Thanks Miaou As it goes I rang my mum and she thinks it may have happened in at least one of her pregnancies but she still gave birth vaginally. Hopefully it will be the same for me as it was for you both and it will resolve itself. I am going to try and think more positively and shake off the slightly anxious feelings I have with this pregnancy.

Hope it goes well Jamantha, my 20 week scan for my first was exciting and reassuring and it was lovely, other stuff aside, to see this one's little feet side by side kicking around and the heart beating

lynnec · 26/02/2007 21:46

pookey, sorry to hear about your scan, thats awful.

Ladies, thanks for all the info on bf, dont know what id do without you all x
Chooster, must admit, thats a good incentive, getting my figure back, thats the only bit my dredding, incase i dont get it back.

Jennster · 26/02/2007 22:01

Just found the email from last year with this link to the company I bought a TENS machine for £34.99. Same price as some are hired for.

I had a Neurotrac machine.

faby · 27/02/2007 08:49

Hello

Please can someone give me some advice; I live in West Lothian and just recevied news that my screening test for downs has come back as high risk. I have an appointment today for a amnio and I don't think I'm ready to say whether I want this or not ( I only found out yesterday) has anyone been in a similar position?

Cyee · 27/02/2007 09:22

I don't have any experience/advice to share on that one Faby. Hope things go ok no matter what you decide. Hope someone has some words of wisdom for you.

abgirl · 27/02/2007 09:23

faby

sorry to hear about your results, must be very worrying for you. If you want some quick replies, post a message on the pregnancy discussion as I'm sure others will have been in this position. Will keep my fingers crossed for you...

lynnec · 27/02/2007 09:47

faby, my thoughts are with you x...Although i havent experienced this my friend did, her results came back very high risk...she went on to give birth to a very healthy girl. When i went for my test, the doc told me if i get a phone call regarding my results, i wasnt to worry (easier said than done) as its a new thing, they have to call one in five patients????? Hopefully things turn out to be ok.xxx

Hi all,

With reference to TENS machine my local health centre hire them out which is where I got them from last couple of times for a mere £10 for 2 weeks.I found it to be a very good distraction method 1st time round, 2nd time round I didn't end up using it did deep breathing instead

Nappies; I have found LIDL's nappies are fab and don't leak very much and are very cheap, their pull ups are fab too.

Cars; We bought a Vauxhall Vectra a couple of months ago for our growing brood. It has 7 seats and the two in the back fold down and go underneath (if that makes sense?) so you don't see them unless you use them. Only disadvantage..when all 7 seats are up there is NO boot space could just squeeze in Maclaren buggy.

Hope all are well or getting better...the flu/cold bug does eventually go..took me 21/2 weeks to feel 'normal' again it's a lingering bugger.

big hugs

saf1 · 27/02/2007 11:40

Pookey;
Just read your posting- rest assure I had a low lying placenta with both pregnancy's (haven't with this one which is bizarre!!) and both times it moved..I too panicked when was first told as you have all these worries and concerns and end up reading lots up stuff to make you panic even more. But please try and relax as they can and often do move .

Hope this helps

Take care

Trimum2 · 27/02/2007 11:42

Saf1 - did you find the deep breathing worked????? Was just reading about Hypno birthing recently after seeing a clip of someone using it. Looked amazing. But after a horrendous time first time around I am scared now and not sure I have the confidence to trust myself to do without a tens. In fact, before seeing the deep breathing/hypno birthing clip I had kinda made up my mind to ask for drugs this time around as I found it too traumatic with nothing last time.

Miaou · 27/02/2007 11:45

This from good ole babycentre website:

"Placenta praevia can be divided into four types, of which the first two are the most common:
I the placenta is positioned low in the womb, but the baby can still be born vaginally.
II the lower edge of the placenta touches the opening of your cervix, but does not cover it, so the baby can be born vaginally.
III the placenta partially covers the opening of your cervix. The baby will need to be born by caesarean section.
IV the placenta completely covers the opening of your cervix. The baby will need to be born by caesarean section.

If you have an ultrasound scan in early pregnancy and the placenta seems to be near, or even covering the cervix, don't be too alarmed. It almost certainly is not placenta praevia. As your baby grows, your expanding uterus naturally pulls the placenta away from your cervix. Even if the placenta is still low-lying at your 20-week scan, it may well not present a problem once you are full-term.

Guidelines published by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) in 2003 recommend that all women whose placenta covers the opening of the cervix at any point in pregnancy should be offered an extra ultrasound scan at 36 weeks. In the majority of cases this scan will show that the placenta has moved. "

HTH!

