Shell I'm exactly the same - we have a pram/travel system, but literally only because it was a bargain for sale through someone at work!

I'm also sort of waiting for the 20 week scan before going mad with the bank cards...

DottyA · 01/09/2016 16:35

Well, having said I wasn't buying anything, I just bought a Victoria Slinglady stretchy wrap on ebay!

I do (sort of) have a justification though - I had a look into slings and decided I'd like a wrap for the first few months. Hers seemed to get great reviews and be super cheap - but her website's disappeared. I thought I'd better grab the only one on ebay while I could. A half-price bargain at £10.

Carly6971 · 01/09/2016 16:35

All this talk of shopping has made me feel j need to confess....I am a baby shopaholic!! It's so nice knowing that finally this time it's for my baby, I don't have to give it away to anyone. I have literally already gone mad!! I have everything from perfect prep machines to Moses baskets! Baths to so many toys we had to make an emergency ikea dash this morning to buy a storage unit for what will be bubbas play room!! We find out gender on Saturday and I am itching to hit next and baby baker!!! Help!!! I will need to remortgage at this rate lol!! Keep telling myself after years of infertility that it's ok to splurge.....right???

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 16:36

One place I've discovered recently that I didn't even know did kids clothes is Zara. Not sure how much stuff they have for tiny babies, but I definitely noticed some mint green and yellow sleepsuits on the boys section of their website for those looking for gender neutral.

It's great for toddler clothes though, I've bought DS some great jumpers in interesting colours like mustard and emerald green - most boys stuff is blue and it gets a bit boring. The quality seems ok, especially the knitwear.

Shell I’m not planning on buying big things until after the 20 week scan though I am not superstitious.

I figure, what will be will be and I’ve got a lot to get on with over the next 23 weeks!

I think I’ve tackled baby clothes first because (a.) I’m fussy and (b.) it seemed the simplest. The jargon certainly has thrown me though.

I still need to get bibs, bottles for expressing, electric pump, blankets, play mat, bedding, cot, crib, toys, bouncer, baby bath, baby toiletries, towels, diaper bag, baby monitor, night light, books, decorations and practical things for the nursery (diaper bin, laundry basket etc), pram, sling, car seat.

Now that I’m getting bigger I also need maternity clothes, new bras (I need to get measured- my nipples are hanging out of my low cut bras ), eventually nursing bras, breast pads (I don’t even know what these are Confused

A lot of this crap I’ll need to learn to use, or assemble, and I need to figure out where the big stuff is going to be stored in our house (it will require us throwing away some of our crap)!

I also need to decorate the nursery and learn some basic stuff about postpartum life like how to bathe a newborn and you know basically how to keep a baby alive Smile

Even starting now, I look at this list and I think about how busy I’m going to be at work from next week and I think I’ll maybe get through 50% of it before the baby gets here. I’m just hoping to learn enough of this thread from the veteran mom’s to keep my daughter from overheating, freezing, not being strapped in properly etc. until I can catch up!

Shellbell0403 · 01/09/2016 17:07

London How's your bump coming along? Mine (although looks like flab but hard) seems smaller today! I also need to go and get measured.. hate it! Haha..

I also need to learn all that too!! Think il buy a doll and some nappies to practice, lol xx

Shellbell0403 · 01/09/2016 17:09

Gap also has some lovely baby clothes 😀

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 17:26

Shell its funny you ask about my bump. When I went to pregnancy pilates on Tuesday, a girl I do spinning with who I haven’t seen in 2 months bumped into me and said I looked skinny (I’ve lost 13lbs due to ms) and that she couldn’t see my bump. My pilates instructor also said I wasn’t showing, though I knew I was but I think only my DH and I could see it.

However, two people looked at me at work today and immediately asked me point blank if I was pregnant!

My bump has 100% popped since yesterday. Even in loose clothing I now look unmistakably pregnant. Its crazy. I was hoping to get to the 20 week scan without announcing to the world but that is absolutely impossible unless its just an episode of massive bloat.

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 17:29

I bought a cute babygrow from Gap. One thing I was looking at there sold out before I bought it which I think is part of the reason I just decided to get the newborn to 3 months shopping over with. Most stores have just released their autumn winter stuff. There will be sales after Christmas and I might top up on one or two things then but by the time the baby comes, it will mostly be Spring / Summer clothes in stores.

