I'm super bloated too Mawita - it's lunchtime that gets me and I think sitting at a desk isn't helping as I don't get anywhere near as bloated at the weekend when I'm moving around more.

Happy 20 weeks Luci!!

I was working from a different office yesterday which is in the middle of town so decided to hit the charity shops as DH had broken the zips in 2x hoodies he used for work and I refuse to buy him new ones as being a painter and decorator you can imagine how quickly they're destroyed!!

Anyway in the last shop I decided to check out the ladies trousers, just in case, and found 2x pairs of practically brand new maternity trousers in my size for £3.49 each!!! Winning! Wish I checked out all the other shops now for maternity clothes!

Notyetthere · 03/02/2017 12:43

Luci DH bought me the dreamgenii but I don't think it has helped me in anyway either. I still wake up with backache. I normally sleep on my left anyway but for some reason I can't maintain it anymore. I have to turn and sleep on my right or else I get the shoulder pain too.

Lallypopstick · 03/02/2017 14:14

ASOS have nice maternity trousers, and they're quite often reduced too. I've got one pair of over the bump ones. And even though I never wear jeans, I'm tempted by maternity jeans. I think it's the waistband I always find so uncomfortable in jeans so a big elasticated piece of cotton might help!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 04/02/2017 09:54

Has anybody else started thinking about birth options? I feel like I keep putting off thinking about it but I'm almost half way there now and I better start doing my research! I have a history of significant mental health problems and sexual abuse that will impact my decisions significantly but I feel like I've compartmentalised birth for the time being so I don't need to worry about it! One for the midwives I know but just curious to see where you guys are with it?

Notyetthere · 04/02/2017 10:25

Thumbs short answer is nope. I haven't got that far. I think I will first gt past the 20wk scan and also the 24wk midwife appointment, then I will consider it. Do we need to think about it so soon?

OP posts:
bluebird1235 · 04/02/2017 10:43

My midwife brought it up at my 16 week appointment and also discussed at length with consultant but I think that is just because it's twins and it can get rather complicated.

I think it depends on you. I'm a compulsive planner and like to think about everything that might happen and plan how I'll deal with it. In reality I don't think you need to think about it at all at this stage if you don't want to. The midwives are great and will make sure you do everything right when the time comes Smile

Naivebutnice · 04/02/2017 11:03

I have started thinking about the birth Thumbs - I was all set with my first for a natural zen experience. Ended with emergency c-section. At least we were both OK...

This time I plan to try again for natural (they even have a term for it - VBAC!) but I will not persist for two days before going for the surgical route.

On the trousers question, I never did find good work trousers so just wore dresses throughout, but I did get two pairs of Topshop Leigh maternity jeans and they are still going strong second time around. They provided you cover the waistband, they look just like normal skinny jeans, they wash well and have not stretched.

On the cusp of week 19 now, definite bump and definite kicks, usually when sitting down or in bed.

DrewOB0 · 04/02/2017 11:20

I'm not allowed jeans at work :( all my clients where them!

Hazlulu · 04/02/2017 11:37

When I first found out I was pregnant I assumed I would go for the elective route due to past gynaecological issues but now I've had more time to think about it I'm leaning towards a natural birth.

I have choice of two hospitals - one is a tiny midwife-led unit in a more rural area, the other is a midwife-led unit attached to a consultant unit in a city. There is a huge difference between the number of births per year at each hospital and as such there is more opportunity to stay for 48-hours at the tiny rural unit. Also, I think there is a higher chance of a water birth at the rural unit because of the lower numbers (both hospitals have two birthing pools). I'm currently aiming for the rural unit but my family are concerned because they worry about the need to transfer to the city (which has awful traffic issues) should any problems arise during labour. I'm going to speak to my wife about it next week :)

Hopefully if baby plays ball we will be finding out whether it is a boy or girl this afternoon!

Spindelina · 04/02/2017 13:33

I'm pretty low risk - second timer having had a fairly straightforward vb last time. But I'm 5 mins by taxi from my local consultant led unit (in the hospital where I work), or half an hour by taxi from my nearest midwife led unit. Much as I would love an MLU, that's not going to happen.

(Last time round, the taxi was the most stressful bit of the whole thing - will they even take me? Will my waters break? Will I just sound like an idiot? As it was, I went in too early because of being worried about leaving it too late, so had a pretty miserable night - fortunately they had capacity to let me stay - before things really got going the next morning.)

I live in a terraced house with neighbours prone to complaint, so home birth isn't for me.

Notyetthere · 04/02/2017 15:17

I always thought that when I started to feel the kicks, all of my worry would go away. I haven't felt any movement today and I think it is contributing to my foul mood.

