Hi, just found this section of the message boards, and am presuming that folks on this thread are due in July? (Sorry if I sound really thick!). Well if I can add to your numbers I'm due July 15th. Having easy day at home today - was awake half the night on Sunday with serious pains in side of abdomen, and then had period style cramping yesterday. Saw doc, who thought it was "digestive" and nothing serious, checked heartbeat was still strong, checked urine which showed signs of infection and told me to get some rest for a couple of days. Better night last night, and pains subsided, but still a bit under the weather so having another day off work to be sure. But sitting here has got me wondering what I should be doing other than generally looking after self, to make things easier in the long run. Any ideas?

justbeme · 20/02/2007 14:11

Hi - Im spending time (too much!) trawling the internet looking at prams/real nappies etc and getting totally confused with everything.
Really want a rear facing buggy/pram to start with whatever you call it - but not too keen on the car seat clip on options -and dont want the expense of a carrycot type one . With my DD i bought a Mothercare one which laid flat at 1st and I put a Moses basket mattress in, but it ended up being too heavy and cumbersome , so when about 6mths used a cheap umbrella buggy most of the time.
Any ideas which may fit the above?

keiralou · 20/02/2007 14:47

First time round we had the Jane one (Carrera model I think) Although it has a clip on car seat, the car seat does lay flat. DD was in that for a while. Have to be honest though - the car seat is a pain to get in and out of the car all the time as there are no clips - you have to strap it all in each time. It then converts into a forward facing pushchair. The good thing is and one of the main reaosns for chioosing it was that it folded really flat. at the time we only had a little jimny jeep with virtually no boot so that was a perfect fit. The car seat can also be flat in the back of the car, although we never used it like this. The good thing is, my sister in law also has the same model so this time round I'll do what she's done and borrow her seat so we'll keep one strapped in in the car and the other in the boot or on the pram for when we need that - saves all the strapping in.

Myfairone · 20/02/2007 16:31

Hi Jamantha, glad you found us, and yes we are all due in July! So sorry to hear about your abdominal pains - that must have been really scary! Hope you feel better soon. All you need to do is relax and rest and do what feels right with your body.

Justbeme - I too have been driving myself insane reading tons of different articles on 'baby stuff' and have decided that I am going to set myself a budget and buy the best that I can get for my money!

Have had a really mad afternoon at work and have laughed all day! I hope that the 'high hormones' stick around for a while because it would be nice to go home and show my DH that I'm not miserable 'all the time'!

Glad you've had a good afternoon Myfairone, I've been feeling a bit miserable, as while abdo is now feeling much better () my throat is now getting more sore as time passes. And my pregnancy-friendly medicine is at work (left in a hurry yesterday as unwell). Sorry for feeling so sorry for myself - I know it's just a bad throat and not the end of the world, just want to be feeling well and enjoying this part of it. Still, it's pancakes for tea, which means DH is cooking (he's better at them). All I've ahd to do is mix up the batter, which was a 5 minute job and now I can put my feet up (again).

Justabout - yes I can imagine it must have felt like a super-short one last time round. Hope things don't drag too much for you now though. It does feel like a long time though. But hey I guess that's good in a way - plenty of time to get ready.

Jennster · 20/02/2007 19:13

Hi Jamantha, I had some really bad pains on one side with my first at 17 weeks. Really painful that made me stop and gasp and worried everybody stupid. Was told it was just ligaments stretching (and they REALLY had to stretch coz back then I was quite thin and toned ahh the days) I took paracetamol. Got them much later on and realised I wasn't supporting my bump (not very big at all) with a pillow in bed and that was ligament pain too. They might have been pains from your water infection though. Hope you feel better soon. Steam inhalation, plenty of fluids and paracetamol if you really need it will help.

MelissaM · 20/02/2007 19:43

Hi all

sorry I haven't been on for a while. I seem to have been really busy, but I'm not sure what with! I will try to catch up with everything.

twoplusone - hope the 20 wk scan went well today. I had mine too. All seems ok, and it looks like the baby has a small head and long legs - here's hoping!!!

welcome dubaibaby, jamantha and any other newbies I've missed.

sorry to hear some of you aren't feeling very well. sending big hugs to all.

lol to the cartoon link cyee

Hope you all enjoy your pancakes tonight!

madmumNika · 20/02/2007 20:04

Hello everyone,

Welcome Jamantha & Dubaibaby! I joined this thread fairly late too, although had got on the stats bit early on!
Hope you start to feel better soon Jamantha, there seems to still be endless colds/sore throats etc. going round- I'm convinced in our household it's DS who brings them home from nursery and continuously infects us all!!

