Milky we took ds to our first one. But he was only 5 months. I would potty take dd ( who's 20 months) if she's in a good mood.

Hasn't ever take. Us long. You go in, they ask you questions about why you're there, what kind of bleeding, when etc, send you for scan, get scanned, and back to epu where they talk you through the scan results.

It's more waiting around than in the actual appointments. Though if your hospital is anything like mine they'll have toys in all the waiting areas.

We book in at 8-10 weeks. With ds I didn't have blood test at booking in - because it was 4pm on a Friday so my blood would've been there till Monday. So they did the whole lot at hospital on scan day.

With dd they did it at booking in. Then just the ones that go with scan at the hospital I think.

So I ended up in hospital last night Blush because to save dd from burning herself on some literally just out of the pan gravy I knocked her back and tried to stop it and it landed on my wrist ShockConfused sitting in minor injuries for 3 hours in the most uncomfortable chair ever, with a burnt wrist and gradually getting more hungry and sick wasn't fun.

Luckily The kids stayed at PiLs while dh took me, then he went back to take the kids to bed, then PiLs just sat round ours until we got back Blush

I hope your arm is ok Lotsa

jpeg28 · 22/08/2016 09:00

Oh no lotsa I hope you're arm is ok!!

milky when I've been to EPU it's in 3 stages, first I see a nurse who does history and urine test, then scan, then doctor who does bloods and discusses scan. Where mine is it's a pretty tiny room with not a lot of space for anything but the many times I've been in I've seen people with children in there. Like lotsa said the appointments are short it's the waiting around. Good luck X

cantmakeme · 22/08/2016 09:13

Hope all scans ok today.
Mine's at 11. Just fingers crossed it's not ectopic again, it was enough to put me off for a couple of years. I don't think I would try again if it is. I have a lovely five year old daughter and don't want all the stress and worry.

Number4OnTheWay · 22/08/2016 09:25

Our epau is in 3 stages too, you see a midwife, back in the waiting room, have a scan, back in the waiting room and then back into midwife. Its taken anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours before. It really depends on how many people they are seeing and the sort of news they have to break to them. They are amazing at my clinic though and if it's bad news instead of going back into the waiting room they put you in a special room and have a specially trained midwife come and talk to you. Obviously the next person can't be scanned till that room is empty though, and they are never in a rush to usher people out which is lovely.

TopKittyKat · 22/08/2016 09:27

I'm getting stabbing pains every now and then in my abdomin. It will be a quick pain lasting a few seconds and then it goes. I'm hoping it's just stretching pains.

Does anyone else get this? I'm 6+2.

marmitecheesetoast · 22/08/2016 09:27

Fx for all those with scans and appointments today.

I sicked up what was luckily mainly just ginger tea all over the table with no warning when I sat down for breakfast this morning Sad think I need to accept I'm probably no longer going to feel like natural yogurt and homemade sugar-free granola for breakfast in the mornings Hmm may have to cave in and buy white bread for toast.. Was so scared I was going to be sick again on the bus to work but so far ok

Number4OnTheWay · 22/08/2016 09:28

Thinking of everyone with scans today, its so nerve wracking Sad good luck xx

Number4OnTheWay · 22/08/2016 09:30

Topkitty yes!!! I've had it every time but always forget till it starts again. Its quite painful and is occasional. You are not alone! I've seen a midwife in the past and been told it's just stretching pain xx

Number4OnTheWay · 22/08/2016 09:31

Blush I think I use too many kisses for mumsnet! Blush I don't mean to, I will get out of that habit asap!

TopKittyKat · 22/08/2016 09:33

Thanks Number4. That's reassuring to know.

Ooh poor you marmite. That doesn't sound fun at all!

Good luck with the scans ladies. I'll have fingers and toes crossed for you all.

marmitecheesetoast · 22/08/2016 09:43

I am now surreptitiously eating water biscuits at my desk Grin

I've been having that too topkitty I'm 6+1. Sounds like we're at similar stage! Reassuring to know other people having similar symptoms

ChatEnOeuf · 22/08/2016 09:44

Ouch, Lotsa, hope it's okay.

Good luck for those with scans today. I would struggle to amuse DD for the duration of the process - each time I've been (and there have been a few!), it's been anything from 2hrs-5hrs. I've had her with me once, and while it was a distraction from the horribleness, I felt under double pressure to keep her quiet and not to show her how stressed and upset I was. The better the outcome, the shorter the time you're in, though.

Luchi I'm also too superstitious to add myself to the list. Or to call the MWs. Same will go for any FB group - maybe later.

I'm drinking pints and pints of purple squash. I manage two half-cups of tea a day. I find I really want some, but then once it's no longer scalding hot I don't like it anymore.

