Got the Maclaren Techno XLR in the end We had previously settled on the Techno XT but saw this in a magazine and figured we needed the car seat anyways - makes sense to get one that fixes on the pushchair!

I just hope my boobs don't deflate too drastically after breastfeeding, although my sister's didn't. I wouldn't mind going down a cup size or 2 but in a pleasant non droopy type manner

bumperlicious · 23/02/2007 16:43

Hi all
Just got back from a few nights in the Lake Disctrict, but have been having severe Mumsnet withdrawal symptoms!
Was hoping to come back feeling refreshed and looking glowing but haven't slept properly all week! Keep waking up with cramp from my right hip down to my calf, and once I'm awake find it so difficult to get back to sleep coz bump wakes up and starts kicking, and DH has suddenly started snoring at night gggrrrrr!
I'm semi-buggy stalking, but when ever I even consider going to a shop to start looking I start breaking out in a cold sweat and run to somewhere that sells shoes instead!
Thanks for the advice re: osteopath kiwi, but we are just so strapped for cash at the moment I feel like I can't justify it. I'm going to be have some antenatal classes with my yoga teacher though, so hopefully he can help.
Been getting really freaked out the last week or so when I wake up my bump feels really weird, kinda hard and lopsided. I've only just realised that it's because I can actually feel the baby now, and it makes a difference when it's to one side or the other. It's all stilla bit weird!
Gosh, it's good to be back. Feel like I have a lifeline again!
Om a more serious note, I've decided that I'm going to chat to my dr next week about how down I've been feeling and if she offers me AD's I'm going to take them. I'm just mentally exhausted at the moment!

bumperlicious · 23/02/2007 16:44

By the way, hi to delor and sneeple!

notsolilKel · 23/02/2007 16:58

hello ladies!!! DH was monopolising the desk all day so I've only just got on. So very chuffed that you're in favour of my personal shopping idea!! Time to come up with catchy name for the service. ROFL at "match your carpet to your bouncer" idea in particular. My mum will vouch that, as young at 6yrs old, I'd only wear an outfit if it had matching top & bottom. (Let's see in the late 70's/early 80's it was probably a pair of terrycloth shorts and matching tube top. grimace). Oh dear.

Anywho. I've got a truly great bra idea for y'all. Even us with small letters (yes that's me too Marylou, a massive 36B now. Grrr). Check out Bravado. I wear them during pg and afterwards (they are bfeeding bras but so comfy). And they stretch, so changes in size don't require more trips to Mothercare etc... they even have plus and double plus models for those with bigger, um, norks. here you go . Truly a great piece of underwear. Considering.

(Just be sure to buy some non-white ones for bfeeding. Milk stains are nearly as permanent as pureed carrot. See all the fun stuff you first timers have to look forward to?)

Tip of day over. Time for rant of day.

My bloody bouncer arrived today. (For those who forgot, I debated for literally weeks which one to get. Was much in favour of cushy pink one, but caved to 1,000's of positive reviews of the BabyBjorn sitter. As I couldn't stand black for babies, I finally found it in "sand" colour). Well. Let me just say, in the full light of day, it is more of a puke-mustard-yellow colour than a nice neutral beige. GRRRR. To top it all off, when I revealed my purchase ceremonially to DH, he said, "oh, but the black is cool!" What's all this? Now I guess I'll be attempting to hunt down a black cover for the d@mn thing. If it only came in pink...

welcome back Bumper - good luck with the GP. I took ADs during my last pg and felt much better for it. Agree hard/moving bump thing is odd. Still freaks me out.

derlor · 23/02/2007 17:24

thanks for link to those bras - think double plus lady will be selling out with all the comments on this thread!!!! - Thought mine were currently big (38D) maybe not so??

