Peanut - that's bad about the cleaner! Seems rather sudden, perhaps she is having a tough time. Still, no excuse for stealing!

I'm 30 weeks now - it's speeding. We have had second bedroom redecorated & in process of getting it recarpeted then can get some furniture in. That will be DD's room (she will be making the move from cot to bed, dreading it!) and only once that's done can I sort the nursery for the new baby & wash the clothes etc. As otherwise nowhere to put them! Starting to panic a bit!

MyGreenSofa we moved DS into his new bedroom 2 weeks ago to free up the nursery. He went from cot bed to single bed and I was, like you, dreading it, but he's been absolutely brilliant! Keeps talking about his 'big boy room' and that the other room is now his sisters room. Phew! The massive dinosaur stickers on all the walls may have helped a bit...

peanut that is utterly ruby bush about all your things. I take it you've reported to police? You'll probably need a crime number to claim your insurance. Horrid to think that someone you've trusted for so long could let you down like that.

abeandhalo · 05/02/2017 18:52

Yes the heartburn has kicked up a notch here too!

We were also up for about half an hour in the night with some powerful round ligament pains. At least it gave me a chance to practice my hypnobirthing breathing techniques!

We've got a few days off this week now so going to get the hospital bag ready and put the changing table up and then we'll be pretty much good to go!

peanut2017 · 05/02/2017 19:32

Haven't reported it yet. Wasn't sure if police would take it seriously but you are right we will need a report from them for the insurance company. Part of me does feel that she must have been desperate but still horrible to know someone would do that!

abercorn · 06/02/2017 12:47

Hi ladies, hope everyone is managing ok.
Peanut, sorry to hear about the incident. A police complaint is indeed in order.

I was impressed with all the planning you wonderful ladies have done around shopping and nursery arrangements.
I am just starting now.
Can i pls check if anyone has had any experience im pushchair buying from kiddicare or mothercare (basically other than johnlewis). The prices seem to be cheaper sometimes on others compared to john lewis but i was wondering if there was a catch or poor after sales service.

Thanks so much for the guidance in advance!

Have a lovely day.

PinkUnicorn1990 · 06/02/2017 13:30

Peanut sorry to hear about your police incident!
Abe getting very tired now, counting down the weeks left at work! (3!)

Hope everyone else is doing ok Smile scary how close we all are to our babies arriving!! Shock

MyGreenSofa · 06/02/2017 13:32

Kiddicare and mothercare can both be pretty rubbish customer service to be honest! Kiddicare was better when you could go in store. I've had orders with both where items (from kiddicare it was a buggy) have turned out to be out of stock after they've taken payment then I have to chase them for refund. Equally, I've had plenty orders of other stuff from both places that have been fine!

I had to call in sick today as the SPD kept me awake all night. I've said I won't be back this week, so need to call the GP for a sick line. Can't imagine it will be an issue though. I'm meant to be on annual leave for half of next week and just on Thursday & Friday so I will try to get back in then and then I'm on mat leave anyway.

HLBug · 06/02/2017 13:56

abercorn John Lewis after care is fab - when the steering on my pram went a bit dodge they sent it back to suppliers for me and gave me a replacement buggy in the meantime. They also do price match so if you find cheaper elsewhere just tell them and they'll match it for us.

abercorn · 06/02/2017 14:46

Thank you very much greensofa and hlbug!

abercorn · 06/02/2017 14:48

Oh Keith, hope you get some rest and feel better.
One of the girls at my yoga class had pain as well and she said certain poses helped her.

marmitecheesetoast · 06/02/2017 17:02

Oh no Peanut that's awful, what a horrible feeling!

Sorry to hear about your bad night sleep and SPD pain Keith hope you get some relief soon

I've also had a few really crappy nights sleep. Anyone else wake up with hip/upper thigh/butt muscle pain every hour or two??!

I've started on 4 day weeks as of now as I use up some of my leave woohoo! So have been off today. Had a lovely swim this morning while pool was nice and quiet! And have just put first load of baby clothes, muslins etc in wash eeeek feels like a bit of a mile stone!! So can start getting hospital bags packed and organised! On that front, sorry as I know I think this has probably been covered up thread a while back but on the hospital bag -

How many vests and sleepsuits to pack for baby? Thinking 3/4/5??
How many nappies to pack?
How many PJ/nightie options for me for after the birth? Thinking ?2 nursing nighties and 1 pair of PJ bottoms with nursing vest? ?

Thanks guys! Hope everyone else doing ok. Looking forward to second NCT class tonight!

TopKittyKat · 06/02/2017 17:37

Hi everyone,

Peanut - sorry to hear your news. It feels such a violation when people steal from your home.

Keith - I've had to call in sick a few times when I've had bad nights. You've got to put yourself first. I had a bad night's sleep on Saturday night and was a complete cow to DH on Sunday due to being over-tired, hormonal and stressed that our DIY isn't finished progressing as fast as I'd like. I feel bad today about it. Poor DH.

