rachelandbumpsmum · 01/03/2007 10:24

Hi EllieG, I have so much trouble remembering what's going on and who I'm even writing to that I have to have two windows open - one with my reply and one with the original thread (and I still muck it up most of the time)!! I'm not sure if that's pregnancy or just dim-wittedness on my part!

I have a general ettiquette question here - if I want to ask a section of this group (Sept ante-natallers, 2nd time round, C-Section 1st time) a specific question, should I just go ahead or should I start up a new thread? If I start a new thread then how do I let everyone know - post a link here? How do I do that?

Thanks and sorry for endless stupid questions!

rachelandbumpsmum · 01/03/2007 10:45

OMG - I am so stupid! I've just realised that if you scroll up the page from the add your message bit, all the messages are there laid out for just such dimwits as me!! Definitely can't blame that on pregnancy. Am off to hide under my bed now.

canadianmum · 01/03/2007 11:10

Rachelandbump - I think it is fine to just ask the question on here, but if you want a wider audience why don't you start a new thread under the Pregnancy topic and just let us know when you have done it and we can all trundle over and have a look . Or to be very fancy, you could add a link by using the Links info found to the right of the message box (I am looking at it as I write!). Once you have created your new posting just copy and paste its address into the Links code.

Does that make sense????

Sherapop - sorry to hear you won't be on the St. Georges team, was your referral refused because you are too far away?

Mrsmar - still no booking appt for me......

Regarding stretch marks - to paraphrase the Best Friend's Guide to Pregnancy "to avoid getting stretchmarks you need to have been born to a mother who never got them". This is so true!! I have loads (like my Mother) and I moisturised every day, sometimes twice. However, at least the oils and creams feel nice and may help reduce that horrid 3rd trimester itching.

minniethemouse · 01/03/2007 12:03

Sherapop... thanks. I will travel on my second trimester to New York. I hope it should be OK.. i am going to see midwife next week and discuss my concern.

Sketch mark - i got one from Bxxts - coconut cream which recommended by my friends. Very moistured but not sticky.

MrsMar · 01/03/2007 12:15

Morning all... God this tiredness malarky is terrible. Just spent the entire morning snoozing on the sofa instead of going swimming as I'd intended. What a waste of a day off!

Hi Nicki - I used to use bio oil on my face as I used to think it would get rid of a couple of chicken pox scars but it didn't really work, but that might be because they're really old. Might work better at preventing the appearance. It's quite a dry oil iyswim, so it's prob worth putting on as you get out of the bath/shower. As for dh [says very quietly] I think he'd been around the island quite a bit (naughty boy) ex girlfriends kept popping up everywhere in town!!! He loves the anonymity of London (not that he's got exes to hide from here, I hope!!!)

Right I'm off swimming, no honestly I really am!!! maybe just another snooze first....

xx

I did hear that anything with cocoa butter was good, including the very cheap and lovely smelling Palmers cocoa butter! My mum hasn't really got lots of stretch marks on her tummy, lots on boobs and thighs which I've got. Must have inherited them from along with her lovely cellulite and crummy nails! Ah and her lovely blue eyes!

nibbs · 01/03/2007 13:01

This is such a great thread - just difficult keeping up with it all. So good to have somewhere to realise that everyone's got questions and that there are other people out there that can help find the way!
I think my sickness is finally easing away. Still no booking appointment, and still can't quite believe there's something in there - which is my main reason for wanting the scan.

To add my thoughts: I think going non-underwired is probably only necessary nearer the time, as the wiring problem is to do with stopping the milk ducts working, and creating a blockage. But I guess the important thing early on is - if you're growing! - to have something that's really supportive (and M&S do great measuring, even if you don't then buy from there). Further down the line, I found some "sleep bras" from Mothercare really good, as I was falling out of everything else when I lay on my side.

On paints, if you are going to get decorating, top tip is to buy paint with low or minimal chemicals - most paint tins now have a little symbol on them so you can tell (think it ranges from minimal to very high in red). B&Q's paints, Crown and Dulux all have these symbols, so easy enough to buy, and then the paints doesn't smell at all! You can even get water based gloss - so no smell, and you can wash the brushes in water, so no white spirit either, and it dries quicker! win win win, that's what we like.

And on antenatal classes, I think they are definitely worth signing up for (and in most areas you have to sign up early), as you do get to learn about giving birth and your options (information is power!) and - hopefully - you also then get a network of people who live quite close to you for those first few weeks and months afterwards - for cups of tea and walks in the park, and sharing more questions!

Time to go and eat...

nibbs · 01/03/2007 13:02

ps. might have been good luck, but I used Body Shop Cocoa Butter first time round, in a round pot, smells lovely, costs about £10, but lasts for months, and no stretch marks!

Flossam · 01/03/2007 13:55

Pah, I tried everything and nothing worked for me. Stretch marks ahoy! Past caring now TBH. I never had any on my tummy while I was pregnant, it was after DS engaged I got one huge on and more post birth with the shrinkage.

MMooMar · 01/03/2007 14:23

Hi all and welcome to the newbies.
Havent posted for a couple of days as I felt really down the other day ( but TeeCee had me feeling better...Thanks)and yesterday I kept going all light headed like I was going to faint.TBH I dont think I had eaten enough over the two days (even though DP reckoned I had over done things with the housework and that....yeah right!).Feel better today though.

