New thread for the lovely ladies due in April 2017. Suddenly there's only 3 months to go! And the thread has already welcomed two special, early arrivals.

Please continue chatting here!

peanut my work haven't even got a replacement yet. They are so disorganised! They hired two new teachers, and I was part of the interview process and even though one of them wanted to start in April, the head said no! I had to say something last week because it makes me really anxious that they have no one to take my classes. I'm due in 8/9 weeks and planning to work for 7 more. I keep saying to them that they should sort something out but still nothing!
In terms of your job, you are entitled to the exact same job if you take up to 6 months off and if longer then you are entitled to a job (as far as I'm aware they could make changes). Have you got a HR manager you could chat to?

abeandhalo · 17/02/2017 20:19

I haven't washed anything yet but everyone on here is so I guess I'm supposed to? Most of our clothes are second hand so I suppose it makes sense!

peanutbutter310 · 17/02/2017 21:28

Peanut My work decided not to bring in cover, so it was pretty straightforward to hand over to existing team members.

Everything we've bought so far is still in the bags, but plan is to get it all washed and sorted into drawers over the next few weeks.

ChatEnOeuf · 18/02/2017 06:58

Purple, I'll be a March date too - due 13th Apr but early induction.

No mat cover here either, the rest of the team will just have one fewer on the rota. It's a bit rubbish but there aren't enough of us at the best of times.

abeandhalo · 18/02/2017 07:29

Sounds like I'm v lucky, I've had my maternity cover in full-time since Jan, so by now I've really taken a step back as he does the day-to-day tasks & I just oversee / advise really. I think when I come back he'll stay on & I'll be promoted to manager but ideally that bit will be sorted out before I go. Hmm

peanut2017 · 18/02/2017 07:54

Interesting to hear what other peoples employers are doing. My boss is panicking and wants them to have some handover with me. Did involve me in some interviews and then not others. She met 3 others on Wednesday & I emailed her yes to see how they went & they are bringing 2 people to next round with our CEO next Wednesday when I'm not available.

Feel they have badly managed the whole thing but need to let it go! Awake since 4am this morning & thoughts of work keep coming in and out! Silly really have more important things to look forward to Smile

Going to aqua aerobics soon so that should be a good distraction & meeting friends for dinner later

Anyone doing anything nice over the weekend?

MrsG2017 · 18/02/2017 08:04

Checking in thanks for the thread.
Due 5th April not long now !

MrsG2017 · 18/02/2017 08:12

Reading everyone's comments about mat leave you lucky (sensible) ladies finishing soon. I said I would work until due date!

First baby thinking now that I was completely and utterly deluded !!! May have to sweet talk the boss in to some working from home!

everdene · 18/02/2017 09:01

I've got three weeks to go at work but two of those are with my handover, so really a week left in my actual job.

I do feel like I'm slowing down a bit so can't wait to finish really!

PinkUnicorn1990 · 18/02/2017 10:16

My last day is on Friday Smile 2 weeks annual leave then into mat leave. No replacement for me as yet though! Can't wait, definitely slowing down!

marmitecheesetoast · 18/02/2017 10:51

I'm currently shortlisting for my maternity cover Peanut and will be on the interview panel in a weeks time. So I've been pretty involved (actually struggling to fit in the shortlisting among all the other projects I've ben trying to finish off Hmm) but unfortunately they are not keen on paying two people at once so there will be no handover time.

I washed all the up to 1 month baby clothes and muslins on one of my days off last week so they are ready to go in hospital bag (I have piles of stuff but nothing actually packed into bags yet and still a last few bits to pick up). I still need to wash blankets etc though.

Does anyone else get a really alarming quite loud 'clunk' in their pelvis when they turn over from one side to the other for the millionth time in bed at night? It really sets my teeth on edge!

Also those sitting at desks all day at work, how are you managing? I really struggle with being uncomfortable now and bump being in the way! Tempted to take in birthing ball to sit on at desk but then I won't have it at home and can't really be bothered with buying a second one at this point when only 5 weeks left in work Hmm

purpleviolet1 · 18/02/2017 11:04

Hi all,

I've packed hospital bag (well got it all together in a suitcase) but I am planning to wash the clothes beforehand so will need to unpack/pack again lol. Will do that when ML starts in 2 weeks when I'll be 36 weeks.

