Hi all - looks like I'm first here! I'm pregnant with #1, due 2 September. Got my BFP a couple of days ago and already it feels like a rollercoaster ride - I'm utterly thrilled, anxious about the possibility of a loss and terrified at the thought of the birth! But hey, bring it on! Smile

We broke the news to both sets of parents over Christmas but will wait til after the first scan before telling anyone else. Re avoiding suspicion, my mum suggested that “drying out after all the drinking at Christmas” could be a good excuse for avoiding alcohol. I'll be using that one when I go out tonight, but think it'll be more effective/believable after New Year.

Hi all, congratulations to you all! Please can I join as well? This will be my first and I think I'm due on the 3 Sept. so excited and struggling not to tell everyone.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 28/12/2016 18:57

Hi all
Can I join too?
Had a SmallFaintPositive before Christmas but only came off the pill first week of Dec so I'm pretty surprised and at the same time waiting for spotting anyday now too. Sad
Currently suffering with a bout of diarrhoea whilst at my in laws too - great.

This would be my no2, DD has just turned two.
First birth was lovely and at home so I'd love to repeat that.

I am currently obsessing about possibly having twins - no history in my family but my MIL is a twin and I've just got it in my head that my tiredness and now illness is a sign of a multiple pregnancy.
I think it'd be a fucking nightmare tbh, so hope once things have settled and I can see GP they'll rule it out.
One is hard enough, a subsequent child is always going to be tough but two newborns and a toddler would be awful!

Hope everyone feeling better soon.

Top tip for hiding not drinking - Becks Blue is non alcoholic beer but tastes pretty similar, if you poured it into a glass I'm sure you'd get away with it, also lime and soda could be passed off as having vodka etc
And there are genuinely lots of nice mocktails out there. I think I saw a non alcohol wine available too?
There's a rose schloer that looks like wine too.

Family party done and dusted tonight! Thankfully I could say I was driving, 4 people asked when the next baby was coming along!!

HellsBellsK · 28/12/2016 22:41

Welcome everyone new.

We have also told both sides of the family. So happy I can just say I am driving. We wont tell anyone else now till 12 weeks.
Booked my consultant today - they asked did I want an early scan so thats booked for the 14th January.
Hopefully everything will be okay - I am kind of getting worried don't want to get to excited. But also want to be positive!
Don't have a lot of symptoms either. But I know the doctor said to me before that they usually show up around 6/7 weeks.

How is everyone feeling?

Stalingrad · 29/12/2016 08:50

Can I join?

I'm due 1/9 with my fourth. Funnily I was due 1/9 with my first too but she ended up being born mid August. It makes a huge difference as she's the youngest in her year and I'd love this one to hang on to September. My second two were overdue so there is hope!

We weren't planning a fourth and so this is a bit of a shock. I work three long days a week and am already very busy with the other three so it's going to be a challenge. Luckily DH is very hands on and our eldest will be turning 11 as the baby arrives so she will be lots of help.

Jaffacakes1234 · 29/12/2016 12:31

stalingrad this is my 4th too and my edd is my 2nd Childs birthday :-) 7th sept, this one will be a planned section at 39 weeks though but if desperately late August birthday I will delay school starting for a year :-) much easier to do these days

elpinguino · 29/12/2016 19:20

Hi everyone, and welcome new ladies too! I went back to work today, can't believe how tired I was all day! And I slept really well last night as well. Thankfully no sickness yet, sort of dreading that development but also watching every potential symptom as reassurance that the baby is still there. I'm so nervous after MC last month still. I've also managed to book in for an early scan (because of prev MC) which they said would be around 7 weeks but couldn't get appointment until 25th Jan so will be more like 8-9 weeks. Feels like forever, but still I have a date to count down to so that's helping. Other new development is that I'm really craving cheese. I know it's prob way too early for cravings and it might just be me using the baby as an excuse to eat, but I can't get enough of it at the moment!

dontbuy I keep thinking about possibility of twins too! I know it'd be an awful lot of work but I just keep imagining it. At least not tooooo long to find out and hopefully be reassured that I only have to learn how to look after one small person!

Re alcohol avoidance - my mum (who doesn't drink) and I have been drinking rose lemonade which looks fairly like pink champagne a lot over Christmas! Tastes good too Smile.

Hope you're all getting on ok!

Stalingrad · 29/12/2016 20:28

Jaffa - that's exciting that you are a 4th timer too. Can I ask whether your fourth was planned? We had stopped at 3 and our 3 are already 10, 8 and 3 so I am surprised to be facing the baby days again. Nobody I know has four. Literally nobody! I'm excited though. I love having three and as an only child myself I adore the chaos of a big family.

DontBuy and Elpin - u too keep obsessing re twins. Ok not sure why except that it's just the sort of thing that would shown to me: have a surprise conception of number four and it turns out to be numbers four and five!

