Hi everyone,

Have to say, I'm a big supporter of reigns and playpens, so that makes me a monster mummy too. Reigns are just great for walking round the park, etc. Once they're on, I let DD (17 months) choose where we walk if we're at the park or garden centre. She just loves it. It's not often you can let them lead the way safely and I think they really like getting the chance. She's so fast and has walked since 10 months (gulp!) that I needed someway of hanging on to her. And the playpen was great when she was smaller, particularly if we were on holiday in someone else's house that was full of breakables. She wasn't in it all the time, of course, but for those moments when you need to look away or disappear for a second, it's a life-line...

Myfairone- dont panick about no movement yet.. with my first and second I didnt feel anythining till 19weeks + infact with DD think it was more21-22 weeks.. I have only had a few movemnts not many at all.. think though the more you have you feel it earier as you aremore aware of how i feels.. hope that makes sense..

SOrry to hear you are feeling all hormonal..

Miaou- keep an eye on that scar as it is still new!!

I never had a problem with my c-section scar last time but it was 7.6years old...

Chooster- yes he is back thursday!!

DS has gone back to only sleeping for 10 hours on a night without naps again.. so is up between 5.30a dn 6am.. typical.. I had just said to DH on sat when he phoned I had got ds sleeping for 12hrs from 7.30-7.30.... toddlers... the joys. My friend is amazed he doesnt sleep more as he literally doesnt stop from the moment his eyes open till he goes to bed.. he has the attention span of about 5mins.. unless he watching CARS which he has broke...aaaaggghhh...lol

Hope everyone else is ok..tbh I have totally forgotton what people have wrote!!!

I think playpens are fine, if they're used within reason. Obviously any baby is going to freak out if they're left for hours in one spot, but I always made sure there were plenty of different things in it (and I'd swap toys over between 'visits'), so that she was occupied for the short time she was in there. I think she was barely aware that she was confined. As a consequence I've always been able to leave the room without her panicking, because I never got into the habit of carrying her with me to the loo all the time!

Afternoon all! Thanks for making me feel better!
The tears seem to have subsided today! woohooo! Just so glad I'm not sitting at my desk balling my eyes out! Hormones!

Catstar - How scary! You poor thing...Im so glad that you heard the heartbeat. You will probably find your bump is back as soon as you start eating properly again. Its early days so just take good care of yourself and eat what you fancy.

Abgirl - I watch Sumit Bose on the tv! How exciting...Well done!

Twoplusone - Only 2 more sleeps!!!!!!

For anyone still looking for maternity clothes, I went to Dorothy Perkins on Saturday and picked up two t-shirts at £3 each and a pair of trousers for £10 (reduced from £25!) So thanks to whoever had that tip...think it was Abgirl.

Have a great afternoon all.

x

I have never used a playpen.. but DH and I are considering it this time.. as if DS doesnt calm down, soon, I will have to use it for the babies saftey!!.. There is no way if DS doesnt change/calm down.. amI going to be able to go to the loo without taking him or babs with me.. I wont even be able to leave babs in moses basket to get jobs doone, make a cuppa, if he doesnt calm..

I am trying to see the ghealth visitor for advice but to no avail.. I asked at creche what he is like and guess what.... he is a little angel, never naughty or boystros (my brain has gone it is meliting away I can tspell anymore!!lol).. The only concern they have is his speech.. which I agree with also.. anyway that is a doifferent story sory for waughling..

Twink- part of me thinks it is ages away but I am measuring it in school holiday.. and only 3 hols to go ..... then we will be ready for action..
Those f us with older kids toimed it right didnt we just for the start of the 6 week hols!!!..

On the playpen debate, I never had one, but didn't want to take DD with me when I did chores/went to loo etc., so had to consider her safety. She is now really good at playing on her own and not at all clingy! When she was tiny, i used a bouncy chair or playmat, then a blow-up ring which lets them sit and play safely, then sometimes her travel cot (once she'd started crawling). She was walking at 10 months so no stopping her then, so we just made sure the house was childproofed and got stairgates fitted!

