Hi everyone,

Emmyb and LynneC your scan pics are gorgeous, much clearer than mine! Sorry about your scan experience Pookey. Glad you have more time Faby.

Thanks for all the nappies anad BF-ing hints and tips. They really help calm me down about things.

I'm feeling the same aches and pains as everyone else and glad it's not just me. I've been blaming walking in my converse for the problem.

I know we're all supposed to have stopped peeing like mad, but is anyone else feeling they really need to go, but finding they don't have much to do when they get there? My beloved child seems to be using my bladder like a trampoline.

Oh - and we opened the gender/scan envelope and... it's a girl! Totally surprised as have been convinced it would be a boy. I am now bamboozling my DH with impossible to spell but lovely to say Irish names Haven't told anyone in RL. Doing a good job of sticking to 'it' for now, bless her.

Hope everyone is keeping well. Anyone else obsessed with baby stuff. I am having to limit my ebay use....

Congratulations Cyee, am hoping to find out the 'flavour' of my baby on Friday though DH still needs to be persuaded that it's a good idea. Am positively avoiding ebay as we still have all of DS's stuff so (in theory) shouldn't need to but too much more. Have already treated myself to a rather beautiful large changing bag so I can fit everything for DS and the new baby in there...

Cyee · 28/02/2007 16:14

Thanks firststar and abgirl. Good luck with the scan on Friday abgirl. I thought my DH was going to change his mind at the last second... started saying things like 'why are we finding out again?' Thankfully he went along with it.

Soooo - abgirl - what kind of bag did you go for? I am a bit of a bag lady and think pregnancy/chilbirth is the ideal opportunity to indulge myself...

lynnec · 28/02/2007 17:47

Im so,so of all who are getting 20 week scans
i wish you all the best, it must be really good seeing the lo when they are much bigger from the 12 week scan which i had.
I hope everyones feeling better and keeping well xxx Ive been well, but noticed the last couple of days i have a trapped nerve just above my bum and it quite sore when i walk

abgirl · 01/03/2007 09:22

Cyee, it's an OiOi hobo bag - new they are £55 but I paid a bit less than that! Really roomy with lots of compartments, a mat and a key fob - I roadtested it a couple of weeks ago when I took my DS up to London to meet some friends and it was great - DH not too happy though as it's bright pink!!

swift1 · 01/03/2007 09:29

Hi all,

shall we start putting ideas for names on here, cos Im really stuck and need inspiration!

I really like Daniel for a boy, but dh likes Xander. For a girl I like Maria, but DH doesnt. Whatever it is it needs to do with Emma.

Cyee · 01/03/2007 10:53

Ooooh sounds lovely abgirl. I think a nice bag would be a great treat. Must start browsing. I think hot pink will look great on your DH!

Hi swift - I love Irish/Celtic names, probs because I'm an Irish girl living over here in heathen England . I like names like Finn, Owen/Eoin, Ciaran/Ciara, Eva, Elish, Orla... know they're an acquired taste but I quite like them. I have my own top list of names for our (90% sure it's a ) girl. Keeping them quiet for now while I percolate on them. There are loads of great web sites with unusual names on and indeed good old 'traditional' names. I've found these really helpful. Good luck with your choices.

Cakehead · 01/03/2007 13:28

Hi everyone, Glad to hear the scans are going well. Ours was fine - baby looked weirdly like DD at the same stage. I mean, I know they must all look a like a bit, but it was just uncanny. And yes, those pains. I push DD to nursery and such a stitch by the time I get there. And I feel really short of breath all the time too, like a big old huffa-puffa. A friend's just pointed out I've only got a couple of weeks of the second trimester left, and then the tired bit starts. Great. I feel tired enough already!

twoplusone · 01/03/2007 13:29

Just catching up after not being here for a while...

Faby - I'd been looking at your other thread and am pleased to hear that you scan went well - Really good luck with the fetal scan. Please let us know how you are getting on.

So, its a boy for Emmy (amazing scan picture and your little girl looks adorable!) and a girl for Cyee. Great great great news... I love those Irish names Cyee. My friend called her daughters Ciara and Aoife - really pretty names.

Lynne - I hope the pains have gone - I get them as well every now and again and I do worry that it means something is wrong. But then I remmeber everything my body is doing at the moment and I'm not surprised I feel a few aches and pains.

Good luck to all those with scans coming up - it looks like a few of us are having gender scans done. We may need to update our names on the roll call with what flavour we are having!

As teh subject of names has come up - I'd appreciate any help with boys names - particularly those who know they are now having girls - what were your 'boy' choices???

Jamantha · 01/03/2007 14:18

Just back from the scan and very happy. Didn't find out the gender (didn't want to know), but was pleased to see that all appears to be normal. Apparently got long legs, which must be some kind of throw back as neither of us do (though both our maternal grandfathers did). And looks like being at top end of normal weight range too. But so pleased that all's well and to see some great pics that who cares if it might be a big 'un? Also found that the placenta is anterior (but not low) which helps explains why I've not felt a huge amount of movement and why what I have felt has been a bit "muffled" feeling.

