Doggus, I thought you had settled on a Stokke too. I would go for it like a shot if I was a first timer and I had the £££. You could look out for a bargain like Kiwinat says.

derlor · 22/02/2007 11:53

morning (just) ladies - been up A LOT of the night with 2 yr old DD who had earache - DH and DS had a great sleep though!!! Bless anyway typical 2 yr old now jumping about as normal and i'm totally knackered - how do they do that???
Anyway Daisybump, think i must be feeling revengful due to lack of sleep but if i were you i would be helpful and start painting the nursery and 'accidently' kick over the pot of paint (due to clumsy hormone!!) and hey presto new carpet - of your desired colour!!!! Is that terrible or just a simple solution to your problem????

mytwocents · 22/02/2007 11:58

Ahh the great buggy debate.......
We're getting a mountain buggy as have friends whom we go to festivals with who have one and has lasted them really well. Need one thats good for camping and off-roading in Richmond park too . Any one any mountain buggy exp?

Welcome to the new ladies!!
Thanks for all the fab shopping advice all, can't buy any more 'till we know if we're moving or not, also just found out I'll be getting no maternity pay at all so will be v skint

What are we all up to toilet roll wise?
I'm off to measure........

sputnik · 22/02/2007 12:04

Mytwocents, our Jane 3 wheeler will go anywhere. Don't know if that qualifies as a mountain buggy.

Festivals eh , you are a true Brightonian then.

mytwocents · 22/02/2007 12:04

accidental paint spilling.....hehehehe (evil chuckle)
OK 8 and a half sheets..and counting......

mytwocents · 22/02/2007 12:09

Yes sputnik do love my hippy town ! No dreads though, not a look I could pull off.
Buggy; It's a brand Mountain Buggy , dp is convinced by it, buggy buying bit like car buying it seems- only cheaper! He thinks it will last on the beach, parks etc. They seem very expensive to me but not as pricey as the bugaboo which sil has just got making me feel bit better.........

sputnik · 22/02/2007 13:02

Brighton was the last place I lived in the UK, many, many years ago. I miss it.

Daisybump · 22/02/2007 13:27

Derlor...LOL at the paint accident, but as we are going to be scraping the bottom of the cash barrel to allow me as much time off as possible, I couldn't in all honesty justify that sort of trickery.....besides, in our old house, I actually did spill a can of blackboard paint (ouch) on a newish carpet, so not sure DH would fall for that one...he'd know I did it on purpose!!

Thanks for advice re achy pubic bone. I'm seeing my physio tomorrow anyway as I have a very long standing shoulder injury (I call it my war wound as I was trampled in the front row at a Duran Duran concert when I was fourteen....now 24 years ago (ouch again)) so I'll ask her to check it out.

It's been a busy old morning hasn't it...no-one seems to be around in my lunch hour, but not to worry...only five weeks to work before starting maternity leave 9 not that I've started the countdown or anything!!

sputnik · 22/02/2007 13:35

Sorry, but had to laugh at viciousness of teenage Duran Duran fans

hollyandalice · 22/02/2007 13:36

Hi all! I'm going to stick with my P&T in the great buggy debate, it's lovely! Alas my dp has kidnapped it and gone to work with it in the boot of his car because he says I'm not allowed to use it yet . He's a very mean man!! He has no idea about pushchairs, he came home yesterday and I was playing with it and he said "what's so different about that one, it looks the same as the other pushchair!". Honestly!!

As for the car seat thing I always tried to not keep dd in there for too long and I only ever used my car seat in the pushchair when on short shopping trips. They look so uncomfortable scrunched up in car seats.

Thanks for the snaps on the cardi everyone. I'm going to go and pay for it now! I won a bundle of maternity tops from the same person too, so I'm nearly set for fat bird clothes now!!

doggus · 22/02/2007 13:38

Hi sputnik - I do want a Stokke, but just wanted a couple of alternatives: I am one of those annoying shoppers that spends five hours shopping and then returns to get the first thing they saw! Kiwinat - great idea, will look on ebay, I love the sound of ex-display.