Trimum2;
Yes the deep breathing did help as did the gas and air, moving around constantly and listening to relaxing music.

My friend has had 2 babies using hypo-birthing so I might give it a whirl this time.

I suggest that you try and be very positive and relaxed as possible cos if you're anxious and only remember your last experience you will tense up and not have a good birth.

HTH

Thank you for your support. I went to the hospital today and discussed my options. I knew that I would not have a termination if my baby had downs, so I asked to have a scan instead of an amnio. Although, the scan is not at all a diagnostic test it could show some abnormalities associated with DS. Scan was normal. I am back again in two weeks for a fetal heart scan and can think again about amnio in interim. I feel a lot better than i did this morning. Thanks.

Ladies, not sure if this normal, but im 19 weeks and this evening in quite a bit of pain..feels like period pain at my lower left side and back, im shi*ting myself as i have already had a mc, earlier in the year, has anyone else had this????
It may just be me getting bigger (I HOPE) as i have noticed a big difference in my size today.

Jennster · 27/02/2007 19:10

Don't worry Lynne. I had this pain. Really painful (and not as bad as labour honest coz contractions only last a minute and this lasted hours) so rest, take paracetamol if you feel really bad. Use a hot water bottle if that helps and call your midwife/day unit or whatever they are called in your area if you are in the least stressed.

emmyb · 27/02/2007 19:59

Hiya all.
Ive not posted for ages. Work is hectic and Im knackered at night.
Wanted to say that we had scan today it waas done by the consultant as a follow up to the CVS to make sure the heart looked ok.
It was a fantastic scan really detailed. He was sucking his thumb at one point. We saw his heart and it looked completely normal according to the doc.YIPEE. And yes it defo is a he. i knew it was for some strange reason. So dd is excired to be having a brother.
Im trying to upload a picture on my profile of the scan.
Hope everyone else has a great scan. I think it was made better because the last one was so stressful.
Im amazed my blood pressure was normal as my boss at work is off for a few weeks so Im in charge of the department (school).

xxxx

lynnec · 27/02/2007 19:59

Jennster, thanks, i relaxed in a nice bath and that seems to have helped, ive also filled the hot water bottle and going to have an early night x Thanks again!

cupcakesgalore · 27/02/2007 20:32

hi everyone. Sorry not to have posted for ages. Had a bit of a name change from Earthtomummy, for reasons i won't bore you with. anyway, Pookey try not to worry. At 20 wks with my 1st pg. i had a low lying placenta. By 34 wks it had risen with the uterus, which is what most commonly happens. Hope it does for you. My placenta is on the front wall, which apparently can mean an awkward delivery- joy of joys.
I've had a terrible day of fractious 3 and 5 year old children - and really bad SPD to boot. but I've just found out I've won a deluxe Champneys hamper thanks to Mumnet so all is right with the world again - at least for this eve!.

Miaou · 27/02/2007 21:20

lynnec, I get this pain (and did in my last pregnancy) - I was told it was to do with my ligaments stretching and just to go gently with the exercise. Ds and I like to take a walk each day and don't go far, but if I go out twice then I get the same achey, period-like pains that you describe. I found I could do any amount of swimming but walking was uncomfortable up until about week 30 in pregnancy last time (when it seemed to ease).

cupcakesgalore - I had an anterior placenta (as well as low!) in my third pregnancy - never heard that it might cause problems in childbirth though! I had no problems delivering ds, even though he came out shy (his hand over his face ) - so please don't lose any sleep over that! What I did find though was that it was sometimes difficult for the m/w to find the hearbeat, depending on his position, and that I didn't feel any kicks where the placenta was (so again depending on his position he sometimes seemed a little "quiet").

Two days in a row now when I haven't been sick - yay!!

cupcakesgalore · 27/02/2007 22:11

hurrah for not being sick! I keep getting the odd 3 day spells of vomiting (sure it's linked to growth spurts?). Dreadful SPD though and ligament pulls - period-y like in my lower abdomen. I'm really so happy to be pg. and I don't feel like i can whinge about the discomfort to friends -a fter all i knew what I was getting into when I decided to go for no. 4 with 3 youngsters in tow and a history of v. rough pgs. All the same it is nice to be able to come on Mumsnet and air my whinges and worries! I'm just finding my decreased mobility with SPD really tough at the mo. - it is coming and going though, so fuindetrs crossed it's not for the duration.

abgirl · 28/02/2007 08:42

Emmyb and lynneC am loving the scan photos! Your babies look so cute!!

lynnec · 28/02/2007 09:07

Miaou, think you are right...i was out walking all day yesterday...i wont be doing that again, gave myself a bit of a fright.
