I've been emailing the people at nct to look at which course is best for me, they have been very helpful and always reply quickly. I didn't want to book up until after first scan and they have a reserved a space for me until after this with no deposit.

Dustycorners · 04/09/2016 19:27

Another one here still getting wiped out with tiredness at times. Also some horrible headaches. Today I had a headache, took some paracetamol and thought I'd lie down for half an hour... woke up 3 hours later Blush Thank goodness DH is here to look after DS.

I didn't do NCT last time as I couldn't justify the cost. I did a free session at my hospital (UCLH) and a free breast feeding session there too. Both were good.

I thought I might do a NCT refresher course this time in order to meet local families as we moved recently. I thought that being second baby we wouldn't have much to buy so I could justify the expense, but now it's twins we have more stuff to get than anticipated, so I might have to forego it again. Oh well, doubt I'll be out socialising much post-birth anyway!

ItsMagicYouKnow · 04/09/2016 20:11

Evening all!

So sorry for worn, but don't think she's following anymore Sad

Er, crazy question, but has anyone felt anything yet in the baby area?

I'm only 12+5, but have been feeling "movement" for a few days, but put it down to wind Blush which I also have a lot of, incidentally. I'm lying on my back on the sofa after dinner, and I've just SEEN something move across my bump Hmm Surely wind couldn't do that?? For info, I'm slim and started feeling DS, or at least, suspecting, at around 14 weeks if my memory serves me right, and OH felt it at 16 I think.

alphabook · 04/09/2016 20:44

That does sound early Magic, but definitely possible considering you felt your first child move so early and it's supposed to be even earlier the second time round.

Wow I didn't realise it was so expensive. I'm not sure I can justify spending over £200 when we have so much baby stuff to buy.

SuperDuperJezebel · 04/09/2016 21:01

I'm 14+2 and haven't felt anything yet but now I know it's coming soon, I'm excited to!

Dustycorners · 04/09/2016 21:08

Magic that sounds very early for ^seeing^ something as the baby is buried quite deep at this stage (could be wind or your pulse, maybe??), but I definitely think you could be feeling something now, especially as it's not your first and you felt it early last time. Exciting!

I first felt DS at 14 weeks - it started out like bubbles and was subtle but distinct. This time I've been feeling 'vibrations' and rapid flutters very deep in my pelvis for a couple of weeks now, if not a bit longer (14 weeks today). I have to pay attention to distinguish it from wind, but it's definitely baby/babies. Before I had my scan I was sure I could feel it, but thought I must be wrong, however finding out there are two in there meant it made more sense - they obviously have less room, even if they are tiny!

The thing is, it's still so sporadic that when it doesn't happen for a while, I worry like mad, which is totally irrational. It was such a relief last time to get to the point where movements were frequent and reliable (23 weeks-ish).

Baby movements (before they become uncomfortable) are one of the true joys of pregnancy Smile

ItsMagicYouKnow · 04/09/2016 21:23

Baby movements are definitely the best part for me, probably why I'm telling myself it's the baby and not just wind! I used to feel a baby moving long after DS was born. Apparently it's physically possible to start feeling your organs shifting slightly postpartum when before pregnancy you wouldn't have been tuned into it. Bodies are weird!

cyclinggirl22 · 04/09/2016 21:38

We've been looking into NCT classes too, it's really expensive but think we are going to go for it. No NHS classes in my area and would really like to do classes as its our first. Also I'm new to my area so hopefully will be good for making friends

Newbie7077 · 04/09/2016 22:11

I'm really struggling with lower back pain. Does anyone know if this is how pelvic girdle pain starts to manifest itself? It feels nerve related

Dustycorners · 04/09/2016 22:56

Newbie I think lower back pain does not necessarily become PGP/SPD. My SPD last time started as groin pain. Sciatic pain is common in pregnancy, so it could be that?

