Also after a while you just start wiping the sick/dribble off rather than changing for every little spot of dirt!

Readyfortwo · 31/08/2016 14:14

I wouldn't bother with anything other than babygro's & vests under 3 months. It's just way too much hassle trying to put them in itty bitty trousers! I didn't use any newborn stuff last time- DS was huge tho. Next do a 1 month size which we used for the first couple of weeks, then he was in 0-3mths for about a month & by 6 weeks old we were on to 3-6mth. Obvs that just depends on the size of your baby, but I wouldn't go too mad on any one size until they're here! We also had 'bedtime' gro's & daytime gro's. Basically we saved anything secondhand/awkward poppers for the night.

twocats the 10-12 is just sleepsuits, its 'outfits' as well. Still I think that will work for our laundry habits!

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 14:26

Thanks Ready-- I've bought a handful (maybe 3) 1 month things, and the rest are 0-3 months. I figure if we need more of the tiny stuff we can get it after she's born and then use the bigger stuff when we need it.

I did buy one newborn outfit for the trip home from hospital though... She'll probably only where it once but I figure, its her birthday! She should have something nice that fits [Grin]. More money than sense obviously Blush

Readyfortwo · 31/08/2016 14:45

Ha ha, I bought DS this lovely dungaree outfit. Managed to wrestle him into it for when my parents came to visit when he was 3 days old....so massively impractical & actually felt a bit harsh to put him in something so lumpy considering he was so used to being naked in my belly! And then of course he needed socks as it didn't have feet....which are pretty ridiculous on newborns, and lasted all of 30secs. Anyways, after that he was in baby gro's until he was a couple of months old.

Ready that's too funny! I think I'm using the term 'outfit' too loosely. Its basically a fancy (expensive) sleepsuit...

www.petit-bateau.co.uk/e-shop/product/20625/L24/baby-s-two-material-blouse-one-piece.html

I won't buy her entire wardrobe from Le Petit Bateau though! The prices for something that will be worn maybe 10 times tops are hard to justify.

Still, I figure we (and the rest of our immediate family) will take about 10,000 photos of her that day that will be distributed to all and sundry so I splurged :)

DottyA · 31/08/2016 15:32

Gosh, I'm amazed everyone's thinking about clothes already! I can't imagine buying anything until after xmas....

Shellbell0403 · 31/08/2016 16:27

Can I ask a personal question... is anyone else finding dtd sore or uncomfortable?

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 16:29

Dotty I think its mostly me, not everyone!

Its a quiet period at work (August always is) so I'm trying to do what I can as come Christmas I'll be very busy and possibly too big and tired to want to get on with much.

My goal is to clear all the junk out of the room that will be the nursery and arrange a charity collection, repaint the white walls which are scuffed and scratched, finally get some bigger bras, and sort out newborn clothes by the end of September.

After that I'll slowly over the following 16 weeks get everything thing else on my shopping list, set up the nursery . I also need to learn to drive....
Like I said, I'm a slow shopper so I could never leave it all until the last 6 weeks.

Naschkatze · 31/08/2016 16:30

Dotty I'm glad you said it. I haven't bought a single thing and was beginning to feel nervous and a terrible mum to be!
I literally don't know where to start regarding what clothes we will need.
My mum kept some things of ours which she wants to show me to see if I want them, so I think I'll start there! Hoping there are still a couple of cardigans that my grandma used to knit us Grin perhaps my baby can be entirely kitted out in clothes from the 90's!

DottyA · 31/08/2016 16:38

I'm just very impressed with your organisation London :-)

I think I'll probably just get a few basics to get through the first couple of weeks, and see what we get given - everyone I know who's had babies ended up with loads of stuff so I don't want to go crazy! I may of course feel differently after the 20 week scan...

ScottishSnowflake · 31/08/2016 16:40

London, I've spent the last month sorting out our spare room for the nursery (17+ bags to charity Blush) and so as a treat my parents are coming over to paint it for us in my favourite colour - another grey nursery here!

twocatsandatoddler · 31/08/2016 17:03

I'm not sure I really need to buy anything apart from a new cot, and a chest of drawers for DS's room to replace the changing table which we'll move into the spare room for this one. Poor second kids don't get anything new!

All the smaller clothes I bought last time are unisex so even if we have a girl this time I won't need any new things for a few months, and even then I reckon she'll be sleeping in DS's car sleepsuits anyway! I tried to keep things like sleeping bags and blankets unisex last time even after DS was born as I knew we'd be using them again.

Readyfortwo · 31/08/2016 17:04

Ah that's lovely London, yes basically a posh onesie! You just have to hope she doesn't poo/Wer all over it in the first 20mins....

Our nursery's done so current project is the spare room so that DS has somewhere to go in a few weeks time. Builders have finished, but now we have decorating to do- impossible at the weekends due to DS' love of ladders & hammers (and my back issues rendering me useless). So we're trying to tackle it in the evenings- will prob take us a month but I'm determined to get it done before we go on hol in October.

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 17:08

Dotty I think I'm going to ask people to get the older stages of stuff (3-6 and 6-12). That's when they can wear more outfits and fun stuff anyhow which is why I figured I'd take care of 0-3 months if that makes sense.