Daisybump · 23/02/2007 17:43

sneeple I know they're pricey but Bravissimo go up to a J cup so you should get something to fit...I was told too small a bra makes for potential BF problems. I just bought two (one black one white) and basically have one on and one in the wash, although now have to co-ordinate what I'm wearing with what bra is clean to avoid those embarrasing black bra under white t-shirt moments...Although black bra under white shirt (ala Uma thurman in Pulp fiction) can be sexy.....not so on 6mo pg whale!!

hollyandalice · 23/02/2007 18:45

Sorry lilkel, I thought the sand sitter looked quite nice! Maybe it was the strong shop lights! On the plus side, imagine what milky white baby sick would do to a black cover- you'd be washing it every 5 mins! Also the sand one is the same colour as baby food, so when weaning you can use as a feeding chair! Result!!
I do agree with you about the colostrum bra staining business-it is awful!! It is bright orange to start with and doesn't come out when washed. Therefore black/nude coloured bras are def better than white. I remember from last time that the boob leakage hell starts pretty soon and breast pads are a necessary purchase! I would def recommend either Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh ones. Every other brand I have tried are really thick and show through you tops, it is not a good look! Also the washable ones are a pile of crap. They are too thick and move around in your bra and are not absorbent at all.

Bump, def a good idea to go to the dr. I'm sure things will work out for you. I know what you mean about not sleeping though, my dp is a hideous snorer and he drives me mad. Most nights I end up in the spare room or on dd's floor just to get a bit of kip! Kick him out and make him sleep on the sofa!!

annobal · 23/02/2007 20:09

Am currently dreaming of small boob days - I actually hit someone in the head with them while misjudging a squeeze through at Sainsburys

Good tips on the breast pads - will need to try those - I personally liked the Avent ones and Lloyds were suprisingly comfy. Mothercare were awful - like paper - not good for those sensitive first days/weeks.

On the "not a good idea to watch when you are pregnant' front - I watched the whole second series of bodies a few weeks ago. Have so far not freaked myself out too much but DH was unable to sit through any of it.

TALLULAHBELLE · 23/02/2007 20:33

Still a 34B.

notsolilKel · 24/02/2007 11:25

Holly, please don't feel bad, I honestly think the Sand is quite ok. Just takes some getting used to BTW you're totally right about the baby sick issue...

My fave breastpads (never thought I'd be writing sentances starting out like that, lol) are these fleece backed ones by Bipistuff . I didn't leak gallons so wasn't concerned about 'collecting' necessarily. But these were very soft, thin, and washable. Ditto hating the crinkly Avent disposables. Like wearing pieces of bin bag...

Incidentally the Babykind website mentioned above does the most brilliant little 'bandanna' bibs that can be worn all day to catch dribbles and act as full bibs in a pinch. They snap-on so the little one can't rip 'em off (as they can with velcro). People are always asking where we get ours.

While I'm on the subject of bibs, I'd recommend poppers because velcro (aplix) fastening ones are soooo annoying. Quite often the velcro curls in the wash then scratches the back of baby's neck. Then, when they're 9mo-year they learn to pull them off. My fave bibs are silly billyz . Made in NZ, of course...
Plain large ones have 2 snaps and suit from 2-3mo onwards (more details here )

Ok enough for now - we've a 1st birthday party later and I'm not even showered yet

OP posts:
Daisybump · 24/02/2007 11:38

Lilkel...you really are a mine of useful information...I really hated the velour bibs and didn't realise that popper versions are available. The bandana ones are lovely...think I'll be having a few of those in various colours...at least with dark colurs when you get to the weaning stage you don't end up with lots of muddy orange ones (yuk)!!

hollyandalice · 24/02/2007 11:53

I'VE GOT IT!!!! My bestest changing bag in the world ever!! Won it from ebay last night! here it is. It's sooo pretty, but quite expensive. Dp told me off!! Firstly coz it was expensive and second coz we are having a boy and it is a girly bag! Never mind!

