Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
auntymandy · 24/02/2007 20:14

my 1st was 8lb
2nd 7lb 13
3rd 7lb 11
4th 10lb 2
5th 9lb 15

pookey · 24/02/2007 22:48

I am looking humongeous again and ds my first (Gulp) was 9lb4 - Big babies run in my mother's family my aunty had twins each in excess of 9lb and my grandmother also had big babies one of whom sadly died during labour (I dont think this would have happened with the monitoring we have now - it was 40 years or so ago). I have been booked in for a homebirth but i am seriously beginning to wonder if this is sensible. I am still 2lb lighter than when I first became pregnant but nobody believes me and looks at me as though I am clearly mad when i make that claim .

pookey · 24/02/2007 22:53

Sorry if I sounded flippant i think it is because I am actually really quite scared and filled with guilt for contemplating a homebirth after complicatedish 1st birth.

auntymandy · 24/02/2007 22:54

when are you due?

pookey · 24/02/2007 23:01

I am due on the 6th of July. I have my scan on monday, I remember looking at DS scan measurments after his 20 week scan and they were all within a normal range, but I guess 9lb is normal? The community midwife last time told me ds was going to be a nice size maybe 7 or 8lb but found out afterwards they actually suspected he would be a whopper because my tummy was all baby and they had arranged for a senior midwife to attend my last attempt at home birth.

auntymandy · 24/02/2007 23:07

my scan is Monday too!
Due end of June. My midwife guessed I was over 9lb!
had a late scan due to size and it was pretty acurate with both the last 2.

pookey · 24/02/2007 23:18

I guess if a late scan is an option that would make me a little happier to go ahead with the homebirth if everything is ok. A lot of DS size was in his body frame - big shoulders etc. Big babies are cute though

On another hopeful note a friend who had a 1st birth sim to mine app found recently giving birth to her daughter a walk in the park and is swanning around as happy as larry!

pookey · 24/02/2007 23:19

Sorry also meant to say hope your scan goes well on monday and I will check how it went if i can get on the PC

auntymandy · 24/02/2007 23:19

think 2nds are a bit easier!

Ladies, would anyone know if i can buy the elastic for maternity jeans, the elastic with the button holes???? Im not sure if you can buy this, i bought a pair of next maternity jeans from ebay in excellant condition, tried them on a they were so comfortable, just a bit too big, i then realised the elastic button holes were ripped, i have tried remmant kings, also took them to a machinist, she wanted to make them all elasticated waist for £15, but i thought this was a bit too much, mind you might just have to if you cant buy the elastic!!!

Cyee · 25/02/2007 16:45

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear scans, cars etc are going well. I think this thread has slowed down a little, but it's still a mare to keep up with everything!

LynneC, just did a google search on 'buttonhole elastic' and got a few hits. A number of haberdashers sell it, and seems to be reasonably cheap, one was 49p I think. Good luck!

Take care all - and hope you've all had a good weekend.

lynnec · 25/02/2007 16:50

Cyee, thanks for that! I'll do that search just now.

lynnec · 25/02/2007 19:29

Cyee, managed to get that, didnt think i would as a few machinists told me i wouldnt get it anywhere. Thanks again!

Chooster · 26/02/2007 09:22

Hi all - I've tried to have a catch up and sorry to all those who are having sickness. Hopefully it will be disappearing soon.

I'm afraid I have no car suggestions, but we are going to be swapping my 3 door car for a 5 door fairly soon! I'm afraid I used disposables with my DS and I'm considering trying the re-usables this time. I think I'll follow Kyte's advise and buy a few different types from ebay to try them out. Friends that have used them before have said its really easy!

I had my 20wk scan (well I was only 18 weeks at the time) last Wednesday and thankfully everything is absolutely fine. We asked to find out the sex and when the consultant was had the probe in the right position she asked us what we thought.... Definately and very clearly a boy!! So, thats DS2 for us. We were really thrilled as we just adore DS but we would have been equally thrilled with a girl. As this will probably be our last baby it does feel a little strange thinking that I'll never have a daughter, but even then I am no way wishing that this little one was a girl.

Congrats to those who've had scans already and I hope the time passes quickly for those still waiting!

twoplusone · 26/02/2007 09:49

Hi all..

Glad to hear scans are going well. Good luck for those with scans this week.

Baby movement seems to have stopped for a bit, but tummy defo getting bigger.. babs must be lying towards the back.. but I think I am right in saying that bigger ladies dont feel as much movement as smaller ladies!! maybe this is why too.. When I use the home doppler I can hear the kicks coming through n that more than I can the hb... very active little one.. dh was laughing last week at the scan telling me I was getting a good kicking from the inside..

I am enjoying thepiece and quiet this morning dd back at school (on crutches and in wheelchair for getting there and back! bless her ) , back at creche and dh back at work.. bliss....

We are not getting anew car can just fit the three of them in theback of ours.. but ds should be ready for a high back booster rather than big car seat by the time babs comes which should free up some room.. mnay still get a little run around as a second car then if people visit we just go out in both cars so we can do things with visitors..

