Shell try to book those lessons soon if you can. In my area I had to book quite early.
I love lessons, pretty excited
Oh no Piano I hope you get some rest.
Thanks London that is a relief, so I will do it after the classes then. Since I know nada atm!

gumbootsandjandals · 11/11/2016 16:10

The thing with NCT courses is that the content really depends on the teacher. Apart from all the bf stuff. There is A LOT of bf stuff. And, like everywhere else it seems, it tends to focus on the benefits and glosses over the potential difficulties and how to overcome them. For example, I'd never even heard of tongue tie until after I'd had DD and it was mentioned at my bf support group.

My NCT teacher was great btw. Didn't bat an eyelid when half the class mentioned they wanted to know about all the drugs.

gumbootsandjandals · 11/11/2016 16:20

I had my 28 week MW appt today. Because I'm going for a vbac we were supposed to go over my birth plan. Except, I'm still awaiting an appointment with both a consultant MW and the birth afterthoughts service. So there was no point doing it. Then after the appt I got a phone call inviting me to see the consultant obstetrician, an appt I was supposed to have back in July when I was struggling to eat or drink due to my smell/taste problem. That's not so much of a problem any more, so hopefully it will give me an opportunity to discuss birth options.

Evergreen17 · 11/11/2016 16:28

Oh dear Gumboots that is a bit of a hassle Sad I hope you can sort it out soon

LondonGirl83 · 11/11/2016 16:43

That's a bit rubbish gumboots! I hope it gets sorted for you.

twocatsandatoddler · 12/11/2016 00:07

Gumboots our NCT teacher was definitely bit hippy! "Muscles don't hurt if they're just doing the job they're supposed to do". While I understand what she was probably trying to say is that it's not pain like you've cut yourself, saying that labour shouldn't be painful because it's natural isn't massively realistic! I was in labour for almost 48 hours, and apart from the 12 hours I had the epidural in for, it did hurt quite a lot! Most of it was manageable, but still painful!

Actually my mum was an NCT teacher for about 10 years. She's not anti-drugs though!

ever was it you who made the little white fluffy hoodie you sent a link to the pattern for? If it was I have found someone who will make me one but I need to get the wool for them. What wool did you use?

Evergreen17 · 12/11/2016 08:58

Diva I will check on the wool in a bit and let you know Smile

Naschkatze · 12/11/2016 10:22

Morning all,

Can I ask where everyone is buying maternity clothes (without breaking the bank)?
So far, I've managed with a couple of pairs of maternity trousers, my normal tops and bump bands but it's getting to the point where I need some more smart casual tops/blouses for work as mine are too short over the bump!
I don't want to spend a fortune on clothes when we're trying to save but I've got at least another 10 weeks at work so I need things to wear.
Also what size do you buy? Normal size but in maternity/bigger?

Witch91 · 12/11/2016 11:55

Morning Naschkatze I've bought a few bits from eBay, Asda and Dorothy Perkins as like you not wanted to spend loads. Asos also pretty good if you get stuff in the sale.

I've been buying normal size in maternity. I bought a couple of non-maternity long line vests and casual tops from Primark in a bigger size to go under stuff for extra warmth!

hibernatingdormouse · 12/11/2016 12:26

New look maternity seems quite good and not too expensive, I don't really like the h&m things I bought as although I went a size up they already seem too tight. I also bought some dresses from jojo maman bebe which are wonderful but quite expensive for just a few months wear - one is also for nursing though so should get some more use out of that.

I think I'll need a new coat soon only just still fitting into my winter one now, any suggestions for maternity coats?

SBSparkles · 12/11/2016 13:14

We're doing NCT at end of the month - can't wait! I did an NCT first aid course today and met some nice people. They all spoke of friends they met on the courses.
So two weeks back at work and I'm utterly exhausted again. I don't have a big commute or work long hours. I'm on iron tablets so it's not that. Feel like I just can't hack it at all! My friend cancelled a visit this weekend and I was overjoyed as I didn't know how I was going to cope.

Naschkatze · 12/11/2016 14:03

Thanks Witch and Hibernatingdormouse. I was hoping to get cheap things in bigger sizes from primark but our local one is closed at the moment. Will give asos and new look a try.

We're also booked onto NCT in January. I wasn't that keen but DH thought it was a good idea - such a lot of money so I hope it's worth it!

Oneiroi · 12/11/2016 14:05

Mouse Mamalicious have some nice but inexpensive coats. I bought one of the padded, hooded ones and it's been thick enough to keep me warm waiting for trains on cold mornings this week. Agree it seems silly to spend a lot on a maternity coat, these are around £100 or even less, some styles are only £50/£60:

Oneiroi · 12/11/2016 14:06

They stretch nicely too as bump grows, they are elasticated around the waist.

Oneiroi · 12/11/2016 14:07

At least you can have a nice lazy weekend now Sparkles, I hope you feel more rested after some relaxation Smile

CatAnnoyance · 12/11/2016 14:55

Hi Ladies, can I gatecrash? I've been a lurker for a while :)

I am 36 and 27+3 pregnant with my first, and its starting to dawn on me that I have NO clue what I am doing Grin

The last time I held a baby was when my cousin was born. She's 12 now!

It's starting to feel more real with the growing bump, and I have noticed I am starting to get uncomfortable doing normal day-to-day things like bending down or getting up and sleeping and walking longer distances. God help me in another month if I am like this now!!

Oneiroi · 12/11/2016 15:20

Hi Cat!

Don't worry, I don't think any of us first-timers feel like we know what we're doing!

It is weird how the bump suddenly has a growth spurt and all of a sudden you feel really pregnant, isn't it? I am 26 weeks now and am finding I am out of breath from quite normal activities, dread to think what it'll be like tomorrow in the gym...

Evergreen17 · 12/11/2016 16:42

Ahhhhh! I absolutely hate this constant worry!!!
So today I woke up with a bit if period pains like discomfort rather. That feeling when you are about to get your period.
And now trying to have a nap but driving myself crazy because the baby hasnt moved for a bit. It kicked when I was driving around 2 hours ago but now I have been lying on my side for 40 minutes and nothing.
I cant deal with this worry and I dont want to have to call hospital every single time I freak out to be honest, for mAny reasons. DH planned a surprise for me months ago and we are leaving in 2 hours and I just want the baby to move already!!!!!!!!!!

ScottishSnowflake · 12/11/2016 16:57

Hi Ever, try a fizzy drink (or at least a cold one) and some chocolate if you have it to hand. Hopefully your little one has just curled up and gone to sleep.

I also have a gentle massage of my bump when I haven't felt mine for a while which sometimes wakes him up.

Fingers crossed all is ok x

ScottishSnowflake · 12/11/2016 16:59

If you're concerned though, you should definitely call your midwife for advice. They'd much rather check and find all is ok x

Oneiroi · 12/11/2016 17:11

Oooh Ever, how stressful. I had a pain that sounds just like that all last weekend and was so freaked out. I called the hospital and they reassured me it was just growing pains. Wish I had called earlier now so I would have worried less. Give them a quick call, they won't mind. Then have some paracetamol and put a hot water bottle on it for a while so that you can enjoy your surprise tonight!