I figure I'll ask friends and family who want to buy clothes to get 3-6 month stuff from the new collections that will be just out then.

topmammy · 01/09/2016 17:30

I got a few bits from Zara when DD was around 9 months old - I don't know about anyone else but I find their sizes to come up quite small so I'd size up. I discovered John Lewis babygrows a bit later on but found they were lovely. The quality of Jojo sleepsuits is also excellent, although they do come up a bit wide. I also haven't kept much in the way of supermarket clothes but it's good to have some cheaper ones in the mix.

Anyone else got a ring sling? I've got an Oscha one, it's lovely. I would like to get a more structured carrier as well though and a stretchy for the newborn stage.

Just something else you might want to add to your list London if you breastfeed - lasinoh nipple cream Grin. I found the lasinoh breast pads to be the best brand too. The cheaper versions just weren't up to the job for me. I even tried washable breastpads but found they somehow stuck to my nipples a bit. Ouch.

I am so tired today! I pray to the Sleep Gods that DD will go to bed without fuss tonight and before 9pm (Pretty pleeease Halo)

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 17:56

Yeah Zara comes up small - DS is 20 months but is getting to the end of the18-24 month stuff I bought from there. He's quite big for his age though.

I love John Lewis stuff, I only get vests from there. I find their tops come up small but their trousers last for ages. Vests and sleep suits are true to size in my experience.

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 18:10

Also agree Jojo sleep suits are lovely but I can't bring myself to pay £15 for a single sleep suit when they grow so quickly so I only buy them as gifts for others.

I mainly get JL sleep suits but I had some M&S ones I liked too. Not found any vests to match JL for quality though, and their multi-packs are not bad value.

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 18:24

Top I am planning to breastfeed. I dare not ask why I’ll need nipple cream Shock !

Shellbell0403 · 01/09/2016 18:28

london I have heard nipples can become sore and cracked when breastfeeding

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 18:31

Oh yes, definitely get Lansinoh! I don't even want to think about the state my nipples were in last time Confused

topmammy · 01/09/2016 18:49

The nipple cream is good for soothing your nipples while they toughen up. I never use it now though, haven't for ages. The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be pretty sore but once you're over that hurdle it gets so much easier. My breastfeeding survival kit includes nipple cream, breast pads, nipple shields just in case, lasinoh heat/cold packs (soothes engorgement), and loads of (mostly healthy Halo snacks) All the snacks!! Grin And loads of films/TV box sets/ books as you'll be sat down a lot. Though this time I will somehow need to run around after DD and breastfeed at the same time Shock

CarolineSecretan · 01/09/2016 18:54

Thank you twocats

Mrssch and wispa I've used a connecta and we both absolutely loved it but it was hired from a sling library so didn't have it all the time! I'll keep my eye out for a Tula and check it out if I can!

I realise the conversation has probably moved on.

Is anyone one else feeling totally out of it? I'm so out of the loop atm I wasn't like this last time and I hope it doesn't last!

Sunshineface123 · 01/09/2016 19:00

Hi all, lots of good advice re clothes! Do the vests do up under neath?

My first day back at work and lots of bump rubbing today. Didn't mind was nice everyone was excited!

Shattered now though!

SpinALittleFaster · 01/09/2016 19:03

I've got a connecta and just bought a toddler one too. I do back carries so it's still comfortable.

I don't plan on buying anything until well after the 20 week scan.

I agree that poppers in funny places are evil. My husband still moans when I put DD in a diagonal poppered sleepsuit even though she's only in them for bed. You need to undo the whole thing for a nappy change which is a pain.

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 19:05

So after nipples toughen up from breast feeding are they less sensitive in general? I kind of like my nipples as they are Blush

CeeCeeEnnEss · 01/09/2016 19:11

I'm with you london, this stuff is freaking me RIGHT out!!

My poor, lovely nipples...

topmammy · 01/09/2016 19:26

Oh sorry, not "toughen up" in a hugely literal sense. They won't become like tough pieces of leather with no feeling don't worry Grin. I just mean toughen up in the sense that they won't feel sore after a feeding session. Think of it like nipple initiation or something lol. My nips don't look exactly the same as they did before but I'm still breastfeeding I guess. It's also a myth that breastfeeding gives you saggy boobs, it's pregnancy that does that if it is going to happen to you at all.

Shellbell0403 · 01/09/2016 19:26

I'm with you all too!!

BTW has heartburn kicked in for anyone?? Mine is so sore sometimes 😑

Readyfortwo · 01/09/2016 19:27

I'm pretty sure mine went back to normal London....and quicker than my other lady parts! I started using lanisoh a few weeks before birth (advice from someone on here I think), it meant that by the time baby was here they were primed & ready for action having had a regular massage every night! I barely used any after the first week & didn't have any probs with cracked/sore nipples.
