Morning all. Been MIA a bit as the unpacking of boxes and trips to the recycling to get rid of packaging and boxes seems never ending. Back at work Monday after the summer off so need to break the back of it this weekend.

Waiting on a builder friend to come Monday to give us a price for ripping out a fireplace and fitted wardrobe in the bedroom and haven't got any wardrobes until that works done. Gahhhhhhh.

divadee · 03/09/2016 08:18

keepingup also look at further education colleges. Where I work we have catering staff that are term time only and some are part time hours like 10am-2pm so good for drop off and pick up times.

Carly6971 · 03/09/2016 08:29

Argh!! Today is the day we find out pink or blue!! I think blue but if I could choose think I would pick pink lol! As long as all is ok with our little embaby that's the main thing! Roll on 2pm x

twocatsandatoddler · 03/09/2016 08:41

carly I really wanted a girl too, but wouldn't change DS for anything now. I would like a girl this time too, but I'm sure I'll be delighted with two sons Smile

Carly6971 · 03/09/2016 09:21

Evergreen17 · 03/09/2016 11:04

Wispa I am in museum education too Sad we will never be rich will we?

GeraldineSudsie · 03/09/2016 11:05

Hello, I've just signed up and am following this thread now. I really liked the advice re dressing babies etc. All new to me (1st baby) so it's good to hear others ideas and experiences

Evergreen17 · 03/09/2016 11:06

I also have a degree and masters in Science and a postgraduate and DH didnt go to uni but we earn the same.
I sometimes wonder why the "you must go to uni" feel when there are plenty of skills you can learn, and learn better on the job.
Maybe will remember this for my children Smile

mrschn · 03/09/2016 13:36

Ladies as you had such good input on the maternity/paternity debate, I was wondering if you know what the rules are about working occasionally whilst on Mat leave. I have been offered a great opportunity doing a bit of contract work, essentially a couple of days when baby will be 4-5 months. It would be fab for my CV so don't want to turn it down. With my employer I'm allowed to do 10 keeping in touch days before losing the right to Mat pay. I was wondering if that rule was my employers or a general mat pay rule? If it were a problem I could maybe waive my fee this year and just claim travel expenses. Might that be a way around do you think?

LondonGirl83 · 03/09/2016 13:37

Welcome Geraldine

LondonGirl83 · 03/09/2016 13:49

Ladies, unfortunately I've had a headache since Thursday evening that won't go away and isn't responding to paracetamol. NHS says to call my GP so have spoken to SELDOC and they want me to come in and be checked out at the local Dulwich branch at 3:30pm this afternoon.

My half-sister had very bad pre-eclampsia so I think they are just being cautious. She was pregnant with IVF twins and with a BMI over 30 with a host of pre-existing health problems and I'm none of those things.

Still better safe than sorry!

wispaxmas · 03/09/2016 14:41

Evergreen, nope, never Flowers maybe one day we might win the lottery, but we'll never get rich through our career, that's for sure!

twocatsandatoddler · 03/09/2016 15:22

london hope it's nothing serious, sometimes the hormones in pregnancy can cause headaches, but you're definitely doing the right thing by getting it checked out.

toBurpOrNotTo · 03/09/2016 15:22

I have been wondering if I would need to buy a car seat at all. My flat is not very big, & we don't drive around in London either. So just for the first trip from the hospital, I'm thinking if I can bring home the baby in a sling.
Has anyone had any similar experience ?

topmammy · 03/09/2016 15:25

I want to get out of teaching and was thinking about museum education haha! I know it's not paid well but is it enjoyable? I just want something less stressful, life's too short!

