Mooseville · 05/12/2016 18:41

Hello!!

This is a new wave of grads for those from #TTC1 - Those on the first grade thread are dealing with poonamis and crying babies, while we are still waving our FRER's and wondering if that line is really a figment of our imagination!

Feel free to join in, if you too are embarking on this crazy journey to parenthood!!

Starmist sorry to hear about your job, fx you get the new one.

Starky hello again! Glad to hear it's all going well, can't believe how old L is already!

Starfish only thing that helped a little with my nausea was sour sweets. Only work while I was actually sucking them though, nothing lasting afterwards!

Marmite can't believe you can't get a seat on the tram!! Shock

Okay, vote time... Uppababy Cruz or Vista for pushchair? Vista looks more sturdy for dirt tracks but is heavier than the Cruz, this is my only choice and I can't make up my mind!!

marmitecheesetoast · 08/03/2017 14:31

We have the VIsta fishy obviously haven't used it yet but have heard and read so many good things about it. I'm not the strongest and I was confident I was able to fold it up and down/lift in and out boot etc on my own, although it was heavy, and that was while pregnant so hoping I'll find it even easier after. Did you try lifting it up etc yourself? I guess it depends whether you think you'll be mainly on pavements or whether you'll be doing more all terrain walking? I figured most of the time I'd be likely to be using it on my own without DH I'd be walking rather than going places in the car which is what helped me make the decision. I also love the massive shopping basket underneath! Although the Cruz might have the same? I can't remember

I've just had my placenta re-scan - it's no longer low lying and blocking the cervix!! So I can go ahead with previously planned vaginal birth rather than c section! Eeek I can't get my head round it now as had so convinced myself I'd need to have the planned section. Really pleased, but really need to get back on the breathing practice, hypnobirthing etc as have done nothing for the last 2 weeks between scans, oops!

Seahawk80 · 08/03/2017 19:25

Congrats marmite that's great news! I can totally believe you can't get a seat - people are so engrossed in their phones - it annoys me though when people are sat in priority seats, they should look around and check every stop, I was always very aware of that before.

FXSkip · 09/03/2017 06:33

Great news marmite but seriously slow down with the whole time thing - I can't believe how soon you are due 😩 so exciting for you though, soon you get to meet your wee one and all thoughts of packed trains and inconsiderate passengers will be long gone!

kavanaughkj · 09/03/2017 21:52

Hello ladies! and I know I'm late to the party but hello 'Starky! It was really nice to see your name pop up in here and I'd been wondering how all the earlier grads were doing since you all headed over to FB. I have to confess before that happened I'd been stalking the first grad thread looking for what it was like for all of you with new babies - and getting ideas for recommendations :) The Poddle pod looks fab and I've added Ewan the Dream Sheep to my wishlist already!

Just got told there's space for me in the pregnancy yoga group around the corner, so I'll be following your example Seahawk :) I'd like to swim too but I'll have to look at maternity swimwear before I go - if nothing else my boobs will definitely not fit in my normal cossie! Thanks for the tip on Mamalicious marmite!

Wow Moose, you've got a ton ready now! We have the buggy and the car seat but that's it ... I don't want to buy anything more until I get past the halfway mark.

Starfish, I feel for you on the tiredness and nausea - I know it does feel sometimes like it'll never end. I kept a box of Ritz crackers by my bed so if I woke up in the middle of the night I could snack on them, as I found I only ever really felt normal when I was eating! An empty tummy just made me ill. Like the others, carbs were definitely my friend - I ate a lot of plain pasta and mashed potato too!

As for the tiredness - if there's anywhere you can sneak off to even for a 20 min nap in the day, do it. I had to a couple of times in the office when I was so tired I was convinced I'd faceplant the keyboard; we have a first aid room with a bed and a lockable door in my office so I used to go in there with my phone for an alarm and drop off for a 20 min snooze. It really helped.