No new bras yet but I think I ought to go and get some as things are starting to bulge.Had some anita ones last time, not fancy but did the job ,really comfy and that.If anyone lives near to Solihull ( birmingham)There is a great little shop in the town called Swells(got them from here) and they just do Maternity stuff,There is also a Mamas and papas in the Touchwood centre if you are thinking of a saturday out somewhere.

Stretch marks ....did`nt get any last time I think it was pure luck and the fact everything was still all tight, but i did use Avent indulgent body cream too so could have helped.Using it again anyway just in case.

MMooMar · 01/03/2007 14:27

Just a thought,
How many of you ladies have already told family and friends. We havent told anyone yet and cant wait til my scan ..next Friday
so I can hopefully flash the scans and tell everyone.

TeeCee · 01/03/2007 14:40

Afternoon girls

With regard to strech makrks Coca butter is good and anything with vitemin E in it.

However it really does all come down to your skin type and your mother and grandmothers skin. You will have inhgerited their skin type and I think you either get stretch marks or you don't.

I got them a bit in my 2nd right under the bump but they have disappeared now.
My friends were so bad thye bled and have left angry red marks on her to this day.

We both used the same creams.

I also used to use olis on my bumps. It just felt nice.

Hi all. Am I in the right place for babies due in September? I had my scan Tues and they said I was 10+0 making me due on Sept 25.

nh101 · 01/03/2007 15:43

I am 29 by the way, live in Merseyside, first baby. Very excited!

Re stretch marks, I have read that what you eat is more important than creams. Eat lots of oily fish and nuts and seeds or take an EFA supplement.

just wanted to say 'hi' to all and welcome to newbies. i am now 13+4 and my ms is getting worse! feeling v sorry for myself and am eating such rubbish i daren't tell you...
as for mat bras, last time round i almost wept in the m&s changing rooms when the fitter produced the bras. i asked for ones without seams so i could wear t-shirts and she said 'you'll have to forget glamour for a few months dear'. hardly 'glamour' wanting to wear a t-shirt!
on a serious note, i really tried to word my cvs message carefully as i didn't want to suggest for a second anything negative about having a baby with downs, to teecee or anyone else, so i am sorry if it came across differently. I know one of the hardest things about having a disabled family member is combatting other people's assumptions so i am sorry if i said anything clumsy.

Anyone else fed up with M/S disappearing and coming back again - with a vengeance. i had nearly a week of feeling non-pukey and now i'm back to being horizontal again, and oh soooo tired.
I've gone global now this week since my scan, and the world seems to own a piece of me, and why does everybody feel the need to touch me? That said i do like being the centre of attention, and people having to be nice to me!

MrsMar · 02/03/2007 13:05

hello all the newbies... this list is getting huge isn't it? I was told september was the most popular time to have a baby as it's 9 months after december, and all those christmas parties and celebrations (though god know how I managed it, dh came back from his christmas party so drunk I had to collect him from a random tube station 40 mins drive from our house at 2am!!)

I'll have to start thinking seriously about proper bras, I'm starting to get the four boobs effect!!

I did have a week off from the nausea (no sickness just feeling like I'm going to puke all the time) but it seems to be back for me too. I don't have that knawing hangover like hunger/nausea thing going on so much now though, still heave each time I brush my teeth though! YUK!

I'm now 11 weeks today (according to my calculations) which is exciting, less than a week to my first scan (thursday next week) trying not to think about it!

I'm off to shove more cakes.... er I mean nutritous and wholesome snacks down my throat!

xx

spraklynewthing · 02/03/2007 13:14

OH MY! Have just noticed a 'Nov 07 thread'. Time is obviously flying even if it feels like it is standing still!

I am officially feeling 100% better - will be 14 weeks tomorrow. Have a revised due date of 1st Sept, although it is looking very likely I will be having an elective c-section, so she/he could, in fact, be an August baby!

Have decided to make the most of my new found energy this weekend and finally do some exercise..

Have second midwife appointment next week with results of my bloods - fingers crossed all is well!

best wishes to all -

rachelandbumpsmum · 02/03/2007 13:39

Hi all,

I'm with you with the ms Sophus - I also was feeling really quite good and then suddenly back walking round with a hand in front of my mouth!

When I was pg first time round and people kept touching my tummy, I'd touch their tummies back - they soon took the hint.

I've got a question about scars etc which is sort of hi-jacking this thread so I've created a new one here if anyone's on 2nd pg after cesarean with 1st. Thanks

Fio - I've got nothing to compare with but I do have quite a tummy on me. It might be because normally I would be sucking it in like a crazy woman, but now I'm just letting my muscles all sag (I'll be paying for that later!) I'm still in my size 16 trousers which were my fat day baggies, but they're starting to strain a little. Still not uncomfortable enough to get in to maternity clothing though, mind you the giant portion of fish and chips and mushy peas I've just had at the work canteen might change all that pretty soon!! Oooer!

MMooMar · 02/03/2007 15:42

Hi Girls,
FioFio I have to agree with you ,I have felt massive this past week, last time at this stage (11+1)I had zilch, half the girls at work couldnt believe I was pregnant. Good job Ive got my scan next week as any longer and people will just guess anyway.Put a top on yesterday and even DP said I was starting to really show now ,even though I have lost weight as well ( can tell from the top of the legs),lost weight last time too must be the ms thing.
