Hello!!

This is a new wave of grads for those from #TTC1 - Those on the first grade thread are dealing with poonamis and crying babies, while we are still waving our FRER's and wondering if that line is really a figment of our imagination!

Feel free to join in, if you too are embarking on this crazy journey to parenthood!!

Thanks lovely. You're right! X

MrsG omg have an amazing time!!!

Music I've been pretty hungry all the time but this weekend didn't really eat my evening meal. I still feel hungry though just for different things. Everything is tasting really bland unless it's super sweet. I mean ffs my fatty body could have at least given me a healthy craving!!

6 weeks today. Still feels unreal. 🙈

FXSkip · 09/01/2017 09:57

Yay mouse 6 weeks!! I'm 6+4, which I know but I check Ovia Pregnancy like 15 times a day just to make sure I'm not suddenly 20 weeks! Planning a holiday for 20weeks though, feels like forever away!
I feel headachey and rank, still. And can't stop eating junk 😭 trying to go to the gym most days and yoga every day to try and keep it under control but bloated so look 6 months gone already!! Scan on Saturday, this week is going to draaaaaagggg!!

kavanaughkj · 09/01/2017 10:30

New York! I'm so jellus MrsG, I loooove the Big Apple. Keep wrapped up warm out there!

Working from home today with nice calming study music in the background while a handyman hammers and drills things in an adjacent room :) It's lovely in my new flat though - I have a nicer view from my new desk and I've found a way to set up my work laptop so I have two screens which makes SO much difference!

Struggled a bit with a flare-up of back pain earlier this week, which panicked me slightly. I've had it really bad in the past to the point where I've been incapacitated in bed and paramedics had to rescue me (DH was away at the time, would you believe it). Back then they used gas and air on me so they could get me out of bed and then I was prescribed diazepam and later codeine, neither of which I could have now. I've had an ice pack pressed to it and have a wheat pillow I can heat in the microwave if necessary as alternating cold and heat helps, but I'm praying to God I don't end up in the same position as before as only the diazepam helped. It's only muscle spasms but I've never known pain like it - I'll be interested when it comes to it if childbirth is worse or not!! Anyway, thankfully a night's rest mostly helped (which is unusual, generally it doesn't go away overnight) but I'm conscious it's still rather tender. Have to keep my physio exercises up I think.

9+3 today! I have my first scan on Saturday and I'm tentatively excited about it. :) Tummy still sensitive but not too bad. I seem to be suffering from an abundance of ear-wax as well which is weird.

Bodies are strange aren't they??

Hells, hope you're ok - I'm sure you are!

Star, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine on one slice of cheesecake. My mission today is to find pasteurized feta. I really want a nice greek salad for lunch :)

I've never had heartburn in my life Fishy - I'm getting a lot of indigestion at the moment and a fair bit of constipation though. Hoping the heartburn stays away and sorry you're suffering.

Mouse, ignore the digi! It doesn't know what it's talking about. And stop POASing. You're pregnant. ;)

FXSkip · 09/01/2017 11:01

kav that's interesting about your back - I have issues too and popped a codeine until DH went crazy saying it wasn't safe, apparently he's actually right. According to my Chiro some women with back pain find pregnancy, and its associated ligament relaxation hormones, clear up back pain for good. Other women find it worsens it. I'm hoping that PMA will ensure I am one of the former Confused

marmitecheesetoast · 09/01/2017 12:58

Hi all, hope you had all good weekends! Mine mostly involved part one of major house clear out.... it was productive but we still have a lot to do!! Had a lovely relaxing evening last night though, had a bath while DH cooked a roast dinner Grin There's leftovers for tea tonight too before my pregnancy yoga class, win!
Starting to have recurrent feelings of anxiety/stress/overwhelmedness every night when I get ready for bed though, which isn't great. Just got so much going on at the moment and feel so unprepared, the time is suddenly going so quickly and there's still so much to do on the house and sort for the baby... Work is really busy at the moment too which doesn't help. My head just feels so full. I'm also having to get my confidence out with driving so trying to fit in lots of driving practice too which is important but just another thing taking up time.

Hope you're ok Hells a bit of light spotting, especially brown, is really common in early pregnancy and usually nothing to worry about. Easier said than done though I know. Has it stopped now?

Hope the house unpacking went well Kav, maybe that's what's caused your back to flare up? Fx it's nothing too bad and not a repeat of last time.

Mouse definitely step away from the tests, i believe they start to get unreliable after a few weeks due to fluctuating hormone levels in different pregnancies etc. I'm sure everything is totally fine and you are very much still upduffed! Definitely time to break the POAS habit Smile

Sorry to break the bad news on the sickness front but mine was quite manageable nausea with the odd little vom until about 10 weeks when it got worse. It got worse again around 12/13 weeks when I couldn't eat anything in the morning without being really violently sick until about 14/15 weeks.... hopefully won't happen to you guys but just didn't want you to be caught unawareness that it can kick in/get worse later on!!

