Can I ask a stupid question about c section recovery? My friend told me that she couldn't climb the stairs and had to sleep downstairs for the first week. She tends to be quite negative though, so is that standard for c section recovery? That bit bothers me more than anything!

For anyone who might be having a vaginal birth, have you ordered feme pads? They're brilliant!

SouthDownsSunshine · 22/09/2016 19:11

Luckily only 1.5% (or similar) end up in 3rd degree tear Solomon, I was just unlucky!

I totally get the right hand stitch when walking, turning in bed or making sudden movements. Annoying but mine tends to pass quite quickly.

I've got tiny, small baby, newborn clothes that I'll pack. Last time I had planned to take out the tiny ones but then dd arrived at 39 weeks and was small, so we bought more! Last time I didn't take a blanket, but I will this time.

bumplovin I'm packing for 3 days for my c section/baby's time in NICU. Plus endless quantities of pants! I figure I shouldn't be in longer for a planned c section, and dd will probably be in a nappy only in her incubator.

DartmoorDoughnut · 22/09/2016 19:34

soloman the only thing I struggled with was getting out of bed due to it being quite low and basically needing me to do a sit up, solved that by changing it for the spare bed which is higher.

DartmoorDoughnut · 22/09/2016 19:36

Oh and stairs were fine, I didn't walk the dogs for about 4/5 weeks as they pull and poo picking required a squat when wearing DS which I found uncomfortable but other than that recovery was fine!

Bigfam · 22/09/2016 21:52

What about lifting baby & older toddlers & things like hoovering? I genuinely thought once you had a c-section you'd be bed bound (being that it's classed as major abdominal surgery) or am I just being an idiot (please tell me if I'm being an idiot Grin)

bumbleclat · 22/09/2016 22:35

Ooh I had a 4D scan this evening, it was so cute.
Baby put on a great show of yawns, smiles, frowns and even put her foot up to her eyebrow to make the skin kind of wrinkle up above it- watched the DVD when we got home and got a whole bundle of photos soooo uplifting and (of course) she's beautiful!
My DSD and DH came too which was so special Smile

Londonmamabychance · 22/09/2016 22:42

Well relieved to know in not the only one suffering with the side stitch! So annoying.

Hope all of you planning a c-section will be fine! Lots of my friends who had it were so fine and all said that it was a relief to know when and how it would happen. The uncertainty of 'natural' birth can be quite stressful!

Just bought some stuff in the Frugi sale, after saying I wouldn't and would do with hand me downs! Suddenly I just wanted the new baby to have some stuff of his own and to get some cute stuff to feel excited about. Silly, As we're on quite a tight budget, but now looking forward to parcels arriving!

Thisisbonkers · 22/09/2016 23:02

stripey there definitely seemed more availability in store. Clearly, given I spent a small fortune!

StubbleTurnips · 22/09/2016 23:05

Oh London good for you! I ordered loads but got some amazing bargains so didn't feel so bad.

Bumplovin · 22/09/2016 23:12

southdowns I might pack for 3 days and leave some extra in the car then

firawla · 22/09/2016 23:54

I'm getting the walking stitch too, but on my left. Was meaning to ask if anyone else was suffering with that but you all beat me to it! Good to know we're all having similar!

Ordered a few bits in the next sale this evening. Hoping to go have a look at the Aldi baby event tomorrow, didn't get round to popping in to the Lidl one.

barkingtreefrog · 23/09/2016 06:38

I missed out on the Frugi sale but just bought a Frugi babygro for £5 from one of the second hand Facebook groups stubble linked to!

I've booked a pregnancy massage this afternoon to try and help with the back pain /SPD and get some advice on exercises I could be doing or ways to strap up the bump to help. I didn't want to keep waiting for the physio as I have no idea how long it will be and it hurts now!!

I'm getting the same stitch but the SPD pain at the front is the worst.

OP posts:
DartmoorDoughnut · 23/09/2016 07:55

bigfam I honestly don't know how it's going to be with regards to lifting toddlers! Luckily a combination of paternity and the office closing over Christmas means my DH will be home for the first 4 weeks so hopefully we'll be able to keep it to a minimum before that and once he goes back I'll be healed, that's the theory in any case!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 23/09/2016 07:57

In case anyone is interested the Next sale starts tomorrow.