Not getting a replacement for me st work as such as I work in ops and there is constant change, in November shortly after I announced I got moved out of my
Team to work on a project which is winding up now and they got a replacement for me in the team. When I go back though I likely won't go back into ops and manager said I can have a think about where I would like to go. Ops is too hectic and shift work so would be difficult with childcare. Working at 200% capacity at all times and it's just so stressful. The project I've been on was a big welcome and has helped me work for longer than I otherwise would've I think. It has been stressful but on the days I haven't felt up to it I've been able to pace myself and catch up the next day.

Hayls17 · 18/02/2017 12:46

I'm handing over to somebody already in my team, it's still stressful though as our hours are on a tight budget and we have found it really hard to find time to go over things one to one. I have another week to go then we are doing a 3 week handover.

Out of interest, is anyone considering a career change after maternity leave? This is my first baby so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm pretty sure I would struggle to go back to my current role full time. I haven't broached the subject but I get the impression that doing less hours or a job share would not be an option.

finova · 18/02/2017 13:16

I've got 8 working days left and no-one has applied for my post! We are short staffed anyway but they'll just have to cajole an existing member of staff to take on some of the work.
Added hospital bag supplies to my online shop!

JennyOfOldstones · 18/02/2017 20:05

I am quite uncomfortable at work but walking around as much as possible helps. Had to lower my chair to fit my bump under the desk so I am practically sitting on the floor, which causes much hilarity in the office.

No specific mat cover for me but someone has come back into the team from her mat leave, having gone off when I came back after DD. We keep saying we are tag teaming!

purpleviolet1 · 18/02/2017 21:06

Hauls, not a complete career change but I don't think I'll be going back into ops. Hoping to go into a projects team or something similar where the hours aren't as fixed and easier to manage with childcare etc.

SharkBastard · 18/02/2017 22:11

Ooo very jealous of this week on maternity already! 4 weeks and counting for me!

Hayls, I'm changing career, I've been given an unconditional offer to study my masters in Forensic Psychology, my work don't know that yet, but I will inform them later in the year that I won't be returning. I should become chartered in 4 years, then baby will be starting school and I can really kick my career off.

I've been relatively lucky this pregnancy with pain, slight pelvic discomfort, but nothing too bad. It sounds bloody awful so I feel for you all!

SharkBastard · 18/02/2017 22:12

*those on maternity leave already. Stupid fat thumbs Grin

abeandhalo · 19/02/2017 07:21

Last night I actually lost count of the amount of times I got up to pee. We had a Chinese takeaway which was so salty that I kept drinking water right up until going to bed, the result was not fun!

I expect that I will go back to my same job but I am also considering the option of freelancing. It's something I'll certainly be looking in to while I'm on leave.

MyGreenSofa · 19/02/2017 07:32

Ooo a masters in forensic psychology sounds very interesting shark.

I'm so sick of all the congestion! Get so blocked up & also full of mucus at the same time and sleep is such a struggle. This baby seems to be quite active at night too so probably a sign of things to come!

SharkBastard · 19/02/2017 08:28

I woke at 2am to go for my 2nd pee and could not get back to sleep as this boy was having it large till 4am. I'm shattered, and yes Green I think you're right, it's a sign of things to come! Joy!!

finova · 19/02/2017 12:57

Love the sound of Forensic Psychology. Do you work in a similar area currently?
What would you like to go into?

SharkBastard · 19/02/2017 15:04

I currently work in a totally unrelated field, but did my degree in psychology and criminal behaviour 3 years ago, so will volunteer during my masters like I did during my degree and then hopefully get a job in either the NHS, prison or judicial service. Should be an interesting ride!

peanutbutter310 · 19/02/2017 15:19

I've just got back from Mothercare, picked up a bump support belt and can't believe the almost instant difference it made to my SPD. Still in pain, but much less and DH commented that my waddle isn't as pronounced with it on.

Those of you who are suffering, I highly recommend getting one!

jpeg28 · 19/02/2017 16:32

Shark that sounds so interesting!! If I ever changed careers that would definitely be a dream job!
No plans to change job for me. Aiming to go back 4 days and week and do the same job but we will see how it goes! We are planning a big move from Brighton down to Exeter when the baby is about 1 so hoping I can reduce days even more then!!
