Magic, are tightenings kind of like cramps? I've been having plenty of those! My MW said not to worry, it's just things expanding and shifting about

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/08/2016 19:54

Hi everyone. Thanks for the welcome comments. So:

Name: LRD
Age: DP's 35
EDD: 25th March
DC #1

DP's doing much better the last couple of days and not getting so exhausted (though maybe because she's finally given in to eating carb-heavy meals as that seems to help).

dusty - that's so awkward, hope you get through it ok. I'm really conscious how much it seems to be frowned upon not to tell people asap, even though legally it's not required and it doesn't really feel right yet (to us anyway).

Cloeycat · 10/08/2016 19:56

I'm also going to have to break the news during my probation. And I was the last one hired before a hire freeze- no ideal

NameChange30 · 10/08/2016 20:03

Purple, Dusty and Cloey
I'm in a similar boat. I conceived about a week after starting a new job! I do feel a bit nervous about telling them. My friends have all told me not to feel guilty - pregnancy is a fact of life and maternity leave is a legal right. Rationally I know they're right but emotionally I'm still going to feel awkward when I tell my boss! Still, part of me is looking forward to being able to explain that I've been tired and not 100% (unfortunately I didn't have much time to impress them before getting pregnant!) I think my probation period is 6 months, which takes me to the beginning of December, but there's no way on earth I could wait until then. I'll probably tell them at some point before my 16 week midwife appt, so I can have the time off without having to make it up!

Thanks Dusty and MrsMushrooms I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Not cramps, nothing painful, more like Braxton Hicks (I had loads last time and DS came at 41 weeks in the end). If it were later on I would think it's the baby moving, that's what I put my early BH down to last time until the sonographer asked me if I was having a lot of contractions, I said no, none, and he told me I was having one there and then Blush Turns out I couldn't tell the difference between the baby moving and contractions (until labour when it became VERY clear)!

MrsMushrooms · 10/08/2016 20:10

Ah, Magic, I'm afraid I can't really help then - this is the furthest I've ever managed with a pregnancy so I've no reference point for the kinds of things felt later on! I'm sure it is fine but if you're worried can you call your MW or EPU for advice?

purplesmiler · 10/08/2016 20:12

dusty I considered waiting too but I felt there would have been disappointment from the managers. Even though we feel a bit rubbish about it at least we have been upfront. I just want to work hard until the baby comes and hope they see my commitment.

purplesmiler · 10/08/2016 20:17

cloey & name it's tough working hard to provide we shouldnt be getting stresses about these kind of things we should be able to tell work and enjoy it.

NameChange30 · 10/08/2016 20:21

purple I agree. Let's all try not to feel guilty xx

greentreeseverywhere · 10/08/2016 20:28

Another one here in a new job! I found out I was pregnant the weekend after my first week at work! Luckily it's only a maternity cover role so I don't feel as guilty but still not sure how maternity pay works out but going to worry about that after 12 weeks!
All i want to eat is chocolate and I'm never normally fussed about sweet stuff Grin

Gardencentregroupie · 10/08/2016 20:30

purple try not to feel bad about it. I'm a front line police officer, the SOPs say I must tell my manager straight away if I get pregnant and I must be removed from front line duties. My team is currently desperately short so when I told my team boss he started laughing semi-hysterically at the prospect of losing yet another team member. Well bad luck, I was cycle 20 of trying and I was never going to put my family on hold for the convenience of my employer. Your manager will cope, that's why managers get paid more money :)

NameChange30 · 10/08/2016 20:38

greentrees You won't get SMP but you will get Maternity Allowance which is very similar (£140/week, you just don't get extra for the first 6 weeks as you would on SMP).

Thanx namechange30 I knew there would b something just didn't want to add to my stress list! Not sure when I'm going to tell my boss see how long I can hide it for!!!

alphabook · 10/08/2016 21:08

I've been told it's perfectly normal to have cramps and for symptoms to come and go. Try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)

Another one here who started a new job just after finding out I was pregnant. I'm going to tell them after 12 weeks but I'm really nervous!

Leanneg87 · 10/08/2016 21:19

Well I have in today and had a chippy. For the first time in my life I feel great after it, I think my body needed the carbs! Don't know what it is, I really want to be eating salad and fruit but I'm gagging just thinking about it. I just want dry toast Smile anyone else the same? Had my first appt at doctors today and was massively underwhelmed by the whole experience.

neonrainbow · 10/08/2016 21:20

Itsmagic I have been getting that every now and again about once every 4 to 5 days I read that it is round ligament pain where the uterus is stretching and all the ligaments around it are accommodating the growth.

charlybs · 10/08/2016 23:06

Monkey my symptoms have definitely lessened but I am LOVING IT. The nausea was driving me up the wall so it's like sweet relief. Apparently it's just your placenta taking over more so not a bad sign at all.

Dustycorners · 10/08/2016 23:26

Can't believe there are so many of us recently started new jobs! Now I feel less bad Grin

Just plucked up the courage to see if my boss had replied to my email, and she has sent a very nice message congratulating me and saying we can talk tomorrow about how to work around my nausea. So relieved that I don't have to hide it anymore!

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 11/08/2016 07:31

I feel kind of the same, although I've been in the job a year now, I'm in quite a senior position that they spent over a year recruiting for. I'm also worried about how I'll cope with 2 when I return. I've told the guy I would k for on a day to day basis but my direct manager is in Germany and I only see him twice a year so going to have to break the news over the phone. They'll all say the right things but I can't help feel it's a massive pain in the arse, and I'm under pressure to prove it isn't affecting my performance.

alphabook · 11/08/2016 07:32

Yesterday was the first day in weeks I wasn't sick, it was wonderful! Desperately hoping my symptoms are going to start getting better now.

greentreeseverywhere · 11/08/2016 09:03

I had my booking appointment last Friday and had the bloods and urine taken. Iv not heated anything so am I going with no news is good news? I feel rough today I'm achey and feel shit! About to plaster a smile on my face and go into work Smile

Carolann8584 · 11/08/2016 09:17

green I'm the same, cold/ flu-y today as well as nauseous. In work at the min, luckily my manager is off today as I only share an office with her I can close the door and hide from everyone else xx

Carolann8584 · 11/08/2016 10:46

Just sneezed and had the most painful stabbing pain in my stomach, it's gone now but was sooooo painful x

Helbel82 · 11/08/2016 10:55
