Tulas are beautiful. I want a toddler one. I'm not going to buy a double buggy so I think I'm justified!
In other news heartburn has just hit. I hope it's not constant for the next 18 weeks!

LondonGirl83 · 30/09/2016 23:26

I'll have to check out the Tula then as well wispa! I slipped a disc last year and missed a lot of work and did a lot of physio to get it better. That's part of why I'm so motivated to go to pregnancy yoga and pilates twice a week. I'm terrified of totally falling apart. Between the relaxin hormones and the weakening of my pelvic floor (which holds your spine as well as everything else) associated with pregnancy, I want to keep my core and back as strong as I can.

What is the B /S / T community?

Friendly thanks for the explanation. Based on that I think the new Baby Bjorn (released very recently) should be fine as it keeps babies hips at the optimal angles.

Evergreen17 · 30/09/2016 23:56

Aww kikis thank you very much Smile
Shell that is an interesting point. I will ask midwife but as far as I am concerned, my PCOS is undiagnosed hence not of their knowledge.
Keeping I wore heels to a friend's wedding, heels that I had worn before all day and I could not bear them after ten minutes. I had to borrow flip flops from a friend.
Wispa thanks for advice. I got the info for a midwife friend and she sent some reading to go with it, rather than just anecdotal. Yes to being random how size of bump is not size of bubba and hard to estimate.
Thanks marjory, I have heard more people that did the same which is another reason why I want to query. It is a hard position, wanting the best but unable to predict!** Good that you made your choice both times. This is what I want, to get info and choose.

Thanks top. I just bought a wrap and have been practising with a stuffed animal. Probably not the same..Hmm
Thanks Ceecee
Smile
London and marjory I have heard baby bjorn not great either but the ergo something good? But this is from comments not proper reading so I probably shouldnt even say. And it seems that gumboots has a different theory here. Oh my so hard to choose which info is good sometimes!!
Maybe depends on you, I have bad back so will need something that is supportive and carries weight on my hips. But wrap sling for home and beginning

LunaPatuna · 01/10/2016 00:23

Playing catchup - overwhelmed with all the sling/ babywearing chat I feel entirely clueless!

Congrats on the boy Evergreen! I’m reluctant to even read your post it sounds like the mean commenters would send me into a rage/ cry. It’s a shame when people ruin an excellent resource like this with their unnecessary negativity. It's easy to say ignore them but attacks like that can be so upsetting when you're opening up about deeply personal subjects, just remember they're diverting aggression/ frustration from somewhere else.

I’m so naive I just assume all sonographers have a primary goal of getting the measurements & pictures done first time so you don’t have to come back - and to reassure you Bisquick! I’ve had to do star jumps and belly dancing at both scans to get what they needed. I hope you get someone soon & with a bit more patience/empathy . My last sonographer went “click happy” with the printer and I have about 10 pictures of feet because she was obsessing over them!

I got up at 3am Fri and had some NHS gaviscon substitute & a banana SBSparkles- I was reluctant to make mint tea as i thought the process of making it would properly wake me up! Haven't tried Windeze yet! Was on omeprazole, alverine etc pre pregnancy for stomach pain but issues seemed to disappear until now (21 weeks). I don’t have a very big bump yet but the pressure on my stomach/ bladder is pretty intense so my digestion must be a mess too. I have had it pretty good so far so hope weekend will sort it! //positive thoughts

Can anyone tell me how to join the FB group? I’ve seen a few posts alluding to it!

LondonGirl83 · 01/10/2016 00:47

Thanks gumbots I missed your post earlier!

I don't know how sensible the Institute for Hip Dysplasia is at all. It just seems to be the source of the advice people are spreading on the internet etc regarding baby carriers.

Either way, if that's the logic people are using to not recommend Bjorn, the new Bjorn seems to be fine as they've designed it with that advocacy groups recommendations in mind.

