Shell I am feeling more positive
Everything crossed for heartbeat today
Not as nervous as for 12 weeks scan that was awful

Also met manager and senior manager about maternity leave and adjustments to the role and they were so cool about it and I am very happy at work now Smile

Sleep wise... Dreams. All sorts. All the time.

Scoty I had to use the hairband to tie my shorts yesterday so today I am back to my stretchy skirt. Best item I own
I only see pros of finding out the sex Grin but this is how I feel, it is a personal thing, some people like the surprise Smile
I am an impatient person if ever there was one.

Regarding clothes London I am defo not a blue/ pink person. Mostly because I hate pink. But also because I dislike certain gender specific stuff such as dolls vs cars blah blah. However, I have managed to get some nice clothes, in white, red, grey, and baby blue. I really like yellow and green but mum was paying for the stuff and she refused Hmm Mum and I are completely different skin shade Grin so we have a different taste in colour for clothes, she doesnt realise that bubba wont have (most likely) her skin (it is mine mum! Grin) and also mum it is a bubba!!!

I got a bundle of clothes from eBay for £3. A few vests and a cardi, well chuffed Grin

Scoty I am a bit disappointed with the what to expect book. So much of the stuff doesnt apply to me and now only a paragraph to read week by week but some good advice for closer and after birth I think

London so what is the difference between sleep suit/ play suit and the rest? Blush

What is a babygro Ready? When do we use them?!!!

Evergreen17 · 01/09/2016 08:10

Regarding clothes, our bubbas will be born in February, cold! So even more confusing
Because I have 6 vests already but they are short sleeves. Then two long sleepy things and 3 cardis Smile

Evergreen17 · 01/09/2016 08:12

Dotty I blame my mum, the moment I told her she took me shopping
She said she had been waiting for this for YEARS.
I am the youngest of 4 (at 35) so she had lost hope of being grandma as sisters didnt want kids and my brother doesnt have yet.

Evergreen17 · 01/09/2016 08:24

Shell dtd very uncomfortable

Lots of lube and still tight and then sore for a couple of days sometimes a wee bit of blood stained discharge (a tiny bit)

Ah top so I am supposed to put the vest underneath the baby grow? And are the sleepsuits the ones with feet attached?

Ah! Cinderella good stuff so my short sleeved vest will be fine underneath then
ROMPERS? Now you are intoducing a new word! Confused
Good tips you are providing about socks. Do I also need a snowsuit if I am planning on wearing the baby on a sling?

Smile I have already knitted a jumper.
I have a very easy pattern for one if anyone wants it

Back to my sling, we are very tempted by the idea of not buying a pushchair and carrying bubba instead. Mainly because of where we live/ the kind of things we do/ cost and space. I though I had to have a pushchair but I have read that people have done without. I worry about my back so we agreed not to buy one at first and if I struggle we will. Anyone else planning on being a kangaroo mum? GrinGrin

topmammy · 01/09/2016 08:36

Yes vest goes underneath baby grow. Personally I do use long sleeved vests in the colder months but you'd be ok with short sleeved vests too really unless it's freezing! I'd just make sure they had something like a cardigan covering their arms too.

Sleepsuits and babygrows are the same thing in my understanding. They are the ones with feet. Rompers babygrows without feet.

People do put babies in snowsuits while in slings and carriers but it's really not good as they could overheat. It makes me cringe everytime I see it. They need to be wearing layers of clothing, a hat, mitts & leg warmers if it's cold and you can get baby wearing coats with a panel that goes over baby or lots of people make blankets designed for baby wearing.

topmammy · 01/09/2016 08:38

And yes Evergreen I will most probably be a kangaroo mum most of the time with this baby Grin Can't be doing with the pram plus a toddler! I need 2 hands free!

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 08:47

I agree with no snowsuit in carrier. Ours has an infant insert that is like a duvet so would have been dangerously warm to have a snowsuit on too.