I've already put on 3lbs! I eat carbs to stave off sickness when I'm pregnant. I always gain loads of weight. In my first pregnancy I gained 4 stone! I started off a size 10 and after birth I was a size 16. I have always got back to me pre-preg weight quite quickly through breastfeeding so I try not to fret but this time I'm going to go easy on the doughnuts despite their medicinal properties for curing morning sickness :-)

Jaffacakes1234 · 30/12/2016 08:22

starlingrad yes totally planned I'm just mad! Always wanted 4, my older dc are 5,4 and 21 months. Not planning any more though!

Jaffacakes1234 · 30/12/2016 08:41

Anyone made a booking appointment yet? Might try and book mine today

HellsBellsK · 30/12/2016 08:48

Jaffacakes I rang the hospital the other day - all booked in just waiting for the letter in the post for the 12 week appointment.
They asked did I want an early scan so thats booked for 2 weeks time.

Did another pregnancy test today just to make sure and it said 3+ so I am a bit more relaxed again.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 30/12/2016 08:52

I am going to do another test 1st Jan as my first was very faint, then maybe call mid Jan? I feel I'm very early days, 4 weeks, maybe 5?

Stalingrad · 30/12/2016 08:56

Wow Jaffa, those are small age gaps, hats off to you. Do you have boys or girls?

I haven't booked my first appointment. I will pay for a private scan and the Harmony test at 12 weeks. My DC2 and 3 were given very scary odds for Down Syndrome after our NHS scans and in both cases I then paid for private scans and testing which showed all was fine. This time I will refuse the NHS scan and all nuchal testing and go straight for Harmony.

The DH's birthday today so I am going to tell him. Unkept it secret for a few days so it can be a birthday surprise.

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 30/12/2016 09:51

Wow Stalingrad well done for keeping the secret. I wanted to save it till Christmas day, but caved that night. I actually wanted to wait till Christmas day to test, as a present to myself, but ended up testing 3 days before and 2 days before my period was due. No resolve here Blush

Felt my 1st nausea today i think, reassuring little sign or perhaps coincidental!

I will be in China until about 34/35 weeks, same as with first one, so slightly stressful booking in late... Oh well, at least i have good medical insurance here this time and can go to high end hospitals for my appointments. With the first it was a bit of a different experience Smile

ADuckNamedSplash · 30/12/2016 10:07

Hi to everyone new - congratulations!

Re booking in - I phoned the clinic this morning and they said I need to go down there to pick up a maternity pack and fill out a form, so I'll do that later today. They suggested I'd then get a midwife appointment without seeing a doctor. No problem with that, except I've got a couple of chronic medical conditions that may or may not impact my pregnancy, so don't know if I actually should be seeing a doctor. I guess I can take the advice of the midwife on that though.

My symptoms have settled down a bit now, except that my breasts are still sore and larger than normal. I took some advice I read on another thread and bought a couple of maternity bras - hopefully they'll help!

Shwighty1 · 30/12/2016 10:46

My sense of smell has gone crazy today and the smell of ds1 yoghurt made me feel nauseous! I didn't get any morning sickness with him so I hopened I don't with this 1!!!

Shwighty1 · 30/12/2016 11:05

Aduck if you're after cheapy alternatives the Poundshop do 'softbras' they were a lifesaver in my last pregnancy, read about them on here. They're effectively a crop top with support built in.

Jaffacakes1234 · 30/12/2016 11:46

Ooooh starlingrad have you told him yet? What did he say?!
I have a girl and 2 boys in that order, my daughter is 5 and desperate for a sister, I personally don't mind though!

Jaffacakes1234 · 30/12/2016 11:46

Somehow sent that too soon, do you have girls or boys?

littlepooch · 30/12/2016 13:50

I have made an appointment to see the gp on 11 January so I can get booked in. Feel very nervous about doing it but thought I should get booked in. I'll probably have a private early scan mid to late January as if all appears to be going ok I'll need some reassurance by then. I'm finding early oregnancy after miscarriage very stressful indeed.

Is anyone else feeling absolutely shattered! It's probably just from running around after DD all day who is 13 months and a little live wire and doesn't sit still but I could honestly get into bed and have a nap!

Jaffacakes1234 · 30/12/2016 14:39

littlepooch also finding pregnancy after mc stressful and considering a private scan,
Got my booking appointment for 30th January but even that seems ages away!

ADuckNamedSplash · 30/12/2016 15:43

Ooh, thanks - I'll look into that!

So I told DH. I wrapped up the stick and gave it to him. He unwrapped it, looked confused, then said "you want to try for another baby?" And I said "it's a bit late for that." And he said "But this means you are ovulating" and I said "Not exactly". Then I realised it would need very basic spelling out. Since then he's mainly been saying "Wow" and "On My Gosh" and "How" an awful lot!

Jaffa - I have two girls and a boy. The girls are 10 and just 8 and the boy is 3.5. I don't mind what this is although my girls slept a LOT better than my son. I just want a healthy sleeper!