Marmite, so pleased you'll be able to have a vaginal birth! That's fantastic :)

Not much new to report here. DH having interviews (hoping to hear positive news from one tomorrow) and I'm very much hoping to be able to take some holiday the week after next once the busiest period of the year for me is over. :)

Seahawk80 · 10/03/2017 06:09

I'm so glad everyone on here is a bit more chilled about buying everything a bit later. Feels like the July thread have all bought everything and done their nurseries, I was starting to panic! Mind you our nursery just needs the skirting boards painting and I'm being given a lot of stuff so it's not like I have loads to do.

Flying home today, so sad holiday is over. We tried to go up the burj Kalifa yesterday in Dubai but it was fully booked so we spent the money in pottery barn kids instead Grin

Can't believe I'm 24 weeks tomorrow, it's really flying by!

Good luck to your DH kav

Starmist · 10/03/2017 20:37

FXSkip I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL Flowers

Great to hear from you Starky glad all is well.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Moose that sounds like a great article, don't blame you following the advice on chocolate! Wink

Great news about placenta Marmite!

Kav FX for DH's interviews.

Had my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday & we heard baby's heart beat for the first time, it was so amazing!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned.

Musicgrrl · 11/03/2017 09:21

Hi guys - feels like a long time since I have caught up properly!

Seahawk sounds like you had a lovely holiday - can't believe you're 24 weeks now, how exciting! Are you properly showing these days? My DH and I are very relaxed about buying stuff and nursery decorating - mostly because we still have another room to finish decorating first which is currently a bomb site!

kav glad you have a more relaxed period at work coming up - it sounds like you have been really busy for months! FX for good news from your DH's interviews too.

Starmist isn't it lovely hearing the heartbeat! Especially around the 16 week mark when you still aren't feeling hugely pregnant (certainly how I felt anyway). I'm coming up to 18 weeks now and still don't feel hugely different but my belly is gradually getting a bit rounder I think. Or maybe it's my daily chocolate...

marmite that's such great news about your placenta moving! How have you got on with hypnobirthing? Would you recommend it? I am completely in shock that no-one would give up their seat for you on the tram?!

fishy I can't comment on either of the Uppababy prams - I had a quick look at the specs and neither of them would fit through our narrow front door!! The icandy peach does so that's a contender for us I think.

starfish sorry to hear you are suffering with nausea. Hope some of the tips from these lovely ladies help!

mrs spa break sounds lovely and very relaxing. I plan to get myself swimming at some point. Although I have said that about yoga as well and I still haven't got my arse in gear!

Hope you all have lovely weekend plans. Not much to report with me - off to Copenhagen for a few days next week and then will be on the count down to the 20 week scan! Trying not to wish away time but am definitely at the stage where some more reassurance would be nice! Sorry to anyone I have missed in this catch up - not intentional!

WantingBaby1 · 11/03/2017 16:15

Hey ladies. Just popping in to recommend pregnancy massage. If any of you are from SW London let me know and I can recommend an amazing place. I wasn't sure what to expect but they had my on my side the whole time, supported by lots of soft towel-covered pillows, and it was just lovely. Moving house this weekend so really needed the de-stress! I'll definitely go again. mrs did you get a massage with your spa day?

star the nausea was bad for me too but has eased off now (18.5 wks). I found salty crisps helped.

Hope you're all having nice weekends Smile

MrsG280516 · 11/03/2017 16:36

wanting yes I had a 90 minute full body treatment and it was amazing. She did my back whilst I was on my side (turned over for each side) then she did the rest whilst I was on my back. Starting with a lovely moisturising mask on my tummy which made it feel so smooth! I've been making an extra effort with my skin care and putting cocoa butter on my bump since then!

Seahawk80 · 12/03/2017 16:20

I feel like I'm huge now music - the bump really popped out on holiday (maybe it's not the baby and just all the food)! Wearing over the bump jeans for the first time today - really comfy.

I love pregnancy massage, had a couple on holiday and have also used urban massage a few times around Christmas after the stressful 12 week scan. They are really good, they come to your house and bring their own massage table.

