Hi all, was wondering if it's okay to join you all?? I've had my dating scan today and according to that I'm due 31/08/07, but I've got a gut feeling that babs will be overdue!

As for feeling massive - yes I do. This is my 3rd dc and I never showed this early with the other two. I asked the midwife about this and she said women do show earlier with each pregnancy because stomach muscles aren't as tight.

Oh no, now I'm dead worried because I am 11+1 and I swear you couldn't tell I am pg, as I type I'm sitting here in my jeans as normal and now I'm worrying horribly and no scan until 11 days from now! Maybe as you say it is a first pregnancy thing. Tight muscles! Mind you, I am seriously eating for two so maybe it's only a matter of time until I get a big bloaty tum anyway. Hope everyone's doing good. xx

Holly29,I had nothing last time round at 11+1,went for my scan in my normal jeans etc and when they asked me how far along I thought I was and I said 12wks she looked at me and promptly replied "oh ,I don`t think so you may have got your dates wrong".Two fingers up to her when she had to tell me I was 12+1.

Welcome Maddison

Don't worry Holly, I am 10+3 and have only bloated a little in the tummy but I was really thin to begin with. I can still fit in my clothes. I was worried when I went for my scan on Tue cos I don't have sore boobs, no sickness, no frequent weeing, no tiredness - nothing! I was so worried but the baby was there fidgeting away with a really strong heartbeat and I was further along than I thought! You'll be fine!

Holly29 · 02/03/2007 16:54

Thanks you two. Feel much better now! (back to eating my multi pack of crisps).

emalushka · 02/03/2007 16:54

Who was it that asked about telling people?..... I didn't want to tell anyone until 12 weeks, not even my mum as I was so worried about miscarrying.
However, it was taken out of my hands, as at 10 weeks as I was spotted in the maternity clinic by a friend of a friend and before I could blink, I had lots of texts messages from people asking if I was pregnant. I wasn't happy about it at all, but managed to remain calm! It really spoilt the 'wow' factor of telling people.
Luckily, I was still able to tell the family myself, but had to tell them early, in case they found out from someone else.

Holly29 · 02/03/2007 16:55

and NH too. I am really quite thin too, so I think it should be fine. I'm quite looking forward to getting a bump!

MMooMar · 02/03/2007 16:59

FioFio,know what you mean ,I wasnt big at 20 wks either.....don`t think it will be like that this time do you.
We will be the OTHER women!

Hi emalushka, it was me who was asking the other day.I told everyone after my 12 wk scan last time and just wondered if it was the norm.

Emulshka - I told my line manager the other day as I had some issues about rearraging some training for after my maternity leave, and she rushed straight out and told everyone in my office!! Argh!!! I haven't even had my first scan yet, and I'm getting people coming up to me all the time asking me if it's true! V. annoying !

MrsMar · 02/03/2007 19:00

sorry emalushka, spelt your name wrong. How rude!! I blame the large pot of pineapple I'm currently shoving down my throat with the eagerness of a starving man (only ate about an hour ago! oops!)

emalushka · 04/03/2007 10:49

So, good to hear everyone is well. I'm on a cloud at the moment - everything is going swimmingly. The midwife has been to visit this morning and she is so lovely. I'm booked for a scan at 17 weeks - 3 weeks earlier than expected so am really pleased about that. She has also got me thinking about a home birth. She was very positive about it and said it was a popular choice these days. I'm thinking it would be great to be in my own home, with my partner and mum and 2 midwives to hand, to bring me toast and tea and to have all my home comforts. I'll have to think about it some more.
As for stretch marks - I bought some bio oil, then a friend who has just given birth last week gave me some plalmers cocoa butter. I've been putting both on, just to make sure! Although my mum insists stretchmarks are genetic and as she is covered in them, I have no chance!!
I never realised how many questions and worries I would have about pregnancy. I'm a fairly laid back person, but there's so much to think about. Anyway, enough drivelling on. Take care everyone.

MMooMar · 04/03/2007 12:20

Hi All ,Hope everyone is ok.
emalushka,Lucky you to have a midwife who is postive about a home birth,I would jump at the chance if I was given it.
I would love one but because I had a prem baby last time they really don`t recommend I go for one.

SheRaPOP · 04/03/2007 15:34

MMooMar, I think you still have the right to choose and you could always try for a homebirth but go to hospital instead if you went into labour early again? Of course do whatever you feel best/safest with, I'm just saying this because I think sometimes women get pressured into choosing hospital birth when it's not what they really want. Hopefully some of the lovely ladies in our group who've already had a homebirth might be able to give you their views on it too.

Emalushka nice to hear you're doing well, I've still got the 'queasies' from time to time but I don't mind that much (makes me think it's all still ok in there). Bought some body shop cocoa butter body butter which I think I need more on the top half than my belly at the moment... looks like I might be getting a few stretch marks there. Probably doesn't help that I'm in a tight fitting corset for my opera role at the moment which squishes my poor breasts up till they look like I'm about to burst out of my bustier - hope this isn't going to be detrimental in any way like blocking milk ducts etc (Nettee, I'd love to hear what you think about this?)

Really looking forward to my scan on Thurs (DH is coming too), then I have my booking in scheduled for 13wks (they managed to get me in earlier than the 16.5wk appointment they had originally given me, thank goodness!) Is anyone else going to ask for a test to see if you have immunity to toxoplasmosis? Sorry for the long post, hope everyone else is doing well

emalushka · 04/03/2007 16:49

Are you an Opera singer? What a fantastic job.
I'd love to hear what people generally think about home births. I've just asked a friend today and she said, okay with second babies, but not for your first. You need to be in hospital for that. Mainly, just for peace of mind as you don't know what to expect first time around. I don't know though. Also, in hospital you don't have to worry about making a mess - whereas my home is likely to resemble a murder scene. Can anyone help me decide? Is it too early to be thinking about giving birth?! I'm off for a snooze anyway..... my DP is just making me a chip butty with tomato sauce and soft white bread and butter.... yum yum...

