Mooseville · 05/12/2016 18:41

Hello!!

This is a new wave of grads for those from #TTC1 - Those on the first grade thread are dealing with poonamis and crying babies, while we are still waving our FRER's and wondering if that line is really a figment of our imagination!

Feel free to join in, if you too are embarking on this crazy journey to parenthood!!

Aww mouse sounds like that'll be an nice person to tell when you're ready to share the news! Your job options sound great! I met with my manager today who's on maternity leave so I had a few cuddles with her 3 month old. We'd planned to be on mat leave together but I mc'd so seeing her is often bittersweet. Today was lovely though and I got to tell her my news so she's excited which is nice!

marmite get those tootsies up, cup of something warm and kick-counting on! Hopefully nothing to worry about at all, but seriously woman get your clumsiness sorted out 😂 In all seriousness though this scares me a little as I am the clumsiest person ever - I'm always falling down our stairs!! 😐

One more day then just 2 days to my scan!! 😬

MouseLove · 11/01/2017 18:03

Marmite Oh no!! Hope you're ok now? I sympathise as I'm also a clumsy so and so and have bad hips too. Rest up!!

ns1348 · 11/01/2017 18:38

Marmite sorry to hear about your fall - hope your hip feels better soon and that the kick counting and resting up is going well. The concept of kick counting still feels very very odd to me right now, at 5 + 1.

Having said that I saw my GP yesterday and midwife today (though I'll be swapping to my friend who's a midwife henceforth, she just couldn't book me in as she's not linked to my surgery), which has made it all feel a bit more real. Blood rather went everywhere with the midwife today, so that's one hot water bottle cover to wash - my veins are a bit of a nightmare! Also been shattered today, and struggling to find time and energy to do all I need to.

As I'll be consultant led I've realised that I'm fairly sure I'm going to have to fight for the kind of delivery I want (assuming all goes reasonably well): midwife led (midwife led unit just through door from consultants anyway so I don't see problem!), preferably water birth. Apparently I'll probably have to have extra scans too. Really glad I'm swapping to my friend being midwife, to maintain some friendly grounded-ness rather than being the anomaly/curiosity crip! Midwife today confirmed neither she nor anyone in her team have dealt with wheelchair user before...

This green folder you're supposed to carry everywhere's pretty big, no?! Do you all have massive handbags?!

Music, glad to hear you've solved the dress issue and that that takes some of the pressure off telling people earlier than you'd like.

Mrs love what you did with the dress!

Skip, pleased you enjoyed sharing your news Smile how're you feeling about the scan? Will it just be you and DH going?

Mouse how're you doing in terms of resisting pissing on sticks? I did another yesterday but have decided (and will hopefully stick to it!) it's my last, now that the line's stronger than control and as hormones stay in system ages anyway I've been convinced by the reasoning (some here, thanks all!) to not bother any more.

DH and I have taken on cute nickname for the bean invented by a friend at the weekend, which is fun and again makes it feel more real.

As did needing to buy new bras (with room to grow!) already yesterday... can't believe it! Luckily haven't really had too much soreness though Smile

marmitecheesetoast · 11/01/2017 22:20

Thanks guys, I'm fine, had an afternoon on the sofa with hot chocolate and some left over Christmas chocolate and soon felt plenty of kicks. It's just an added complication being rhesus negative blood type which makes any bumps or knocks potentially more serious. Think I'm definitely becoming that clumsy pregnant woman stereotype now though! 🙈

Will catch up with rest of thread tomorrow as falling asleep now but just wanted to say thanks and that me and bump are fine Smile

FXSkip · 12/01/2017 06:59

ns that's sweet about the nickname - I've been calling mine elfy (Christmas Eve bfp) but DH doesn't like it!!

Can't believe none of the midwives have dealt with a wheelchair user! Good that you can use your friend though, makes the whole experience more relaxing.

Just me and DH going to scan, we're moving house this weekend too (again) so not at all a stressful weekend coming
Up...

marmite glad to hear it!

WantingBaby1 · 12/01/2017 07:45

Hi ladies.

Just checking in to say hello. No real news here, 10+3 today and waiting for my 12 week scan in 13 days time.

Welcome newbies!

Glad you hear all is OK now marmite

Sorry to hear some of you are anxious. Hard not to be. I found a private scan helped lots. We saw a heartbeat and a tiny little bean in its sac at 7+1.

Work has been hectic but I went for that job interview after all. Waiting to hear. There's another position come up now, that would be ideal for me, but they're not interviewing until March, by which point I'll be 18+ weeks. I think I'll have to tell work by then. I'm so bloated I feel I'm already showing and 10 weeks. Is anyone the same? When did you start showing?