Mooseville · 13/03/2017 15:42

Hello everyone!
Sorry for the long absence! Got no internet in the new house yet so not on here as much!

All doing well here, 28 weeks! Eek! Getting bigger by the day - not helped by my love of Easter eggs! Grin
Went for the glucose test today - yuck - like drinking thick flat sprite! Fingers crossed the results are ok!
Starting work on the nursery tonight, lots of decisions to make about the furniture eeek! It's been full of boxes so once they're cleared, I can get in and measure up!
Think I'm going for a cloud theme but have also seen some bird vinyl stickers I love, so am going to see if I can sneak them in anywhere!
Good news about your placenta marmite

Seahawk80 · 13/03/2017 18:26

moose I'm dreading being sent for that test, put myself on a strict low sugar diet before midwife appt on thurs as sure I've been eating too much!

Mooseville · 14/03/2017 09:55

I was only sent as they send everyone whose BMI is over 30 plus my Dad is diabetic. Unless it runs in the family or you're overweight, I don't think they generally send you unless you show signs of having it!

OP posts:
kavanaughkj · 14/03/2017 10:11

I think my BMI may be nearing 30 as this pregnancy progresses (28.6 at the moment) - I've never been anything but normal my whole life and to find I'd popped into 'overweight' was disconcerting! Just hoping I'll be able to lose it easily after the new arrival shows.

Loving the sound of a pregnancy massage. I'm off for a week next week (halle-frickin-lujah) and could really do with some de-stress time after the amount of work I've been put through the last few months, so very tempted to go for one. :)

No luck on DH's job yet but he's just been offered a shot at a job that would be 5 mins walk from mine, which would be rather nice - I like the idea of being able to travel to work together and meet up for lunch now and then. :) Coming up for 2 months since he finished his last job and money is going to be tight so really hoping his luck changes soon!

Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 13:29

My BMI is over 30 even though I'm a size 12! I'm quite short and am v heavy - there must be rocks inside me!

Mooseville · 14/03/2017 14:16

That's crazy seahawk How is that possible? You must be made of lead! Grin

They told me at my booking in appt I'd need one, so if you've got to now without being sent I would think you're pretty safe - unless you start getting any symptoms.

My diet has been terrible the last few weeks. I ate a whole box of Viennese whirls in a day yesterday!!! I mean, even Mr Kipling would disapprove of that! Grin

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 14/03/2017 17:17

Ha ha moose I'm currently in the queue at costa for a mocha! People would often try to pick me up when I was in my 20s because I look really small - then they'd get a shock when I weighed so much! I don't weigh that much less than DH who is 5'9 (I'm 5'1) hope the baby isn't so heavy - I won't be able to carry it Confused

Seahawk80 · 15/03/2017 19:07

How is everyone? I've just booked a baby first aid course with Red Cross. Not the most exciting baby purchase but I'm feeling very organised and sensible!

MrsG280516 · 15/03/2017 20:27

Hey ladies! Bumping along here at almost 20 weeks, getting bigger by the day! It's quite amazing how large bump is already but I am struggling to find a nice dress for a christening we're attending in 3 weeks Sad

We've got our 20 week scan on Friday morning. So excited to see our little girl again, hopefully they'll confirm that she really is a she!

Musicgrrl · 15/03/2017 21:58

seahawk first aid course is a great idea. Think I'll see what's available in our area for me and DH.

mrs ooh that's not long to wait for your 20 week scan - exciting! Mine is two weeks today. I am excited and nervous equally!

Over the last few days (since 18 weeks) I have started to feel baby move! Really wasn't expecting to feel it this early so it was a lovely surprise and it is definitely helping me get through to the 20 week scan.

We are off for a long weekend break on Saturday which I am really looking forward to although my current wardrobe is becoming difficult. Having said that I still haven't told anyone at work I'm pregnant apart from my manager and no-one seems to have noticed yet (at least they haven't said anything to me anyway!)

