Gumboots yes you can only use it for soups/ stews/ when boiling pasta/ veggies/ potatoes and so on
You need to add a bit of lemon or anything with vit C to activate the iron.
I use it all the time, it was a present but maybe not suitable for everyone, depends what you cook.

inmyeyes · 09/10/2016 22:11

Evergreen - have the same issue with a coat as well but some good ideas on here. Didn't need one last time as DS was a July baby. I'm finding I need to buy a lot more clothes than I bargained for as I rarely wore anything warmer than a t-shirt for that last two months last time but now need to get some warmer clothes. Want to get a fleece/hoodie as well as we spend a lot of time in playgrounds and parks at the weekends so need to be warm and haven't seen much in that line other than online.

As for names, we're having the problem with girls names, as we had some pre agreed boys names. The girls name we came up with when pregnant with DS no longer works as we've met too many people with that name since so we need a new one and no name seems quite right.

MarjorySunshineDust · 10/10/2016 07:52

top re Ewan I still put it on when putting dd to bed, it plays for 20mins and on good days she is asleep in that time!

Another great white noise thing is an app called Soundsleeper. I paid for the upgrade so it would play constantly during long night feeds on my phone and I really think it helped dd fall asleep. She's particularly partial to Mountain River Smile

I am intrigued by this iron fish and off to google!

We haven't chosen a name yet, it's really tricky this time.

Been a stressful few days as my husband is back in hospital, this time with a kidney infection Sad Not sure if I mentioned it on this thread but he had a cycling accident and broke his jaw a month ago so it's been one thing after another.

Shellbell0403 · 10/10/2016 08:10

Morning ladies... so the sleepless nights last night was plagued by panic and can we afford it... also can we afford to get all the babt6 stuff needed...

Anyone any ideas what I can take to stop this cold in its tracks? Losing my voice today

Bisquick · 10/10/2016 09:18

ShellBell try a paste of manuka honey + turmeric in warm (not boiling because boiling kills all the good stuff in honey) water. Or a teaspoon of Manuka honey just swallow it straight. Get the highest pollen strength you can find - 10-15+. I find it works quite well!

twocatsandatoddler · 10/10/2016 09:20

Shell you'd be amazed at how little you can actually make do with - you definitely don't need everything on the 'essentials' list that shops try to convince you that you need. And you definitely don't need to get it all before the baby arrives - I bought most things before but also had a lot of stuff delivered after he arrived when we had a better idea of what we needed (extra Moses basket / pram sheets for example). John Lewis click and collect at my local Waitrose meant I could send DH to get it the next day!

Also, I bought almost everything new, but actually some stuff was hardly used, and if I were doing it again for the first time I'd be getting a lot more stuff second hand from charity shops and selling groups etc, or borrowing from friends - I have lent out a few things between babies that would otherwise have spend time languishing in the attic.

SBSparkles · 10/10/2016 09:49

Morning guys, here I am at the docs again! Went to work but came straight home as I feel awful Sad having more bloods done. Just so tired and feel so run down! Might take two days in bed. Apparently I'm only a bit anaemic. This is getting boring now!

kikisdelivery · 10/10/2016 13:50

Sparkles Sad hope you got on ok? It sounds like it's been awful for you, feeling so run down and generally urgh.

I'm back at work today and it's so cold! Both in the office, and in general! I've also got a sore abdomen today, which is annoying, but as I'm off for whooping cough jab later I'll mention it. I suspect it's just muscles stretching from bubs/all the holiday walking and then doing a load of cleaning yesterday. Plus I cycled to work today after a week off the bike!

Still being kicked quite low, with kicks alternating between proper movement and then weird vibration-type feelings. I looked on What to Expect and someone was saying the vibrations might be the bub moving position. I think he's blowing baby raspberries in there!

SBSparkles · 10/10/2016 14:46

Kiki thanks! I take it this isn't normal to feel this bad? Wow well done you cycling to work - but be careful! Balance is off with a bump! During this time your little one will be having a growth spurt so that might explain the stretching! I'm finding it hard now to put my socks on! Lol! Have to twist my legs at an angle!

Evergreen17 · 10/10/2016 17:51

Marjory sorry to hear about DH Sad
Shell I have that panic too. I know we can afford to buy the stuff we need because we are pretty minimalist and shopping second hand and I have been saving a bit. But I am so worried about not having my salary any more!!! Stressful
Sparkles I hope you feel better soon Flowers
Kiki I have been cycling too but I think I wont any more. I work in London and started to worry about falling over Sad
But I walk a lot at work, 10 km yesterday!
Ladies I have a question about weight gain. I have read lots of advice and I think I have put too much on too quickly. I am only meant to gain 10-12 kilos and I have already gained a bit over 6 Sad
Only 22 weeks

LondonGirl83 · 10/10/2016 18:15

Marjory sorry your DH is in hospital, that must be so stressful.

Ever while NICE don't recommend eating more than usual until after 24 weeks, they also say:

"There are no formal evidence-based guidelines from the UK Government or professional bodies on what constitutes appropriate weight gain during pregnancy"

I know women who gained 3 stone and more in pregnancy as that's what their body needed and they lost it all within 4-6 months without any effort

So much of the weight gain at this stage is water, increased blood volume and breast tissue which will be different for everyone. If you think you are eating sensibly I wouldn't stress out.

