Wow can't believe I'm here 😁 I had a look, but couldn't see any other threads. Hopefully I won't be alone.

This will be our second baby. DS is 3.... 4 in january. EDD should be about 2nd August I think.

Hope I'm not alone for too long!

I was quite surprised as I thought I'd need a GP to confirm the pregnancy (am I getting my info from circa 1975??) But when I phoned my local surgery to make an app they gave me the number of the local pregnancy service. My first appt is 11th Jan (8 weeks) and I have the date for my first scan in Feb. Kinda wished I could have seen someone sooner to confirm this is all real and is OK!

MrsG280516 · 16/12/2016 12:35

TMI I wouldn't worry about the clear blue digi test, you probably ovulated later in your cycle and therefore are only 2-3 weeks from conception. It doesn't add the extra 2 weeks on for your LMP date.

Once your tell your GP you're pregnant they'll either refer your to the midwife or ask you to make your own appointment from there. Unless you have any non-pregnancy related health issues then you don't need to see your GP after that.

MrsG280516 · 16/12/2016 12:37

Glasgow with home pregnancy tests being so reliable these days the GPs just don't really need to get involved, they don't want to waste an appointment basically!

choccyTeapot · 16/12/2016 12:49

Fields, no, it was still too early. It was reassuring to know that everything looked as it should size-wise etc though.
Expecting to see the heartbeat next week, I hope

Fieldsandgrasses · 16/12/2016 13:20

That's good to hear ChoccyTeapot. Person scanning me was, I think, being very pragmatic, but I interpreted it in a negative way. What day is your next scan? Best of luck with it!

choccyTeapot · 16/12/2016 13:32

Thanks, Fields, same to you. Suspect my anxiety is only going to rocket between now and next Thursday!

I think it's probably easy to take their matter of factness more negatively - my DH was most put out our scanner wasn't as "miracle of life" as he was!!

Fieldsandgrasses · 16/12/2016 14:01

Yes. Sadly I have experience to understand why they are pragmatic, and she was exemplary. I have DS and I was so oblivious to everything that could go wrong and unbelievably relaxed then. Will be thinking of you Thursday.

Carlotta82248 · 16/12/2016 14:32

I will see my mw mid Jan, between 8 and 10 weeks, hoping for a bit later as could do with trying to get my bmi slightly more reasonable! Anyone else have raised bmi? Mines very borderline and would like to go to the mlu so going to need to work hard to not gain much weight, and probably lose some initially x

ThirdThoughts · 16/12/2016 15:36

Carlotta, I have a high bmi - but feel fit and healthy in myself. I lost 4.5st this year and my resting heartrate dropped dramatically when I took up running. But I'm really aware that a lot of HCPs won't necessarily see past my current size and weight.

If I was already at my target weight, I wouldn't be gaining (pregnancy excepted), so I already have a 'healthy lifestyle' but it's going to take a while to show in my body, there's a time lag when people are as overweight as I am/was. With the best will in the world it wasn't going to disappear as soon as my habits changed.

Last pregnancy, I had also lost a significant bit of weight before conceiving (I put a lot of it back on slowly over the last four years before starting again) though I had done it mainly through eating changes, rather than being active as I have been now. Despite not being fit last time, I had no size related complications of pregnancy and labour was fast and straightforward.

I am meeting my midwife on the 30th December (though she's on call for birth so it may get delayed!) and I wish I had a couple more weeks to go.

She asked me if I was fit and healthy in our brief phonecall, and I mentioned that I had a high bmi, but that I exercise and eat better than I used to, so felt well in myself. She said that above a certain BMI they need to inform me of the increased risks, but that having a home birth would be my decision. One I'll base on how the pregnancy goes in terms of the baby's health mainly. If I can stay relatively active and eat sensibly, I can't see why it would be a problem.

My pattern of weight 'gain' last time around was losing weight until leveling out around 20 weeks (mix of sensible eating and continued morning/all day sickness), then gaining a bit on booking in weight. A couple weeks after he was born I was over a stone below my booking weight.

Sorry if I've rambled. The jist is, I know myself. Based on that knowledge, I'm not concerned about my BMI (just under 40) but I was concerned about how HCPs might judge me based on it, I was quite reassured that my midwife didn't seem phased, but of course she hasn't seen or weighed me yet, so we'll see!

