Hello!!

This is a new wave of grads for those from #TTC1 - Those on the first grade thread are dealing with poonamis and crying babies, while we are still waving our FRER's and wondering if that line is really a figment of our imagination!

Feel free to join in, if you too are embarking on this crazy journey to parenthood!!

Thanks lovelies I've ordered myself some. I'm still thinking wtf. But have a strong urge to tell my parents with whom were very close with. I just don't know how!! Going for tea tonight. Did you tell anyone this early?

Mooseville · 01/01/2017 15:34

Yeah, we told our families straight away. I just thought I'd be telling them anyway if something were to go wrong so why not share the happy news?! Swore them to secrecy though!!

HellsBellsK · 01/01/2017 16:54

Also told my parents very early on - same reasons as Moose

kavanaughkj · 01/01/2017 17:32

I didn't even think :) As soon as I told DH I took a picture of the tests and pinged through to my parents and my brother and sister and told them we could break out that bottle of champagne I'd been saving for that event. Grin I've always been close with my family and there's no way I'd have been able to keep it a secret from them for any period of time ... and it's more people to celebrate with!

marmitecheesetoast · 02/01/2017 14:26

Aahh my belly button has practically closed up now I think it's going to pop out soon Shock it's kinda freaky

Mooseville · 02/01/2017 14:54

AAARGH!!! I have a big innie and the thought of it popping out freaks me oit!

marmitecheesetoast · 02/01/2017 14:58

Meee tooo Moose!!! Maybe it'll just stay sort of closed over?! Hmm

MouseLove · 02/01/2017 15:19

Well we tried to tell my parents, sister & fiancé last night. Was a complete disaster. My dad said shouted at my sister for something and it all got too much so I ended up leaving my dinner untouched and went home. DH followed a little after. Quite gutted last night. My mum asked if there was something important in the card I'd made them. I took it back home. Haven't told them and now it feels too awkward. Gutted as I'm very close with them all.

I also have lots of people asking how my MRI scan went. 😳 fine... move along people.

Mooseville · 02/01/2017 16:05

Awww sorry your moment was ruined mouse Just let the dust settle and try again... I'm sure they're going to be delighted.

It's strange, a couple of the people I was most excited to tell didn't react the way I thought and didn't seem all that pleased! I guess sometimes we think about things so long we imagine people's reactions and it feels strange when they don't match what we thought.
I bet if you'd announced your news you would have stopped all the arguing dead in the tracks - however I can see why you didn't want to say anything with that atmosphere!

MrsG280516 · 02/01/2017 17:19

Sorry about the awkward situ Mouse I'm sure you'll find the right time soon! They'll be delighted, don't worry.

kavanaughkj · 02/01/2017 22:56

:( Sorry you had such a rotten evening Mouse, I wouldn't have wanted to share the news at a time like that either. Hopefully a better time will come along soon.

Moose, I know what you mean about peoples' reactions being different to what you expected. One of our closest friends we told was very "oh ... really? OK then", which was a little deflating. Another one we told shrieked in a very gratifying manner though which made up for it. Grin Still waiting to tell pretty much everybody else though, outside of immediate family.

Well, finally moved in, but the flat is a complete mess! Sooo much to organise and tidy. You don't realise until you move just how much crap you can accumulate in so short a time. We can barely see the floor in our spare room at the moment. Thankfully I know it's not staying that way though - it'll be the baby's room and I want it organised, so everything will be put away :)

I'm looking at my belly now and wondering how much is lack of exercise/overeating at Christmas vs how much is burgeoning baby belly. I could stand to lose a few pounds but even if I suck in my tummy now I have a poky out bit. Also can't stand to have anything pressing in on my stomach at the moment or it makes me so sick and burpy - basically having to wear leggings tucked in under my tummy at the moment! Seriously thinking of looking for maternity trousers already and I'm only 8+3!

Starmist · 03/01/2017 10:59

Marmite glad the bridesmaid dilemma was sorted. Yes I think the dizziness was caused by low blood pressure from not eating as the couple of times I've felt dizzy were when I'd had a lie in so didn't eat breakfast until quite late. I'll be more mindful of eating regularly from now on thanks.

Mouse welcome to the thread! I'm so sorry your announcement didn't go as planned, I hope you can find the right time to tell them soon.

Moose I was so excited to tell my best friend the news. She knew how upset TTC had been & that we were going for tests etc. When I told her it was practically a tumbleweed moment - no excitement, no hug. Not the reaction I was expecting at all, very odd.

Kav hope your nausea has settled down. Congrats on moving in Smile

Hope everyone is ok & had a good New Year. I'm still off work for another week so no back to work blues for me yay Grin

WantingBaby1 · 03/01/2017 11:17

Hopefully there'll be another suitable time soon mouse.