TopKittyKat · 22/08/2016 09:59

marmite - it's nice to have people at the same stage Grin

As a first timer I'm finding the advice and support on here so reassuring!

jobrum · 22/08/2016 10:03

Good luck to everyone with scans coming up soon. Smile

My booking appointment last time was around ten weeks I think. We have to make an appointment with the GP first, they make an appointment for you with the practice midwife. No blood tests are done at our booking appointments, they are all done at the hospital at the 12 week scan. I think I have to contact the hospital directly to book the scan, can’t remember that. I have the choice of two very close hospitals where I am (the QE and City). I will again be opting for City which got me no end of grief last time as the QE is the place everyone goes to give birth, it just is. But when I looked into it, City had really low intervention rates, better patient scores for aftercare, more likely to have one midwife with you for the whole of labour, every birthing suit room has a pool etc. I actually went to their off-site birth centre which was just lovely but unfortunately had to be transferred to the delivery ward (worst ambulance ride ever) because of meconium and then had my placenta manually removed and stayed in for blood transfusions. But the care was excellent, from arriving to leaving so I will happily be going there again. Which? Website has an excellent section to compare where to give birth, really is worth signing up for the £1 trial (and then paying whatever a month because you keep forgetting to cancel it)Blush

I am still eating soft and raw eggs due to the risk of salmonella being so low. As long as I know the eggs are from the UK, I eat them. What did surprise me is the risk of salmonella from bagged salad, it’s more likely to have salmonella than eggs. So I avoid that and if I we do have any in the fridge, I only eat it if its completely fresh. I did cut down on coffee last time (did really go off it for the first few months anyway) but realised I replaced it with many cups of tea which I developed a taste for so I’m not too worried about the caffeine now!

Yes, sharp twinges and stuff starting again. Really feels like things are stretching.

StripeyFox · 22/08/2016 10:03

Good luck to those having scans today, thinking of you all.

My scan is not until 30 September but I'm seriously considering caving and paying for a private one. The EPAU where I am doesn't allow you to bring children with you, presumably because of the sensitive nature of it all - I think it makes sense but must make it v difficult for some people. Rather than seeing three people though, you see one midwife sonographer who takes a history, scans and discusses results/plans. So its pretty quick. Everything is so different in different places isn't it!

For those of you worrying about lack of symptoms- I had absolutely none for my whole pregnancy last time, I felt totally normal. Its definitely easier to enjoy once you're past the incredibly anxious first trimester though! I'm peeved I'm having symptoms this time of extreme fatigue and nausea. I guess it'd be too good to be true to get off as lightly as last time again.

jobrum · 22/08/2016 10:09

Sorry long post! Typing at my desk at work, didn't notice how long it was getting!

Jaffacakes1234 · 22/08/2016 10:16

If possible I wouldn't take children with me, I think it says they aren't allowed at my hospital but I have seen people taking them. I for sure wouldn't take my 4year old or 5 year old with me ( they don't even know im pregnant!) if I really had to I'd take my 16 month old, as he wouldn't know what the fuss was about but I also think incase anything is wrong or just so I can absorb the scan I'd much much prefer to go without him Smile

BertieBotts · 22/08/2016 10:37

Grin Number4 you must do squats every time you accidentally type a kiss!

(Only joking!)

Uggggh I feel so restless today. I think I have drunk too much coffee (just one - but not eaten yet.)

It's just because I have to make phone calls which I don't like doing. I need to call the holiday club first to see if I can get DS in for the next week or two. I think I'm just going to wait to phone the women's clinic. There's nothing to gain from calling yet and while I feel impatient I don't want to go in too early anyway.

DS has a giant list of equipment he needs for school but at least I understand what it says this year :)

jpeg28 · 22/08/2016 10:42

Good luck to everyone with scans today... Thinking of you all Flowers

Muffin7 · 22/08/2016 10:56

Thinking of everyone going for scans today.

Is anybody else constantly exhausted? I'm 9wks tomorrow and have a 4 month old and am just so tired. Yesterday I went to bed at 9pm, got up to feed the little man at 5am and then put him down again until 8am but I could still head upstairs now for a nap!

summerskittles91 · 22/08/2016 10:59

Hey everyone! Good luck to all of you waiting for scans, I've been there and it can be nerve wracking.

Finally caught up with weekend posts.

Does anyone feel constantly sick unless they're eating?! all I've done is eat since I've got to work. And now I don't feel good at all Hmm

WindyTriller · 22/08/2016 11:06

I'm 6+5 and constantly nauseous unless I am asleep or constantly nibbling at stuff like crisps. Was the same with DS1 but don't remember it being this early on. I had HG last time which started around week 10 and am dreading that happening again Confused

Strubo · 22/08/2016 11:42

I'm 7+6 and if I'm not eating I feel sick. It's driving me mad, I'm so bloated as well, people are going to notice soon! It's my third so I guess I will start to show earlier? I have my booking in appointment in Wednesday which I'm looking forward to as I'm hoping it'll start to make things feel real!