Like I said, I think most people don't seem to have any issue with using the old Bjorn's either so I'll let me DH decide what he finds most comfortable as he'll be doing most of the wearing.

twocatsandatoddler · 01/10/2016 06:49

Luna send Wispaxmas a PM with your email address and she can add you to the group. You can't search for it on F as it's set up as a secret group.

twocatsandatoddler · 01/10/2016 06:56

Regarding carriers - I'm sure it must be affected by how much you use them. I bought the ergo based on the stuff I'd read about hip placement, but in reality we didn't use it much apart from when we did some walks in the country, so if we'd bought one that kept baby in a less optional position I'm sure it would have been fine for the amount of use it got. If you're planning on babywearing a lot though, I would imagine it's better to get one that supports the baby properly.

Shellbell0403 · 01/10/2016 06:56

Well the sickness came back with s bang at half 2 this morning 😣

friendly gaviscon double action is a great best friend lol

SBSparkles · 01/10/2016 07:27

I'm not an anti vaccer (spelling?) but I'm suddenly worrying about the flu jab I'm having this morning. Is it really safe for pregnant women? I don't even take paracetamol and eat organic food so having this injected into my body and sent to my baby is worrying me! Any thoughts?

ScottishSnowflake · 01/10/2016 08:17

Hi SBS, I've got my flu and whooping cough jab next Tuesday. I try and avoid needles and injections as I hate(!) needles. Won't take tablets either unless I absolutely need to. However, all of my female friends here have had both and I've been told it's important for baby so I'm just going to have them. Sorry, not much use Sad

Evergreen17 · 01/10/2016 08:19

Hi Luna! Thansk Smile we keep it positive here.
I have started with the stomach pains too and taking gaviscon and having smaller meals Sad
It hurts!
Oh no shell!! I thought we were past sickness time!
I am one of the lucky ones that went without sickness... Sorry for the rest, it must be awful
Sparkles I am not anti-vac either but you tend to think about these things more now dont you?
I have not done my research on this but this is how I think: they inject a tiny bit of the virus, enough for you body to say hang on a minute! Most of these viruses are weaken or killed (bacteria depending in illness) Lets get the immune system on this. Then next time a bigger amount of them gets into your system your body is quick to respond. If you dont have the vaccine and then you are in touch with someone sick you will get a LOT more of the virus in a go. So I wouldn't worry, particularly since you have already had it.
Having the flu whilst pregnant is probably not fun.
I am having the whooping cough on Tuesday. Nerves as people say it hurts.

Evergreen17 · 01/10/2016 08:20

Shell and scottish Should I have asked for the flu one to get it at the same time as whooping cough? Confused

Shellbell0403 · 01/10/2016 08:32

ever i have only had my whooping cough one, I have to go in two weeks to get my flu jab as they hadn't started them when went for my other one... how u feeling today?

SBSparkles · 01/10/2016 08:41

Thanks guys!! I'm sat waiting for my turn now. Had a quick word with a lovely doc who assured me it was fine. Smile

ScottishSnowflake · 01/10/2016 09:00

Hi Evergreen, my doctors were happy to do both together or I could go back for the flu jab at a later date. I decided it was better for me to get them both at the same time as I panic ever so slightly with needles Confused means only one small stress for me. But they definitely don't have to be given together!

SBSparkles · 01/10/2016 09:13

Just had flu jab. Literally didn't even feel it - thought she hadn't done it until she said 'right that's done' needle is very fine Smile

topmammy · 01/10/2016 10:22

I never had the flu jab in my last pregnancy (they ran out as it was getting towards the end of flu season). In fact I've never had the flu jab before in my life. I will get it this time though as baby will be born when viruses are more likely to be flying around. I do think my breast milk has protected DD a lot though from getting ill. She's only ever had a couple of mild colds that have lasted a couple of days and she's over 2 now. I hope she doesn't catch everything going when she stops bf-ing though! Shock. I had the whooping cough jab last time. It doesn't hurt but it can make your arm ache a bit, usually the day after, and it can feel tender where the jab went in.

