Vixx, it's because of the increase in cases of whooping cough in recent years. By getting the jab when you're pregnant the immunity if passed on to the foetus to keep them safe until they can have the jab at 8 weeks. There was a whooping cough outbreak near me in SE London back when I was pregnant with DD, so I definitely had it then and see no reason not to have it again this time, even though I did seem to have a worse reaction than some to it and my arm hurt for over a month and had a pea-sized hard lump under the skin at the injection site for weeks!

wispaxmas · 20/09/2016 21:54

If you want to read more info about it, this is a good brief overview: vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/pertussis-whooping-cough

Mysterycat23 · 20/09/2016 22:07

twocats congratulations!

Scan today went well and we are also team blue!!

Not heard about the flu and whooping cough vaccinations.. is it only in specific areas of the UK these are offered? Do you automatically get them or do you have to specifically request them? Are there any other vaccinations that I need to ask for? If I leave it to ask at 25 wk appt will that be too late?

Shellbell0403 · 20/09/2016 22:20

Brad and angelina are getting divorced 😮 I know it's not preg related...

twocatsandatoddler · 20/09/2016 22:44

This is our littlest boy Grin. Wasn't going to get a pic, but I'm glad we did.

Congrats Mystery!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 20/09/2016 23:04

Aww big congrats to this who've had scans and also found out whether pink or blue!

I'm not finding our either sausagw had my scan yesterday and she turned the screen away so I couldn't peak haha!

I'm due 3rd of Feb so there's a chance I could have a January baby (I've had one at 38+5 and one at 40+5) but there's no way I'm leaving this group!

twocatsandatoddler · 20/09/2016 23:08

keeping we'd have been in trouble if we didn't want to find out as the first place the midwife put the scanner we could see what was quite clearly a scrotum staring us in the face! Even more blatant than with DS when we both thought we might have seen something.

LondonGirl83 · 20/09/2016 23:59

Divadee definitely overwhelmed by our list as this is our first. Its not just the buying but the assembly and figuring out how it all works too...

Sausage andd twocats lovely scan photos

wispa I remember the whooping cough outbreak here in SE London because my doctor thought I might have it. I didn't go into work because of the risk it poses to babies to young to immunised.

Mystery my gp wrote to me about both vaccinations. I know all pregnant women are entitled to priority flu shots across the country. I'm not sure if whopping cough is just a London thing because of the previous outbreak. I suggest you ring your GP and book in for the flu shot and at the same time ask about whooping

LondonGirl83 · 21/09/2016 00:02

Shell when I saw the divorce news I called my DH (we speak a few times during the day anyhow). He told me someone interrupted a meeting he was in at work to tell his team the news which seems quite extreme! Still I think a lot of people are surprised.

I always feel horrible when I hear anyone is getting a divorce. Its the end of a dream.

LondonGirl83 · 21/09/2016 00:05

I should add I hope the media coverage isn't too invasive. Its really no one's business and I can't imagine how much harder a divorce must be under public scrutiny.

Evergreen17 · 21/09/2016 07:09

Diva I started the list too but mine is probably tiny compared to others Confused we are pretty minimal here so getting the basics and if more is needed when bubba is here then we'll get it.
For example all I am getting is a cot that will turn into a bed and a sleepy head. The cot will be next to me then in the nursery. We are not getting a pram, I am planning on breastfeeding so not buying prep machines for the moment (very aware breastfeeding could not work)
And the clothes are coming from presents mostly and some knitted and then I'll buy some more

Ok anyone here has discovered the JOY of leg cramps and restless leg syndrome aka legs shaking involuntarily all night? Apparently 1 in5 will get it and it can start from week 19
Here I am. 19+2, the 1 in 5 Sad

Mystery another boy for the thread! Smile congrats
Twocats too cute!!! Lol at scrotum Grin

Mysterycat23 · 21/09/2016 07:13

Thanks London will do!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 21/09/2016 07:26

Eek 20 week scan this morning! Slightly nervous but excited at the same time.

MarjorySunshineDust · 21/09/2016 07:35

evergreen Yes to the restless legs! I had it last time too. Luckily mine is in the evenings so I can still sleep at night, but makes relaxing in the evening difficult!

