Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 48th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 47th grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 61st outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread <a class="break-all" href="//onwww.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/2588689-we-re-still-teething-trying-to-wean-and-our-babies-just-won-t-go-to-sleep-when-we-re-trying-to-js-for-another-one-it-s-just-mumming-no-11" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Hey Zyla and Chat! Smile Where are you guys up to on the baby timeline?!

Name how thrilling! Not long to go! When do you start mat leave? Enjoy these last few weeks Smile I was such a lazy cow in the last 3-4weeks with DS, it was brilliantGrin

Nessalina · 05/02/2017 23:30

I really don't like the MN grinning smilie... It looks like it's planning something... Grin

Pisghetti · 06/02/2017 14:38

Hi Ness!

Enjoy mat leave Name Smile

I've got a date for my 12 week scan! As my booking in was so late (thanks chicken pox...) the ante natal called me today to get me in this week rather than just allocating a date and sending a letter. It's Friday afternoon. Now need to think of an excuse to get out of work early.....

ZylaB · 06/02/2017 17:58

Ness I'm only a little bit pregnant, about 6/7 weeks, had a scan last week and saw a little heartbeat though!

pis start saying how sick you feel in the morning, go to loo a few times, make sicky noise, then lave at lunch? Or dentist?

NameChange30 · 06/02/2017 18:03

Thank you Pisghetti! Ness I've just started mat leave today, finished work last week Smile

Pisghetti Yay for your scan on Friday! Could you just say you have a "medical appointment" and let them think it's the doctor? That's what I did for my booking in appointment at 8 weeks (think i had my dating scan on a non-work day, I'm PT).

NameChange30 · 06/02/2017 18:05

Oh and at risk of sounding like a broken record, we have a stats spreadsheet if anyone would like to add themselves... it's looking rather empty so it would be good to see a few more people on there! Plus my memory is terrible and it's the only way I can keep up with how far along everyone is.

ChatEnOeuf · 06/02/2017 19:34

30w now Ness, approaching the business end. Scan today all looked okay and we got a lovely 3D picture.

Woohoo for mat leave, Name! Not long now :)

NameChange30 · 06/02/2017 19:36

OMG Chat 30w already?! I swear it feels like yesterday that you joined the thread!

We haven't heard from London in a while... if you're reading, hope you're doing well. If you haven't had your induction or ELCS yet it must be very soon?!

Pisghetti · 06/02/2017 20:39

I can't edit the stats sheet on my phone. I'll have a bash on the laptop at some point.

NameChange30 · 06/02/2017 21:07

Yes sorry forgot to mention that you can't edit it on a phone unless you have the Google Sheets app. Editing should be straightforward on a desktop, but if you have any issues just let me know your details and I can add them.

Pisghetti · 07/02/2017 13:28

Done! Not happy about being the oldest lady in Viroid Town though Shock

ZylaB · 07/02/2017 15:19

pis I'll be older but I haven't put myself on yet ;)

ScottishLady7 · 07/02/2017 21:30

I'll put myself on after the 12 week scan next week name!

Hope everyone is well :) I'm ticking away, being a hormonal mess most of the time at DH but appearing relatively sane to everyone else at least that's what I tell myself and I'm quite happy with that arrangement! DH on the other hand...

Nessalina · 07/02/2017 22:36

I think I've added myself... let me know if I've cocked up
Feels a bit early still to even admit the pregnancy to myself to be honest, but if things go wrong it's good to have Internet hands to hold when you can't tell many people IRL. I was super stressed today and I think it's mostly been hormones - eight more months of mental to go

Zyla I'm glad I'm not the only very early newbie! Lovely to have had a scan already, you must feel so much more chilled!

Pis - will dentist be an appropriate fib?!

Pisghetti · 07/02/2017 22:49

Hmm I was at the dentist relatively recently... I may opt for the hygienist!

Nessalina · 07/02/2017 23:33

Ooh, or they came back with X-rays and you sadly need a filling?

Nessalina · 08/02/2017 09:26

Just eaten two rounds of scrambled egg on toast and I feel sick as a dog. 4.5 weeks is surely waaaaay early for morning sickness!!

Pisghetti · 08/02/2017 10:15

Morning sickness has no rhyme or reason. I've been sick once (Christmas Day). I'm 12+1 today and feel sick as a dog Envy

ZylaB · 08/02/2017 17:00

I'm about 7 weeks and only been sick once, really queasy some days and not at all others. It's all a bit random!

Ness scan was good, another in 2 weeks which will reassure me more because that'll be just past mc time from last time, then 12 week scan 3 weeks after that!

NameChange30 · 14/02/2017 08:46

How is everyone?

