Namechange, we already know Blush - we had a private scan at 16 weeks and found out she's a she! We haven't told anyone else though!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/10/2016 21:42

Ooh, how exciting, super?

Can I ask - how much did private scanning cost you? A friend of ours who's due in January had one because her NHS scan was inconclusive and she wanted to know - and that was just 40 quid. So I am really hoping! But then I've heard other figures much higher, and I'm a bit confused.

I am catching up with the thread because DP is asleep, having just looked in the mirror and said in horror 'are my hips wider?!'

Is anyone else seeing that? I know bones shift a bit, and she is carrying all of it at the front so has quite a prominent bump, but she is feeling self-conscious about it.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/10/2016 21:43

Sorry - that should have been an exclamation mark, not a question mark, super! It is undoubtedly exciting you know it's a girl. Smile

Carolann8584 · 13/10/2016 21:51

GVW12 I was living south Manchester but now I'm East so I'll be in Tameside hospital

Haven't told our 2 purely because their mum has just had a baby girl so they are still adjusting to that plus would be nice to say if they were having another little sis or Bro Smile

NameChange30 · 13/10/2016 22:13

Super Yay for a girl! Smile

LRD I can't say I've noticed my hips growing, but I feel fatter all over (especially bump and boobs, obviously) so they could have grown! I suppose it would make sense - more room for the baby to come out right?! I have heard that everything relaxes and opens. Anyway hope your DP is feeling ok about her body and not too freaked out. I was very freaked out at first but I'm sort of getting used to it now - or resigned to it at least!

cyclinggirl22 · 13/10/2016 22:46

cloeycat I have the same problem and swear by gaviscon double action chewable tablets they work straight away for me

SuperDuperJezebel · 14/10/2016 06:16

I'm delighted she's a girl, either would have been perfectly nice, I love boys too - spent most of my 15y nanny career looking after mostly boys - so I'm excited for a change!

LRD there is a private gender scan you can have for £39 with ultrasound direct/babybond, up to 30 weeks. We went with them, paid slightly more for the 4D, but they were great, absolutely no problems. It's a nationwide thing so obviously I can't vouch for all the clinics but the Croydon one was great and the company as a whole gets good reviews on Mumsnet.

Also not sure about hips expanding but I know your rib cage does so it's definitely possible.

Carolann8584 · 14/10/2016 09:48

Babies r us 50% sale [sale] why can't they wait until after my scan, we said we weren't buying anything big until then

x

Carolann8584 · 14/10/2016 09:49

Don't know why I put sale in [ ] lol, not really awake yet.

Sad

Need my pillow today

BeccaSays · 14/10/2016 10:11

Good luck to those with their scans today xx

Carolann8584 · 14/10/2016 10:36

Very stupid question from first time mum, how important is the lay down pram in a travel system? the one I have seen is a car set, lay down pram and stroller combo but its out of stock. So found different one which is the same minus the lay own pram bit. I know beany can't use the stroller until later but the car seat sits in the stroller so would we be able to use that for short journey's until a bit older?

I could ask my SIls as they have 7 children between them but neither of them drive so have different pram needs then I do.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 10:48

Thank you Becca Smile

My scan went well, baby is healthy and definitely a boy!

Hope your scans go well too Cloey and Super x

alphabook · 14/10/2016 11:15

Congrats to those who have had their scans. I had mine yesterday, everything looked good and they confirmed we're having a boy!

I find all the measurements fascinating. So far our baby has a big head, big tummy and short legs so it's not looking good for DH's hopes of him playing for Spurs! Grin

Carolann young babies shouldn't be in a car seat for more than 2 hours, there's a risk of them being suffocated due to airway compression from not lying flat. So it should be ok for short journeys but I wouldn't rely on it personally.

alphabook · 14/10/2016 11:18

Just to add that there are pushchairs where the stroller lays flat without the need for an additional carrycot. There are so many different types of pushchairs out there I wouldn't waste your money on something that doesn't fully meet your needs.

Carolann8584 · 14/10/2016 11:35

Alpha Yes the stroller lays flat as well. I heard the guidelines on no more than 2 hours in the car seat as there's a risk. I will keep looking Smile

Cloeycat · 14/10/2016 11:37

While we are on the topic of lieflats. We spend a lot of time in the car- between driving to Ireland and up to the midlands to see family. Probably at least 1/2 times a month we would have a car journey longer then 2-3 hours. Should we consider getting a lieflat car seat instead of a traditional kind? Are they rated similarly on safety?

BeccaSays · 14/10/2016 11:56

Congrats to Alphabook and Name!

Chloey* we went to look at pushchairs and one had a carrycot which could be strapped on to the back seat instead of a car seat. It was so heavy and cumbersome though.

Carolann8584 · 14/10/2016 12:03

Love online shopping over going to the shop but I will have to get over that for Pram/car seat/stroller shopping, Online is great for reviews and comparing but doesn't help with seeing how big or heavy they are. Sad

Thanks hugh we stopped off at mothercare tonight just to start looking, the weight is important for me, I have a slipped disc and my mum will be helping with childcare once I go back to work so want something light weight

X

BeccaSays · 15/10/2016 10:23

Does anyone know of someone with an iCandy all terrain? That's what we were thinking of getting. Need something lightweight, folds smallish and that we can take on off road walks. It's so expensive though. Wondering if there's an alternative that ticks the same boxes!

CatalinaFuckingWineMixer · 15/10/2016 11:09

becca I'm looking for something along the same lines as you and have been considering the Jané Trider. I haven't been able to find anywhere local to me that stocks it though so other than seeing 2 people with it when out I haven't actually had a proper look myself. But you can buy it on the Samuel Johnston website at the moment for £649 including the pushchair, transporter 2 lie flat carrycot that can be used in the car up to 6months and an actual car seat for up to 18 months. So it's cheaper than the icandy which I saw at the baby & toddler show in Manchester last weekend for £950. But it's such a big thing to buy without being able to actually see/feel/lift 😫

Dustycorners · 15/10/2016 13:03

Slow on the uptake, but congratulations to everyone who had lovely scans this week! The next few months are going to fly by and there will be squishy newborns before you know it x