MrsMar · 04/03/2007 17:59

my friend has given birth to both hers at home, and she made it sound fantastic. When she started getting contractions around 7pm she had a bath while the midwives arrived. her Dh lit candles all around the bathroom, and when she came back to the bedroom he'd lit candles all around the room and put some flowers from the garden in there (it was high summer) She had a very short labour (lucky her) and the baby was born after only a few hours, the midwives left at around 3am and left the three of them having a cup of tea and watching the sunrise with their new baby! Sounds sooooo amazing!! However, I'm sure my reality would be very different, hence I'm going for hospital birth for my first. My friend is a nurse and had seen lots of babies being born during her obstetrics rotation, so she was quite confident about what to expect.

laksa · 04/03/2007 18:22

Hi guys,

chattyhan, My sisterinlaw had bleeding for the first 5 months of her pregnancy and the doctors couldn't find anything causing it as the baby was healthy. Hopefully it will stop soon, so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Hammerhead, I have great sympathy for all you ladies who are coping with MS with toddlers demanding your attention! If you don't mind me asking where are you planning on having your baby, is it normal for staff to use the hospital they work at to give birth in?

rachelandbumpsmum, I think all mumsnetters should wear a red carnation so that we can recognize eachother

canadianmum, are you showing much yet with twins? sorry if you've already said.

minniemouse, I am travelling by air but it isn't a problem this early on in pregnancy. I think (others may correct me if I'm wrong) that you only need a doctors note if you are travelling after 35 weeks. Second trimester is generally best time to fly if you are going to

fiofio, I am feeling huge also (not elephantlike but more whalelike) a new layer of blubber seems to have mysteriously attached itself to my rapidly disappearing stomach muscles. Wouldnt mind sporting a bump but to just look pudgy is quite depressing...I just seem to inhale everything in sight at the moment and have no energy to exercise Hopefully I will summon some willpower to go swimming next week, just not looking forward to showing my body off when I feel so insecure about it right now.

Mrsmar, that is so out of order for your manager to do that. Did you tell her to keep it quiet? I would have been quite

emalushka, so pleased you have a nice midwife. I am very at all you ladies who have home visits from your midwives, sounds so much more civilised and personal, not to mention less hassle than trying to find parking at hospitals etc. I am going with the homebirth option at the moment even though noone seems to support it (apart from my lovely dh). I figure that if I can't handle the pain then I can always decide to transfer later but can spend as much time at home in my birthing pool beforehand. It is said that most 1st pregnancies where a homebirth is abandoned are due to failure to progress ie taking too long, not lifethreatening complications etc. I just think I will feel more comfortable staying at home but am very open to the fact that I may change my mind when the pain hits

Sherapop, didn't realise you could ask for a test for toxomoplasmosis. I am just getting the dh to clean out the Litter tray for me...its one of the few perks I've found in pregnancy!

I went shopping yesterday and noticed that the shops are full of smock type tops which are perfect for expanding tums Hmm had a few questions to ask but pregnancy brain and the long post I have just written has driven them out of my head

MrsMar · 04/03/2007 20:05

Hi Laska, when she asked me had I told everyone else, I did say I hadn't as I was going to wait until the first scan. I thought she'd take the hint. Big mistake! Everyone knows now so I just hope everything goes ok at the scan on thursday!

emalushka · 04/03/2007 20:10

I have noticed that too!! The shops are full of smocks and maternity style clothes. I don't think there has been a better time to be pregnant. I went out with friends on Friday night and they were all wearing smock like tops. Kate Moss stylee here we come...

I found that when I was pregnant before I wore a larger variety of clothes than when I wasnt,so probably be the same this time( so will try the smock tops ,some real nice ones about.)

HammerHeadShark · 05/03/2007 11:10

Morning all

Finally getting time to catch up as it has been like a house of pestilence and disease here - DTs have had conjunctivitis, DandV and general snottiness in the past week, poor little mites. DH has taken out the recovered one and I am at home with the feverish weepy one, administering chocolate buttons and calpol as required. At least it has taken my mind of my own sick and tiredness.

Laksa, bless you for the sympathy vote, very welcome just now . to answer you question (and 'course I don't mind you asking!) I will be having my baby at King's rather than the Princess Royal where I work as King's is much nearer to where I live. I had the DTs at kings and was quite happy to be there as my pregnancy got quite complicated towards the end. I did also work at King's (I get around a bit ) and my anaesthetist for my c/section was a colleague/friend which was really reassuring. Lots of my colleagues at the Princess Royal have had their babies there though.

Emmalushka, good luck in your decisions re: homebirth. My friend had her first, and more recently her second, at home with no problems (despite her DD being 10lb6oz - ouch), and was supported by her midwives in her decision and also had a doula who she found brilliant. As long as your pregnancy is complication free you should be able to choose a homebirth if you want to. All the best with whatever you decide.

Am feeling very tubby around the middle even though I don't seem to have put on weight - my jeans are very 'diggy in' around the middle, particularly after our takeaway pizza last night. Fat seems to be redistributing itself weirdly and randomly on a daily basis and it is very strange. Feels far too early to think about maternity clothes so may have to knock the pizzas on the head for a bit.

Hope you are all radiant and fabulous today.