OP posts:
thumbsupforthesixbillion · 04/02/2017 16:33

Thanks all, you've reassured me that I'm not totally behind! Part of me wants to push for an elective C section but the other part of me feels like this might be another experience controlled by my past and that makes me incredibly angry and torn. I'll definitely bring it up with my midwife when I'm registered with the new service post move.

aurevoirsailor · 04/02/2017 16:43

Hello! New to mumsnet, also new to this type of forum so I'm sorry if I post in the wrong place(s) etc! Please can I join? I'm 14+5 wks with my first little un, due 31st July 2017. Lots of love to you ladies, very much enjoyed looking at all your scan photos, got to see my baba again last Wednesday and OH cried his contact lenses out watching me get mercilessly kicked to death on the inside lol. How is everyone finding the second trimester? xx

Kitsandkids · 04/02/2017 16:55

Everyone I know who had a birth plan says nothing went to plan anyway so I don't think I'll bother. I'll aim for normal, vaginal birth and just hope for the best but I'll be happy as long as the baby and I both get through it safely.

Spindelina · 04/02/2017 18:41

The things that were really worth having on my birth plan were the bits about who I am and how to talk to me:

I'm a health professional. Use technical language - if I don't understand, I'll ask.
Tell me what's going on. If I get overwhelmed, I'll tell you.
I would be very happy to have students involved with my care.

I think all the midwives, students and MCAs who were involved in my care could get a handle on how to approach me very quickly by skin reading.

As it turned out, DD was delivered by a student. It was also noticeable that the medic who came to stitch me up afterwards hadn't read my birth plan as she discussed my water works. No, that'll be my urethra that you are sewing up, thanks.

LuciBee231015 · 05/02/2017 09:37

Not I'm the same! If I haven't felt a kick for a day I get worried! Hopefully they start to get a bit more regular, and they normally happen when I'm not waiting for them.

I don't have a birth plan. I want to go into the hospital, have a normal vaginal birth if I can, and I'm not ruling any pain relief out. If I can do without I will, if I really feel that I need it I will ask for it. That's it really. I think it's difficult to plan such a thing as you never know how you and your body, and the baby, are going to react. I did read the labour part of my pregnancy book the other night and it does have me a little scared to be honest...

DaisyQueen · 05/02/2017 10:44

Hi ladies. I suffered a little bleed yesterday with a huge amount of mucus discharge. I was checked out at the hospital and everything is fine, cervix still right back and closed and even got to listen to the heartbeat. I've had a urine test which was clear and swabs taken to check for any signs of infection, hopefully nothing is found.

CatRash · 05/02/2017 11:09

Sorry to hear that Daisy - I know exactly how it feels! Did they scan you too or just check you over. Hopefully it's stopped now and doesn't start up again. Take it easy.

LuciBee231015 · 05/02/2017 11:11

Hope your ok daisy. Scary stuff being pregnant isn't it. Take it easy for the next few days girl.

Notyetthere · 05/02/2017 11:45

Daisy glad all turned out to be ok. Must have been scary at the time.

Luci I finally did get some flutters yesterday evening and definite movement this morning. In fact I am eel the movements even now as I write. I guess we will have some days when baby just fancies an extended napGrin.

I really have not thought as far as a the birth. I haven't even read the chapter on giving birth yet. TBH I can't look that far forward. I'm taking it in stages and it is helping my anxiety. I think the mc made more cynical. I sometimes have moments of excitement and look forward to the future. Those are normally the times when I buy something for baby. But then I end up with a feeling dread of things went wrong and I had all these things to remind me. I haven't bought too much stuff and I can lock it away or put it all in the loft. Anyway, apart from my 'imagined' gloom, all is well here, lots of kicks for reassurance.

19+1 today and 20wk scan for Friday morning. Not long now.

Naivebutnice · 05/02/2017 11:51

Spindelina - your post made me laugh! Water works?? Really? I'm not even remotely medical but even id be offended by such dumbing down..

Spindelina · 05/02/2017 13:44

Yep, I know. But stirrups aren't conducive to thumping someone Wink. I have a very low tolerance for being patronised. The other one that drove me batshit was being referred to in the third person as 'mum': "And how is mum this morning?" "Well as far as I know you aren't my sibling, but I can give her a ring and ask if you want? ". Didn't actually say that, but was sorely tempted.

Kitsandkids · 05/02/2017 17:21

Sorry for TMI but my nipples have been so itchy the last couple of days! They also seem a bit 'crusty' too, which I'm not sure if it's dry skin or dried discharge. I'm tempted to pick it all off but I think that might make it worse!

Notyetthere · 05/02/2017 17:39

My nipples are also itchy. I love giving them a rub with a towel just after removing my bra before a shower. It gives some relief. I am also moisturising them more than before and helps with the dry skin. I do try to pick off the dry bits but like you its is quite difficult to tell what is nipple tissue or dry skinBlush

OP posts:
CatRash · 05/02/2017 17:48

Another with itchy nips! No crustiness but definitely itchy!