I agree with you on the velcro bibs lilkel. If you forget to fasten them when you wash them the velcro sticks to everything in the washing machine and ruins clothes when you have to tear it off. I have laddered so many tights this way. I love these little bibs. They are brill for girls as they are pretty and don't ruin an outfit! We had them in pink and they are great for dribble and are really soft so don't rub baby's neck.

I really want to go for a walk with my P&T, but dp is being a meany and won't let me! Gonna have a fun day- Fulham are on the TV so it'll be a fun day of football (my dp is a Fulham fan)! They are going to lose and dp will be cranky for the rest of the day! Maybe I'll go shopping with my mum!

Daisybump · 24/02/2007 11:57

A bargain at £29.00 if that was your winning bid...those things cost £60 new. and so what if you're having a boy...you're a girlie and it's you that'll be carrying the bag. Get your freebie navy blue huggies one from Boots for DH to carry when he's on kiddy fatigue! Dead jealous , we've got a matching, functional one coming with the pram so DH woon't budge on the Cath issue!!

doggus · 24/02/2007 14:39

A special welcome back to Bumper, you know my views on ADs, so if your GP says go for it, do! I am trying to reduce my dosage gradually, gone from 100mg to 75mg (normal does 250mg, so quite low). Just be prepared for a couple of weeks of side effects before they kick in, unfortunately there seems to be no such thing as an instant happiness pill!

Kick counts - I have never heard of this, will look up on google. The bub seems to go absolutely nuts sometimes, generally at 4am, and then completely quiet for a few hours, then nuts again. Dh felt him/her kick last night, a proud moment!

Lastly, channelling Lilkel, I had my first big night out last night and wore this top . It was really comfy and got lots of compliments so worth splashing out on....

bumperlicious · 24/02/2007 16:43

Thanks Doggus, feel much better for all the support on here.
H&A, firstly doesn't matter that you are having a boy, you're the one who has to wear the bag! Secondly £29 is nothing, I went into a beautiful shop in a Cotswold village today, you know those posh shop that you only get in these little touristy villages, where they sell beautiful quirky designer stuff, and lovely white painted french style furniture? Well they had a changing bag in there for £195! Urrrggghh, it was just one of those shops where I want to buy everything in it, but at the same time feel like it's overpriced 'designer'-yummy-mummy-my-house-looks-like-it came-from-a-sunday-supplement type crap. Oh if only I were rich and my flat looked like those in the sunday suppletments...

bumperlicious · 24/02/2007 16:50

Also H&A, I hate to bring sporting rivalry into this thread, but I'm kinda glad that Fulham lost today as my DH is a Man U supporter (I said DH is, not me!) and he's actually gone to the match today, which is only the second man u match he has ever been to. Bless him, he's been so excited about it for ages. I would have felt very sorry for him if they had lost (and this is coming from a Chelsea fan - that's love!) But I hope your DP isn't too cranky - sounds like it was a close game! Only men can let a footie match ruin their day (this is coming from someone who cried in Waitrose because they didn't have the pasta sauce that I wanted!)

annobal · 24/02/2007 18:59

Hey Bumper - DH also a man u fan and has suddenly transformed his mood - I wonder why

Daisy - the change bag is lovely. I'm still contemplating the wrap cardigan from Isabella Oliver but trying to justify spending £90 on it - maybe after the win today...

Agree re the bibs - think I will invest in new ones when DS3 arrives as those we have are awful.

