Hi, aal..
Just read through but I cant remember now who has said what!! Kyte re the bump growing.. it is amazing isnt it.. mine changes size through out the day also , must be to do with the position of the babs.

Thursday night I started to get lots of movement from LO.. proper kicks.. could feel the flick of the kick which is lovely..

Have had dd back to the hopistal to have her foot checked she has to have another 2weeks on the cast no weight bearing.. bless her.. the weather is really heavy rain at the mo so we cant go anywhere..

DS got assesed at creche yesterday for speech therapy, and the speacialist agreed with me that he is more of an 18month to 2year old in his milestones speech wise.. rather than a 34 month old.... She said they will want to review him again once she has oput in the report.. but I am going to ask them to do this in the house, as what she was telling me he was like at creche is alot quieter, and shier than the ds that I have at home.. I think as he cant cumminicate with the other children and adults properly he doesnt try to as he finds it hard when they dont understand him.. where as at hhome we can decifer what he is saying by actions etc.. and I obviously have more time to listen to him and understand him..

Sorry justt driviling on about me and mine..

Aunty mandy- glad scan went well.. stay with us aswell..
Kyte hope your spd doesnt bother ytou too much and well done on the lazyboy chair..

Those waiting for anomaly scans and speacialst scans good like.. I have my doppler scan on the 20th March.. my friend went to the same clinic last week to have her nuchal fold done.. and they did a normal scan and a 3d one too and gave her photos of all.. So I am hoping that they will do a 3d one also for us I will be 22-23 weeks by then (depending on which dates I go by).. so will be really clear..
TBH it has worried me a fair bit the babay was measuring small for dates.. I just cant shake the feeling that the probs I had with DD are returning!!!! The 20th cant come soon enough for me.

ANyway.. Good luck all..

Take care..

I may have 5 children but am no expert..but please feel free to ask me anything!!

abgirl · 03/03/2007 20:24

Hi All

Well had 20 week scan yesterday and it went v well. Baby was all as it should be and did a big yawn which was nice to see (definitely takes after DH!!). I did find out the sex but DH didn't want to know so he left the room and I'm going to keep the secret until the baby arrives - has made conversations about potential names more interesting though!

3flights can I be a bit nosy and ask what treatment your DS had? My DS is not very well either, have had some D&V this evening and a few blistery heat rashes during the week so I am wondering if he's got the same thing as your DS had...

Cupcakes you are on the list just in the wrong place at the moment! Will move you for next week. I keep up with everything by spending too long on here instead of what I should be doing!!

catstar · 04/03/2007 08:42

So exciting to read everyone's news! I had my scan on Friday (21+4 weeks) and found it really quite moving. We wanted to know the sex and apparently it was very obviously a girl, although when the sonographer pointed out the "three lines" that indicate this, I couldn't see them for the life of me!! Everything measured ok which was a relief to me because I hardly have a bump at all - none of my friends can believe it and always comment how "huge" they were at this stage. Still, I am tall and have a long body so can only assume the LO is all spread out vertically!

I've also been suffering achy hips sometimes at night when laying on my side, so have been propping myself up with pillows on my back. Will follow some of the exercise tips made here to try to help.

Good luck to all those with scans coming up and I hope all the aches and pains start getting better.

Miaou · 04/03/2007 08:52

This baby is definitely starting to move around more - a couple of nights ago it was so active that dh could feel the movements too . Hopefully I should see my midwife some time next week. Can't believe a whole month has gone by since my last appointment already! Despite all the m/s issues I have had this pregnancy seems to be going quite fast (thank goodness).

Cyee · 04/03/2007 14:34

Hi all - hope you've had/are having a good weekend. Good news on all the scans. Hope everyone's hips don't get any worse.

Can I hijack this slightly to ask Miaou a nappy question (hope you don't mind!). How many reuseables do you recommend getting for a newborn? And another (probably very stupid) question: Do you change the nappy entirely every time, or are the liners good enough to allow the same nappy to be used if the liner is replaced (after a smallish wee, for example)? I just have no idea whether that is a totally disgusting idea or not

Enjoy the rest of your weekends!
C

madmumNika · 04/03/2007 15:54

Abgirl- really glad scan went well And also v impressed that you are keeping the sex a secret- I wanted to do this but know I am too weak (DH doesn't want to find out, but I do!)!! So just gonna have to wait!

