Just had my first phone call from the home birth midwife team who now take over all my care. It all seems more real all of a sudden. And I'm looking round my building site of a new home panicking that they will say you aren't giving birth here!!

gumbootsandjandals · 05/10/2016 13:47

For anyone struggling to poo: usually a GP will prescribe fybogel first. This is a bulking agent. Next step is movicol/laxido. This is a softener. Then usually they may try lactulose (also a softener). The softeners are commonly prescribed to babies and children so you needn't worry about them causing your bowel any harm, or becoming dependent on them. Senna is not recommended as can cause cramping but I believe some GPs might prescribe in exceptional circumstances.

Fybogel personally does nothing for me, and I already have a high fibre diet so don't really want more bulk.

Lactulose is my go-to drug of choice. I take the max dose. I am currently self - prescribing but have actually booked a GP appt in a couple of weeks for a review.

I read the laxative section in the British National Formulary on Monday to see if there was anything else I can take but it would seem not.

I have haemorrhoids do really need to poo regularly.

kikisdelivery · 05/10/2016 14:06

Quick update as I'm not on the wifi! We drove to Granada just after I posted and I was booted all the way! I guess he was in a silly position and a cold yoghurt drink at breakfast got him going Grin

Shellbell0403 · 05/10/2016 14:32

Pleased to hear that kiki
So jealous of all these movements everyone is getting!

I have my follow up scan tomorrow for spinal measurements and so glad after yesterday's news that I have it although a little nervous x

Newmummy2017 · 05/10/2016 15:32

Glad to hear your now feeling movements Kiki. It's such an anxious time for us before the regular movements kick in at 24 weeks. I'm still struggling to decipher whether my fluttering feelings are digestion or baby. I can't wait to feel a proper kick (19 weeks 1 day).

Is anyone else finding eating out tricky. I am a bridesmaid at my best friends wedding later in the month and she sent the menu over to me to look at a few days ago. The hotel said it was fine for pregnant women but I feel really picky because I have said I'm not sure about the lamb because it will probably be served pink and there's a terrine for starters (is that the same as pâté?). Also I am worried about it being homemade ice cream. I feel like I am being such a pain being picky and hubs thinks I am being over anxious. I am just following NHS advice. 😤

CeeCeeEnnEss · 05/10/2016 15:39

I called the midwife and she told me to come in. She used the doppler and baby is fine; just clearly screwed up in a ball or something. I felt very neurotic!

Shellbell0403 · 05/10/2016 15:42

ceecee glad to hear all OK 😊

LondonGirl83 · 05/10/2016 16:37

newmummy don't feel bad! I feel like a weirdo asking Bruce places if their eggs are lion stamped but as silly as you might feel it's better that'll worrying if you don't or dos forbid the guilt if something happened.

gumboots lactulose I think is what my gp at Seldoc recommended but I couldn't remember the name until now - where can you buy it

I think my constipation and background an are both linked to me being uptight because I'm frustrated at work. I need to find my zen place 😄

twocatsandatoddler · 05/10/2016 16:41

newmummy I find restaurants are really accommodating if you tell them you're pregnant. I order most things on the menu, but for lamb for example, I'll just ask them to cook mine more than they usually would. It's never been an issue. I would ask your friend to let the caters know, I'm sure they're used to requests like that.

LondonGirl83 · 05/10/2016 17:13

Forgot to say I had my scan today and all is well. She is so cute! Also my placenta has already moved so I'm all clear on that front as well!

twocatsandatoddler · 05/10/2016 18:18

Great news on both counts, London!

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 05/10/2016 19:04

Good news london

So sorry to hear about all the poo problems, there are so many weird things going on! Like my nasal passages are always really dry, like when you're on a plane. I had a dream the other day that I was in a confined tunnel mad couldn't breath then woke up realising I just needed to blow my nose...

I'm feeling quite a bit of movement (we're all different and I'm a bit further along than some, 23+1 today) but I'm worried that I've been running to catch buses and trains today and poor baby feels like it's doing somersaults! Not sure when to stop running and walking fast. I only have one speed and it's called late!

