Stocked up on nappies, breastpads and Lansinoh cream today

If you are a first timer and planning on breastfeeding, definitely get a tube of Lansinoh cream. It is nipple cream for e chapped nipples and it is so soothing, certainly takes the edge off the sandpaper effect! It's liquid gold!

Hi WCL
Sometime soon I plan to find and put together all those "what to put in your hospital bag" / "what you need to have in for the baby" threads and put them all together as I keep thinking of things and then forgetting them again.
Have just been for AN appt. Was told baby was measuring 1cm small. Is it more likely I have a small baby or my dates are out? I want April here already, can't bear the thought of waiting another week or so - plus that would probably tip me into MAY!

maveta · 13/02/2007 16:13

Katy44 - I´m not due til 25th April anyway so keep trying not to think that really, he´ll probably be a May baby. It´s too depressing!!

GMM- yup you might just get to wear the flip flops after all!

BTW - Katy44, when you get that list together, feel free to share I went mad a while ago buying things and getting all organised but it´s all fallen by the wayside lately..

My sister gave me two nighties for the hospital lately, just your bog standard button down the front mothercare ones. I always wondered why the women on those birth progs look so chavvy and now I know why. It´s kind of hard to look stylish in that particular item

Birdiebump · 13/02/2007 16:15

Just got back from M&S with lovely packet of yums and have scoffed 2!!! Whoever started this yum yum thing on this thread has a lot to answer for....

Katy44 I measured several cm too large with both my previous ones and am 2cm over already with this one (after having been 1cm under a month or 2 ago!). In last 2 pgcys have been 12 and 18 days late so I think size counts for absolutely nothing with regard to your due date, tbh.

And thanks to everyone for their words of support re DS1. He is due to walk through the door in about 5 minutes, to the bollocking of his life, poor lamb....

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:16

maveta - will do - I'll just create one big thread with links to all the others.
How many nighties do I need anyway? (It's not something I really own). Should I got for cheapest I can get or might I wear them for a while after the birth? What do you give birth in anyway - a nightie or a huge T-shirt (I'd have to buy one specially - don't even think DH's would fit round the bump at the moment!)

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:17

I had never heard of yum yums either, never seen them in M&S but think I'll get some next time I'm out now!

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:19

Oooh ordered a moses basket from boots and it's on its way!! So exciting! The only thing is I don't think it comes with a matress

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:20

Katy Greggs sell them... you will have seen them.. not sure if they are called something else down there mind...

Still I bet there is only you and me that knows what pease pudding is...

Maveta, when I say flip flops, I mean birkenstock type things... have them on today actually in sunny scotland, but thats only cos I couldnt reach to get boots on this morning, plus when I get to work I change into my tigger slipper socks!!

maveta · 13/02/2007 16:22

Katy44 - I think most of the books say take a couple, I guess someone can always go out and get you another if it seems necessary. The ones my sister got me are like long t-shirts (above the knee) with buttons down to just below your boobs. They look HUGE but will probably fit nicely by the time I am 9 months gone. Scary thought.

I would imagine you´d give birth in one of them and have one to change into afterwards?? So maybe you´d need another just in case you are in another night or two, to have a change?

Spot the first timers or what??

maveta · 13/02/2007 16:23

Okay GMM - but you have to promise not to put socks on with them, no matter that you´re pregnant..it´s NOT. ON.

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:24

I was thinking of taking a couple of scratty nighties for labour etc, and then a pair of decent pyjamas or somthing for visitors... having said that I am hoping to be in and out in a day if at all possible!!!

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:26

No far too hot for socks...

I'm really bad, I'd rather be too hot or too cold than look a mess... everything has to be colour coordinated!!!

Oh I got the nursery painting finsihed at the weekend, and my curtains have arrived so we are getting sorted!"!

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:31

A couple of nighties for labour!!!!!!
I don't want to know....
Glad the room is finished GMM

maveta · 13/02/2007 16:32

Oh yeah, I forgot about jim jams. I guess I´ll have these two nighties and then my normal pyjamas when I want to look a bit more presentable. I think the normal stay here seems to be at least 2 nights so it depends..

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:34

eh Katy? Missed that one...

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 13/02/2007 16:36

Maveta, I know what you mean about the nightdresses - they are awful, and expensive.
I bought a nightdress thing from Asda for 4 GBP. It is a size 12-14 so should be ok. It is pretty dire, but at least it was cheap! I think I took 2 in last time. Can't honestly remember what I wore during labour - I think it was probably one of those hospital gown things thinking about it where your arse sticks out. Tbh though, you won't give a monkey's what you are wearing when the time comes and won't care what's on show either!!

Birdie, I am afraid it was me that started the yum yum fetish! I started a Duncan James in Lycra fetish as well, but it seems I am the only one who gets a kick out of him!!

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:37

I mean at what point do you need to go and change? Are you not too busy giving birth?
I like to know these things!

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:41

Well I suppose it depends how long you are in labour for, whether you are sick, meant 1 for labour, one for afters and then something a bit more reasonable for when visitors come...

I like to be prepared... a spare nightie isnt going to go to waste!!!

hensden · 13/02/2007 16:45

Hello all, just trying to catch up with you all, just wanted to add my bit to the nightie debate both labours I ended up naked so hot and nothing was comfy and just didn't care by then. Need a few after with leaking nipples and all that.....
Feel very of all you eating yum yums I just don't seem to be able to much at all lately just feel full all the time.
Happy birthday charnbump 21 wow.. I was 21 in 1988 now you've made me feel really old.. I'm off

maveta · 13/02/2007 16:46

Oh Katy44, I think I confused you. I meant you would need 2..1 for during and 1 for after..presuming the 1 you were wearing during looks a little the worse for wear for the experience...

I don´t think you need to change nighties halfway through Can you imagine?!

MW - come on dear, just give us a push
Katy44 - No, wait, I have to change my nightie, just CAN EVERYONE HANG ON A SECOND?!
MW - Dear Lord.

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:47

Not to mention my slippers as well if they didn't go with the new nightie

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:49

you will need matching hair accessories too....

hensden · 13/02/2007 16:55

Don't forget you'll probably need to refresh your make up once or twice, don't want to ruin the photos

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 16:57

well, a solution to that would be, once you think you are going into labour nip out to house of fraser or somewhere similar and have your make-up airbrushed on... then it will last...

Katy44 · 13/02/2007 16:57

And I'll have to make sure DH takes coordinating outfits as well