Hope you're having an amazing time in NY MrsG! you can eat extra dessert/cake etc to make up for the calories you're saving on not drinking alcohol Grin

How did the birthday celebrations go NS? Did you manage to pull off the fake drinking?!

Star cheesecake is fine I believe (I've certainly eaten some on a few occasions!)

Sorry about the heartburn Fishy I keep waiting for that to catch up with me but so far seem to have avoided it... (sshhh!).... probably have just tempted fate now!!!

Just seem to be having braxton hicks most evenings/nights now. It's so weird, bump goes rock solid, it doesn't hurt though, just kinda strange!

ns1348 · 09/01/2017 15:55

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all for your comments about my cramping, the potential renovations, and the drinking on Saturday, it was really useful.

marmite the birthday celebrations were fun thanks, besides a plumbing emergency which meant emergency plumber being called and moving rooms to socialise! In the end I don't really know what I was worried about with not drinking - we've told closest friends already and it was almost entirely those we've told who showed up (I'd put out an open invitation though, with no rsvps, hence anxiety), and those who didn't know (only 2!) didn't question. Then DH suggested we just tell them... so we did, and that was really nice to then be able to talk about it! Know it is super super early, but I particularly am very open and think I'd want to share if I had an mc too, so feel ok about it. Waiting until after early scan to tell most of our friends still though. Sorry to hear about your anxiety, and overwhelm. Do you have some coping methods? We're big fans of mindfulness - I've done a mindfulness for health cause, and DH mindfulness for stress. And I love baths too - though we won't have one in this new house till mid Feb, can't wait! Sorry too that work's really busy.

My friend who's a midwife has said she could actually be mine, so when I go to doc's tomorrow I might ask about that, as think I'd like it.

I'm celebrating every passing day at this early stage. 4 + 6 today. Feeling more nauseous, which is not fun at all, but also reassuring. Going to buy some ginger biccies. And shattered today.

mouse yey for your 6 weeks!

kav, sorry to hear about your back, hope it continues to get better.

skip, sorry you're still feeling rough.

Moose, sorry to hear your house purchase has been dragging for so long!

kav and skip, excited for your scans, hope your weeks don't go as slowly as they might!

Hells I too hope you're ok.

I'm properly back at work tomorrow (part-time funded PhD student, so treat it as job): hoping it's doable after the early start for GP appointment, as need to commute and work in a room where someone has to open door for you to get in and out, and where not even allowed to drink water, so hope I'm not feeling dreadful!

Mooseville · 09/01/2017 17:24

Sooooo jealous about New York mrs

I'm sure they've got done fabulous shakes and mocktails you can treat yourself to! Or maybe a shopping spree instead???! Oooh you need to buy a I ❤️ NY babygrow!!!

Booked in for my whooping cough jab and got my 20 week scan next week. Wish it would hurry up, feeling the need for reassurance again, it's been 4 weeks since I heard the heartbeat! Still not 100% sure that what I'm feeling is movements, they stop as soon as I try to concentrate on them!

Hope the yoga has helped you chill out and relax marmite

I agree with stepping away from the tests mouse Can only make you worry more as they're unreliable and can fluctuate. You're pregnant and no amount of peeing on stick will make a difference to how your little bean is getting on!

OP posts:
MouseLove · 09/01/2017 18:28

Oh god I just re-read my POAS rambles. Makes out like I've done loads. 😂

I have peed on 5 sticks total. Did complain to clearblue though and they're sending me a new one. Might pee on that too.

Haha. Ok ok. I'm pregnant. It just doesn't feel quite real. 🙈 Has anyone told parents/other people before 12 weeks??

ns1348 · 09/01/2017 19:05

Mouse, I know the not quite real feeling, but yey, we ARE pregnant! We have told parents, siblings, and close friends. I in particular would want to share a MC (and really the whole journey regardless!) with close friends too, and am really bad at secrecy: I'm basically avoiding contact with friends we're not telling yet, so as to not feel weird about not telling them. Also told people who need to know in some sense - e.g. the builder yesterday why we're in a hurry to sort extension if we go ahead with it, when he asked why (he did all our earlier renovations last year, so by no means a stranger!).

Mooseville · 09/01/2017 19:42

mouse I told close family and then close friends as and when we saw them. Usually wine would be involved in our meetings and it's just too obvious if I don't drink! Grin
Again, I only told people who I would be likely to tell anyway if something went wrong.