Hope those who still feel sick are getting better too, it really is the most miserable feeling.

Things are good with me & bump, 18 weeks gone now and finally a date for the 'big scan'- 20th March! Which seems FOREVER away! But also have specialist appt in just over a week regarding the pre-eclampsia I had last time with DS to plan my care for the rest of the pregnancy. Can't believe it's come to thinking about that time again!

Still quite hormonal though- burst into tears after DH left the kitchen in a right mess...I don't normally cry so am blaming it on hormones!! And the boobs are leaking still a bit...just to remind me I am pregnant!

Anyways DS & I are off to see my parents in England for 5 days starting tomorrow...can't wait as know my lovely Mum will spoil us rotten!! But not looking forward to the flight that much as DS still has to sit on my lap...the space on which is now restricted by bump!! But it's only just over an hr...should be ok!!

Hugs to you all xxoo

justbeme · 20/02/2007 20:13

Just had some lovely pancakes with lemon/sugar and runny chocolate sauce - or should I say Pancake - my dozy DP knocked the jug over and it all ran down the cupboards onto the floor!!!!!!
Any one else having strong pain/discomfort from the side of their ribs ? Mines on the left , where if i touch with my right hand its kinda in line with my boob - Ive just undone my bra which helped abit , but its sort of a burning/dull ache - very uncomfortable.

madmumNika · 20/02/2007 20:22

Justbeme- I have got the same rib pain, but on my right- it can get really sore- had it with DS too. I see a physio about other things and mentioned it to her- she said apparently it's due to stretching rib intercostal muscles (the muscles between each rib) which occurs when your bump & boobs are growing fast. Her tips were to check you are wearing the correct sized bra and good support to lift the boobs is essential, and to do stretches of lifting your hands high above your head and sitting or standing tall. If you work at a desk, make sure your computer mouse is near the edge of the desk so you're not bending forward to work it (or your keyboard) and try to sit as well as possible (i.e. not slouch). Lying down should help as it needs stretching out.

Last time my rib pain passed after a few weeks but this time it's dragging abit...but been having to do a lot of computer work & know it's worse after that...

Good luck xxoo

Jamantha · 20/02/2007 21:05

Had lovely duck pancakes for tea thanks to DH, and a lovely bath, so feeling more cheery now. Thanks for good wishes, I hope I'll be feeling better tomorrow. And nice to meet you all.

pulapula · 20/02/2007 21:24

Hello all,

Sounds like colds/flu are doing the rounds. Hope you all feel better soon.

Regarding rib pains, I had some too a couple of weeks ago, and read somewhere that around 18-20 weeks, as the uterus moves up out of the pelvis, then stretching pains can occur higher up.

My bump has finally started to harden and be more 'pointy', so I feel less fat and more pregnant now and am definitely into my maternity clothes with no going back now.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday which was very reassuring- the sonographer was great- she explained what she was looking for, and showed that she could see it, so no signs for concern. We also asked to know the sex, and it was definitely a boy! We are quite nervous about having a boy as - based on babies/toddlers we know - girls are much more independent (as our DD is) and boys are very clingy to their mums, but we will rise to the challenge and see what happens! We already have a name for him- Ben.

I also saw a consultant as I wanted to request a planned c-section, and he studied my notes from the last delivery, asked a few questions and said he had no problem with that if it was what we wanted, and we just need to go back at 36 weeks to check that I haven't changed my mind, and go through the technicalities. Section will probably be done at 39 weeks, which will be 25 June! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my mind although nearer the time I might start to worry about the operation.

Good luck to all of you with scans coming up soon.

Bye for now. Pulapula.

twoplusone · 20/02/2007 21:51

Hi all..

Those who have had scans glad all is well.
Pulapula- congrats on your baby boy..