Lilkel - you are truly a shopping guru, seriously you should get a TV show. I will check out those buggies, I really can't face 10kg. In John Lewis I tried 8kg and that was bad enough.

Daisybump - just sprayed tea on PC screen at LOTR cardies!

I am joining the sacro-iliac sufferers...I already have one slipped disc and this morning I could barely move. Been to physio and it is the notorious sacro-iliac, aka 'pain in the arse'.

notsolilKel · 22/02/2007 13:42

Aw Marylou thanks for brightening up my very dull & rainy afternoon funny was talking to DH last night about what career I could/should manage when kid-making is over. My previous City job is right out, was horrid. So I said, well, I'm having my 2nd baby in 2 yrs and I can tell you, lots needs sorting out!! So maybe a helpline wouldn't be all that bad an idea

Anyway I'm not allowed to shop anymore for awhile. Binging lately and bank acct looking grim.

I'm happy to shop on everyone else's behalf though!!

Doggus - Stokke good idea, fab reviews, and though very pricey has what you want (like the loola) and only weighs half a kilo more than the loola. Hmm.

3-wheelers: I adored my Jane Slalom 3 wheeler. So smooth over any rough terrain, and yes, we tested it many times in Richmond too Best thing about it (apart from easy steering & cushy suspension, sturdiness, etc) is it weighs only 8kg which is super light. Jane info here . The Mountain buggy is double that at 16kg. YIKES. I know I go on and on about weight, but trust me, it does matter in RL!

Must go get ready for the sitter. Like planning a military op, it really is...

I know what I'll be doing with all my baby stuff after this one, it's going straight on ebay....and all my maternity clothes....and all the stuff the LO will have grown out of (maybe not...SIL expecting twins in September) I bought lots of work things which due to my decision to finish sooner rather than later are hardly even worn in...might even scrape together enough on those to get a new carpet !!
In fact, DH and I are trying to declutter our lives, so I can steadily empty the contents of the loft and garage in the 10 weeks I'll have off work before my LO arrives. I'll be whipping the pants off DH before long...and not in a nice way

sputnik · 22/02/2007 14:16

Lilkel, you're right, vicarious shopping for other people is the way to go! I don't have much to shop for either, but there are a few things I regretted not getting for DD.

Like you say, with 2 very little ones you are going to have a lot on your plate workwise, but being a baby-stuff personal shopper sounds like a fab idea to me. Should you ever need a website check me out as that is what I do for a living. Funnily enough I just did one for a personal shopper, so you could say I'm an expert! (Got her 1st page ranking in Google too [modest])

16kg of buggy (do you have a spread sheet with this info or what Lilkel?)!!! Bloody hell. If I was you Mytwocents I'd test drive it against the Jane. Point out to your DP that it has a disc brake on the front wheel, IME all the males that saw ours were very impressed by this fact (funny creatures). Anyway, the Jane would def cope with Brighton beach, and you'd be at lower risk of slipped disk getting it down steps.

hollyandalice · 22/02/2007 14:22

I know what you mean about careers after making babies! I was supposed to start teaching training in Sept, but my lea wouldn't fund me as I had gone to uni before and dropped out, so I got pg instead!! I now have until the new lo goes to nursery to decide what to do with my life. I know it's 3 years away, but it's such a big decision to make. I would love to start a second hand baby shop (selling second hand baby gear, not second hand babies!), but that would obv cost a lot to set up. Maybe I'll just enjoy being a sahm for a while.