Evergreen17 · 05/10/2016 20:08

Yay kikis! Good news Smile
Ah ceecee these bubbas dont stop giving us worry do they!
London great news Smile about scan. My placenta is on the low side but I am confident it will move up.
My face is soooo dry. On the plus side I dont have to wash my hair as often. But this might be my new conditioner.
I had an argument with DH and cried my eyes out. Wont go into details but I am very upset with him and trying to think about the bubba. We just got married a couple of months ago but I have a no shouting policy and it was broken today . Feeling awful and worrying about the future now.

Newmummy2017 · 05/10/2016 20:42

Glad to hear you're placenta has moved London (how do i tag people's names?).

Piano- I keep worrying when I drive over potholes on country roads but trying to reassure myself these babies must be made of strong stuff!

Sorry to hear about your argument Evergreen, hopefully you can take some time to look after yourself and do something good for your well-being. I've been finding some mindfulness meditations really helpful. I know I have found myself getting much more upset over things than I usually do and taking longer to calm down. Although I find it frustrating when DH blames hormones because he has used it as an excuse to escape or blame! I hope things feel much more clearer and manageable when you have had a little time out.

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 05/10/2016 21:15

I'm sorry to hear about your argument ever. Hopefully a sleep on it will clear the air and tomorrow is a new day. And that you can talk about it, we all have ups and downs but it's how we get over them that make us stronger (though I'm sure you know that!)

Is anyone watching BBC2 by the way?

Wonderlust123 · 05/10/2016 21:35

Piano! I know where you're coming from. Plus having so much on the brain seems to be resulting on being even more scatty than usual, so constantly running late then realising I've forgotten to do something, making me even later, and rushing upstairs at work to photocopy something etc etc!

Mysterycat23 · 06/10/2016 01:32

Of the two of us, DH is acting more hormonal at the moment, he plonked himself on the sofa without looking and sat on my knee last night which really hurt and I called him clumsy. He stormed off and slammed doors. Left him to calm down and he did come back and apologise. He is stressing about work and having to be the breadwinner (right now we earn equally). Also he is paranoid about touching me at all due to being afraid of hurting the bump! To be fair in first trimester I was in a lot of discomfort and pushed him away. I do put his hand on bump as often as possible to feel baby kicking. Not sure how else to help him calm down and stop stressing. I hate it when he stresses, it stresses me out too!

Evergreen17 · 06/10/2016 08:11

Thanks ladies. Mystery I think my DH is stressed about that too. He has been working really hard and it doesnt help that I keep saying how worried I am about money...
Anyhow. Life has to go on. Feeling tired and worried. I dont get the "enjoy the pregnancy" some of my friends that have kids have said that and I want to say back yes sure, enjoy the awful anxiety before the 12 weeks scan and the constant worry Hmm how easy we forget...

Shellbell0403 · 06/10/2016 08:42

Scan day 💖

Good luck to anyone else having scans today

LondonGirl83 · 06/10/2016 09:52

Good luck shell

LondonGirl83 · 06/10/2016 09:53

ever sorry about you fight but hopefully things seem brighter today

wispaxmas · 06/10/2016 13:20

Ever, 'enjoy the pregnancy??' Who are these people? I know some people love being pregnant, but there are SO MANY annoyances. I'd much rather have kids without having to go through the whole preggo bit.

ScottishSnowflake · 06/10/2016 13:45

Good luck Shell!

divadee · 06/10/2016 14:09

I think I am turning into mumtobezilla. Blush

I want all the work done in the new place for when bubs comes along, but I find myself now moaning about all the dust and mess and how I never feel properly clean at the moment. Gahhh.

LondonGirl83 · 06/10/2016 14:32

I've been through building work before Divadee you totally have my sympathy. Even in the best of times, its incredibly stressful dealing with the dust and chaos.

I am not wishing my pregnancy away as I know once my baby arrives my life will change so much. I'm cherishing these last few months I can do whatever I want and its just DH and me. With that said though, I am SOOO uncomfortable at the moment. Really suffering from back and pelvic girdle pain. I've been to see the physio who has given me additional exercises to do beyond what I'm doing in yoga and pilates.

I know it could be much worse but I hate aching all the time