I'm 38+1 and struggling with terrible insomnia Sad My mind just won't switch off, I am focused on final purchases and preparations before baby arrives, but if it wasn't for that maybe it would still be racing with the enormity of imminent childbirth and parenthood! Must be more disciplined about doing my hypnobirthing relaxation every single night before bed.

Also, on the subject of purchases, a few questions for those of you who are already parents:

  • Has anyone used a Close Parent Caboo sling? I'd like to try it but my local sling library seems to be out of action so I'll have to get a postal hire and I'm wondering if it's worth it, so hearing your experiences would be helpful!
  • NAPPIES. DH is dead set on reusables and I'm not so sure. I can definitely see the benefits (financial, environment) but worried about the faff. I have bought a few packets of disposable nappies to get us through the first week or so. Now debating whether to be brave and try reusables early on (which means getting newborn sizes) or just wait until baby is big enough to fit the more standard size reusable nappies? Any advice or thoughts much appreciated...
SockQueen · 14/02/2017 14:42

Name I have the NCT Close Caboo and really like it. It's a bit of a fiddle to get used to but Socklet gets on well in it once he's in! I think he'll be growing out of it soon, but it's served us well for the first 5 months.

We've also just switched to reusable nappies - took me a while to build up the courage and get a stash of second hand ones, but we've been using them 2 weeks now and so far, so good. We had one poo leak but that was the sort of poo that would have leaked out of any nappy! I think that the claims the cloth nappy companies make about the financial savings are somewhat exaggerated - they tend to estimate about 18p per nappy (you can get Pampers etc for 10-12p/nappy if you find special offers, they're always on offer somewhere, and own brands like Aldi can be even cheaper) and 8 per day, which we haven't been getting close to since he was about 6 weeks old. I got all mine second hand and with the accessories like a bucket, vest extenders, sanitiser powder etc, we've worked out it'll take close to a year before we make our money back. If you bought them all new, especially if buying different sizes, I'm not sure you would get decent value for one baby.

Practically, I've got into a routine with washing and drying them, but I can imagine with a newborn it would just be one extra thing to add to your stress levels - unless your DH is willing to take complete responsibility for it! It can be a bit gross, especially with poos, but I find it perfectly doable. We have a mixture of brands - some Close pop-ins, some Little Lamb pocket ones, and some Bambooty basics ones, which are also kind of pop-ins. They're all one-size-fits-most, with popper adjusters, and he's been fine in them, but he's >7kg now so can't compare with how a newborn would fit! We only use them in the daytime, I use a disposable at night because he tends to be in it for 10-12 hours and I haven't bought any specific night-time reusables so wouldn't have confidence that the normal ones would last that long.

I'm sure there will be more advice on MN somewhere about different types, and I found the Nappy Lady website very helpful too - she does a questionnaire and will provide personalised suggestions.

ZylaB · 14/02/2017 15:43

Close caboo is lovely for the first few months, but I find stretchy slings less good when baby gets heavier, but yes to start with!

NameChange30 · 14/02/2017 18:56

Sock and Zyla
Thank you both! I would like something soft and comfy for the newborn stage. Luckily a friend has a Caboo that she's offered to lend me so I won't have to hire one after all Smile
I guess I'll want something more structured as the baby gets bigger and heavier but we'll cross that bridge!

And Sock thanks so much for the tips on reusables. I've done the Nappy Lady's advice questionnaire so I'll see what she recommends. I have wondered about asking DH to do the majority of the nappy washing, but he is Head Chef (does the vast majority of cooking) and there will be plenty else to do to look after the baby and house, so I think it will only work if it's a team effort. I'm going to suggest we use disposables for the first month and then discuss whether and when we want to start with reusables.

Pisghetti · 14/02/2017 20:53

The Environment Agency did a life cycle analysis of disposables vs reusables taking into account all factors such as methane production in landfill vs extra washing loads and detergent use etc and the environmental benefits only actually kick in if you go on to use them for a second baby. I wasn't sold on the idea anyway but that really was the final nail in the coffin! DP was keen to use them but as I'd be the one doing the washing etc it was my call.

I see you've got the caboo sorted now Smile I was going to suggest buying one second hand. They cost around £20-£25 and of course you can sell them on again if you either don't get on with it or baby outgrows it. I'm slightly sling obsessed and have far too many. I never got around to trying the caboo but I know lots of people rate it.

corgi88 · 18/02/2017 22:17

Howdy ladies! Name you are so close! How exciting! Thanks for all the nappy chat - I was torn between reusables and disposables as well but environment agency study is interesting...
My 20 week scan was all good - she even did a 3d face scan for us, it looks so cute already 😊 still unknown flavour though as I want the surprise!
21 weeks now and starting to get more regular kicks which is lovely.
Hope you're all doing OK!