Mooseville · 12/01/2017 08:47

Ha, we call ours Dusty! After the first Ovia update which said it was as big as a speck of dust! I love Elfy! Ha ha

I've been getting myself worked up that I can't feel any movements yet, but laid in bed this morning there was some definite kick type feelings... Furst time I've felt more sure that it's definitely the baby and not wind! However I'm still not happy and am still stressing about it, I mean what more do I want??? Confused I think life is just going to be a constant worry for us from now on...
I think since the 12 week scan caused us so much worry with the screening results, I'm just scared there's going to be something else at the 20 week one...

wanting I've got a big tummy anyway, so i can't really comment on when I first showed, it's just got bigger and bigger!!

Glad everything's ok marmite!

A speck of dust?!! Mine has been a Maine blueberry forever, finally got a raspberry today but feels a bit silly when I feel like at my scan on sat they'll say there's nothing there again. I can't bear the thought of it😫

Mooseville · 12/01/2017 14:20

Think positive skip I'm sure your little raspberry will be there waving at you!

MrsG280516 · 12/01/2017 14:33

I've got everything crossed for you Skip

Mine is a little pecan this week. I'm 9+5 and only 6 days till my booking appointment now. Will hopefully get a 12 week scan date in the post within two weeks of the appointment. I called the midwife last week with my concern that I'll be 10+4 by the time she requests a scan date but she didn't think it was an issue, she said they'll just mark it as urgent and we should get a date before I hit 14 weeks. Hoping its closer than that though!

How is everyone else doing? I enquired about NCT classes in my area last week as they were already advertising for August due dates. When I got the email back I couldn't believe the price of them! My friend who has two kids said she did some on the NHS so I'm hoping the midwife offers me some decent ones.

LovelyFishy · 12/01/2017 15:05

Marmite glad you and bump are ok after the fall. I'm bad at taking it easy too but you should try, cake idea sounds good!

Ns my folder stays in my car, so it's at least nearby. I travel into a different county for work so I figured I better keep it handy!

Wanting I feel like I started showing at around 10 weeks (just bloating I guess!) but unless you're wearing spandex leotards no one seems to notice! The coffee shop where I go several times a week only twigged today when I was talking about high chairs and I'm 22 weeks tomorrow!

Moose I've only been feeling definate baby movement in the last week, everyone's different in that respect so try not to worry too much. Smile

MrsG which course are you looking at, Sugnature or Essentials?

MouseLove · 12/01/2017 15:10

Well my little sweetpea / Maine blueberry / grain of rice is hopefully growing ok. Still not got any real symptoms, mild headaches in the evening, poops & bloating and I think... I THINK my boobs are getting sore if I push on them. So yeah. Lol

I'm seeing my doctor this Saturday and my midwife in a few weeks. Exciting but scary.

MrsG280516 · 12/01/2017 15:12

Fishy I was looking at the Signature courses, I think they were the only ones I could see for August due dates anyway. I'm all for being prepared but I guess plenty of people do fine without them.

MrsG280516 · 12/01/2017 15:18

Oooh I forgot to mention I found some maternity stuff on sale in NYC. I got three tops, a dress and three soft nursing bras (grey, white and black) from H&M for 20 dollars. So chuffed, cost me £16.50! Love a bargain.

Mooseville · 12/01/2017 17:26

I didn't know there was different types of NCT courses! We're booked on a signature one, it was £200? My DP really wanted to do it, so we are!!

MouseLove · 12/01/2017 18:07

Tommee tippee perfect prep £120 £60,
Tommee Tippee starter kit £120 £60,

There's another baby event in April and August for those not buying yet (me included)

MouseLove · 12/01/2017 18:20

Also ladies I need some advice. And I don't really want to ask on the TTC thread since it's quite a sad time at the moment for a few of the ladies.

The day before I got my BFP (30th Dec) my friend told me that she was having a miscarriage. She had found out at Christmas that she was pregnant but was very ill. She has pcos and didn't think she could be pregnant easily. Turns out she was right and that she was being very sick and bleeding. She went for a scan on the 31st the same day I got my BFP and they couldn't find anything but she still had HCG in her system. Today she's gone into hospital for an op.

They weren't trying and had come to terms with everything and knew we were TTC but I also want don't want to upset her when we eventually do tell them which might be just before or after our 12 week scan. I'm wondering what I can do for her now and how I can help comfort her. I want to get her something too. Any ideas on how to tackle this sensitive and emotional situation?

