OP posts:

Annobal, glad you're back. Another mac user too -whey hey

MLou you are just full of good ideas!! Can I appoint you my life coach?

I'm actually headed into the big bad City tonight. DH has leaving drinks (his) - starting new job soon. Haven't set foot in City bar for at least a year and surely wondering how I'm going to make it past 10pm! And thinking of it, don't recall ever seeing highly bumplicious woman in one of those establishments.

Chants at Lilkel - 'Do it, do it'.

Take Trinny & Susannah, you could have lots of glossy photos (we will be your models, don't worry) of good buggies and BAD buggies; maternity clothes (long cardis no good for short people); how to shop for and fit a car seat; Moses baskets v cots.....you need pictures I think, as I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a very short attention span while pg. Oh, and you could review the shops - eg there is a bitch at John Lewis, avoid her.....

marylou23 · 22/02/2007 17:05

Yay! And you'll need a website (Sputnik, you listening?), with links to all the products and all the companies will pay you huge commission for recommending them. And we can all get discounts.

hollyandalice · 22/02/2007 17:24

Oooo and I can be your bargain hunter, checking out the best prices for all the fabbest stuff!! Like Kelkoo, but better (coz we all get discount on top of fabbaroony prices!). Hooray!!

sputnik · 22/02/2007 17:28

Yeah, on the website we could put a thing where you select the colour of your living room carpet, and it automatically lists the baby rockers that go with it .

derlor · 22/02/2007 19:12

oh god you lot are funny!! i think you could write a book by stealing quotes from the threads on this site and collating them together - now that would be a best seller. no discounts though... anyway kind of like carrie's newspaper snippets in 'sex in the city' but maybe called 'no chance of sex for at least a year cause i'm pregnant!!??

TALLULAHBELLE · 22/02/2007 20:04

derlor Same issue with scans in Glasgow. Get one scan @ 12 weeks, basically so the hosp can ascertain EDD so can book you in then no one gives a shit. 200 quid for private anomaly scan @ Nuffield. I did consider it but figured would need that 200 pounds for baby stuff. After reading this thread, (full of shopaholics obviously), guess I made the right choice!

TALLULAHBELLE · 22/02/2007 20:44

Sorry, know that was ages ago but am trying to catch up.

Like the idea of having lilKel as personal shopper - I loathe shopping and haven't bought a thing yet.Know that will cause shock and horror amongst you lot! The buggy debate depresses me - there's far too much choice and I'm very bad at making descisions. Scared will make a very expensive mistake.

Taichimum · 22/02/2007 23:23

Hi guys - many thanks for your messages Daisybump and Notsolilkel. Yes have heartbeat at 7 + 1 weeks. I feel great and very lucky to have got back on the horse (or rather DH) and having such a successful ride so far.
Fingers crossed I will be having an early October babe. Will be thinking of you in June.

justbeme · 23/02/2007 09:55

Notsolilkel now youre confusing me! (not hard with preg brain I know!) - whats a MBU ?
FINALLY heard the heartbeat yesterday with midwife and the Doctor confirmed (mind you he didnt check!) - to go out and buy a new bra as maybe thats whats causing my side pain - So shall we start a new topic on Bras?!!
Is there such a thing as an expanding maternity bra that turns into a nursing bra?
(waiting with anticipation for Likels or any other shopaholic response..............)

hollyandalice · 23/02/2007 10:34

Justbeme- MBU is Mountain Buggy Urban (the urban has swivel wheels, the terrain doesn't!).

I wouldn't get a nursing bra yet as you are bound to expand somewhat between now and baby arriving. Maternity bras are, IMO, a waste of money. All they are are non-underwired bras, but cost about twice as much! If I was you I would just go and get a non-underwired bra from Asda or some such cheapo shop as you will only be wearing it for a few weeks, as long as you try it on and make sure it supports properly (some cheap bras are very dubiously fitting). I was told not to wear underwired bras as they can block milk ducts (although ATM I am wearing a super dooper Wonderbra!!)! I think it's at 34 weeks that you can get a nursing bra. I have never seen an expanding nursing bra, although that's not to say they don't exist.

marylou23 · 23/02/2007 11:12

My view on bras: maternity/non-underwired are just never going to be nice, so buy them cheap. DH thought he'd get me a little treat (weeks/months ago when my regular moaning was still new and he was still sympathetic) and looked on the Agent Provocateur website for a sexy maternity bra. People, even AP can't produce something attractive; adding leopard skin to big straps does not make them attractive!! . So we binned that idea; I've been wearing super cheap ones all the way and whilst they wouldn't win any style (or comfort, for that matter) awards, they'll do and I'll enjoy throwing them away in a few months time.
Have heard that the Elle McPherson nursing bra is worth investing in, though... (they sell it on fig leaves). Am going to wait and see if I grow any more, but to be honest, during this pregnancy I've developed from a 34b to a 34c, and not even a 'big' 34c, so I'm not overly hopeful of getting Jordan-size knockers any time soon...

annobal · 23/02/2007 12:43

Now here's a topic I can really get my teeth into - not literally of course as that would be horrible

Agree wholeheartedly that it is not worth spending a lot of money on maternity bras as your shape does change a lot. It is also worth getting fitted properly once you have had the baby for a maternity bra as your size can change again - when my milk came in I went from a 34dd to a 32e (I'm normally a 32a!!).

John Lewis do a great one for only £7 and M&S do a double pack for about £20.

