Great to hear more positive scan news :)

I've experimented with various combinations at work, which is a job I love too. I find 80% works best for me - the right balance of time with DD and continuity at work. I do 80% of all on-call work too, which allows me that flexibility to move problematic shifts around when childcare is difficult.

Celen your DS sounds hilarious.

SharkBastard · 21/09/2016 07:16

Glad to see scans have gone well! No date for mine but I'm off to the hospital booking in on Friday.

I've found eating a bowl of porridge before bed (I really have to force it down) helps me not feel sick in the night or when I wake up, gives the chance to get some decent sleep which alleviates some of the sickness. Well, until I have breakfast and it goes all down hill again

Have a good day!

summerskittles91 · 21/09/2016 08:46

Good luck for the scan Celen

I was in tears with worry as soon as I lay down. He had just about put the gel on and I was half way to a panic attack! Luckily he found the baby quite quickly!

Morning all, just checking in.

My symptoms were never terrible (thank goodness) but they seem to have worn off a bit now. I'm 10+4 today, thought it was a little early for that? Don't know if I should feel relieved or worried! Not had any cramps or bleeding so assume things are ok. I'm off on holiday next week so that will hopefully take my mind off it then 12 week scan the day after I get back. Cannot wait to (hopefully) get the all clear then. Maybe I'll relax a bit more about it.

Changing the subject entirely! Someone mentioned nail polish earlier. Can anyone recommend a brand that is ok for us to use? I know you should be careful. Have resisted taking polish off my toes since I found out I was PG (I'm sure they look awful at close inspection) but I'd like to paint them again for holiday. Any tips greatly received. Smile

Theknittinggorilla · 21/09/2016 09:19

Hi all just checking in to the new thread thanks skittles.

I just used normal nail polish last time. On a similar note, I'm going to a wedding when I will be 11 weeks. I had (pre pregnancy) planned to have my hair cut and coloured the day before but in previous months pregnancies have waited to 12 weeks before a colour. I just have a semi permanent to cover a few grey hairs. Would anyone risk it at 11 weeks? Or should one resign myself to looking chubby, grey haired and pasty at the wedding....!

ScandiManny · 21/09/2016 09:26

Checking in to the new thread, hello all!

Have our 12 week 'rescan' this morning. Even though we saw a happy healthy baby just 2 weeks ago I'm still feeling very nervous. Appt is at 10:45 so not long to wait now thankfully!

Celen · 21/09/2016 10:17

Thank you all, yes he is a character Grin

mummySN · 21/09/2016 12:21

Hi all
was just looking through some of the messages as have not had any time to be online and catch up with dos and donts
someone mentioned they had pericorinitis treatment with local anaesthesia...do not know why!?! you are allowed lidocaine local anaesthesia when pregnant...
anywho....does anyone live in north london? and have any experience of watford or the royal free maternity units??
help appreciated x

SharkBastard · 21/09/2016 12:25

I was booked into Watford for my DD in 2008, but changed as I found Watford awful with they bedside manner, and the parking was ridiculous! Also, if a read nearby is closed, everything goes to a stand still.

However, I've had friends say they liked Watford, but I just find getting there and parked a nightmare as it's all a one way system

LuchiMangsho · 21/09/2016 12:30

Hi, to whoever mentioned childcare options. Having been there and done that, here's the deal:

  1. Nursery is great. But they won't take a sick child. And children get sick a LOT in their first year. Your entire annual leave may be spent dealing with colds.
  2. I don't have space for an au pair. And au pairs can't really be left with very small children.
  3. I have had the same childminder for 4+ years now. I was dubious about using a CM. And also you really need to have a good rapport and understand each other. Mine is utterly brilliant. She is like a member of the family (when I had my MMC she refused to take money for looking after DS for a few extra days). You need to find someone whose parenting style roughly agrees with yours. Yes, mine takes 2 weeks off in August, but my job is flexible and that's not a problem but also this year we took off for one of those weeks as well.
I don't pay her for when SHE is on holiday, obviously I do pay her for when I am on holiday. She is also uber cheap for London- £6 an hour so £60 a day, so much cheaper than most nurseries that are £70-80 here. Whatever you do, childcare is expensive- full time childcare for me is close to 1000 pounds a month (and a bit more with classes et al). In your position, I would work 4 long days and have 1 free day. However, don't plan to do any chores on that free day or else you'll drive yourself crazy. DH and I have a basic rule (again our jobs were flexible enough to allow this) that even at our busiest, one of us would be there to have breakfast and one of us would be there at bath time. As they grow older, I found that this is when kids let out a lot of their worries/anxieties and it is good to be around.
LuchiMangsho · 21/09/2016 12:31

I'm SW London. I've had friends who have had babies at the Royal Free and they have had good experiences (in the wider scheme of giving birth in busy London hospitals handling 5000 births a year etc).

mummySN · 21/09/2016 12:34

Had my first mat apt there and it was awkward regards parking and one way system and if there is traffic...that is it you are stuck!
will try a self refer to RF and see how that goes...
thanks!
LuchiMangsho...totally get the busy london hospital comment...hoping to go to RF and see if I get a 'comfort' feeling from it all....Mat care just seems very impersonal seeing as it is such a personal thing! And I work in the NHS so I know it can be better x

LotsaTuddles · 21/09/2016 13:30

Just checking in.