I have to say we hardly used our snowsuit even with a December baby, as you're supposed to remove layers when you go inside so the baby doesn't overheat, but if they're asleep in a snow suit you end up not wanting to wake them to take it off. We used a coat and warm blanket in the carry cot, then we could take the blanket off and unzip the coat if I went into a cafe for example. I think ours got used maybe three times. It's cream though, so at least we can use it again whatever the sex of this one!

CarolineSecretan · 01/09/2016 09:25

Morning!!!

So much is happening! My brain is like mush even though I've read and caught up I can't remember everything 😳 Sorry.

Some very organised ladies here, I'm definitely a wait until the last minute kinda girl but I still have things left over from my little one so we'll be OK.

What carriers does everyone have/are you getting? We've got one but it's a bit faffy so fancy something easier.

Last thing when I had my lo it was summer so he spent most of his time in a nappy on his sheepskin. For this baby would a babygro and blanket on a sheepskin be ok as well most likely have the heating on too?

DottyA · 01/09/2016 10:10

Evergreen I will get a buggy of some kind, but hopefully something quite small, light and easy to fold. A sling looks so much easier to me and I would hate to be pushing a big, heavy mega-pram around. That said, I'm keeping an open mind - a friend of mine was adamant that she would use a sling most of the time, but actually hated it, so...who knows! The baby might have its own ideas too.

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 10:12

Caroline We had DS in a short-sleeved vest and a sleepsuit if in the house with the heating on, I added a cellular blanket for naps but not if he was just lying on his play mat. He was a winter baby and that was fine.

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 10:24

Thanks ladies for all the advice! As my baby is due Feb 19th by the time she is out of newborn sizes it will be the beginning of Spring. I think I might just get a jacket for layering over sweaters and get MIL to knit. Nice wool blanket for layering when we are out. As we live in London though we'll be outside probably everyday. I'd go mad if I didn't leave the house and we don't need to drive in our neighbourhood

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 10:29

Evergreen I have had a slip disc in the past so I definitely will have a pram, though I also want a sling. I hope I can do some baby wearing at least in the beginning when the baby is lighter. DH will probably do most of the baby wearing though.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 01/09/2016 11:09

I didn't know they couldn't use a snowsuit in the car seat or the sling Confused means that I now need to ask..when can I use the gorgeous fluffy snow suits?

CinderellaFant · 01/09/2016 11:21

I will use the snowsuit when baby is in the pram

CinderellaFant · 01/09/2016 11:26

This explains about snowsuits and winter coats in car seats

twocatsandatoddler · 01/09/2016 11:44

Dreaming I think a lot of people use them in the pram, I didn't mainly because I found it a faff wrangling DS in and out it so preferred a blanket, but that's just personal preference!

I think I'll get one of the Morrck blankets to use instead this time as they look great, and easy to open up without waking baby up if going inside.

mrschn · 01/09/2016 12:52

Another here who will be carrying (also have a toddler and refuse to get a double buggy).

Caroline I have a close caboo sling which is great for the newborn stage. Used it for DS until he was about 9 months but in all honesty it wasn't great past about 3 months, especially as he was big. I'll be treating myself to something more structured this time for after the early days, probably a Connecta.

wispaxmas · 01/09/2016 14:21

caroline, I have a baby ktan stretchy sling for the newborn days and will be getting a standard Tula for afterward if baby likes being carried. I traded my last one for q toddler version and if it wasn't for the bump is still be using it now. Love the Tula! I also had a connecta, but sold it as I didn't like the way the straps did up or the waistband. Also had an ergo, and liked it well enough, but opted for the Tula for the nice prints and the padded leg openings for DD.

FriendlyGhost · 01/09/2016 14:31

I'm planning to combine a single buggy with baby wearing. I have a close caboo for newborn and an ergo baby 360 for older. They're both great. I also want to invest in a toddler Tula. They're very similar in design to the ergo but prettier patterns and they do toddler size. I'm also tempted by a woven wrap but can't make up my mind!