marylou23 · 25/02/2007 10:15

Okay, that's a first. Went to theatre last night and five mins before the end of the first act (nearly typed 'half' there - obviously the influence of your footie posts), the world started caving in and I realised I was going to faint. Nightmare - had to squeeze out of the aisle, then coudln't find exit so was on floor bending over trying not to black out... I think I must have just got overheated or something - have only fainted once before in my life and that was after having 18 vials of blood taken from me, so was pretty freaked out. Maybe I should buy some smelling salts and start wafting around like Scarlett in Gone with the Wind?!
Sympathise with all you footie-widows. My other half still plays the bloody game - lost 2-1 yesterday and didn't smile for at least an hour
Annobal, I'd go for it on the cardigan front. I have wrap dress and trousers from I. O. and I love them. And a wrap cardigan - maternity or not - is an investment piece. You'll wear it for ever. Or, you know, until your lovely baby pukes up on it

hollyandalice · 25/02/2007 14:49

FULHAM WAS ROBBED!! LOL!! Even I could see they played really well and should have got a result. Oh well, dp wasn't too upset as it means that Chelsea are well and truly second place (dp hates Chelsea!!). At least he doesn't play anymore. Last time he played a few months ago he broke his ribs!! That's it for footie now I promise!!

Have you got low bp marylou? That happens to me sometimes and it's because my bp's really low and if I get hot or stand up too quickly I nearly pass out. It's not fun, how hellish to have it happen to you in a theatre. Hope you didn't miss any of the play. What were you watching?

notsolilKel · 26/02/2007 09:03

Good morning ladies - who of us is still at work, btw? Just wondering...(I'm a sahm, for now, for life, possibly )

Sympathising with your footie woes. DH is Chelsea fan (however first and foremost Bayern Munich - he's German) and it was practically one of our wedding vows "wilt thou allow thine husband to throw temper tantrums when his football team makes stupid mistakes on the pitch?"). I don't mind it too much usually.

As for girly bags when expecting a boy, well, all I can say is, I squeezed all the pink in that I could with DS. Including changing bag. I am actually convinced that DS prefers his pink Tommee Tippee bowls and purple spoons to the blue. I mean, surely they tire of all that blue?? (All you equal rights supporters don't fret, when DD comes along she'll have a few blue bottles amongst the pink ones too ).

Still suffering with dreadful varicose veins down 'below.' So annoying. Must be what it's like for men when the Viagra just doesn't wear off.... Horrid, horrid. 13 weeks to go TG.

OP posts:
annobal · 26/02/2007 09:48

Morning all, hope you had great weekends. I managed a few lie-ins (wonder if this is due to the footy win ) so not feeling too bad this morning and may even keep my date with the gym...

Sorry you are suffering Lilkel, you can get a tissue salt that helps with varicose veins - Calcium Fluoride - I bought mine from Holland and Barrett and it is no 1, made by New Era. My homeopath has recommended different tissue salts for each month to deal with different stresses on your body - let me know if you are interested and I'll add them to my next message.

MaryLou, hope you are feeling better (and that you enjoyed the theatre).

annobal · 26/02/2007 09:57

Am also a sahm - always meant to go back to work when DS1 arrived and never really managed it. I'm not sure which is harder - work or staying at home - as have never really tried the "other life". We're moving to Australia at the end of the year and I may try going back to work then - but may be too busy making our house habitable .

hollyandalice · 26/02/2007 10:56

I am a sahm too. I hated my job and couldn't bear to leave dd in nursery to go back to a job I hate. I prob won't go back to work for a good few years when the small people are at school, then I'll find a job I actually like!!

Annobal- whereabouts in Oz are you moving? How exciting. Dp's dad lives in Brisbane and we were looking at going to live out there too, but I didn't like the supermarkets !!! Seriously though, the lifestyle is so great out there and everything is sooo cheap!! I don't think I could leave my family though, I'd miss my mummy too much!!

hollyandalice · 26/02/2007 11:26

Oh nooooooo!!! Cbeebies have changed their schedule and Teletubbies isn't on anymore !! The only time I get 5 mins peace is when the Teletubbies is on.

I'm sooo bored!! I'm staying at my parent's for a couple of days as dp is away. There's a really good toddler group down the road and I took dd this morning, but it was a staff training day and it was closed. Grrrr...I was feeling a bit hormonal and I cried!! Saddo!! Is it too early to have lunch? It might stave off the boredom for a while!
