.

Went to the place where we ordered the buggy, car seat etc and even though I rang them on Monday and said we were coming in they told us the car seat wasn't in. We got the buggy & the base thingy you put on your car that the car seat goes in to but she was going to just show us in the shop. Said no want you to show is in the car which we did

The car seat is going to be delivered but once you know how to put the base thingy in is it just a case of popping in the car seat?

Also should we take the buggy out to practice but with the size of me not sure how easy it will be to put up and down?

purpleviolet1 · 05/03/2017 08:37

I think so peanut..it's meant to just clip in to the base. That's nice about the girl at yoga Smile our delivery is coming tomorrow! Wondering if I should open it all up....

36+2

amelie427 · 05/03/2017 08:48

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! So exciting to think that more babies will start arriving soon 😊. Ordered the push-chair this week, and John Lewis delivery arriving in a couple of weeks... it's all getting very real.

Question to the second/third/fourth-timers.... when did you get nursing bras? I'm quite well-endowed already, and my boobs grew a lot at the start of pregnancy, but haven't in the last couple of months. I know they will get bigger still when the milk comes in. Should I wait until then to get nursing bras? Or should I get a couple now, and a couple more when the milk comes in? I'm sure this will all be discussed in my NCT BF session but I would still like to hear from others.

peanutbutter310 · 05/03/2017 09:52

Yep, it's pretty easy to clip the seat in. Our maxi-cosi base has a light that lets you know it's on correctly, so you can't do it wrong without realising.

purpleviolet1 · 05/03/2017 10:40

That sounds handy peanut

My friend suggested going to mothercare at around 38 weeks to get measured , and then buy from Asda George. She swears by George and said they are far the best quality and most reasonable. She has just had her 4th so is well experienced now. I might be having a section though so I'm going into store on Tuesday. See what they say. I'll probably buy at least one just now.

purpleviolet1 · 05/03/2017 10:40

I'll be 36+4 on Tuesday.

jpeg28 · 05/03/2017 10:53

I know peanut it's crazy they haven't sorted anything out... and makes me feel like I definitely can't go early as I would be leaving kids with no teacher. Not very fair!
Glad all is well with you... I have no idea how much babies should weigh at this stage! 5lb 8oz sounds good Grin
I'm 33+5 and the last time I was scanned at 28 weeks baby was almost 3lb so I reckon mine will be a similar weight!

Amelie I have 3 nursing bras... 1 with underwire as my boobs are gigantic! And 2 without. I'm the same that my boobs grew at the start and haven't for a while. But I'm thinking I may have to buy some more when my milk comes in if they get bigger! But it's so hard to find them in my size. I have two "large" ones from m&s but they are too big in the back... everywhere like mothercare etc doesn't make them big enough!! At my NCT bf session there was no mention of nursing bras and I wish I had asked. I did ask about expressing as I was worried the pump wouldn't fit my huge ones! She said you can buy bigger parts for it Blush

marmitecheesetoast · 05/03/2017 11:30

After seeing a recommendation on another thread I bought the Ilovesia maternity nursing bras 3 pack from Amazon - have been wearing them for last few weeks and they are really comfy! Hopefully they will be good for nursing too. They come in s, m, l etc rather than cup sizes and seem quite adaptable size wise as quite stretchy while still being supportive and have 4 clasp settings at the back. May well need bigger ones when my milk comes in but they seem great for now.

Exciting about your delivery purple!
I really hope they get your cover sorted soon jpeg that's crazy!

jpeg28 · 05/03/2017 11:40

Thanks Marmite I'll order those... do you mind me asking what size you are and what you went for? I have had a look at the questions on Amazon... I think I may have to go for XL as I'm a 34H!

everdene · 05/03/2017 14:06

Those Amazon nursing bras sound good!

abeandhalo · 05/03/2017 14:58

I started looking online to order nursing bras but all the websites said don't bother until at least 36 weeks so I'll order some when I'm on leave. Need to order some nursing vests as well, I'm not sure how many of my clothes are particularly BF-friendly!

peanut2017 · 05/03/2017 15:12

Hey I can second the ilovesia bras - got large but have ordered extra large and also their vests as someone recommended them to me. They are very soft.

Anyone heard of taking raspberry leaf tablets - meant to help soften your cervix, less tears etc?

Started the perineum massage and it was sore first time but has definitely got easier the more I'm getting used to it. Should be propped up on pillows, easier after a bath and deep breathing helps

marmitecheesetoast · 05/03/2017 16:39

No problem jpeg yeah sounds like you may need XL. I was a 34B pre-pregnancy and am currently about 36C and I have the medium. I have them on the second tightest fitting and they fit well just now with hopefully some room for extra growth. I needed new comfier bras anyway and so thought may as well get them and double up as use as nursing. Will get bigger ones if needed down the line.

Haven't thought at all about nursing clothes otherwise though! Vaguely thinking about lots of nursing vests/t shirts and loose cardis over the top - hoping with it coming into spring that should be fine!

Good to hear the perineum massage hasn't been too bad peanut how many weeks were you when you started? That was on my list of things for the next few weeks but I guess I'll wait and see what they say at placenta re-scan on Wednesday as may well be having a planned section booked in then in which case I guess no need for perinieal massage Hmm

I'd heard raspberry leaf tea can be effective in making you less likely to go overdue/have a very long labour but not sure there's much evidence base for it. Apparently you need to drink about 8 cups a day as well. Our NCT teacher said not to start it til after 37 weeks though as a very small percentage of people are incredibly sensitive to it which can bring on sudden labour!

peanut2017 · 05/03/2017 19:12

Started the massage last week at 33 weeks marmite - after the 4th go it was easier. Good to know about the raspberry leaf tablets I'll hold off for a couple of weeks so!

How many nighties / pj's are you bringing to hospital?

peanutbutter310 · 05/03/2017 20:34

I keep thinking I ought to start the perinieal massage, but always find a way to procrastinateConfused Good to hear it gets easier, just have to grit my teeth and get started I suppose!

Got some raspberry leaf tea in the cupboard waiting until I hit 36 weeks. My DSis has used it before all four of her easy labours, who knows if it contributed but worth a try.

purpleviolet1 · 05/03/2017 20:44

I've also heard melting a bit of butter in a glass of hot milk and drinking daily can help with labour. To start around 36 weeks. I'm most likely having a c section now so not going to bother...

These nursing bras sound good, I'll have a look! Bought a nursing vest top from mothercare, I think it was around £20 and felt it was a little expensive.. I'll have a look on Amazon as well x

Celticlassie · 05/03/2017 20:48

H&M have a few nursing tops that I might go for, but am overall hoping that a vest with another vest / t-shirt on top might do ok.

Just ordered these bras from Amazon too. Fingers crossed. I can't bring myself to haul myself into a changing room to try on bras.

HLBug · 05/03/2017 22:10

I have been a total hormonal mess today. Parents FaceTimed at lunch today to say they'd come for a visit next Sunday. No idea why but it totally set me off - angry, sad, melancholy etc etc. Had to spend most of the afternoon in bed by myself whilst DH took DS to the park for 'a bit of fresh air'. Just about starting to feel a bit more normal now! Stupid crazy pregnant lady hormones... Confused

peanut2017 · 06/03/2017 06:30

Thinking of you! Your husband would be proud of you

MyGreenSofa · 06/03/2017 07:54

Ugh the preggo rage! Mine hasn't been too bad this time but was awful last time. But the other day I did have a meltdown about my 2 year old DD not eating her dinner which resulted in her having to comfort me. Such a fail!