Evergreen17 · 01/09/2016 14:35

"Also avoid anything with silly designs like poppers on the back. "
ConfusedConfusedConfused oh oh.... I didnt keep that receipt Sad

LondonGirl83 · 01/09/2016 14:53

Ever agree regarding the gender specific stuff. I don’t mind pink as a color (though I don’t think I own anything pink myself). As a kid I had both race cars and baby dolls. It of course will depend on my daughter’s interests but I don’t want to bias her towards one thing or another early on. I was a bit of a tomboy (still am!) so lord only knows what I’ll do with a real girly girl :)

I am not sure what the difference is between a sleepsuit and a playsuit. The playsuit I bought does seem more like an outfit where the sleepsuits really look like pajamas but in reality they are basically the same as far as I can tell (both have covered feet for instance).

Friendly interesting that you think the cheaper suits don't was as well. Are there any in particular you would suggest to avoid.

ChozzleopsTheThird · 01/09/2016 15:31

This thread moves so quickly! Will try to add what I remember from a mammoth catch up session!

Clothes
I really dislike seeing newborns and young babies in children's clothes like jeans etc, they just look so uncomfortable. Sleep suits etc is all I have bought so far but have plenty of neutral ones. Not keen on overly pink things if it's a girl but I do like flowery pretty things so we are holding off buying anything else until we know the sex.

Carriers / pram
We have a moby wrap, and intend to get an ergo 360. Plus a pram, most likely the silver cross surf or chameleon depending on who wins out of DP and I 😂

Scans / appointments
Our 16 week app is in a week or so, then have booked a private scan to find out the sex which is on 11/09 (very excited) then the anomaly scan in October I think.

Symptoms
15+3 today and feeling loads better than I have been, morning sickness is sporadic now and feel less tired. Headaches are still every other day but they were every day so at least there is some improvement. I think I can feel fluttering of the baby moving but I can't really be sure, I had DP hum on me earlier and it did feel like a movement.

Nursery
All painted in grey and off white, just the glossing to do :)

Glad everyone is doing ok, it's so exciting to talk to people about it :)

FriendlyGhost · 01/09/2016 15:45

Sorry Evergreen it was me that said that. I'm just too lazy to keep turning a baby over to do up poppers. So much easier when they're on the front.
London I bought most of dd's sleep suits from M&s and John Lewis. I found they washed really well and were so soft. When she was a bit older I bought some stuff from sainsburys and tesco but I wasn't impressed. It's a matter of opinion though. I wanted things that would last for another baby or two but I found the cheaper stuff was maybe designed to be a bit more disposable. Often there's only £2/3 in it anyway and when m&s do 20% off they're the same price.
Dd was a December baby and lived in short sleeved vests, a baby grow and a knitted cardigan. I did have a snowsuit but that's because I did a lot of walking with her in the pram. For car journeys and in the sling I just added an extra cardigan/knitted jacket.

wispaxmas · 01/09/2016 16:17

Tesco stuff of DD's mostly got binned when outgrown, it did not wash and keep well. M&s, John Lewis, Polarn o pyret, other Scandi brands, Frugi, piccalilli, joules, petit bateau and boden are all more premium, wash well, and can easily last more than one child. Boden things can be resold for really good prices, too! Next are another favourite of mine for basics, their sleepsuits and pyjamas are great, but you can tell it's not the same high quality stuff. I like little bird by mothercare, but they aren't great quality and don't wash as well, which is a pity.

That said, the early sizes are outgrown so quickly I wouldn't recommend getting more than a couple nice things each size, as better quality is more important once they're in a size for at least 6 months.

I'm a massive shopaholic, though, and I need to get a handle on it.

Shellbell0403 · 01/09/2016 16:23

Am I the only one not buying until after 20 week scan? Still feel like I could be tempting fate..

Maybe buy once we go for out private gender scan...

It's good getting all the information and advice