WantingBaby1 · 16/12/2016 16:14

teapot I have a scan on Thursday too, my first. I'll be 7 + 3. Should I definitely see and hear a heartbeat if all OK?

choccyTeapot · 16/12/2016 16:34

Wanting According to the oracle of Google, the heartbeat is usually visible after about 6 weeks I think

There is so much, often conflicting, info out there that I feel like I've been spinning around in circles sometimes!! Being pregnant is confusing (and kinda scary to me) Confused

MrsG280516 · 16/12/2016 16:35

Wanting I don't think you get to hear it at this early stage as baby just isn't big enough for it to make a noise that can be heard from the outside. I'm pretty sure a heartbeat should be detectable between 6 and 8 weeks, but I dare say there are plenty of women out there who didn't detect a heartbeat until later than that and their babies were perfectly healthy.

DrewOB0 · 16/12/2016 16:39

I could see a heartbeat at 6+3 ( measured) but not hear it. Early scan can be worse than nothing.

Fieldsandgrasses · 16/12/2016 17:46

Agree. I had a scan to rule out an ectopic and it's been so nerve-wracking.

ScottishLady7 · 16/12/2016 18:17

Hi guys!
Can I dip a tentative toe in the water please?
I have just got my BFP after 14 cycles. I don't mind BFNs and had some ICs which picked up a faint positive yesterday, 2 days before AF is due. I confirmed it on a FRER yesterday and then a CB digi today.

I am thrilled but also anxious about having tested too early... I had hoped the elation would last a bit longer!!

I've had some very faintly pink CM today and, as AF is technically due tomorrow, I'm a bit panicked that it might all be over soon...

I think job number one for this pregnancy is to develop some strategies for coping with anxiety!!

Congrats to all you lovely ladies, hopefully we will all be around to get to know each other well over the next few months!

ScottishLady7 · 16/12/2016 18:18

That didn't make sense- I don't mind BFNs and so often use ICs before AF comes just to keep my hands busy!!

ScottishLady7 · 16/12/2016 18:20

Oops, I forgot the important info:
Age 28
TTC #1 for 14 cycles
Never been pregnant before
Currently 4+5 going by LMP but 3+4 when adjusted for cycle length- not sure if that's what they'll do to work out my EDD though!

MrsG280516 · 16/12/2016 19:41

Hi Scottish! It's up to you what you do about your EDD. If you know what day you ovulated, for your peace of mind you might want to give the midwife a slightly later LMP date so that your due date is more accurate. Otherwise when you have your dating scan they might be a bit worried if baby is looking smaller than it should for the LMP date, if that makes sense? It's only just over a week's difference but I'd hate for you to be unnecessarily worried about baby's size vs "age".

Fattycowagain · 16/12/2016 20:19

Threw up at work today...

Fieldsandgrasses · 16/12/2016 21:34

Am so shattered, thought about going to bed at 8.30. So pleased I don't have a Xmas party to go to!

TiredNick · 16/12/2016 23:28

Hello ladies, am so pleased for everyone.

I had a positive clear blue yesterday, been trying for over a year and I reckon due on 24th. Midwife booked for mid Jan, going to find it hard not to tell people before I know all is ok. I'm nearly 40, excited, nervous and worried something will go wrong but being positive. It's my first pregnancy, never thought I would get to post here!

SpaceCats3 · 17/12/2016 07:22

Hello everyone, got my BFP (x3) on Monday, I am due around August 22. No midwife appointment yet (it's coming in the post) but I do have an early scan booked in for 7 January, I'll be 7+3.

36
TTC no. 1 for 17 cycles
No previous pregnancies of any kind, so still in complete shock

putputput · 17/12/2016 07:27

Good morning ladies,

I am 4+1, due on 25th August. Obsessively over thinking everything and knicker checking constantly.
Trying to keep as active as possible.

DP and I are getting married in the beginning of Feb. Have been planning it for 18months so I'm hoping I don't feel too horrendous at 12weeks. So nice to be able to talk about it!!

WantingBaby1 · 17/12/2016 07:47

Hello newbies! So happy for you and your bfps, especially as you've been ttc for a while. It's a lovely (amazing and terrifying) feeling!

Cocochops · 17/12/2016 07:52

Welcome everyone and congratulations!

Have been up since 5 am eurgh - hope this is a one off and not the start of pregnancy insomnia.

Trying to motivate myself off the sofa now to go to park run.

Have a good day ladies