Just about reusable nappies... since we've got back onto this topic... I have to admit to being a bit of a fraud, I only used them when I was at home on maternity leave, so when DS started nursery and I went back to work we went to disposables...just couldn't keep up with the washing (& had no tumble dryer). BUT I intend to start off again using reusables this time. I had 12 nappies, but all different sorts, some totsbots, some motherease... as DS was prem it took a while for him to fit into a lot of them so ended up using good ol' terry nappies (which are v cheap and can be folded into lots of different shapes- & secured with wonderful nappy nippers not nasty safety pins!)- I actually found terries best for a long time! I would always get a fresh nappy at every change because rarely were they not soaking, although the liner did almost always catch all the poo thankfully. I also got 2 buckets- one for upstairs and one for downstairs which helped. I only needed 4 wraps for the 12 nappies as these rarely got soiled, but did find sizing them quite hard. Which brand of wraps have others used?

Incidentally I'm thinking about using reusables for DS1 too in the summer (when I can dry everything outside!) to help me potty train him as find disposables are just too good at whipping away pee so he doesn't have a clue yet that he's done one!! Anyone else found this helped?

Hope bumps and mums are all well xx

madmumNika · 04/03/2007 15:55

Catstar congrats on your scan too!
And all the others I have missed
Just can't keep track!! xx

typhoonsmum · 04/03/2007 18:26

Bought one of those doppler things on friday to put my mind at ease and it is fantastic.
Splodge's kicks are getting more obvious as kicks but still not as regular as I'd like so the doppler is a god send. I personally just think I'm being impatient. You're right Firststar I think the history makes it worse and working on Gynae is the worst possible. I see all the late miscarriages and premature water rupture. (All which have POOR PROGNOSIS)and none of the good cases.
I vow this is the last child I have. Even if I left Gynae I'd still have the knowledge. I can't erase that. I had such a fab pregnancy with DD. This one is spent panicking.

Cyee · 04/03/2007 18:48

Typhoonsmum - sorry to hear you're feeling that way, but glad the doppler is putting your mind at rest. It must be really tough having access to all that info. I am one of those people who always wants to know everything, then regret that I know... too often it's doom and gloom. Focus on the splodge's strong heart beat though - that's great

On the nappy front, I highly recommend ebay (yes it is fast becoming an obsession!). Loads of people clearly spend a fortune on reuseables and then don't use them so there are loads of brand new, unused nappies of all types that you can get for cheaper than buying them direct from the suppliers.

I think my little lady is going to be into martial arts. She seems to spend her time bouncing and kicking between my bladder and my tummy. But I think that may have a lot to do with the fact that her mother has been enjoying a few too many sugary treats this weekend.

Take care all.

emmyb · 04/03/2007 18:53

thanks for the advice Kyte.

justbeme · 04/03/2007 21:24

wow, been unable to get to the pc for a few days and youve all been very busy chatting!!
Went to an NCT nearly new sale today, bought a few bits . Got given a lovely cot today and also a friend gave me a car seat (so I know the history).
My LO seems to have quite a pattern now - gets very active about 2230!!! mmm that will be interesting once born!
What exactly is a Doppler scan? is it a scan plus hearing the heartbeat?

abgirl · 05/03/2007 09:01

justbeme, a doppler scan is when the sonographer/consultant can monitor the flow of blood from the placenta to the baby - it tends only to be given when there is a medical need, in my case it was how they picked up that my DS wasn't growing properly and wasn't getting the oxygen he needed, so they whipped him out within two hours of seeing the scan results. This time I am having one earlier as if the blood flow already looks poor there will be a good chance I will get PE again, conversely if it is really good there will be a lower chance of getting PE again.

If you are having a normal pregnancy, or it is your first pregnancy, you would be unlikely to have a doppler scan.

Hope you all had good weekend!
Abgirl DS didn't realy get any treatment as they didn't know what it was that he had - we were told to rotate ibuprofen and paracetamol at their top doses to keep his temp down - he slept most of the time but was still v hot. Didn't touch his food either which was really scary - he's never done that before! It took him a week to get back on his food and back to normal-ish.

re boobs and bf - my DH's cousin now wants a boob job for her "chicken fillets" and another friend has massive norks as a result of being pg and bf - so just like everything else it affects everyone differently. Typical!

Does anyone have any experience of VBAC or is planning on having one? I'm at a loss what to do and change my mind every day.

