Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RosebudIncubator · 11/02/2007 21:21

Hi Ladies,
When is one's bump "supposed" to drop? Mine's dropped in the last 3days (@ 32 wks), and it's given me stretchmarks (...also in the span of 3 days!)! :-( ... and a lot more pains (suffering from SPD anyway).
Have a MW appt on wedn & not sure whether I should be worried & call them tom.

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2007 21:23

I know eca - I thought she was never going to have her!!!!!! She was convinced her dates were incorrect anyway, so just kept telling the whole of the medical profession "no!!" - and her LO was born at home, 10lb 6oz and as healthy and happy as they come!! Her placenta was huuuuuge!! and a wee bit "worse for wear" ....

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2007 21:24

I have no idea RoseBud (who are you btw??) - just give them a wee call in the morning for a chat (or now even, they'll be there - not like my unit!!) - Try to worry too much petal. [hugs]

CaptainDippy · 11/02/2007 21:29

Right, now going to drag my huge fat carcass off to bed. See all you ladies tomorrow .... Hope you all have good night's sleeps .... I bought two new (expensive!!) pillows today - hoping it makes a difference. I think my last two might be prehistoric - going to try and sell them to the Natural History Museum!!

Eddas · 11/02/2007 21:30

Rosebud, with dd i don't think my bump did drop , everyone kept commenting on how high I was carrying, so can't be much help. Mind you i'm convinced this one is lower/bigger/and stronger. Someone asked about the strength of kicks earlier, well mine seem pretty strong. They can be all over the place too, I know this one shifts quite a lot as one day kicks at at the top the next they're down below!

I've got loads of stretchmarks too, mainly from dd, actually don't think this baby could add to the tally as there's that many already!

If you are in pain i'd definately call the mw even if you only speak over the phone, that's why they're there.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 11/02/2007 21:31

i'm here!

Good luck with selling the pillows CD .

Can't believe how many posts i've made tonight, must have verbal dihorea(can't beleive i just tried, and failed, to spell that)

WestCountryLass · 11/02/2007 21:38

Bramshott

DS was 6 weeks early so I had swabs done with DD but no infection detected so was allowed a homebirth

The only reason given was spontaneous onset of labour (???). I actually think that there was an element of fetal distress as he was born with his hand up by his head and his cord was tangled round his hand/neck, plus I had blood stained waters.

DD was just a hephalump And a week early was fab, I had convinced myself she would be late by that stage so it was very nice to have a helathy baby a week before my EDD

eca · 11/02/2007 21:41

Night CD! Sleep tite! Am of new pillows. Ours are flat as pancakes!

Don't know about bump dropping rosebud. But at overnight stretchmarks! I was thinking I was doing well with just one or two on my legs, but maybe i shouldn't count my chickens etc!

IsabellyMoi · 11/02/2007 21:54

It's been a while since I've posted...been trying to stay up with the posts, though.

CD - glad your mw friend could give you reassurance over the phone. Hope the pain isn't too bad/doesn't start again.

Bramshott - hope you are feeling better soon ((HUGS))

Bugmum - I vote along with everyone else - buy the pram. As you point out, you'll probably get a good resale price on it and it is worth the money to avoid being frustrated every time you try and take both kids out.

9weeks - Yeah! about being done work on Thursday. This is my last week, too, and I'm so looking forward to having some time to tackle all the jobs I haven't done yet.
Well done to all of you who are painting, packing hospital bags etc...!

Do you all know what position your babies are in? Mine is still head up. The MW said it still has plenty of time to turn (and she's right, of course), but I did read online that by now (almost 32 weeks, for me) about 85% of babies were head down. I've just had a chat with my bean encouraging him/her to get with the program and and get in position!

WestCountryLass · 11/02/2007 22:02

Bugmum

Get the pram!

I didn't get a double with my two and I have already bought one this time round - it was a nightmare!

My DS (2.9) was a good walker but there were times that pushing him and carrying DD was bloody hard work. I also had a buggyboard but would gladly burn it as I got so cheesed off with kicking it as I walked.

Also, once the summer comes, if you go out for day trips, sometimes the older one jsut gets tired and needs a rest.

Buy it, buy it, buy it!

IsabellyMoi · 11/02/2007 22:02

Rosebud: Here's something I copied from another site:
..............
Generally speaking in most first pregnancies, the head doesn't engage until around 36 -37 weeks.