London Definitely best to get checked out. Hope all is ok.

mrschn I've only ever heard of the 10 KIT days while on maternity leave but have you looked on the acas website? Lots of info about employment law including maternity info m.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1411&q=Working+while+on+maternity+leave&go=Search

Welcome Geraldine Smile

ToBurp do you have any friends you could borrow a car seat from in case you wanted to taxi back from hospital? Agree it might not be worth buying and storing one if you're not going to use it, but you might not feel like getting public transport or walking after giving birth. I had an emergency c-section and wouldn't have been in any state to walk further than a few minutes - it was 3-4 weeks before I was able to walk the mile to town.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 03/09/2016 16:03

Just had an amazing moment and need to share. Me and dd1 (age 3, 4 in October) where having a cuddle. She was rubbing my belly, she loves doing it. Baby started moving around, at ingest movements I've felt yet. I placed her hand in the right spot but didn't tell her when baby was moving. Baby did an almighty kick/movement and dd looked at me and said 'mummy, that baby made.your belly move!" I could cry, what a moment Smile

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 03/09/2016 16:09

toburp I had a really.straight forward birth with my second but still would have not wanted to get public transport or walked longer than about 5-10 minutes. I second borrowing one for the day. I have heard that some taxi firms rent them to but don't really know details on this x

SkyLucy · 03/09/2016 16:18

Found you all! Crikey this group is chatty! Been quiet because I was in France last week and Germany now. Had my 16-wk MW app yesterday and heard the heartbeat, lovely! She said it sounded like a 'girly heartbeat'....I think it's a girl too, looking forward to finding out in four weeks!

Haven't bought a thing, still not decided when to take mat leave. Can't seem to gather any enthusiasm - perhaps because it still doesn't feel real?

Anyway, I'll stop broadcasting and keep trying to catch up. Hope you're all really well SmileFlowers

Dreamingoutloud7 · 03/09/2016 18:15

Hi ladies, our threads move so quickly here, just want to thank everyone for the clothing advice, I'm a little less lost than I was a few days ago with it!

Had an update on my job situation, it was a few threads ago that I discussed it so you probably won't remember, but found out today that I definitely have to take a transfer or immediate redundancy. Obviously I'm not going to choose the second so I will transfer locations and departments within the next 6 weeks probably.
Bit of a bummer, I don't know anyone is this new location and will only be there max 12 weeks before leaving for mat leave. Where I am right now is very small and everyone is so supportive and where I'm going is huge and it's over two locations. I'm a bit down about it all to be honest, just don't really want this right now.

Bisquick · 03/09/2016 20:21

Had the most underwhelming 16 week appointment and started crying as soon as we sat down in a coffee shop afterwards. I'm sure I'm being hormonal. But the midwife seemed so uninterested and the entire appointment lasted about 4 minutes. She took my blood pressure, tested urine for protein. And then when I pressed and asked for blood results from booking appointment she seemed surprised I hadn't seen them yet (when I called hospital 4 weeks after bloods they said to wait for MW appt) and then asked if I'd been re tested after antibiotics for UTI. I said no, GP said they don't do it as standard and she sighed because she'd already thrown urine away. And then said its probably gone with the antibiotics and sent me on my way. No Doppler until 24 weeks.

Sorry for the long rant. Is this normal? Am I being too unreasonable to expect something more? Is there more care/contact as the pregnancy progresses? Do you think weekend midwives are just overworked and therefore brusque?

topmammy · 03/09/2016 20:43

From what I can remember last time the 16week appointment is pretty brief really yes bisquick. Sorry you felt sad about how it went. I'm sure if the MW had been a bit chirpier it might have made you feel better about the whole thing, try not to take it to heart Smile.

Do you have your notes? It should have a page for your blood results in there. They stuck a copy of my results in when I saw the MW after my 12week scan. It's maybe different in other areas though.

Shellbell0403 · 03/09/2016 20:44

bisquick mine was quite similar.... no hb until 24 weeks also xx

LondonGirl83 · 03/09/2016 20:57

dreaming sorry about the job situation- it tough when so much else is changing.

bisquick sounds like your mw has lost the love for her job. Everyone I've encountered so far has been lovely including at Seldoc today

Thanks to those wishing me well. It's nothing too serious though I do now have a prescription for codeine laced paracetamol 😁

I'm going to hold off using it until Monday to see if it goes away by itself

Pudding01 · 03/09/2016 21:00

Wow thread 7 already! Shock I've only been gone a week hehe Good on you ladies.

I had my 16 week scan on Thursday and she just took my blood pressure & a urine sample... Still haven't heard a heartbeat yet Sad

How are you all feeling?? I finally have a bump! Yayyyyy.