Hope everyone else is going OK, and good luck for others with scans still to come. Oh and a tip I was given to help induce movement (having heard some people say they're worried if they can't feel it for a bit) is to eat something sugary. He/she was lying in totally the wrong position to get the measurements they wanted, but one chocolate bar later and hey presto!

Sorry to have gone on so long, but am v.pleased

Myfairone · 01/03/2007 14:20

Afternoon all,

Sorry I haven't been around much, I got really busy at work and didnt have any time to myself! Don't you just hate it when work gets in the way of your personal stuff?!

I'm glad to hear that the scans are going well. I have mine on Tuesday 13th and simply cannot wait!

I had some really bad pains in my tummy at the beginning of the week and got myself so worried over it. The pain was period like and very low but off to one side. I felt worse when I walked. I went to bed early and when I woke up it was gone! (much to my relief) If only I could have got onto here I would have seen that lots of you are feeling the same! THANK GOD FOR MUMSNET!

Anyone else got sore feet? Balls of my feet are so sore and no matter what shoes I wear I am uncomfortable.

Anyway, enough of my moaning (I really hate being moaney!), hope you are all having a great day and are pain free today!

Big hugs to all.

Miaou · 01/03/2007 14:29

Hello all - Jamantha I think my placenta is anterior too; don't know for definite but I am not feeling any kicks on the left and I can't get comfy lying on my left hand side - same as I had with ds (also anterior placenta). It wasn't mentioned at my 13 week scan and I don't get another one - so I am assuming it's not too low either!

Names - we haven't really discussed names as yet, but we quite like Hamish for a boy and Ishbel for a girl (We want a Scottish first name and an English second name). But nothing's decided yet! We will probably get the dds involved in helping us to decide nearer the time - they helped to choose ds's names which was lovely

Myfairone · 01/03/2007 14:38

Jamantha - congratulations on a successful scan! You sound very bubbly, and rightly so!

Keep looking at your pictures and enjoy!

pookey · 01/03/2007 15:43

I dont understand why scans vary so much across GB, my low lying placenta wasn't commented on at 13 weeks but maybe they just dont look for that kind of thing at that point if a later scan is planned and would have scheduled another one if that was noticed.

Miaou Hamish and Ishbel are really lovely names, i cant help having a cute picture in my head of what a baby hamish would look like!

I am thinking along the lines of Irish names (my parents are Irish) but dont know if it is a bit naff if second generation irish. I also like Orla but dp has gone off it as a choice - he wants Jessica for a girls name - I just think of frank spencer!

Myfairone I had period like cramps yest, weird.

Jamantha glad the scan went well

Jamantha · 01/03/2007 15:54

Pookey - this was my 20 week scan where they said about the placenta position. nothing was said at the 12 week one I had. Not sure if it's just not that relevant at that stage (I understand things can move about, as time progresses?) or if it's not possible to tell much at that stage? Are you only having the one scan then? If so then is that through choice or did you only get offered the one? Sorry, but I'm also not sure if/how things work differently in different parts of the country.

pookey · 01/03/2007 16:00

Oh no sorry J I was more replying to Mioau's comment I guess. I had a 13 week and 20 week scan, but some people on here only seem to have 1 at 13 weeks. I think if a 13 week scan is all that is offered it must be more detailed than the 13 week scan is when there will also be a 20 weeks scan itms. Sorry, my command of written English has gone right out of the window since preggers (not sure I ever actually had any command of written English though )

Jamantha · 01/03/2007 17:30

S'ok Pookey - it's amazing how often my brain turns to jelly these days (well it always did from time to time, but seems to be getting more regular).

Is everyone else still having sporadic (oh big word for a Thursday) movement. Am 18 weeks now and just want it to move regularly so I can relax.

Honestly I am not happy if I'm not worrying about something

Chooster · 01/03/2007 19:18

Congratulations on your scan Jamantha! Thats great isn't it. Sorry I can't comment on Cardio scans Kyte as I've never had one but it will be lovely for you to see you little one a bit bigger!

Miaou - I love Ishbel!!!! My friends daughter has that name and I think its lovely.

Typhoonsmum - i've also been worrying a bit about movement. I can feel the baby very occasionally of I'm sitting in a meeting during the day and I usually feel somthing in the evening once I'm relaxing but its not often and not that strong. I can only imagine the movement will become more noticeable over the next couple of weeks.

lynnec · 01/03/2007 19:28

typhoonsmum/chooster, im the same, not had alot of movement, do feel a bit now and then.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a trapped nerve..just above my bum it was very painfull as i walked along the road today, didnt know weather i should laugh or cry with the pain