OP posts:
MrsG280516 · 09/01/2017 20:52

Mouse we didn't tell family until Christmas Day but only cos we wanted to surprise them. I was only 7+1 by then. Once we had our early scan then I told our close friends. Everyone else (and work) will know after the 12 week scan.

Thanks everyone, we're having a great time. Full on snow day on Saturday, it was so cool. I'm more than making up for it with the amount we're eating!! Doing lots of walking but I seem to have done something to my knee and it's taking a bit of a beating going up and down stairs, even when we're trying to use the subway where we can.

Musicgrrl · 09/01/2017 21:15

mouse We haven't told anyone yet but I'm telling two of my friends this week when I'll be 9 weeks. It's actuallyonly because I'm bridesmaid at both of their weddings in July and for one of them she has already bought the dresses so there's that issue and the other we are going dress shopping on Saturday so I feel like she needs to know! I do feel like telling them will be a bit marred by their immediate concerns over their weddings and what to do about dresses. Also I'm worried that by telling the friend who has already got dresses and her trying to return them might jinx me for our 12 week scan somehow! Know that is stupid. I'm going to volunteer to pay if she can't return them because I obviously did know we were ttc when she bought them. It's just we had already been tying for a few months and I just thought I didn't want to have to tell her and then potentially not get pregnant for a year! Just not sure how either of them are going to react. Tbh it's stressing me out a bit! I'd rather wait it out until 12 weeks but I am quite a private person.
Sorry for the rant!

marmitecheesetoast · 10/01/2017 08:21

Thanks NS and Moose yes I do try and take a step back where I can but doesn't seem to working so well the last week or so! Pregnancy yoga last night helped, we do lots of breathing and meditation type bits so that always helps. DH is away at the weekend and instead of trying to do loads more house stuff I think I might earmark the time to get back into my cross stitch or colouring, do some cooking and maybe even book a pregnancy massage. Sometimes im not very good at giving myself a break!

Glad the birthday party went well NS and lovely that you could all talk about it openly. Hope the day back at work goes ok, sounds less than ideal in that room if you have any nausea!

Mouse I told my parents very early on (about 4-5 weeks) as I was staying with them for the weekend and couldn't open the fridge without gagging plus my mum tried to give me wine 3 times within 10 minutes of arriving
We also told closest friends early on as would have wanted their support if anything went wrong. also told a few more close friends and my best friend at work after private scan at 8 weeks (she'd pretty much guessed anyway due to my drastic drop in caffeine intake!)

marmitecheesetoast · 10/01/2017 08:52

Sorry music seemed to miss your post there. I know the pain re bridesmaid dress issues! Where has your friend got the dresses from that has already bought them? Is it somewhere that has got a decent returns policy? I.e. John Lewis have a 90 day refund policy so if you didn't want to tell her before 12 week scan that would buy you extra time? Or even a high street shop who are likely to give a credit note that you could at least use if you had to give her the money?

MrsG280516 · 10/01/2017 12:52

Music my best friend was 5.5 months pregnant when I got married and we had already bought the dresses, they were really unforgiving silk dresses with no stretch but she just took it to a seamstress who put a lace up panel in the back so that it would fit to any size bump and it looked amazing. Only cost her £30 to get it altered too. Don't know if you can see in this photo, she's the one on the right.

So if your friend starts to panic then tell her not to worry :)

#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread!
MouseLove · 10/01/2017 19:21

Hey ladies. Quick question as I'm guessing the majority will have already experienced this. My first midwife appointment is in a few weeks, and I have no idea of what to expect? I'd like to mentally and physically shave everything if I'm going to be examined ahem.

In other news, just ate a pinkish lamb shank at my parents and internally freaking out.

Starmist · 10/01/2017 19:35

Mrs I'm so jealous about New York. Hope you're having an amazing time besides having a poorly knee.

Music I'm 7+1 & don't feel like eating much at all. I felt sick earlier & randomly really wanted spaghetti - I felt better after eating it which I found odd.

FXSkip oh you are good with your exercise, I've barely done anything since found out I was preggers. Good luck for scan on Saturday, let us know how it goes.

Kav hope your back pain settles down. Good luck for your scan on Saturday as well, let us know how you get on. I have a lot of ear wax too! How strange.

Fishy I had heartburn as one of my very first symptoms but it went away quickly. Hope yours goes soon, it's not nice.

Marmite how far along were you when you started pregnancy yoga? Hope things settle down soon & you can relax a little. I have a meditation app which I like to use if feeling stressed, perhaps something like that might help.

Mouse have you found the right opportunity to let your family know your happy news? I had my first midwife appointment today. She took some bloods, wanted a wee sample, asked about mine & the family's medical history, & gave me loads of info. It was good but sort of made it very real which then made me feel both excited & scared!