Daisy I'm gonna put all dd's stuff on ebay once the new baby is born. I'm keeping it for now just in case they got it wrong and I'm having a girl! I have so much crap in my house it looks like a jumble sale!

notsolilKel · 22/02/2007 14:31

oh no here you go again filling my head with ideas...I'd so love to be a personal shopper. Really. . ROFL at spreadsheet of buggy weights. It's actually (sadly) just the sort of thing I'd find amusing to do one afternoon. Oh someone please punch me now...

funny I'm not selling any of DS' stuff - that's how I know I must be thinking of going for a 3rd or even (gulp!) a 4th!! what am I thinking!!!!!

annobal · 22/02/2007 14:31

Hi all, have ben offline for a while, but now my new mac has come along, i am rearing to go.

Re the great buggy debate, can highly recommend mountain buggies - as long as you don't have to lift them, they'll go anywhere and are rerally hardy! Also had a double for a while but that is now in the garage gathering dust, waiting to be ebayed. Still happy with my phil and ted's double tho...

Am looking for a cardi i can wear instead of the winter coat - any suggestions?

Am being lazy today and driving to nursery. However have booked for gym next week - don't think I could hold my head up in the excercise thread tho

Had scan last week - cardiac and anomaly (sp?) - and it is another boy - that's 3 BOYS!! Thought I'd be disappointed but not at all - am over the moon. Had to celebrate with a Petit Bateau purchase...

mytwocents · 22/02/2007 14:34

Annobal, back track hun for lots of cardi info.............on this thread

annobal · 22/02/2007 14:40

Ah - does that mean I have to spend the next few days catching up Thanks!

mytwocents · 22/02/2007 14:43

Thanks for mountain buggy feedback - NO, is not 16kg is only 9.......double is 16 - I think, phew had a bit of a panic there!
We're going to john lewis for the nursery/baby tour thingy they do , has been highly recommended to us as you can test drive all the buggies and are n't made to feel obliged to buy there and then, anyone else been? will ask dp about 'disc brake ' . He has taken on board all the buggy/pram/car seat research which is great as I really havent got the shopping bug yet - amazing considering this thread I know!!

Peace x

hollyandalice · 22/02/2007 14:44

I think being a personal shopper might not be as fun as it seems. I used to think that mystery shopping would be fun- getting paid to shop! Trust me it's not! I do loads of assignments for various companies and I visit clothes shops, banks, pubs and loads of different places. It's really boring and not at all fun and writing the reports is tedium itself! The extra cash does come in useful though!

hollyandalice · 22/02/2007 14:50

mytwocents I went to John Lewis the other day and it really put me off. I waited around for ages to be served, then the woman that served me was a complete biatch! I think she was the section manager and was peeved that she was having to actually serve customers! She showed me a couple of buggies really quickly and seemed bored and disinterested. I was really disappointed as I love John Lewis and usually get really good service. And they don't sell the P&T-rude!! Hope you have a better time than I did!

notsolilKel · 22/02/2007 15:22

Oops got a bit ahead of myself before. I was quoting weight of double mtn buggy urban - the single weighs a much better 9kg. Looking at it though, it's so similar to the P&T which is only 7.3kg. However if you favour travel systems and don't expect another baby, the MBU frame beats P&T b/c it can take a car seat whereas P&T has a wonky strap system for taking car seats...

Guess my verdict is, if you have thoughts of another baby, get P&T 3 wheeler. If not, Jane Slalom with MBU close 3rd.

sputnik · 22/02/2007 15:38

Annobal, nice to see you back. Believe me, booking for the gym is more exercise than has been going on lately on the exercise thread

marylou23 · 22/02/2007 15:43

Lilkel, how about writing a baby book that focuses on the shopping side of things? You could have detailed reviews re. the things that really matter (does the buggy match with your handbag, that sort of thing) and sections dedicated to online shopping for those who can't be arsed to leave the house... Who knows, you could even have it co-branded with Mumsnet and we could all chip in our loony views... Top Tip sections on 'What you really need from a changing bag' and 'What to buy when this is your first (of many)'. I'd buy it
Have fun tonight. Doing anything nice?