I was reading something today that said if you have lower back pain you should always sit with lower back supported, be alert to your posture when sitting and standing, avoid wearing heels and pushing your pelvis forward, and rest lying down when you can (as well as usual avoid heavy lifting, etc). Also to lie on your side with a pillow/cushion between your knees to keep your hips/pelvis/back aligned (I always sleep like this during pregnancy as I am prone to pelvic pain - pregnancy pillows are great, but any old pillow will do).

Newbie7077 · 05/09/2016 07:12

Thanks dusty that's really helpful. I've had to take today off work because I know I will have to lie down loads. I feel bad but I haven't taken any sickness days since I got pregnant so I'm hoping it's OK. It's just a continuous dull ache which turns into shooting pains when I bend over. Sad

SuperDuperJezebel · 05/09/2016 07:20

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive pregnancy pillow? You know the long ones that you snuggle? Bit early but I already think it would help me sleep better. Slept til 6.15 today instead of 5am for the first time in about a week, and only woke twice in the night, so I feel amazing!

Dustycorners · 05/09/2016 07:25

I have a dream genie. It's not cheap but it's very good.

charlybs · 05/09/2016 07:40

I'm doing the NCT essentials course (or was it signature? Lol) mainly because I know no one in my local area. Perks of being a forces partner :/ Everyone has babies here so hoping it will give me talking points with the neighbours.

Yeah so climbing a mountain did not help my lower back pain, duh. going to look into pregnancy yoga and probably have to go to a chiropractor as well or something as I'm in a fair bit of pain.

charlybs · 05/09/2016 07:41

Oh and scan tomorrow at 11!

NameChange30 · 05/09/2016 09:19

Good luck to charly Rosey and anyone else having a scan today!

I have a Mothercare Sleep Plus Body Pillow which is pretty comfy so far, and I'm sure I'll appreciate it more when I have a bigger bump.

I have a Theraline, which has been immensely useful over the last three years: pregnancy, early breastfeeding, later breastfeeding as a back rest, bumper pillow when DS is sleeping in our bed... It's never been put away, so definitely got my money's worth! Prefer beans over stuffing personally, it's more flexible.

Today started well, got up super early (OK, 15 mins earlier than normal) to take DS to childminder's and get to the Dr's by 9... for an appointment booked for tomorrow morning Blush

Good luck for today's scans!

charlybs · 05/09/2016 10:02

I have the mothercare pillow too! Trying to persuade my DH to move over in the bed so I can actually use it is another matter though Grin

Carolann8584 · 05/09/2016 10:04

Scan tomorrow as well Charlybs Are you as excited/nervous as me? mines and 2:10

Loving my new pants for work! elastic waist Smile soooooo comfy

SuperDuperJezebel · 05/09/2016 10:43

Thanks for the pillow recommendations, will look them all up! On my way to the hospital for the consultant appt and I'm going to be about 40 min early, typical! Plenty of time to do some research I guess!

NameChange30 · 05/09/2016 11:01

charly LOL, I have the same problem with making room for the pillow in bed - we have a king size but we've used to spreading out!
Just realised that your scan is tomorrow, not today... Doh! Well not long now!

Has anyone been checking their BP? I suffer from irregular BP but the past few days it been low, today 110/66 is that normal?

SuperDuperJezebel · 05/09/2016 11:50

Mine is high, but on medication it's about 120ish/80. I'd speak to your midwife.

Got all the way to the hospital for an appointment that they've managed to book on the wrong day. The consultant only does clinics on a Wednesday pm. With cabs and tube fares and my boss paying for cover that's the best part of 50 quid wasted for me to travel into central London and back, for no reason. Had to try really hard not to cry and have just eaten a packet of crisps to cheer myself up.

charlybs · 05/09/2016 12:17

Carolann yes very excited! I want to see it not looking like a small broad bean haha, as that's all it was at 7 weeks. Unfortunately DH can't come as he has an exam so I'm taking the MIL instead.

Namechange haha it's not long :) close enough!

SpanielLedWeaning · 05/09/2016 12:24

carolann your BP reading is normal for me but I usually read slightly low. I think it's all relative so if you are normally much higher then it'd be worth phoning your midwife for advice.