Marmite - I've been getting the hip/butt pain for about a month. I've tried pillows between the knees. I've tried several twenty million types of pillows as luckily my mum friends have dug out theirs for me to try but nothing seems to work.

Can I also add a silly first timer question to marmites list?
• how do you know what size nappies to take?
• should you take different size baby clothes in case the newborn ones don't fit?

Confused
MygirlKeith · 06/02/2017 17:56

Thanks Kittykat I've said I won't be in this week at all. Need to rest!

For your question, I'm taking 2 newborn babygros and vests and a few 0-3. I don't anticipate them needing the newborn, last baby was almost 10lbs and this one is already measuring big so I'm betting on around 8lbs! Nappies, I have a pack of size 1 that I will take and I've got size 2 in the house that my neighbour gave me, they go from 6-13lbs so I think they'll probably do from the start as well.

MyGreenSofa · 06/02/2017 19:05

2x nighties & 1x pjs should be fine. They will have hospital gowns if you need and might want you to wear one depending on what monitoring you'll need.

I'll be bringing at least 5 vests & sleepsuits in addition to 1st outfit & coming home outfit. My DD brought up a lot of fluid in the 24 hours after birth & soaked through everything we had.

I don't know of any babies that haven't started in size 1 nappies. I think the vast majority of newborns fit them!

OP posts:
HLBug · 06/02/2017 20:52

Size 1 nappies here too. I'm also being ridiculously organised with baby clothes as DH is useless at that type of thing and I won't be able to do much after section.

I have two sizes of clothes to take in, >7.5lbs and >10lbs. DS was 8.2lbs but was 2 weeks late, so didn't touch the newborn stuff. As this baby will be early (39 weeks) I thought I should take both sizes just in case. So - and feel free to laugh at me for this - I am putting together complete outfits in sandwich bags for DH to use as necessary. I'll label the front of the bag what size / weight is inside so he doesn't have to struggle to put anything together. I'll probably make up 6/8 bags for the hospital bag (3/4 of each size), and another 6/8 bags to keep in the car / at home depending on how long we'll be kept in for. The midwives will probably be a bit Hmm but I think it's a great idea!!!

HL that list is so helpful!!

I'd been looking on Pinterest which seems to be totally belt and braces, I'd need about 10 bags to fit it all in!

GENIUS idea about food bags with outfits in too!

I haven't got any nappies etc yet - I'll leave that kind of thing until I've sorted some storage in the baby's bedroom because at the moment it is tidy but doesn't have any cupboards. I'm hoping to get a joiner in while I'm on Mat leave to build some cupboards into an alcove.

petiteange28 · 07/02/2017 09:16

Thanks for the list HLBug. Super helpful. Made me realize though that as much as we have all the key things like car seat, moses basket, pram we don't really have any clothes....might have to get some of those!!!

A tip we discovered at the weekend (although I'm sure you have all probably thought about this) is don't leave fitting the car seat to the last minute. We tried to fit ours at the weekend - it has an Isofix base. Turns out it is virtually impossible. We've had to call up the Nissan garage and are going to take it to them on Saturday morning to fit. It's not even an old Nissan (2012) it's just impossible to find the right slots!! We thought we'd just check that it works and then leave it in the boot.....not anymore....once it's in it's in!!

everdene · 07/02/2017 09:32

Petite I'm going to set the Isofix base up soon too, we have borrowed one and it looks straightforward but I know these things can be deceiving!

It's getting harder to get up in the morning for work - just five weeks to go and then I'm off though, can't wait!

MrsBac83 · 07/02/2017 11:47

I've heard loads of people suggest putting outfits into freezer/sandwich bags (and labelling bags according to size etc) I think it's genius! Will certainly be doing it myself!!

I plan on taking a bag for up to 10lb and a bag with 0-3 months. 2 x vests/body suits and sleepsuits in each plus a hat and a nappy. So first 'dressing' will be nice and easy. Then making up another bag in each size with maybe another 3 outfits to leave in the car as back up.

At Antenatal class the midwife suggested having a 'back up' bag in boot of car with extra outfits, nappies, mat pads, snacks etc so DH only has to go to car to get it rather than home/shops. Also limits what you actually take into the hospital.

They also said that they quite often teach Dad to dress the baby in first outfit which I thought was quite nice.

CarryOn2016 · 07/02/2017 15:10

thanks for sharing - all very useful info
I have to organise myself as start getting stuff!

What are your thoughts about best bottles? I plan to breast feed if I can but would be nice if DH can also give a bottle

purpleviolet1 · 07/02/2017 16:50

I've been recommended to buy the dr browns options bottles. My cousin said she invested in Tommy tippeee but had to replace them all with dr browns which are best for colic. Another relative from my dhs family also recommended the same! So I've bought the starter pack thing. Hoping to breastfeed but bought just in case.

TopKittyKat · 07/02/2017 19:28

Thanks for the tips ladies! As a first-timer I'm finding this thread invaluable.

HLBug · 07/02/2017 19:36

Dr Brown are meant to be good but a PITA to clean properly. I used Avent with DS and probably will again with this baby. It's just trial and error though.