Myfairone · 05/03/2007 09:56

Morning all,

Glad to hear that all the scans are going well. I'm sorry to hear about all the aches and pains but it has made me feel better (if that is any consolation!). Have been having very achey hips (well the left one anyway) and thought I had overdone it but seems its normal! (again, thank heavens for Mumsnet)

Okay, here's a question for you all regarding kicks. I am 19+1 and am getting some kicks and movement. The thing is they feel really low. For example, when I am lying down on my back I get a very taught feeling across my lower abdomen and can feel movement and kicks just above my hairline (sorry if thats too much information!), does this sound right? This is my first pregnancy so forgive me if I sound really stupid! But my bump is quite high and for some reason I expected kicks just under my belly button not as low as they are!

Anyone?

Have a great day everyone and hope you all had a great weekend.

abgirl · 05/03/2007 09:57

3flights, we think DS had rotavirus which is a common form of gastroentiritis among under 5's. Was pretty grim on Sat - whole house smelt! We kept him off dairy yesterday and he's only happy to eat jacket potatoes at the moment which is OK with us as long as he keeps eating something...

I have been wondering about VBAC too but consultant seemed pretty firm that it wouldn't be possible - I had my c section pretty early last time so my scar is a lot higher than most people's and more likely to rupture. There is lots of info about VBAC on the pregnancy thread.

abgirl · 05/03/2007 09:59

Myfairone, low kicks are probably just an indicator of where baby is. I am normally feeling movement around my lower abdomen, very rarely as high as my belly button and I am a few weeks further on than you. Have you got a scan soon? It'll help to re-assure you.

madmumNika · 05/03/2007 10:14

'Morning all, just about VBACs... I'm hoping to have one if this pregnancy progresses normally/healthily (always wanted a 'natural' birth but also aware that in reality it might be v tough!). My consultant is happy for this as there are often fewer risks with a vaginal birth than a c-section (unless there are complicating factors). It's been well explained to me that I will have to have extra monitors during labour etc. to watch for uterine rupture, and that there is about a 50% chance I might end up with another section. Now I just have to keep fingers crossed that PE stays away this time! Good luck making decisions, I think if you want a planned c-section they will grant you one if you've had a previous section.

twoplusone · 05/03/2007 10:21

justbeme- A doppler scan is where they look at the blood flow going to and from the placenta and baby.. The look at the uterine artery..... As far as I am aware they can pick up a number of problems.. re pre eclampsia.., and IUGR and placenta insuffincy.. it is the last two that I am having the doppler scan for because of my pregnancy with DD..

I may becoming home next week.. got some bad news last week, so trying to get home for a funeral.. one of my mams best friends, she was only 51/52 and passed away unexpectadly..

catstar · 05/03/2007 10:28

Hi myfairone - I'm the same as you. I have a very small, high bump but the kicks are very low and I have to pull my waistband right down to see them. I had my scan on Friday and was told the baby is in breech position, so I suppose that might explain the low kicks. Isn't it exciting when you feel them for the first time!

Have a good week everyone!

twoplusone · 05/03/2007 10:30

sorry started to write that last message abit ago then stopped as someone came round for coffee..

I had a VBAC last time and am going for one again..

here is a copy of my birth annoncement if you want to see how it went..
...
I am now a mother of two Scott was born at 4.23 saturday morningweighing 6lb 15oz natural delivery. he was op so very painful. run down. Went to hospital at 6pm Friday night contractions not bad but every 4-5 mins. 9 pm contractions every 3 mins but wasn't dilated. 11pm contractions every 2 mins still no dilation 1am contractions every 1-2 mins 3cm dilated 1.30am had epidural as couldn't stand the pain any more. 2am epidural kicked 3.30am started to shiver epidural wouldn't top up 4am wanted to push, still shivering mw examined and i was 10 cm but baby was not down. she told me would still be hours. 4.15am I just had to push couldn't hold off. head crowned with push. 4.23am head and body delivered in one push Scott literally flew out. bless. scott and I were both in shock for a good hour afterwards as things had progressed really quickly. Mw commented that she had never seen an op go through second stage so quick. I have a small tear no stiches quite sore. Scott is gorgeous, DD and DH and i are all chuffed to bits so far he desn't really cry alot.

I did feel very proud of myself for having a vbac.. I remmeber I kept saying.."I done that.... "

Myfairone-my movments are mainly just above the hairline too..

OP posts:
Cyee · 05/03/2007 11:35

Hi all -

Mine is also a hairline kicker, Myfairone! I think it is due to her position, mine is also breech which means bum is very low. So I guess legs and even elbows etc make their mark lower and there's less action around the head, which is nearer tummy button. You can definitely tell when the position alters slightly because I can feel the kicks higher. But mine are also mainly around the hairline, which makes having a feel during the day slightly problematic .

Have a good day.