Evergreen17 · 10/10/2016 18:22

Thanks London I am definitely getting lots of good nutrients and cooking my meals but truth to be told Blush during the first trimester I just wanted really very calorific stuff and ate lots Sad
I am always dieting / and it is hard to control my weight but I cant diet now so I am cutting down on sweets and crisps rather that counting calories on main meals
Not so worried about losing the weight as I will go to weight watchers as before but worried about baby getting fat Sad

LondonGirl83 · 10/10/2016 18:49

Don't worry- I know there is a link between big babies and excessive weight gain but regardless of what you gained before twenty weeks your baby won't start putting on weight until around now so the first bit doesn't really count for their weight gain. At your 20 week scan did they say your baby was average circumference? It should be in your notes.

I've not really gained weight- I'm up 1 -1.5 kilos since my morning sickness stopped 8 weeks ago but still 5 kilos below pre pregnancy weight. My baby still measured 'very chubby' at the 20 week scan based on her belly circumference! Her dad was 11lbs so I just think she will be big no matter what.

LondonGirl83 · 10/10/2016 19:11

I should say she is still within normal range just the bigger at fe of normal

Shellbell0403 · 10/10/2016 19:12

ever I'm trying to do the whole watch what I'm eating but sometimes if I have a thing in my head that I want then I NEED to have it! Haha...

marjory hope ur DH gets better and out of hospital soon!

kiki it's nearly hat scarf and gloves time!! Woohoo!!

Sparkles sorry to hear ur still feeling really bleuch! How did u get on at the docs today?

Well I have a wee dilemma... today I completely lost my voice! I work in a call centre and they tried to put me on the phones. I told them I couldn't and that I would just go home so they gave me manual work!! They told my boss today that there was no work for me tomorrow and would need to go on the phone, practically insinuating that I would need to like it or lump it or go off!! They are already stressing me out with the productivity target being so low which doesn't help my pee problems and have told me 'pregnancy is not an illness' Not once have I said it is!!! I'm feeling pretty crappy, no voice bunged up, low energy and icky and they are just making me feel worse!!!

LondonGirl83 · 10/10/2016 19:12

*side not 'at fe'

kikisdelivery · 10/10/2016 19:25

Shell that sounds awful, how terrible of your employer to speak to/treat you that way. Can you speak to your HR if it continues?

I'm having a needy moment ladies, I'm shamelessly after reassurance. Does anyone else still have aches/light pains near their pelvic/pubic area from their bump/baby? I am sure my guy is sitting really low and that's what's going on, but I have been feeling sore lower down - almost like there's a pressure there - and have made myself paranoid that it means something terrible is happening. I've had no reason to think it is - he's been bobbling round (though a bit quieter than usual again, so I guess he's in a weird position) and I haven't had any scary symptoms but I guess the feeling of down-below "fullness" is a bit odd. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Went for the whooping cough jab earlier - all fine so far in terms of me feeling ok, and I got the flu jab at the same time, so it's good they're both out of the way now. Going to get a relaxing bath I think, and chill out.

SBSparkles · 10/10/2016 19:40

Kiki I often get weird pains down there still. I even had sort of periody pains a few weeks ago and went to docs to test but all was fine. If you are worried go and see your doc or midwife - just to put your own mind at rest. X

SBSparkles · 10/10/2016 19:48

Shell they tested my thyroid, b vitamins, vaginal swab, all sorts to see what might be the matter! I'm taking tomorrow off too to rest x

ScottishSnowflake · 10/10/2016 20:12

Hi Kiki, yes to the weird feelings in the pelvic area (feeling really full) and I'm 23+1. I usually feel really full just before little one kicks. Sometimes strong kicks, sometimes gentle ones. If you're worried though, please chat to the midwife!

My turn to ask now, is wispa around at the moment or on hols? I think I'm ready to join the FB group Smile

Newmummy2017 · 10/10/2016 20:21

Shell have a look at this link about rules employers have to comply to:
www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights

"Health and safety for pregnant employees
When the employee tells her employer she’s pregnant, the employer should assess the risks to the woman and her baby.

Risks could be caused by:

heavy lifting or carrying
standing or sitting for long periods without adequate breaks
exposure to toxic substances
long working hours
Where there are risks, the employer should take reasonable steps to remove them, eg by offering the employee different work or changing their hours.

The employer should suspend the employee on full pay if they can’t remove any risks, eg by offering suitable alternative work.

For full details about the regulations see the Health and Safety Executive website.

Pregnant employees who think they’re at risk but their employer disagrees should talk to their health and safety or trade union representative. If your employer still refuses to do anything, talk to your doctor or contact the Health and Safety Executive.'

Do you have a union rep? Perhaps you could speak to citizens advice.

LondonGirl83 · 10/10/2016 20:32

Shell that sounds horrible and I agree it sounds like they might be breaching rules giving you manual labor if its inappropriate during pregnancy.

Kiki you might be having pelvic girdle pain. I went to the physio about my hips but didn't realise I was also having pelvic girdle pain at the front in my crotch that feels like pressure and pulling. Its the most common pain I have and is apparently very common. The good news is its not at all dangerous and there are tricks you can do to reduce it.

gumbootsandjandals · 10/10/2016 20:33

Scottish if you pm me your email address I'll try and add you to the fb group.

Thanks for the tip for the iron fish Ever

SBSparkles · 10/10/2016 20:39

Shell that's awful and I'm pretty sure illegal. 'Pregnancy is not an illness!!?' Errr it can feel like one if you get ill from being pregnant!! I'd report them if I were you! X

gumbootsandjandals · 10/10/2016 20:42

I am a bit horrified to admit that I've put on 9kg since week 12. At this point in my previous pgs I was only 6kg up. I did start 2kg down due to nausea though. I did go through a mega biscuit phase and couldn't face the gym, but biscuits are no longer required in such volume and I'm back gymming. Still fit my usual mat clothes thank goodness.