Sorry to anyone I may have missed. Hope everyone is doing ok.

marmitecheesetoast · 10/01/2017 21:18

Star I started the pregnancy yoga at 16 weeks, after I had to stop attending my usual pilates class - as it was so much abs based work lying on back. I was actually looking for a pregnancy pilates class to replace it with but couldn't find one at a good time. Actually really pleased I found the yoga instead as we do a lot of breathing and relaxation as well as strength exercises and stretches. It's quite a soicalble class too so nice to chat to others who are also pregnant! What app do you use? I have got a hypnobirthing book and cd now which I should probably start listening to as well!

Mouse don't worry your booking in appt wouldn't normally involve any sort of examination. From my experience it'll be bloods, urine and a barrage of medical history questions to ascertain whether you are high risk or not.

Think I overdid it at swimming tonight my hip/lower back feels a bit twingey Hmm I have just booked myself in for a pregnancy massage on Saturday afternoon though while DH is away Grin

Musicgrrl · 10/01/2017 21:52

mouse and marmite thank you for your helpful comments. It's a monsoon dress but unfortunately she bought them back in August! I contacted monsoon to see if they would do a goodwill return for gift vouchers but not heard anything. However today an amazing this happened. I looked on the House of Fraser website on the off chance to see if they had stocked the dress and had any left in the sale and they had 1 dress left - only 1, and it was a size 14. The dress my friend has got me is a size 10 which is a generous 10 on me so I figured armed with a size 14 and the material from a size 10, a seamstress should be able to put something vaguely resembling the original dress together for a pregnant person! So I snapped it up! It's kind of perfect because this way I don't have to tell my friend until after the 12 week scan and even then this dress will still be within the returns window. So I'm a happy bunny! (For now, until I hear that the website was mistaken and they don't have it...!)

mouse that is such a beautiful wedding photo. I love your veil and your pregnant friend looks fab and I love the lace back you got put in! Also - midwife appointment as others have said was fine and pretty uneventful. They test your breath for carbon monoxide, take your blood and heart rate.

I have an appointment with a consultant at 10 weeks because I am apparently at higher risk of blood clotting. Anyone else had that issue? Not sure what they will do about it!

Also - all you guys with the exercise and the yoga are definitely making me want to get my arse in gear!

MouseLove · 10/01/2017 21:58

Thanks ladies. That's reassuring.

No, haven't told my parents yet or anyone for that matter. Just haven't found the right time. I think I'll probably do it after my doctors appointment this weekend and before my first midwife appointment. I'm just unsure how I'll actually do it and who I'll tell before 12 weeks.

DH wants to tell his parents if we tell mine. But I know MIL will tell everyone. My SIL has a big gob too so I'm wary of telling her too. I have no problem with my parents, sister and her fiancée knowing now. We've very close.

I'm actually sat in my parents right now. I'm sure my mum knows. She made a comment tonight which kinda gave her away. Bless her. Think she's desperate for me to announce.

Musicgrrl · 10/01/2017 22:08

What did she say mouse?

My DH is the same about wanting to tell his side at the same time as mine but the thing is that my side is just my mum whereas his side is his parents and sister and her fiancé which feels like a lot more somehow!

Well the only person we're telling before 12 weeks at this rate is my friend who we are doing bridesmaid dress shopping for on Saturday. Telling her tomorrow and will have to tell the other bridesmaid who is a friend she knows from another friendship group so not a close friend of mine. I don't know about you guys but I quite like having it as a secret for now! I'm not bursting to tell anyone.

MouseLove · 11/01/2017 08:21

I'm a designer and sometimes I do freelance jobs and save the money separately. A neighbour wants some work doing and I quoted for it and she said "oh well if he goes for it, you can give me the money and I'll put it away for if you need to finish work" and then waved to my womb. LOL 🤓

I think she was kinda meaning if I ever became ill with my joint problems (I have bad hips and joints) but it was certainly a double meaning comment. She still thinks I had my MRI scan on NYE. Eek. 😎🙈

marmitecheesetoast · 11/01/2017 13:51

For gods sake I've just fallen over at work in the middle of the canteen and landed on my hip that was already hurting. Feel like such an idiot, Have just had to ring midwives for second time to tell them I've fallen over because I'm rhesus negative feel so clumsy Sad

Mooseville · 11/01/2017 14:04

Oh no, hope you're ok marmite Another clumsy one here, it's so embarrassing!

OP posts:
marmitecheesetoast · 11/01/2017 14:11

Thanks moose just got a fright and have really hurt my hip I landed on, it's such a hard floor. Luckily didn't hit bump so don't need to go in for anti-D injection but midwife told me I should go home from work and have a lie down and count kicks. Feel a bit silly and have loads of work to do but I guess if midwife says go home and put feet up....