Daisybump · 23/02/2007 13:29

Don't get me started on bras...grrrr. I'm a 38E/F at the mo and still growing. Mothercares bras are horrible...no support at all, the adjuster on the strap digs in at the shoulder and at E/F cup you only get the choice of utilitarian black or white...none of the colured/lacy ones and Elle McPherson ones don't go past a D-cup...same with a lot of Jojomamanbebe ones, which is ridiculous considering the national (not pregnant) average is around a C/D cup, they don't give you a lot of room for expansion. Oh I could rant on and on about this one ladies, but will say that support is everything when pg to stop future sagging, especially when you have large ones (I'm usually 34E/F....but was 34B/C before DS). Anyway, cheap and cheerful doesn't exist at this size, I've tried them and they're pants, so I'm stuck paying £28 a pop (or should that be £14 a pap ) for Royce non-wired industrial grade from Bravissimo, and again only available in black or white, but at least there's a bit of lace to be found. I know there are nice ones out there.....figleaf bras are gorgeous, but I'm not spending almost £40 on something that I can't carry my purse and lippy or my LO around in!
Now there's a thought....recycle your old maternity bras as babyslings....

Daisybump · 23/02/2007 13:30

PS to Annobal...I can almost get my teeth into mine....support is all, believe me!!

Daisybump · 23/02/2007 13:32

Sorry....tmi

mytwocents · 23/02/2007 14:24

I'm with you daisy, so hard to get good support/comfort/fit for E or F without spending lots, I would'nt mind but I've got a drawer full of D cup bras already and determined to fit them again one day........
I've always loved my boobs but their so cumbersome and sore now, I even wore my swim suit to get out the bath the other day!! TMI?? Sorry.

You shopping ladies make me laugh! I'll be a tester for the book........So great to have such knowledgable advice on hand!

sneeple · 23/02/2007 14:43

argh bras are also something that stress me out! I was a 36G before I was pregnant, so I have really little choice. My mum thinks it is ridiculous that we buy two types of bras these days and just says I should get a maternity bra instead of a support bra, but I have held off and currently have 3 crappy mo'care support ones in 40G that leave seam marks on me sigh The woman who measured me was so crap INSISTING that I could not have a bigger cup size than a G as that is the highest they go and therefore it is impossible. Grrr.

I loathe paying the full Bravissimo price for anything (I always get lovely Fayreform, Young Attitude etc in department store sales at the end as there are always 36Gs left discounted heavily ;)) but I should probably bite the bullet on this one. Or just wait and get maternity bras nearer the time?

sneeple · 23/02/2007 15:08

cardi update, cos I know you are all v interested ;) As if by magic there's a new monsoon in Victoria station so I didn't even need to drag my fat arse to Croydon or town to try sizes. Exciting ;) Have my eye on a few on ebay now

Also ordered the buggy yesterday which is the first big purchase for Bubs. It was from the prams plus website which was even cheaper than kiddicare so pretty impressive

Thanks for all your help people

One more thing, are you all doing kick counts? I haven't really thought about it as Bubs has always been very active but yesterday was QUIET in a kind of worrying fashion... kicking today though (and about 3am oh yes ;))

jo

mytwocents · 23/02/2007 15:14

Calling all well endowed ladies!!
T-K Maxx!!!!!!!
Lovely sister has just told me she's bought me a couple of cacharel bras in F cup for eight quid each!!!

marylou23 · 23/02/2007 15:21

yeah, yeah, rub it in you big breasted women. Me and my B/C cups will just hunch in the corner in protest...
Sneeple, haven't done kick counts but I do find that sometimes he has a very active day and the next one he's a little quieter. I think so long as you recognise patterns of activity there's no 'right' or 'wrong' number of kicks. Frankly, I'd lose count as I seem to get about 30 in the space of ten minutes sometimes; this morning, though, about two hours went by and I'd felt nothing so obviously started panicking. Two minutes later he did a somersault

sneeple · 23/02/2007 15:28

thanks for the tip mytwocents, I haven't looked there for bras for ages relying on dept store sales I may persuade DP to drive me to the big TKM on Purley Way tomorrow

Marylou I would prefer to have more normal sized boobs, believe me, especially at the moment Thanks for advice about kick counts, I just have that awful er episode in my head where Carter's baby dies after Thandi Newton ignored her kick counts

marylou23 · 23/02/2007 15:33

That's why I don't watch ER. Or Casualty. Or anything where scary things happen to people. Actually, that's not quite true - I watch House, but those diseases are generally so random that they don't give me nightmares

sneeple · 23/02/2007 15:40

I can't deal with Casualty but love er weirdly enough. And have never watched House (or 24 or the Sopranos) but will catch up on all these one day ;)

Apparently NICE don't recommend formal kickcounting as it makes no difference, as you do it anyway without thinking, so I will stop worrying about it. Bubs is doing the normal post lunch workout at the moment so yesterday must just have been a lazy day or something

hollyandalice · 23/02/2007 15:59

Which buggy did you get sneeple? Hope we haven't influenced you into making extravagant purchases!!

My ebay purchases arrived this morning! Super quick and super lovely. Ebay is great!!

I wish I had my old small pert boobs back! Big ones are so much effort. I used to go out with all sorts of crazy strapless tops on and no bra. If I did that now I'd scare people! They are also super uncomfortable and make me really hot! Why anyone would have a breast enlargement is beyond me. Small boobs are ace! As they say- more than a handful is a waste!!