Have talked dh into letting me get some furniture made providing price is right.. so I am going to design a computer cabnet, matching TV cabnet, sideboard and occassional table.. so I am going to look for some inspiration.... we went shopping att he weekend for garden furniture and nice plastic plants for the ouse as I kill real ones.. the difference they have made I have a plastic cheese plant in front room but does look real.. and have a put one plant in the bathroom windows.. looks a lot more homely...starting to lie my house now...
Hope all is well with everyone else.. xxx

Hi all,

TWOPLUSONE, READING YOUR POST HAS JUST REASURED ME, oops sorry, - I havent felt baby move since yesterday, but you said your movement seems to have stopped for a bit,so I feel a bit better now. Poor thing, ive been desperately prodding it all the time, its probably hiding at the back!!!

catstar · 26/02/2007 12:02

Glad to hear scans are going well - I can't believe we're getting to this stage now!! I must be feeling better as I have been very busy at work, and keep remembering I'm pregnant, rather than only being able to think about being pregnant and then remembering I'm at work!

On Friday I was able to wear a normal shirt to the office, but this morning was unable to button it up!! I seem to have really expanded in the rib area, below my bust, and so have quite a long bump. I have my scan on Friday and the old nervous feelings are coming back - so worried they might find something wrong. Fingers crossed!!

The baby's movements are so exciting and bring a smile to my face - I must look really smug on the train!! Did anyone see the picture of the world's smallest baby last week? Born at 21 weeks and now well enough to go home! I keep thinking that's what's inside me. Amazing.

Anyway, hope everyone's well! Keep up the interesting discussions about which nappies etc - all very interesting for a novice like me!

lynnec · 26/02/2007 13:45

Ladies, ive been searching for info about reusables, there are so many, ive opted for the all in one type (think thats what they are) they are called Stuffable by Nature Babies...i read you dont need the nappy wraps with these, so i'll give them a go, just bought 5 and you got 5 super liners with these ive also picked up some Kushies all from ebay...so we'll see how i get on

Breast feeding next.....im not so sure if i really want to breast feed, is it true your boobs go saggy when u do i know this sounds Ridiculous but i really like my boobs and wouldnt want then going saggy or smaller, has anyone got any experience of having saggy boobs after bf?????

abgirl · 26/02/2007 13:46

lynnec, I think bf is really a different experience for everyone who does it and you can't predict in advance how it will affect you - your body shape will change with pregnancy whatever you do. BFing is really recommended but it's not easy.

justbeme · 26/02/2007 15:32

Hi - Lynne I BF my DD for well over 1 yr (cant remember now!! - have to dig the old baby memory book out where I'd written it down)! - and I DONT have saggy boobs - but my nipples are well protruded from all that sucking!! TMI!
Is any ones belly button already protruding? I always said that I hated to see that on Preg women -!!
Oh and I bought myself a cheap sports bra from Asda (£4) and now im not suffering from those awful pains by my ribs. God it had got really bad - so was def the bra digging in where I'd expanded.

Chooster · 26/02/2007 16:00

Good luck for your scan on Friday Catstar - I love the image of you with the smug look on your face while you feel the kicks.

LynneC - As has been said everyone is different in how they react to Breast feeding, but my boobs didn't really change because of B/F - if anything I went up a cup size after I'd finished but they weren't saggy. Who knows what'll happen this time . Apart from the obvious benefits for the baby I liked the fact that B/F helped me get my figure back...

pookey · 26/02/2007 19:24

Auntymandy how did your scan go i hope it went well .

Mine wasn't a fun experience, the agency sonographer sat there in silence until he had done all the checks and when I asked if everything was ok he said 'I cant give a running commentary I will loose my voice'. Thankfully the baby is fine but he said I have a low lying placenta and will need another scan at 34 weeks. Because my head was full of this I forgot to ask for a picture and he didnt bother asking me if i wanted one . I checked with the midwife and I wont be able to have one at 34 weeks because the baby will be too big - I am so gutted because the 1st scan picture just looks like blackness. I spoke to the midwife about the placenta and she said it is nothing to worry about yet but if it doesnt move up I will have to have a caesarean - the worst outcome of a vaginal birth would be that the baby would die. I was just so horrified even having the possibility mentioned and as soon as I got out of there I started crying irrationally upset that I dont even have a picture if something happens.

Justaboutmanaging the midwife said that if the cervix moves my placenta out of the way I will still be able to have a homebirth but my confidence has well and truly been shaken. Also the scan measured the circumfrance of the head in the 90th centile {{pale faced emoticon would be good!!}} so looks like another big baba.
Sorry to drone on about myslef usually I lurk on this thread as hard to keep up - so a bit selfish to type such a long post .

Lynnec apparently it is pregnancy not breastfeeding that changes the shape of your boobs. Make sure you go somewhere like bravissimo and get fitted for a bra a couple of weeks before you are due and then again once you have have been breastfeeding a few weeks/months whenever you can drag yourself to the shop post baby! I sleep in my ununderwired bras which seems to help dp isnt impressed though!

Jamantha · 26/02/2007 20:37

Pookey - sorry scan didn't go so great for you. Hope things sort themsleves out OK. Fingers crossed for Thursday for me as I've got the scan then.

Miaou · 26/02/2007 20:48

pookey, so sorry to hear about your experience with the scan. I had a 20 week anomaly scan with ds with a similar guy - fortunately I was pre-warned that he doesn't talk but will answer questions afterwards - made a big difference just knowing that. I'm so sorry you didn't get a picture, what a shame!

Re your placenta, mine was low with ds to start with too (previous pg) - the vast majority move up on their own as the uterus expands (mine did). Try not to worry about it - the good thing is that they are aware of it so will keep an eye on it from now on.

And don't worry about writing a long post about yourself! Those are the ones I like best
