Was planning to nip out somewhere after the first phase of labour and touch up my blusher and eyeliner at least

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:59

Dont laugh but I am honestly going to prepare a crib sheet for dp re outfits for the little one... he is rubbish with knowing what goes together.. like black and blue and brown.... arghhhhhhhhhhh

I bet you all think I am a crazy obsessive now!!

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 17:00

No not at all, but then I am your loving stalker!
Do you mean for immediately after the birth? Or later on? Surely after the birth they just come out in vest/sleepsuit & blanket??

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 17:03

Out of hospital...not out of your body!
Just to clarify - I know this is my first but I'm not quite THAT naive!

maveta · 13/02/2007 17:20

lol @ katy

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 17:30

Back in my position as chief stalker, where is zazas?

muminabigtumi · 13/02/2007 17:41

GMM - I know what Pease pudding is and a stottie!!!
I went to Uni up in Newcastle

Sorry to hear you are feeling pants SOSPL - sending you some virtua yum yums to cheer you up.

AngeG - thanks for the update re CD - big hugs to her please from me!

Well I am back from the consultant - a very nice lady - very informative and took a great deal of time to explain what probably went wrong last time and how they would make sure that I would be fine this time. I won't go into all the ins and outs but basically I have signed up for a Spinal this time rather than an epidural. She went through the procedure and what would happen before and after - I have to say that apart from the fact she didn't have my notes (not surprised at all as they never do) both Phil and I came out feeling alot more posative, we got theimpression they would really try hard to make this apositive experience for us this time - here is hoping!
Managed to persuade Phil to nip for a look round Mamas and Papas on the way home as we were without James - there was lots of lovley stuff but I really want to wait to see what I have before I get anything else.

Oh and my other news was - I got a delivery of a dozen red roses from my lovley husband for valentines day....think Phil was a bit p*d off that they came today and not tomorrow but I don't mind at all!

Don't have to think about cooking today or tomorrow now as my Dad's fiance was looking after James for us this afternoon - we came back and she made us a lovley big pasta dish for dinner and Phil has just whipped up a Chilli for tomorrow night - result!

Re nighties - I got a cheap and cheerful massive nightie from Matalan last time for £3 for labour. I assume this time I will just be gowned up but have got some lovley kimono style jammies for after - easy boob access etc...glad I bought Lansinoh cream now after hearing the rave review...

I am going to get a little emergency bag ready for James too after the talk about that yesterday - good idea again ladies.

Catch you later after my yummy tea that I didn't have to cook - HURRAY!!!x

9weeksandcounting · 13/02/2007 17:45

RFOL at nighties thing! I have never got round to wearing one during labour - but would recommend several pairs of bigger fitting cotton pjs for afterwards and some cheap slippers - by the time you pee and bleed on them you won't be wanting to take them home! same goes for pjs tbh!

maternity wards are usually very hot so would not bother with dressing gown either.

I had a go at packing my bag today - few things missing - and yes I am taking makeup! This may sound a bit mad but as makeup looks like it is running out I have put it to one side for my maternity bag and got new stuff.

Birdiebump - wouldn't worry too much about ds1 not doing homework - a few gentle threats should go down a treat - if not ask his tutor if he can go on a homework report to check it is getting done. That'll soon sort him out! Also check he is actually writing it in his diary in the lesson.

SOSPL thanks for the tip re lansinoh - may be a lifesaver if relaly going to go for BF this time.

Off to nose around other threads!

9weeksandcounting · 13/02/2007 17:48

ROFL even!

I chuckled at the Surf advert where the woman puts on all her clothes and then fell over trying to put her socks on - not only do I look like her at the moment, putting socks on (and tights esp) is a nightmare!

9weeksandcounting · 13/02/2007 17:48

MIABT - glad all went well at appointment

maveta · 13/02/2007 18:00

Quick Q. girls...

am on my way out to antenatal exercise class and have put on a pair of black maternity pants my SIL just gave me. They have an elastic band on what I think is the back, because that´s where the label is, and a normal panel at the front. Neither side is higher just normal the elasticy bit seems to go at the front and I don´t want to look like a right wally wearing my pants back to front..

Anyone know??!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 13/02/2007 18:03

Love the nightie chat! I have to say I did have a shower and put on full make up and styled my hair before I went to hospital last time. I didn't want to look too minging to start with.

9 weeks, I think it was WCL who recommended the nipple cream - can't take the credit for that one.

MIABT, glad your appt went well, and you feel a bit better armed this time. V of the roses, and meals prepared for the next 2 nights!
I am getting lazy, I cook from scratch one evening, and then the next evening we have something that just gets bunged in the oven and I can add vegetables/potatoes too!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Tili, how are you doing this week?

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 13/02/2007 18:05

Maveta, sounds like the label should be at the back. Would make a great funny story for later though if you do get it wrong!

Birdiebump · 13/02/2007 18:48

Have eaten 3rd yum yum (from pack of 4 - DS1 had the other to soften the blow for the lecture ahead..) !!!

MIABT - what kimono pjs? I want something nice like that for after. Have got one v good maternity nightie and 2 cheap ones. And what about bf tops/bras etc. I can't find any from last time, and I appear to have lost all my feeding bras (don't mind too much cos they were minging in the end but it's a hassle to get new ones). I think you're supposed to wait until after the birth to know what size you're going to be? Nightmare.

hensden · 13/02/2007 18:49

GMM is your DP colour blind or just "alternative" my DH says he's not but swears his pink shirts are blue The few times he has had to dress DD his choices have been a little odd, but have always turned out looking quite trendy in a strange boho sort of way.
I'm in awe of all of you who are moving/selling houses at this time how do you manage?? DH has now decided we need to convert our loft and has got builders starting in March I've been asking him for months where we are all going to sleep come April, as we live in a small 2 bed bungalow and DD still sleeps with me, he leaves it till now, I'm due 8/4 so I think it's cutting it a bit fine but he says I'm being dramatic....
MIABT glad you had a good appointment, flowers and food you lucky woman is anyone planning anything special for tomorrow ?