Evergreen17 · 21/09/2016 07:44

Marjory I get like tingling on my leg that doesnt stop, is this what it is? Nothing I can do about it?

Evergreen17 · 21/09/2016 07:48

Ifatfirst good luck!! So jealous Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 21/09/2016 07:54

Evergreen that sounds sensible, I didn't buy anything for in case breastfeeding didn't work last time, and when DS didn't latch on and needed expressed milk, DH was able to pop out and quickly get the bottles and steriliser and everything else we needed from Boots, so I'd suggest waiting until you see what you need if you don't want to buy too much stuff. My hospital provides sterilisers, breast pumps and bottles etc so even if formula feeding from birth the only thing you'd need to pack in hospital bag is some pre-made formula.

In any case, I wouldn't recommend the Perfect Prep machine from birth anyway as it's recommended that newborns have the pre-made bottles at first as they're sterile and easier on the stomach. The prep machine only makes 4oz minimum and if you used for newborns you'd end up throwing so much away! I'm also not 100% convinced of their bacteria killing abilities for the smaller amounts as the amount of hot water dispensed is so small I think it would cool too quickly when mixed with the powder, so for tiny ones I'd still err on the side of caution and use a kettle. We did have one though as I combination fed DS from 1 month and he lost interest in the breast at 5 months, and we used it daily from about 4 months to a year!

Vixxfacee · 21/09/2016 08:28

Good luck for your scan IF Smile

Evergreen are you planning on getting a sling instead of a pram? I am really begrudging thinking about a pram as the expense is ridiculous but hopefully in the January sales can pick up a bargain.

divadee · 21/09/2016 08:35

evergreen I am doing the same as you. A cot bed and a sleepyhead. I will have a carrycot with the pushchair for daytime naps if needed. So I am not buying a crib or Moses basket.

I have got a perfect prep as I know I am formula feeding. So already have the steriliser and bottles that I got on offer last week.

Still have a bloody massive list though!

GinIsIn · 21/09/2016 08:50

OOOH just realised my scan is next Thursday not Friday - one day less to wait! Grin

We have a Moses basket for downstairs as I got one on eBay for £9, and are planning to put a snuzpod in our room as there's no room for a cot, and have a proper cot in the nursery. We will probably transition the baby to the nursery at 3-4 months as I know from my nieces and nephews babies are noisy sleepers, and my DH is a serious snorer so I think any longer in the same room and we will probably drive each other crazy! We bought the full on baby monitor that tracks movement and breathing so I am less worried about not waiting until 6 months.

FriendlyGhost · 21/09/2016 08:54

I still seem to have a big list even though I have most things already. Quite a lot is for dd as she will be moving bedrooms. Kids are expensive! On top of that I need to start thinking about dd's birthday and Christmas. They're very close together and I expect I'll start to get questions from grandparents in the next few weeks.
Good luck ifatfirst. Are you going to find out the sex?
Only two days until my scan now. I'm starting to get butterflies when I think about it!

kikisdelivery · 21/09/2016 09:14

Oooh good luck ifatfirst! I'm like you Friendly - two days to go and while I'm getting more excited, I'm also getting more nervy/eeeep about it!

I have a list too Grin. I can't remember who suggested the headings of Hospital/feeding/sleeping/clothes etc, but I took those and have made myself a Google docs sheet with some sample links of stuff I like from different online shops, plus prices.

If I got literally everything new for hospital, for example, I worked out it'd be £100 - but that's starting from absolute scratch with no clothes for the bub, no blankets for the car seat, boob cream and pads, sanitary pads, a bottle/formula for if it won't boob feed, and so on - mainly because I have no idea what the hospital might provide, but I assumed not a lot. So basically anything and everything which went on the list in a brain dump! I will obviously be getting quite a lot of that stuff over the next few weeks in plenty of time Smile rather than in one massive rush the week before!

kikisdelivery · 21/09/2016 09:15

I'm also definitely finding out sex, if I have a compliant bub of course! There's no way I could wait for another 20 weeks to find out.... I really admire you ladies with patience, I have absolutely zero!

Vixxfacee · 21/09/2016 09:30

I am getting a next to me crib and the sleepy head. Then a cot bed once he grows out.

What prams are everyone getting?
