I find a lot of the young baby stuff very pink or blue but from 6 months plus my girls have barely worn pink. My faves on them are purple, green and yellow. They have lots of blue and loads of other colours to. Bits of pink in there but not loads.

We aren't finding out the sex but babies room will be green either way. I have a 13 year old stepson who stays with us once a week (used to be a lot more but he's wanting to be with friends at the weekend now) and baby and him will share a room. He will have his bed and wardrobe on one side of the room and baby will have their cot/bed and wardrobe on the other side. We have assured him that baby will sleep in our room when he sleeps over (will be in with us until 6-10 months anyway) and then when baby is over 2 they will sleep in the girls room when stepson sleeps over. Our girls room is huge and currently has bunkbeds and a toddler bed in there (3 year old in bottom bunk, 1 year old in toddler bed) so will keep that set up but our eldest will go in the top bunk around age 5-6. Its just better for baby to be in their own room the other 6 nights a week and seems silly it being empty. Baby won't have their toys in there though as the girls room is more like a playroom anyway. We've told stepson and he's happy with the arrangement and knows he will still have privacy. When baby is born we will decorate one wall with either pale purple accessories/pictures and stepson has chosen to do his wall Simpson themed Smile

Ooo Piano, mothercare have some lovely Peter Rabbit bits in if you're interested Smile

MarjorySunshineDust · 31/08/2016 20:06

Lots of chat today! Going to read back properly but noticed the clothes chat. One good thing I can recommend aside from just sleepsuits/vests is te little nighties you can get that are elasticated at the bottom, think they call them baby bundlers? Anyway, they are ace for night time nappy changes as no poppers to deal with! I've got a lovely one from the Little Bird range at Mothercare.

Also Tuppence and Crumble star shaped blanket, an alternative to fiddly snowsuits and they make the baby look like Maggie Simpson.

Hand knitted cardigans also great, DD was born in a heat wave so didn't get to put her in them, I think they look adorable on a newborn.

CinderellaFant · 31/08/2016 20:07

LondonGirl yes I think I'll get a little coat too, for the milder days when I'll just use a coat and hat and a blanket.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 31/08/2016 20:12

piano only I mostly wear skater or bodycon type dresses and had my delivery of a new order today which will basically be my winter wardrobe. I ordered 3 long sleeve, thick yet stretchy knee length bodycon dresses, 2 jumper dresses, 2 skater dresses and one poncho and definitely not two more pairs of boots . I just ordered the size up and while some are still a little loose I'm confident they will all fit me.right until the end of my pregnancy and I'm happy with the look. I already have maternity tights, some leggings and about 8 other ponchos/wraps so no worried there as ponchos and wraps fit with or without bump. There is a website called everything 5 pounds and well, everything is 5 pounds lol. Coz its so cheap you aren't to bothered if you don't wear stuff for long but some of it had been amazing. I've bought boots for a fiver and.dresses that should have been 50-100 pounds! I always tell people to look at the reviews though about sizing. So like, say you're a 12 and your ordering a dress but want the size up for bump, if reviews already say its smaller so order a size up then order a 16. X

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 31/08/2016 20:16

I love knitted clothes, had loads with the girls and used them lots as both October babies. This one is due 3rd of Feb so will likely be cold! I already have a white and silver snowsuit from last time in 0-3 so won't get another. I have lots of girlie snowsuits in 0-3, 3-6 and 6-9 but if baby is a boy I will be giving them away! I like having baby in 'proper' clothes in the day time then a.sleep suit at night, just personal preference. Also highly recommend grow/sleep bags for night. No kicking them off!

mrschn · 31/08/2016 20:26

Wow, one difficult day with the toddler and the thread has gone mad!

Rooms: we've decorated already, we moved DS into the bigger room which he will share with baby. His end has a blue wall and little boys stuff, baby's end has a mint green wall and some animal wall stickers. So totally gender neutral. Will try and upload a pic.

Clothes for baby - we went through DS old stuff too at the weekend and pulled out all the newborn stuff. Will need to get more, and lots of it is quite boyish so if baby is a girl we'll be doing a mad dash to tesco for basics in the first week or so.

Pregnancy pillow. I have a dream genie and love it though agree with the comment that it's a bit annoying having to flip it when you flip sides. I had seriously bad hip pain later in my last pregnancy, so much that I was crying at bedtime not wanting to go to bed! Ended up sleeping on top of a duvet. Worked wonders! Though maybe one for when it cools down again.

Does anyone know what size newborn is in Asda George? Is it "first size" or should I be going for the 0-3months? I'm looking at the snow suits

Shellbell0403 · 31/08/2016 20:52

scottish I'm sure it's first size? My sister works for sainsburys and she said they have some lovely stuff in!

top it was me who was asking for dtd... it's just abit uncomfortable and stuff... don't want to let DH down though..

SpinALittleFaster · 31/08/2016 20:56

I'd definitely recommend stocking up on the up to 10lb size unless you expect to have a giant baby. I bought 2 sleepsuits in newborn and everything else was 0-3. DD was 7.5lbs and didn't fit in to 0-3 until she was about a month old.

I'm going to stick with just sleepsuits for the first few months. They're so much easier for changing and getting trousers or tights on to a tiny baby isn't fun. We had loads for DD but she was a reflux baby and could easily be changed 5 times a day.