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 13/02/2007 19:17

Hi All.
Happy 21st charnbump...hope you are having a lovely day.Have just skimmed posts at the mo and have forgotten some of the things i meant to say..again!
How is Captaindippy?and MIABT would you mind explaining the difference between a spinal and an epidural to me?and why you went for the spinal?
Are you having a section?
Hope everyone is well.I am being kicked quite powerfully at times which i love...by the bean

muminabigtumi · 13/02/2007 19:59

Hi Birdie

The PJ's were from Tesco - £14 and a pale pink oriental style - the top is wrap over and the bottoms are just normal elastic waist. They are really pretty and feminine and for post natal - after all the gory stuff is mostly out of the way. I also bought two nursing bras and a nursing vest top from Mothercare and some tracky comfy bottoms for in hospital and afterwards. The nursing top is fab - v comfy and I think I will get a couple more of those rather than the bras as not only are they cheaper but just seem like a really good idea the bra is inside the top already IYKWIM the nursing vest tops were only £10.

Dooby - I am having an elective section this time. Basically the epidural and spinal are very similar but they use a finer needle with the spinal and go into a different nerve space in the back between your vertibrae rather than in the "epidural space". The epidural is great pain relief for labour and is more than adequate and takes about 20 mins to kick in once given. They use quite a weak anasthetic solution so that you still have some limited mobility and can move your legs etc. The epidural can be used for surgical procedures too, however in my case they left me for a couple of hours so my epidural had worn off so I could feel the contractions enough to push more effectivley and then when everything went a bit pear shaped it was a big rush to get the baby out and so the epidural was topped up but not given time to take effect and so the pain releif was inadequate in my situation and I ended up having to go under a General as they just had to get James out quick. If the correct procedures had been followed and it was a non emergency situation the anaesthetist informs me that they would prefer to give a Spinal anasthetic for a c section. This is much stronger and you are totally numb to pain from the breast down, you can feel touch but not pain....you can't move your legs etc.

Also the consultant told me that one of the other benefits of a Spinal is that they can also give you painkiller at the same time (Diamorphine) into your Central Nervous System which will last up to 48 hrs after birth and so unlike when I had my last section I would not need to have a Morphine drip for 24 hours afterwards (which made me very sick).

Thats about as much as I took in from today anyway! lol

evening folk s- hello to you all.
hope you are all ok - cdippy - any more news?
love to hear the nightie / pj chat. on another thread -- someone advised dark slippers, pjs and nighties - potential staining and leakage. i have packed 2 nighties - a good ol fashioned nightshirt for labour that buttons down the front. i have another one in case i puke etc.

someone mentionned giving birth in the nip and that you dont care what you are in by that stage. i am completely different on this and am as worried by this as i am by the labour itself- and have talked my real discomfort on this with MW. she has reassured me that i dont have to feel under pressure to be au naturale. phew for me!

Eddas · 13/02/2007 21:00

Everyone's disappeared!!

I'm completely shattered today, think it was the mammoth drive home from work which should have taken 30mins and took 1hr30mins!!! Does anyone else live somewhere where if one road gets blocked the whole f'in town gets blocked up?! All very annoying, but hey I'm home now.

Off for a bath in a bit to try and relax, hope I don't fall asleep in it

Eddas · 13/02/2007 21:10

As no ones about i'm off to soak in the bath, then try to heave myself back out God I feel huge!!!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 13/02/2007 21:16

Hi there. Feeling really hacked off tonight. Sorry, this has not been one of my better days.
I am just so fed up/frustrated with feeling physically incapable of doing anything simple. Everything leaves me worn out. I can't bear the fact that getting up from the sofa requires such immense effort.

I am also hating all the baby movements, which go mental whenever I eat anything. It gets to the point where I fear eating as can't bear the feeling.

I am concerned that by the end of this - and I have still got 11 weeks to go, that I am going to be psychologically screwed.

I am really sorry for this vent. I have talked to dh and he really doesn't know what to say. I know this is all part and parcel, but I didn't feel as incapable this early with Becky!

twinkle183 · 13/02/2007 22:23

Hi girls...

Not long to go now... Have started experiencing problems - about 10wks ago I felt the need to stand on a stool to put some things away on the top of wardrobe and unfortunately the stool went from underneath me making one leg go one way and the another!! Since then I have been getting this uncomfortable pain in my groin (I think that is how you spell it) - well the place near my never regions... So have finally got up the nerve to go to my midwife to see what it could be!!

Anyway thats enough of moaning!! Am off to try and get some sleep thats if I can get comfortable...

Take care

runnyhabbit · 13/02/2007 22:38

I have been having the most strongest Braxton Hicks tonight. At one point actually thought labour had started Felt quite sick, not sure if that has anything to do with the amount of rubbish I've eaten today, or scary thought of baby arriving 8wks early.

Has eased off a bit now, thank god.

Will catch up properly tomorrow

xx

9weeksandcounting · 13/02/2007 23:29

Hi Runny and SOSPL - with both of you on both counts - think may be scarred by this whole pregnancy (mentally and phsyically!)and my braxton hicks were mega strong today Been chatting to dh and getting closer to booking in for elective! DH can take 4 weeks off work which will ease the whole situation a great deal.

Have been to bed already, lay down - WIDE AWAKE NOW! Welcome to the insomnia club!

Have decided to change name earlier this week!

8andahalfweeksandcounting · 13/02/2007 23:31

there we go! Sounds much better than 9 weeks! If go for section could be 6 weeks ...