If there are no signs of early labour such as tightenings or contractions, you are not leaking fluid which might suggest that your waters had broken and your baby continues to move frequently, then it is most likely to be of no significance.

Sometimes the head can appear to be engaged on the outside but a vaginal examination will show that it is still quite high.
............
I have a friend whose baby engaged/dropped around 30 weeks and she is now overdue and still waiting! I wouldn't worry too much. Of course, the standard advice applies: if you are concerned at all, talk to your MW.
Did you find you suddenly had more room to breathe/eat after the baby dropped?

Eddas · 11/02/2007 22:06

Isa, re position of bump, i think mine is head down but only coz kicks are at the top. I think with 2nd+ pgs the babies are pretty free to change position until labour begins.

Is it your first? Sorry can't remember

I know there are positions to lie in to encourage the baby to turn to the correct position, cant remember which though!!! That's not much help is it ?

Eddas · 11/02/2007 22:10

WCL, been thinking about double buggy for dd and bump but figured as dd is 2.10 when baby due I should be ok without. Would you say otherwise? How long do most dc's use a pushchair for? Thought by 3 they'd be walking mostly, but ISWYM about the long days and tiredness.

RosebudIncubator · 11/02/2007 22:12

Thank you!
Definitely more space to breathe and she is kicking slighly lower as well. (Half way between bellyt button & stomach, as opposed to normal stomach and ribs) Very active!
Reassuring to hear that it can happen earlier & not mean premature labour. Phew!
It's a bugger about the stretchmarks though.. guess skin couldn't cope with the sudden stretch. (I just put on the trousers I wore last Monday to work, and they wouldn't close by about 10cm. That can't be all the chocolate and bread and tatties, can it? )

Eddas · 11/02/2007 22:16

Rosebud, dd had huge and sudden growth spurts and still does (she's 2.8 at the moment in size 3-4 clothes)!! That's why I got such bad stretchmarks. 10cm sounds alot though! mw will measure you on wed though so should reassure you on bup size. Mine is always slightly bigger than average but nothing to worry about, think that's the crap diet though

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 11/02/2007 22:30

right, caught up now!

Bugmum Matthew will be over 3 1/2 when lo arrives but i've still got myself a double! only a cheap one but that's cos i drive so won't need it much.

CD pmsl at the tea comment, Stephen drinks loads, I keep calling him old because of it

OP posts:
EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 11/02/2007 22:34

ooh, i've got 8 weeks left today!

OP posts:
Bugmum · 11/02/2007 22:43

On my way to bed, but wanted to say thanks for the all advice re the pram; have just said to DP, 'Well, the girls on my thread said I should buy it, so I'm going to.' Isn't it nice to have a place to get opinions you instantly trust?

Rosebud - just to add, it sounds fine to me, but your MW won't mind at all if you ring for a chat, and of course you should rather than worry.

Hope everyone's aches and pains are gone by the morning, after a great night's sleep (on whatever kind of pillow!)

Bugmum xx 30 weeks today

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 11/02/2007 22:52

Eddas at well over 3 Matthew still gets tired on trips out for the day, and for the sake of the £5 it cost me at the car boot will definately be worth the money
ebay is a good place to look, if the seller is not willing to post and says local pickup only you can sometimes be lucky and find one near you very cheaply.

Morning everyone,
Eddas, nice to have you back - I spotted you on another thread and was wondering whether to ask you to come back!
Can people tell themselves which position their baby is in? I think mine's still traverse as my bump isn't symmetrical (it's very amusing to look at - my bellybutton's not in the middle) and most kicks are on a particular side. But when I feel I can't tell which bit's which.

Eddas · 12/02/2007 08:45

Katy, i've always been lurking but dh is usually on online chess!! Managed to kick him off for ages last night hence all the posts .

Think I may well get a double buggy. I do keep shoving dd in the pushchair as punishment for running off etc so really would be best to keep the threat alive!!! SIL has her old one still and has said to ask her first before buying. Will see how much she wants for it.

Katy44 · 12/02/2007 08:50

Someone else is posting!
How come when I'm at work there are thousands of posts during the day, but when I'm off I'm the only one?!
[paranoid smiley]
Hope you get your double buggy Eddas!

Katy44 · 12/02/2007 08:50

What would a paranoid smiley look like, I wonder?

Eddas · 12/02/2007 08:51

A little like me maybe??!!!