My first was only 5lb 15oz and the newborn drowned her she was in SCUB/NICU for a while and could not dress her but when she came out was still not in newborn size. I packed her clothes but somehow forgot to pack mine and I was in for a week so hard to get DH to get me some.

Any advice on how to sleep I'm so uncomfortable

Nojo82 · 23/09/2016 10:07

Ive a lot of first size clothes that were given to be buy i dont think my baby will ever see them. History of big babies. Not buying anything else unless its bigger than 0-3.

Have my heart scan later. I have it in my head that everything is fine so heres hoping..

Lovewatchingrainfall · 23/09/2016 10:14

Good luck with your scan today Nojo I hope everything is okay. X

TipBoov · 23/09/2016 10:52

Good luck today Nojo

KitKat1985 · 23/09/2016 11:38

Good luck today Nojo. xx

I am also getting increasingly anxious re: the birth, but I keep telling myself there's nothing I can do about it. I've got to do it and that's that! I found last time quite frightening though, as no-one really realised how far along I was until too late for any pain relief etc so found the whole experience very overwhelming and the pain was very intense. [Sorry, not trying to frighten anyone]. On the positive side I recovered fairly quickly despite a second degree tear and stitches, although I did find it took a while to get my energy back. I didn't really know what I was doing last time though this time I know that if I feel like I need a poo then I'm actually at the pushing stage and not go to the toilet instead! so will be able to tell the midwives what I need a bit better I think.

Am feeling a bit over-whelmed and stressed generally. I've got a pretty hectic week again with loads of places that I need to be all week long. Plus DD has been a bit under the weather this week (temp of nearly 40c on tues), my Dad got rushed to A&E Wednesday (cancer related), and then I did a 15 hour shift yesterday with no break as it was hectic all day long, etc. Then to top it off despite being exhausted by the time I got home last night I was awake most of the night worrying about anything and everything. Then I started panicking that my bump had been very quiet the past couple of days so I started to horrific thoughts that she was ill etc and spent all night imagining even more horrific scenarios. Sad Bump has been back to fidgeting as normal again today though. I think I just don't feel the movements as strongly now as she's probably getting a bit cramped in there so can't kick as well, and I think I vaguely remember this happening last pregnancy as well now I think about it. I feel awful today. I've spent the past 3 hours on the sofa and haven't even managed to get dressed yet... Shock Thank goodness for CBeebies for DD.

SolomanDaisy · 23/09/2016 12:16

Good luck with the scan Nojo.

Sounds like you need that pyjama day kitkat.

Bigfam · 23/09/2016 12:37

Thinking of you nojo good luck x

SouthDownsSunshine · 23/09/2016 15:50

Good luck nojo, I hope it goes well and you get the all clear.

Oh kitkat that sounds like an exhausting week. I've no idea how you manage 15 hour working days. I find it easy to not notice baby's movements when I'm busy, plus I think I'm at the stage now that me moving sends baby off to sleep. And lying in bed trying to sleep wakes baby up to have a disco fest. Enjoy your pyjama day.

Nojo82 · 23/09/2016 15:55

Had my scan, no results yet. God knows how long ill have to wait. They monitored my heart rate throughout and it was quite fast so god knows what tbe result is gona be..

Mozfan1 · 23/09/2016 17:24

Hello everybody!

I'm a long time lurker on mumsnet and have joined today (looking for advice as moving house... Long story!)

Anyway, my edd is 23rd December. I had my ds on 27th December last year and am a SAHM. I am struggling more and more chasing after him and keeping him entertained all day while keeping my house from looking like a bombs dropped on it... I feel so tired I could drop sometimes. And I have had a really awful pain in my groin that means I sometimes can't walk properly. Aside from this dh and I are soon due to complete on new house and I'm very nervous. It just feels like everything is happening at once!

Advice I'm after: this time around I am looking to request an ELCS after I had a very mild prolapse from the birth of my son. I have a consultant appointment on Monday and I am after any hints and tips!

Sorry for such a long post and congratulations everybody and good health to all xxx

Mozfan1 · 23/09/2016 17:26

Oh and if anyone has a boy and I have a girl this time round (I'm team yellow until the birth) I have lots of clothes we could trade or you can have!

veryfriendlylion · 23/09/2016 21:17

I have had absolutely no cravings at all but tonight I am desperate for an ice cold beer!!!! I'm literally climbing the walls in desperation! ShockShockAngry

ps, I'm not an alcoholic, I promise