I assume anxiety about the 20 week scan is normal?! seahawk I remember you had it.

Seahawk80 · 15/03/2017 22:32

@Musicgrrl I just put our postcode in on the Red Cross website, there were loads of options.

I think it's normal to worry about the 20
Week scan but it's unusual to find a problem. Are you finding out the sex? I think not finding out made me worry more as I saw it purely as a medical procedure. That said I'm glad I didn't break and find out! Exciting that you are feeling movement!

Mooseville · 16/03/2017 06:29

Blimey, everyone seems very pregnant all of a sudden!!!! Time really is flying along, it's crazy!!! I keep panicking at how quick my maternity leave is going to go - I've not even started it yet! Grin
I'm excited to get decorating the nursery this weekend! Ordered the furniture from Mamas and Papas sale today! When I'd finished ordering these codes popped up - I don't know if they're tailored to my account or for anyone but worth a try if anyone is buying anything? There's good furniture offers on at the moment!

No kidding Moose, this is scary! I have my '20 week' scan on Monday week, which will technically be 21 weeks and a day; hope yours goes well MrsG!

Music, how lovely that you're feeling your baby move already! I'm getting so impatient about it - haven't felt a thing yet and the last positive confirmation I had that baby is still alive was the heartbeat at the midwife appointment over a week ago. I don't think anything is wrong - still having to pee tons, still have achy boobs, still have that weird smell in my nose periodically - but I'd give a lot to feel baby move and tell me he or she is OK.

marmitecheesetoast · 16/03/2017 12:14

Hi guys, haven't been on for a while as seem to be very busy and also very tired!!

36 weeks tomorrow ShockShockShock and really feeling very pregnant now! Mainly struggling with ridiculously swollen hands, fingers and feet (and carpal tunnel in my right hand), calf cramps, sore pelvis and hips, sore ribs and an inability to get comfortable either sitting at my desk or lying in bed at night! I really can't complain too much though as haven't had it too bad at all really compared to most people! I really think staying active as much as I can has helped me incase that's helpful for those coming behind me! I'm still walking lots (albeit I've slowed down quite a bit!), and doing swimming, pregnancy yoga and pregnancy pilates every week.

I had a day off yesterday (which was lovely with it being such a gorgeous day!) and met up with some of the girls from my NCT class - including two of the very new, very tiny, very adorable babies!! Grin (still doesn't feel real though!) was so weird looking at the babies and thinking that was your bump last week?!!

I need to have a proper catch up but wanted to say good luck to those with 20 week scans coming up!

Seahawk we did the Red cross first aid course for babies (actually came across the details on the NCT page) a couple of week ago and found it really useful and reassuring. Definitely a good thing to do!

Music Yes I would recommend hypnobirthing, obviously I can't say yet how it will work for me in labour but it has helped me feel fairly calm, positive and actually quite excited about the prospect of giving birth (although of course still apprehensive too!) A few years ago I'd have said give me all the drugs and wondered why people didn't have epidurals but not I feel confident and hopeful about (hopefully!) having a calm, empowering, natural birth with hopefully just using breathing/hypnobirthing skills/gas&air if I need it. Obviously everyone is different but it's made a lot of sense to me reading all about how women's bodies are designed to give birth naturally, how we are essentially mammals etc and that it's only in more recent times that labour and birth have become so medicalised and couched in such negative painful terms on TV etc which isn't helpful. Essentially fear of birth is thought to increase the pain, so the less scared you can feel about it all, theoretically the more manageable it will be. At least that's what I'm hoping! Hmm. Sorry that turned into a really long winded response! I haven't done a course or anything I've just used the Maggie Howell Natal Hypnotherapy book and Maggie Howell Birth Preparation CD.

Any news on the job 5 mins from home for your DH Kav? FX!

Exciting about nursery furniture Moose! We're decorating our nursery this weekend (really is about time!) we have a safari animal theme Grin