I am also a big fan of reins as they can always slip through your hand, and it does give them more freedom.

Apologies for posting twice! Still getting used to my hand-held PDA which is great as don't need to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to the PC, and can watch telly at the same time.

hello ladies, trying to catch still from being away and not really managing... Catstar you poor thing!! can't believe fish and chips could do that to you. So gld you are feeling better.

The playpen debate - I never got around to getting one and I still only rarely go to the loo/shower alone!! Weirdly whenever I take DS who is 20 months to someone's house where they do have one, he's straight in, shutting the gate behind him.

I wonder if everyone is over the MS stage yet? I am getting some quite irritating tugging pains when I stand up or sit down quite often... also dizziness and trying to sleep on my left hand side which is supposed to be best.

Myfairone, btw, I've felt nothing yet and it's my second but convinced that this is normal...

Take care all Giulia

Morning everyone! I am new to the thread and due on 18th July with my first baby.
I am feeling pretty down and a bit crap at the moment... This is going to sound so shallow and vain, but I have put on a ton of weight around my bum and upper thighs! I am not eating badly, and if anything less than i was prior to getting pregnant. I have cellulite all over my legs, my boobs are enormous and i have acne covering the lower half of my face. I can no longer stand to look at myself in the mirror
July feels like an eternity away, even though my DH has booked an amazing holiday for us in the US and we are moving into my dream home.
I am not adjusting to the changes to my body very well and i was wondering if anyone else ever felt like this?

Bertieboo, congratulations and welcome. So sorry to hear you are not feeling great.. I think it can be quite difficult adjusting to the changes, sounds like you are suffering from a fair few pregnancy symptoms which can make you feel down. I think the thing to remember is that it's temporary, it happens for a reason and you can and will return to what you were before, and that your body is attuning itself to your baby's needs..Everything you describe happens for a purpose to give you a lovely healthy son or daughter. Annoying though it can be we all need extra fat around our bums and hips when pregnant, for the baby and to support our spines as the weight at the front increases. Do keep eating as much as you feel you need by the way, not a good idea to undereat at this time for any number of reasons. Just try and find stuff you really enjoy.

I also think pregnancy is a time of very up and down emotions, definitely so in my case, and NOT just in the first 12 weeks. I have experienced terrible mood swings this time round and there's no environmental reason why. Stick around on this thread you will find there's lot of support and everyone in some way is in the same boat. Take care Giulia.

Welcome Bertieboo, sorry you are feeling down. Pregnant woment put weight on at different rates, some pile it on early then seem to remain the same until the baby is born, with others you would never know they were pregnant until the last couple of months, some pile it on steadily, others sporadically. I would not be at all disheartened by a bit of early weight gain, even if it is more than you feel it should be. Have your hair done, go to a nail bar, buy some gorgeous accessories, go for a pregnancy pamper day at a spa (if you can afford it!), get your hubby to take you out for supper somewhere nice. Do anything you can to get through this temporary dip. Keep posting.

Welcome Bertieboo and congratulations. Sorry you are feeling a little down. We all but on weight at difference rates and in different places. I've also noticed that my things and bum are increasing in size, so you're not alone. I tried a new haircut and clothes and feel so much better about myself. Find something you enjoy doing, or that makes you feel good to give your spirits a lift. Hope you feel better soon.

BertieBoo - Feel like that ALL THE TIME!!!!

I am on 2nd prg. Expanding at a massive rate. Only heading towards 20 weeks. Look like I did at 6/7 months the last time Plus I don't feel like I am "glowing" either. Just a lump. I think a lot of it is also a fear along the lines of ... "if I look like this now what am I going to look like at the end"

I can't run cos my back is sore (which I normally do loads of). But I did go back to the gym and just did a bit of cross trainer. Mentally it cheered me up and made me feel a lot better. Even though I know it didn't shift any weight. Helps get me out of the cycle of feel crap, eat loads of chocolate, feel even more crap etc. etc.

Just a thought....

(ABGIRL - I am due a bit earlier than expected. June 30th. But didn't put my stats up yet and still staying with the July bunch!)