Had a mild panic about what I'm going to do if I go into labour in the day during the week. I have school runs every day. Tuesday my nieces and Friday both my ds and nieces. And I'll always have dd - so what the hell am I going to do is my panic.

Both dcs labour was very quick. Nothing then waters break then full blown contractions and a child quite quickly (dd less than an hour)

Luckily with dd my mum was here already so we just went. If I'd had to wait for someone to get here, I wouldn't have made it to the hospital Shock

My fear I think is that I'll have to wait for someone to get here and potentially do school runs for me and still get to hospital after that Blush

Can you tell I don't like not knowing what's going to happen Confused

naranciata · 21/09/2016 13:32

MummySN it was me with pericoronitis! I didn't have local anaesthetic though. Just an extremely painful scrape around with no anaesthesia.

Celen · 21/09/2016 13:47

Lotsa I'd offer my help as I'm local to you but I suspect the birth of our children will be at a similar time Grin

ecofreckle · 21/09/2016 14:57

Lotsa might you consider a home birth if your last two were quick and straightforward? That way you have what you need if it takes you by surprise but you can also change your mind and head to hospital if you wish.

jobrum · 21/09/2016 15:33

Place marking Smile

Celen · 21/09/2016 16:15

Everything fine! Very wriggly bambino inside with two arms, two legs and plenty of wavy fingers Smile
Due date now 1st April Grin

April 2017 #4 More baby scans, less morning sickness!
LotsaTuddles · 21/09/2016 16:26

Ha Celen! Would be great if we ending in hospital at the same time

Ecofreckle, they won't let me. Am high risk, emcs with DS, VBAC with dd but scar started to rupture and with a 3yo, 2yo and nearly nearly 2yo Labrador running around, I doubt it would ideal Grin

LotsaTuddles · 21/09/2016 16:27

Great scan picture Celen!!

Ooh an April fools baby

ChatEnOeuf · 21/09/2016 16:37

Heck, Lotsa, fancy an elective section?! I'd be terrified of labouring naturally with that much going on.

Lovely scan pic, Celen.

We used a nursery with DD, couldn't get the flexibility of days I needed elsewhere. Sorely tempted with an au pair with this one, I'll hopefully be going back when it's over a year old.

mummySN · 21/09/2016 16:58

Naranciata although you may not want your wisdom tooth out whilst pregnant (esp if you have net already had any dental X-rays done) it is otherwise safe to have local anaesthesia (should you need to again!)
If it keeps playing up and you need amoxicillin (which is safe to take during pregnancy) better of having it out (provided you have X-rays of the tooth in question) and take paracetamol for the postoperative soreness!
in the meantime if you feel it flare up...warm salty water mouth rinses!xx

StillaChocoholic · 21/09/2016 16:59

Scan went well, due date changed to 2nd.

I've had to announce on FB because the first thing MIL asked was can I post pics? Which I knew she would.
I didn't do an announcement with DS cos I'm just not bothered but she pretty much did it for me way before I was ready so I've had to compromise so as not to cause problems. DH doesn't seem to understand. She's a pretty good MIL normally but likes to post everything she can on FB.

Lovely scan pic Celen

Niks2026 · 21/09/2016 17:26

Beautiful scan pictures ladies!!

With regards to maternity, I'll take the whole year. I only took 8 months with dd1 and had a really hard time leaving her so young. With dd2 I had the whole year. We made some financial cuts to accommodate but worth every single second extra I got at home with her! I work full time but term time only. I'm lucky dd2's nursery offer term time only. By the time I have baby and return to work dd2 will be at school as well.
Baby will do 3 days a week at nursery (costs around £460-£500) per month. Their dad gets a day off in the week and my mum will have baby 1 day.

Sickness doesn't seem so bad today but I am really hungry. In currently snacking on grated cheese and cucumber Smile

IAmALionTamer · 21/09/2016 17:36

Just checking into the new thread.
So lovely to see the scan pics of lovely healthy babies. My scan date isn't until 13th October which feels an age away! I'm looking forward to being able to tell people afterwards, I'm seriously struggling to hide my expanding waistline nowGrin