Scan was ok today thought I was 19+2 but they have now put me back to 18weeks.. Now due the 23rd.. dont know why but it has upset me!!!!.. silly I know.. I am so hormonal.. it is unbelievable.. Ijust want to cry.. They couldnt tell the sex either as the babs was head down back to the screen and legs crossed..
I have been booked to see a speacialist on the 20th March for a doppler scan, then in April back to the hospital for my 28week scan.. although I will only be 26weeks but consultant wants to see me then.. I am feeling movement alot more now getting stonger everyday...

Is anyone else really weepy over anything..myfairone you sound like me at the moment.. the slightest little thing and I am in a mood.. DH doenst know what to do or say to me at the moment.... bless him...

I really feel for dd at the mo to as she is soo bored none of her friends have been to see her and as she cant put weight on her foot cant go out to play.. aftert he scan today we went aand had a look in Ikea, then food shopping her poor hands were bright red from being on the crutches..
She is back at the hospital on Friday for another xray to see if she can start to weight bare.. (as you can tell she didnt go back tot he Uk we have trf her flights for easter instead..)

Hope all thouse with colds etc are feeling better.

Welcome to the newbies...

AM hopoing things are going to calm down at home soon I need to chill out but it seems to be one thing after another.. Oh and dh isnt going to the states which is good.. (for me anyway.. but he really wanted to go as would look good on his yearly report...)

Thats enough waughling from me for now

Take care all .xx

Hi twoplusone,

I would have been upset too if my date was put back, as it means longer to wait.

With my DD, my date was put back 5 days, but I was adamant I was right, as I was familiar with my cycles and when we were baby-making so that date was unlikely! DD was still late, so had even longer to wait in the end.

I guess they might be able to tell the sex when you go for your 28 week scan?. I am glad I found out, but it does seem like a long time to wait now, so it will be exciting to know nearer to the due date.

I am not weepy- just grumpy and moody. DH has a really bad cough, and I am giving him no sympathy at all, as he wakes me up in the night with it, and I don't want to catch anything off him as I have only just started feeling better myself. Selfish, aren't I! I find myself kicking and pushing him in the night if he snores or coughs, as I need my sleep!

typhoonsmum · 21/02/2007 07:44

As to changing the dates by scan. In work we ALWAYS use the first scan dates as the due date as for some reason they more accurate when the baby is smaller. We only accept pregnant ladies on our ward up to 22 weeks and then they go to Maternity. We have had midwives refer ladies to us saying they are 21 weeks by scan but if you use the booking scan you find they are nearer 23 weeks. We checked with a doctor and they confirmed that the booking scan is more accurate for dating purposes than the 20 week one. So I wouldn't pay to much attention to being put back.

abgirl · 21/02/2007 09:32

Pulapula

Me, my bf and my sil have all had DSs who have been lovely contented babies and settled nicely into routines. My bf and 1 of my cousins also had DDs, who were more independent but also much more demanding babies - and have heard that teenage DSs are much easiers than teenage DDs! There are some benefits to lovely little boys - and congratulations!

Trimum2 · 21/02/2007 11:30

PulaPula - No.1 was a boy for me and I was dreading it as I have loads of sisters and no brothers. But he is great!!! I definitely wouldn't mind having another boy this time around even though at some point I would like to think I would have a daughter. But I am definitely a converted boy fan. He is very loving, great fun and easy going.

Did you have a c-section last time around?

Hi all,

Haven't been on for so long that I haven't time to catch up with all the msgs.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday although mw said I was 18.5 weeks and I know I'm 19 weeks but EDD still the same.

Really clear pictures and I said that we ABSOLUTLY did NOT want to know the sex of the baby. MW said unless it was a flasher which she couldn't do much about she would take that into consideration and it wasn't always possible to tell anyway.

Well 3rd baby and first time for having the nicest MW ever . She went through every litlle bit that she was scanning and clicking on and the best news was that I don't have a low lying placenta like I did with last two (even though it moved) so that was great.
The baby was so active dancing around all over the place with the clearest pictures i've seen.
So that'll hopefully be the one and only time that I have to go to hospital as I'm having another home birth.
Anyone else getting dead/crampy legs at night? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Hope you're all well

Big hugs

saf1 · 21/02/2007 15:14