I'm a planner by nature though I don't feel very organized. I've been fighting a cat flea problem the past two weeks (someone came in and sprayed on Monday which hopefully has done the trick). I was supposed to start the clear out of the nursery this weekend but that totally did not happen.

wispaxmas · 31/08/2016 17:17

london, I love petit bateau! We lived in Paris for 8 months of my daughter's first year and I have to say they have great sale prices in January and July if you wanted to get more. I might buy a couple new baby bits, but will definitely be waiting for the January sales, it's so expensive.

wispaxmas · 31/08/2016 17:19

I have to say I enjoy putting 'outfits' on newborns. I use the term outfit loosely, though, as it tends to be adorable bodysuits and soft trousers/leggings.

Wow lots to catch up on! Sorry i cant quite remember who said what exactly but here's my two pennies worth...

Pregnancy pillows - I have a dream genii pillow that I used last time but I think I'll be getting a different type this time. I found it annoying as if you want to turn over you need to flip the pillow over too so the back support is on the correct side. (Unless I was using it wrong or something?) The pillowcase is a pain to change due to the shape of the pillow and my waters actually went after I'd been wrestling with it Grin it's a joke here that changing the dream genii pillowcase is an induction technique!

Baby clothes - I totally agree with sticking mainly to babygrows (plus you'll need a vest underneath too - a long sleeved one in February I reckon as it might still be a bit chilly) while they're small, it's so much easier. Plus you won't feel bad throwing them out when a particularly impressive pooplosion stains them beyond what your washing machine and stain removers can deal with Grin.

I love pink girly clothes! DD wears pink all the time. Her room is also painted pink on one wall and white on the rest. She just suits pink but I agree it's not easy finding nice gender neutral clothes sometimes. I did dress her in mostly white babygrows when she was a newborn though. I think newborns babies look so lovely in white.

I wasn't sure what size DD would need to wear when she was born so I took 3 different sizes in my hospital bag. She ended up being even a bit too small for the smallest size! Best to be prepared though.

London I wish I was more of a slow shopper. I am a bit too impatient at times Halo

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 18:34

wispa January sales is a good idea! Especially for nice things for when she is 9 months to 12 months.

top I treat every purchase as if it had the potential to change my life... It's ridiculous! My only comfort is that my DH is worse. Naturally we subscribe to Which!

CinderellaFant · 31/08/2016 18:43

As this is DC3 I'm not too clueless about what to buy. I buy the smaller sizes- DS was 8lb and DD was 7lb 10 and 0-3 would have been far too big! The first few weeks they were in first size/newborn.

Plenty of vests- personally I buy the short sleeved, I find the long sleeved ones get bunched up under the sleep suit sleeves!

Sleep suits and rompers- I mostly wear sleepsuits however did have a nice few all in one rompers for them to wear if they were going out for the day! Had jeans/dresses etc but rarely used them as they were awkward and uncomfy!

Plenty of bibs! I'm one of those weirdos who has never used a Muslin even after 2 children but I go throw endless bibs! Love the tommee tippee milk feeding bibs- they are padded up round the neck to stop milk dripping down.

Few little pairs of socks- it's hard to find socks small enough for a newborns skinny ankles! In the cold winter i put socks under sleepsuits to keep their feet warm. I remember getting nice small ones from GAP.

Little cardigans to wear around the house on top of sleepsuits. I love hand knitted ones.

Will need a snowsuit for baby for being out in the pram. both my others were summer babies so never needed one so early. I'll also get a little fluffy coat and some little knitted hats.

I've never used scratch mitts either- bought them both times but they are probably still knocking around the house somewhere with the tags on!!

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 18:46

I actually sent my DH a link to a baby outfit recently and asked what he thought. His response: 'It's sweet looking I guess... But I haven't seen enough baby clothes to have an informed opinion yet'

No one should want to be a slow shopper!

LondonGirl83 · 31/08/2016 19:23

Cinderella you think a coat and a snowsuit are a good idea. I was just planning to get a snowsuit. Is it just for the sake of variety?

topmammy · 31/08/2016 19:25

Lol London Don't worry, it's likely your DH will be far too tired when baby is born to want to spend time deliberating baby clothing choices Wink. There really are so many choices for literally everything though, it's too much!

That's a good point Cinderella; long sleeved vests are a bit tricky sometimes to get babygrow arms over. I used sleeping bags though instead of blankets at night so was always worried DD's arms would get cold without the extra layer of long sleeves.

I also didn't think much to the scratch mits, they just fall off. The inbuilt/fold over ones on babygrows are much better. I didn't really understand why they were needed tbh but soon realised when DD was born!

Oh yes and definitely get bibs, not just for feeding time either. Babies often drool a lot when they start teething Grin. There's some pretty bibs in Next to match their babygrows.

Who was asking about DTD? When I was pregnant last time we literally only did it once as we were worried about hurting baby. This time we've been a bit more relaxed but tbh I don't feel much desire to do it really. Poor DH. It doesn't hurt though - if it does or its sore I'd probably stop and try again another time.

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 31/08/2016 19:53

Wow, so much chat! I've been looking at baby clothes too but I have to say I'm more concerned about mummy clothes at the moment. Nothing looks good at the moment, maternity dresses are enormous sacks and normal dresses tight around waste. Ordered Next jeans though, am in love! So comfy!! Also m&s have new white shirt in limited collection with open back, two flaps which actually will be perfect as maternity shirt.

While I next I did check out the baby stuff and agree it's sweet and the gender neutral stuff is cute. They have a set of little yellow suits with duckies on and some other mint ones. I'll be going back there and m&s (pretty lilac collection london once the babies room is not a dumping ground following our recent move too.

Am going with a Beatrix Potter theme in the room though, my crafting urge is coming back in full force! Helps that there's loads as its her 150th anniversary this year.

Anyone else not finding out the gender??