Enjoy your week off star

Congrats on moving in kav! We're due to move in march. I'll be about 20 weeks by then Confused

So a work dilemma. I work for a huge company on a fixed term contract. A permanent job came up and my boss encouraged me to apply. I did. Then I found out I was pregnant. I've now been offered an interview. Is it OK to go to the interview, hiding my pregnant status and fully in the knowledge that I'll then be off from July on maternity leave, possibly for a year? Or is that just not ethical? It's a huge company employing thousands of people so not a start up or anything of that nature. I'm 9 weeks now and haven't told work yet.

MrsG280516 · 03/01/2017 11:42

Wanting I would totally go for the permanent position. If you get it then they'll just have to find cover for you but it means you have a job to go back to afterwards, which may not be the case with the fixed term you currently have? How long have you worked for them, would you qualify for any additional maternity pay? Always look after number 1 Smile

WantingBaby1 · 03/01/2017 12:14

Thanks Mrs. I've worked for the company for a year and my contract ends in august. Which is when baby is due. I would be eligible for the full maternity package if I got the new permanent job, but only until end of any on my current contract.

MrsG280516 · 03/01/2017 12:59

That would be great then, definitely go for it!

Starmist · 03/01/2017 13:14

Wanting definitely go for it. They can't discriminate against you for being pregnant. As Mrs said you need to put yourself first, this permanent job will give you some security, you've got nothing to lose. Lots of people go for other jobs knowing they are pregnant - it always seems to happen at our place!

marmitecheesetoast · 03/01/2017 13:20

wanting you should definitely go for it. Pregnancy is a protected characteristic and employers cannot discrimate against you for being pregnant in any way in this situation and you are entitled to apply for and accept a new job. Even if they offer you the job you're not legally obliged to tell your employer until 15 weeks before the due date if you don't want to. If it's the right opportunity for you definitely go for
It and see what happens.

Kav have you tried a bump band that buttons onto your normal jeans? Allows you to add an extra few inches of space! I got one from JoJo Mamman Bebe which I found invaluable in early days!

Think I've been having a Braxton hicks tightenings the last few days. This whole pregnancy thing feels like it's really ramped up the last few weeks, starting to feel a lot more real, eeek. This is also making me feel panicky abut not being prepared enough and think
About how much we still need to do Hmm

Sorry your announcement didn't go as planned mouse Sad I'm sure you'll find a better moment soon once dust settles

Musicgrrl · 03/01/2017 14:03

Hi ladies! Sorry I have been AWOL - I found I was obsessing too much about my relative lack of symptoms so tried to limit my MN consumption. Found it especially hard trying not to worry over the Christmas break as there was a lot more time to think!

But anyway, we had an early scan today and all is well - there is a bean and a heartbeat. Measuring a couple of days ahead at 8+1 but I still think I'm 7+5 using ovulation. Also had midwife booking appointment so a very exciting morning!

Haven't caught up with all the posts yet but wanting - definitely go for it. Put yourself first because no-one else will!

MrsG280516 · 03/01/2017 14:17

Great news about the scan Music Grin I had wondered where you'd disappeared to!

Starmist · 03/01/2017 16:53

Glad all is well with your scan Music that must be a relief.

marmitecheesetoast · 03/01/2017 19:31

Great news music how exciting! Have you got the date of your 12 week scan to look forward to now?

Think I might have just shaved my legs in the shower for the last time, it really hurt my back Hmm

MouseLove · 03/01/2017 20:32

Great stuff music that's fab news and great that baby is measuring ahead! Do you feel that its real now? I'm still waiting for Jeremy Beadle^ to turn up and say "ah haaaa you're not really pregnant"

Does anyone use a pregnancy pillow? And also I just booked my first midwife appointment for later this month. I'll be 8+4. What do they usually do that first appointment?

^(I realise this is morally impossible for anyone wondering if I realise he's dead)

kavanaughkj · 04/01/2017 07:16

Thanks for the tip on the bump band marmite, I'll check those out. At the moment I'm living in leggings rolled under my belly.

Nice one on the scan Music! Mine isn't until the 14th and I'm getting twitchy - though still have the nausea, achy boobs and bionic sense of smell to convince me.

I have a pregnancy pillow already Mouse - DH ordered me one as he knows I suffer from back pain. Couldn't tell you the brand as he couldn't tell me but it's like sleeping in a cocoon and actually is very comfy :-)

Well, cleaning bonanza done and I hand in the keys to my old flat today. Hoping we have no problems with getting our deposit back! Meanwhile our new flat is totally cluttered with all the crap we've accumulated over the last couple of years. Taking the opportunity to have a proper clear out - it's not getting put away if we don't want it any more!

WantingBaby1 · 04/01/2017 08:21

Thanks ladies. Going to go for it, even if I do have to buy new suit as my others don't fit Hmm

I just bought a pregnancy pillow too. On amazon for £24.99. U shaped. Looks huge!