LondonGirl83 · 01/10/2016 10:31

Twocats I agree that the amount of baby wearing you do is bound to influence this. I don't see us baby carrying a lot--just for short bursts of 30 min or so when its more convenient than using the pram while out.

SBS I had a look into this too as I was curious as to why we were getting them. Both vaccines are safe for pregnant women-- in fact, pregnant women get special access to both because of the risks to the baby of not doing so.

Catching flu when pregnant is much more serious than contracting it when not pregnant and can even lead to premature labor.

Whopping cough may not be as important throughout the country but in London there was an outbreak a few years ago and it seems to be becoming more prevalent. Babies are too young to be vaccinated immediately post birth but can become seriously ill if they contract it. However, if the mother is immunised after 20 weeks gestation, that confers significant immunity to the baby.

I found all of this information on the NHS website. Glad to hear it isn't too painful! I have both of mine on Wednesday.

gumbootsandjandals · 01/10/2016 10:51

I have a degree in Anatomy and I also have a clinical degree. I have done a lot of (personal) research into baby carriers. There is no evidence that narrow "high street carriers" cause hip problems. The pavlik harness and hip spica hold babies hips in an "M" shape because that is what is necessary for correct formation of the hip socket for a child with hip dysplasia. Children without hip dysplasia do not need their hips extended in such a way.

The only substantial evidence re hip positioning causing dysplasia comes from some native American tribes that used to tie babies on to a wooden board to carry, legs held straight. Some if these children had dysplasia that was often cured with thick nappies.

Reusable nappies tend to be wider in the seat than disposable, and are more rigid in construction. These offer developing hips more support. Babies are in nappies 24/7 - surely this is a more important consideration than time spent in/type of carrier? I never see the same people who rail against Baby Bjorns speak out against the use of disposable nappies. But do you know what? There is no evidence that disposables cause hip dysplasia either.

I found my BB fabulous for the first couple of months as it is so easy to get baby in and out of - my Lillebaby is not as safe and secure for getting a v bendy newborn into. HOWEVER yes it did get uncomfortable once baby was heavier. I will use both carriers with his baby.

topmammy · 01/10/2016 11:08

I did find my baby bjorn pretty easy to get DD in and out of so that was good. It just pulled a lot on my shoulders when she was heavier. gum Im sure you're most probably right and BB's are fine for children with normal hips, although re. the reusable nappy thing - babies aren't dangled by their nappies though are they Grin and I find nappies like pampers a really flexible material tbh.

wispaxmas · 01/10/2016 13:07

London, that's right about the whooping cough outbreak in SE London a couple years ago, it was when I had DD and the nurse in my GP surgery said there were several cases among patients at the surgery!

Sorry, I'm not keeping up with the thread at all, just wanted to come on and say I had my consultant appointment and section approved, so it looks like I will be having a January baby Shock

divadee · 01/10/2016 13:42

Afternoon ladies.

Had my flu and whooping cough jabs this morning. Now got sore arms.

MarjorySunshineDust · 01/10/2016 14:03

The babybjorn is probably fine if you are just using it with a young baby and just wearing for quick trips. But I think if you plan on using a carrier long term then there are better options. Agree with friendly that the baby wearing community can be a bit nuts but there is some useful info out there.

Evergreen17 · 01/10/2016 18:10

Shell I am goodSmile thanks. Very relaxing weekend and going fishing tomorrow Grin
Scottish I might call them tomorrow and ask if I can have them both together as I hate asking work for time off.

ScottishSnowflake · 01/10/2016 19:34

It's worth a try Evergreen! Apparently flu jab only takes a few seconds so should be able to do it without extending your appointment slot.

I think baby's started doing summersaults - it's a weird feeling. Not the kicks I was getting used to, but a rolling feeling under my hand! Think baby likes steak and chips (like his father then Grin)
