Arrrrr - what a cute little picture!!

firsttimer12345 · 29/12/2016 15:08

Fantastic melons!

Hoping for a scan tomorrow after my booking in as in quite a lot of pain and gp has no answers!

Largemelons · 29/12/2016 15:12

Ooh good luck mrsG! Cost us £99 but worth every penny, after bleeding at 5 weeks and then doing a test which I thought was fainter and deciding I was mc again it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. But I wanted to wait until I knew I'd definitely see something and then if it wasn't there there'd be no question about viability.
It's been a tough few weeks but feeling pretty good now!
Also delighted baby number 6 is a singleton!

TeamLentil · 29/12/2016 15:13

Aww melons that's a lovely picture Star

MrsG280516 · 29/12/2016 15:15

Mine is £99 too, definitely worth it. I'll be 8w so hoping it's just as clear as yours!

Writerwannabe83 · 29/12/2016 15:19

Mines a bargain at £40 then Grin

Dixiechick1991 · 29/12/2016 15:28

Hello ladies
That's a gorgeous scan picture. How do you find early scan places?

Denna81 · 29/12/2016 15:29

Ah congrats melons what a great picture! That's super exciting and must be such a relief.

I've been a bit of a wreck today, sliced my finger open cutting an avocado and had a bit of a panic from the blood then a panic because of the panic and would the bean be okay- silly in retrospect but horrible at the time. Now have crushing guilt that all the anxiety is bad for the bean. :/

I've been contemplating an early scan but I have a really high BMI and worry that this would make it tricky to scan me- is this a thing or am i being daft? When i had my mmc they had to do an internal ultarsound but not sure if this was down to lack of anything much to see in first place.

Where have people been getting their scans? I've looked at the local BMI hospital but there are no prices for there.

Writerwannabe83 · 29/12/2016 15:43

I just googled "early pregnancy scans near (my postcode)" and the company came up straight away.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 29/12/2016 15:53

Congrats melons lovely pic!

Kirsty glad you get to eat your craving!!

Decided to start clearing out our spare room to move our DS1 into but what a mission and now my tummy feels very tight! Doh! Confused

MrsG280516 · 29/12/2016 15:56

Yes just google private ultrasound scan then your area.

Denna81 regarding high BMI, I imagine it could present some problems when it's hard to find a baby so small in the first place. If you find a clinic near you, you could always call and ask what their procedure is.

Sparklyuggs · 29/12/2016 17:51

If anyone is near London I would highly recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre for an early scan. It cost £100 which is standard for central London and I was scanned by a doctor which was nice as I could ask loads of questions. I never saw any cheaper than that in London, and FMC are trustworthy.

choccyTeapot · 29/12/2016 18:40

Evening!

Finally discovered how things work at my surgery today after GP had told me to make appt with MW but not offered any further info on the process.

Had a short touch-base with her this am and turns out my booking appt is a home visit, which is pretty darn handy. So 12/1 for me.

Also got my form for exemption, my booklet and she's sent the referral for my scan. All seems even more real now! 😀

WantingBaby1 · 29/12/2016 18:55

I also highly recommend FMC. Really reassuring and professional and all the £ goes back into research.

denna re bmi, I imagine it depends how much tummy fat you have rather than bmi strictly. More layers make it more difficult to get a clear pic so they may do an internal scan. Most of the early scans are internal anyway so I wouldn't worry. I had an internal at 7+1 at Fmc as I had to pee just before and so an external was difficult to see anything but the sac.
Congrats on the scan melons
Sounds like a positive apt teapot

ZigAZigAhh · 29/12/2016 19:00

Another vote for FMC - we found them excellent and well worth the money. Very happy memories of having the scans done and then poring over the photos in a state of elated disbelief while having croissants and hot chocolate at La Fromagerie in Marylebone Smile

Bryonie2017 · 29/12/2016 20:57

Another vote for FMC I went there last week, very good experience and worth every penny!

Fattycowagain · 29/12/2016 21:18

Most places start with an external scan and if it is unclear, they'll do an internal.

Hi ladies, been lurking for a while but keen to now join in the discussion! EDD is 2nd August and I have a little girl who will be 3 next month. Apart from a voracious appetite which kicked in a couple of weeks ago, I've very few symptoms. I had an early scan last week and my booking in appointment yesterday which made it seem a bit more real but with an energetic toddler around combined with lots to do in work, I almost forget I'm pregnant! I'm already so much more blasé than I was last time Hmm! I look forward to continuing the journey with you ladies Smile.

Denna81 · 29/12/2016 21:29

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I'm in Lancashire so i've emailed a local private company to ask if my weight will pose a problem for them and see what they say. I'm a size 16 but do carry a lot of my weight round my middle and in my boobs so will just have to wait and see what they say. :)

Bryonie2017 · 29/12/2016 21:33

Deanna if it's any consolation you sound like the same size as me and I had an external scan at 8 weeks with no trouble. I was prepared for the internal but it wasn't needed - she found little bean in seconds!

Largemelons · 29/12/2016 22:01

Mine was an external scan and they found it in seconds too. I'm sure you'll be fine.

swimchick1980 · 29/12/2016 22:02

Congratulations melons, a great picture too!

So tempted to get an early scan now. We were quoted £95 by our IVF clinic, so seems about right.

Sparklyuggs · 30/12/2016 07:15

I had my midwife appt yesterday, just lots and lots of questions about my health and medical history as well as going over NHS guidelines on foods, drinking, smoking. I see them again at 16 weeks.

Got given the Emma's Diary booklet, has anyone else been given it? Not sure if it's grumpy pregnancy hormones but I find it a bit patronising!

ZigAZigAhh · 30/12/2016 08:48

Sparkly - I got one of those with DC1 and remember raising my eyebrows a few times while reading it! Possibly grumpy hormones on my part too Grin

I love hearing about everyone's scans - still deciding whether to get an early one or just wait for the 12 week NHS one. Will see if my patience runs out!

Slightly gross question - I know constipation is fairly normal at this point but is anyone having the...errr...opposite problem? I don't think it's anything I've eaten but my tummy is definitely not happy! Can't remember having this particular experience with DC1. Slightly annoyed as I told myself I was going to go to the gym today just to do some gentle exercise (haven't been in over 2 weeks and am feeling it) but now this has come along and I don't want to aggravate it...

The Bounty website is saying it might be caused by healthier eating and increased exercise