Thanks ladies. X

FXSkip · 13/01/2017 08:11

mouse you sound like a great friend, maybe just ask if she wants to hang out and take the lead from her, she might want to go for a little walk or a cup of tea out (I got severe cabin fever when I was stuck in having mine) or maybe she'd want to cosy up on sofa and watch movies. I wouldn't tell her face to face until you've seen her a few times, and maybe even then it might be better as a text or email. It seems more insensitive but it's better for her to have a private reaction and then let her dictate when she's ready to aw you? Just my thoughts, good luck with whatever you decide xx

HepKestrel · 13/01/2017 10:26

(yes i still snoop Wink)
mouse I had an EPRC, so I assume that is what she is on for.
I was quite wobbly when I first got home, and heavily bleeding. But I was desperate for a nice day out to take my mind off it. (we had a nice day out in york the next day).

Everyone is different, but an offer of a nice day out or even a bunch of flowers I am sure would be appreciated. Sometimes you just want other to acknowledge your loss.

LovelyFishy · 13/01/2017 10:33

I must have got lucky, I don't live in a city but I had loads of options! Booked onto an Essentials course which is only £120.

Mouse I don't think I can better FXSkip's suggestion, that sounds like what I'd go for too.

MouseLove · 13/01/2017 10:41

Thanks ladies. X

FXSkip · 13/01/2017 11:19

Hi hep 👋 wish you were here with us 😐

I feel shite today. Had a couple of dry retches in work toilets but still feel awful. Cannot wait to go home and move all of my furniture out of my old house

Who's got nice things on for the weekend?

marmitecheesetoast · 13/01/2017 13:41

Happy Friday!! Grin
This is my second last 5 day week before finishing GrinShock as I'm using up lots of leave to start doing shorter 4 day weeks then 3 day day weeks in March!

Love your cute baby nicknames. We have one too - it helps to have something gender neutral when we can't say 'he' or 'she' (although I'm convinced it is a he!)

27 weeks today and mine is the size of a bunch of bananas now Shock

NS I must admit I don't keep my maternity notes with me but probably really should now... as you say though, would need a massive handbag! And unlike Fishy I don't drive to work, use public transport Hmm

Fingers crossed on the job Wanting

Moose I was still only feeling sporadic movements that I was still not always sure definitely were movements around 20 weeks as I remember asking about it at the 20 week scan. Try not to worry! How many days til your 20 week scan? It's so amazing seeing them at that point!

Hope you're doing ok Skip I can imagine how much harder it must be after last time. Positive thinking though! There's a perfect little raspberry blooming inside you right now in just the right place with just the right developments happening! What time is your scan tomorrow? Will send positive vibes! Hope you're feeling a bit better today now as well. Maybe eating will help?! I found carb loading was what sorted me out in the 1st trimester when I felt like that!

We are also booked on NCT Signature course which was £200. didn't see any Essentials ones. It's 8 week night evenings over a few weeks starting next month plus an organised meet up once all the babies have been born. There was also an option to do an intensive weekend version of it. It is quite expensive, but I have heard from SiL and various friends of friends who have babies (I am the first of my friend group!) that what is so invaluable is the ready made group of local mum friends that you'll have for meeting up with once your babies are born and even for keeping each other company on whatsapp during the long night feeds! So i'm really hoping will make some good friends at mine! Have heard the dads often keep in touch and meet up at the pub now and then too so fingers crossed it'll be worth it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Asda baby event Mouse didn't know about that, will check it out! Hope things go ok with your friend, sounds like some really good advice you've already been given.

Hi Hep wish you were here with us too. BrewCake I'm sure you'll be joining us for real soon.

I have quite an exciting weekend planned actually, pregnancy massage on Saturday and then we are going on the maternity unit tour on Sunday, eeeek! I think that is the first thing that will make this all feel very, very real (it still doesn't feel real? Despite rather massive bump and constant kicking that I'm currently sat watching my bump move with through a jumper at my desk!) Looking forward to seeing the birthing pools etc at the MLU. Have written a massive list of questions to ask.I bet some of them are really obvious and embarrassing questions to ask too Blush

Hope you don't have to work too hard with moving furniture Skip you should put your feet up and direct from the sofa Wink

MrsG280516 · 13/01/2017 13:51

Sounds like it is pretty much the norm for NCT classes then, the one I was looking at was £168 for 4 weekend sessions plus the meet up after birth. I might consider it a bit more in a few months after a few more midwife appointments.

Nothing interesting this weekend for me Skip just catching up on sleep and going to see my parents. Think we've been invited to my Uncle's for Sunday lunch too so that'll be nice.