ScottishSnowflake · 31/08/2016 20:56

Thanks shell! Will plod over to sainsburys now Smile

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 31/08/2016 21:15

Both my girls where over 9lb, one chunky and one long. They both wore the up to 10lb size for about three weeks and gained lots early x

topmammy · 31/08/2016 21:15

I love hand knitted cardigans too, so lovely on babies.

I got a Tuppence and Crumble star blanket for DD (in pink of course Wink) so if this baby is a girl I can't wait to reuse it. You can get similar blankets with slits in for car seat straps too so you don't have to have a blanket that might easily fall off etc. Also makes it less tempting to put baby in a thick padded coat in their car seat which is a big nono!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 31/08/2016 21:23

I have one of those for the carseats topmammy and I love it! Definitely worth the buy x

CinderellaFant · 31/08/2016 21:23

I love those tuppence and crumple star wraps! I have one on my list Smile

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 21:28

I dear-- I haven't started thinking about blankets! I also didn't know a baby can't wear a coat in a carseat... How do you learn all this stuff?

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 21:29

*Oh dear (not I dear)

FriendlyGhost · 31/08/2016 21:34

I love hand knitted cardies too. My mum's already on the case! My dd used to and is still wearing cardies that my nana knitted for me in the very early eighties. She would have loved to know that they're still being used!
I bought a lot of m&s up to 1 month stuff and some John Lewis newborn. That comes up longer for some reason. DD was into 0-3 pretty quickly though. I agree with just vests and sleep suits. Also avoid anything with silly designs like poppers on the back. I used to get through several outfits a day but dd was the queen of the poo explosion. One thing I did notice is that the cheaper suits didn't wash well and the stains didn't come out so I much prefer spending a bit more for softer suits that wash well.
Our nursery is an off white colour (think it's called timeless) but I've decorated one wall with bright stickers and I love it. These ones: m.johnlewis.com/jomoval-scroll-tree-wall-stickers/p/231525373
Also have a bright rug and curtains. I prefer neutral with accessories.
I'm planning to move dd into a bigger room before xmas and then baby can have the nursery. I'll just get different wall stickers if it's a boy.

topmammy · 31/08/2016 21:36

I don't know London ... I knew little about babies before having DD but you just become a sponge for information. I learnt lots from my other antenatal group from second/third etc time mums too. Babies can wear a nice thick cardigan or a thin type coat/jacket in a car seat, it's just the thick padded snowsuit type coats that are dangerous as it stops the straps from being able to be tightened correctly. Not to mention the potential for over heating. Layers you can easily add or take away are always best.

wispaxmas · 31/08/2016 22:11

My DD could have gone straight into 0-3 at 9lb6, but it would've been a bit big and she did fit into some newborn sizes for about a month. For the sake of a month, though, I'll just be dressing baby in slightly big things and buy NO new newborn bits. If we need to get more when it's born so be it, night feeds are online shopping times!

wispaxmas · 31/08/2016 22:15

friendly, love those wall stickers! We decorated DD's nursery in a similar vein - neutral walls (grey in our case), but with coloured stickers and some coloured drawers in her storage unit. Even though there's a bit of bright pink in there I won't be changing anything if this baby is a boy. I just can't be bothered, though I was thinking about getting more drawers to put into the kallax/expedit unit in there and while the other 2 are pink I might do a different colour for the 2 more..

wispaxmas · 31/08/2016 22:16

Oh, and about car seat blankets, I'm getting a size 2 Morckk (or is it Morrck?) blanket as friends of Autumn babies had them last time and said not to bother with size 1, but that they're fab.

kikisdelivery · 31/08/2016 22:23

Haha friendly, Timeless is exactly the colour we have currently in our entire house! That very light milky-white colour that isn't pure white?

I'm like you, I'd rather keep our spare room (soon to be nursery!) neutral in the walls/floor and add brightly coloured art to the walls, add colourful rugs and cushions and so on. I'm currently battling with the dear OH about a large glass topped desk in there which he thinks should stay.... erm... no!!! It's nearly the length of one side wall!

Blueskies80 · 31/08/2016 23:29

Hi all

Big apologies for going missing in the last few weeks... School holidays and being away have made for busy times with little iPad time! I have kept an eye on the thread and pleased to hear all the progress and see scan photos! Well done all.

I'm nearly 19 weeks now, time flies. Scan on 23 sept. Have pregnancy rhinitis which is a pain and has gone on long enough now that I need to see a doctor about it!

Re clothes, and what to get, don't ask me as I had a small first baby (under 6lb so newborn hung off her in the hospital, had to get tiny baby clothes) then a 9lb second baby who didn't fit newborn and had to send DH home for some 0-3s!! I will be packing (unless I have a home birth) tiny baby, newborn and 0-3! Have loads of clothes for boy or girl so no need to buy anything, although might buy a few bibs and other bits at Christmas time.

Haven't thought much about rooms and decorations, we are all neutrally decorated here as baby will go with either brother or sister after about 9 months I think.. Although need to undertake a major declutter!

I have a dream geeni pillow too and it is amazing for later in second and third trimester although stil find I wake with sore hips especially on left.

Night all!

Evergreen17 · 01/09/2016 07:11

Catching up catching up
Sparkles thanks so much for sharing that info from midwife!
Friendly scan is on the 30th ConfusedConfused good news about the sex. My midwife app is today!
London yes to hip pain sometimes and leg falling asleep

I am not redecorating either. Mostly because I painted the spare room one or two years ago to a nice shade of yellow and white which looks quite nice and bright and I think I will just put some extra furniture there in white and Bob is your uncle Smile
