Appletree, I'm not too far from you in Bath. We moved here from London this year, but have family in and around Bristol (Kingswood, Clifton, Keynsham and Weston), so do spend a lot of time there.

Minispringroll · 25/08/2016 19:18

Stubble My midwife (well, her sick cover) referred me to the maternity voices website and I've looked there. It seems to be different NHS classes in different places and you have to call up. I'm not sure from what time I'm meant to ring them. I think the midwife suggested 34-36 weeks, since otherwise I'll have forgotten everything. Hmm I'm not sure how quickly they fill up, though.
There's an NCT class for end of December/late January, but the end of that one is about 2 days before my due date. Hmm
The Puddleducks one is the only course near me. Everything else is in Bristol...and at around 7pm. I didn't intend to stay at school for that long. How much did it cost when you did them? I don't quite understand the pricing...is it £30 for the term and then you pay each session...or just the £30 and that's it?

Theaks · 25/08/2016 19:32

minispringroll I have signed up for puddle ducks in Leeds. It's only costing me £40 registration fee and I can go til baby due so I will get 10 lessons, 11 at a push. So didn't think that was bad. The nct classes are so pricey so I wanted to do something to get out of the house and meet people. Didn't think £40 was bad.

Appletree4 · 25/08/2016 19:48

I think there are mum and baby groups near by Bristol and will also definitely do the NHS ones so all is not lost. The weeks are just passing so quickly at the moment!

Thanks Spring I'll look into the Daisy Birthing too - I haven't heard of them before. You'll love the tour of st mikes the birth centres gorgeous (but some rooms are a bit snug) and the staff are great too.

Shopaholic I see there's loads of NCT in Bath, are you booking on? When's your due date?

Nice to know there's a few of you nearby! Maybe we can organise something

I'm sure there's plenty out there, and that 'other antenatal class providers are available' I just need to get looking

SolomanDaisy · 25/08/2016 19:56

Thanks everyone re the scan. tipboov, I hope yours goes well. The head can grow so much in 4 weeks, our baby's had gone from below 5th centile to above 50th! (Makes sense as DS had a 98th centile head). At the minute I'm just being rescanned, the midwife was going to discuss it with the sonographer and call me if they decided to refer me for Doppler scans. I haven't heard anything, so I assume not. The midwife was much more relaxed about it than the sonographer.

I moved countries when DS was two months old, so I'm hoping the building work won't seem too bad!

Daisy, have a look at Baby Jogger City Mini. I wish I'd known about it. I could never get the hang of folding our Bugaboo Bee, so when we got the Baby Jogger it was a revelation! You just pull a tag, it's amazing. It's also built like a tank and has an enormous shopping basket. It is much wider than the Bee though and harder to steer with one hand.

shopaholic85 · 25/08/2016 20:03

Appletree, I'm booked on the one in October and due on 8th December. I'm definitely up for a Bristol/Bath meet Smile

Minispringroll · 25/08/2016 20:07

Daisy We had the choice between iCandy Peach and the Jane Trider. Went for the Trider. I guess the folding is just a question of practice. We'll have to get it out before the baby is born and play with the pushchair a little bit.

Had midwife appointment yesterday and everything seems "perfect". I'm apparently measuring a little big, though (well, I was 24+3 and measured 25cm...is that really such a discrepancy?), so she'll keep an eye on me and perhaps test me for diabetes (seriously???). I've also been referred to a consultant because of previous miscarriages. Hmm Whooping cough vaccination today. They weren't quite sure whether it was 28+ weeks or 16+ weeks for the vaccination. Did the guidance chance recently? I'm 24+4.

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 20:08

Ah ok - last time I did Aqua natal via puddleducks it was pay p/lesson at 6.50 each! They're all franchised so it pays to shop around with them if you go for lessons too. Only found out about the free nhs ones after I'd given birth Hmm

I did NCT last time so won't put DH through that again Grin
Might make him do hypnobirthing instea.

daisychain07 · 25/08/2016 20:25

Thanks for the replies re travel systems. Im not too worried about collapsing them, I'm sure I will get the hang of it. I tried the silver cross after and did it first time! Just wanted a few pointers on best Prams out there, all very new and alien to me!

Minispringroll · 25/08/2016 20:32

Had lots of fun washing baby stuff yesterday. Grin Still not quite dry but getting there...
Will need a few more washes, I would think.

goinggrey1978 · 25/08/2016 20:58

daisychain07, i have a silver cross pioneer in red in my basket just waiting to check the price doesn't change as its bank holiday weekend, along with the cot bed and travel cot too
Minispringroll, great minds think alike, the past 3 days i've been washing all bubbles used clothes started with vest all 27 of them, then 19 baby grows and today 7 grow bags of various sizes, plus 3 crocheted blankets also used, one was made especially for bubble and they are all lovely and soft!

Minispringroll · 25/08/2016 21:08

going Wow! That sounds like you've got loads!! Shock I haven't washed any new stuff, yet. Instead, I've been playing with textile dye and changed the colour of anything white we'd been given. Grin Quite like the orange and now I'm looking for some nice dark reds and perhaps teal or turquoise. I don't understand why it's so difficult to buy any colourful babyclothes. Most of the stuff is pastel colours...Hmm

Minispringroll, yes all from fb selling pages and charity shops though, barely spent anything, paid £5 each for most of the grow bags as well, i'm glad i've done it though as i now have bubbles whole 0-3 months wardrobe sorted and in drawer all ready to go!! as i don't have a tumble dryer i got enough to last!!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 25/08/2016 22:05

Mini Spring can I ask where your found the Daisy birthing ones in Weston??

Been away for a few days and feel like I have missed so much.

Sending flowers and hugs to anyone who needs them.

This baby is so low down its crazy my DD was always higher so having this one makes my bump hurt so much it's crazy. Also the baby does not kick till the evening will start about 10pm kick a bit and then will start again about 4am till 5ish then nothing all day should I be worried or does this sound okay??

Brought the pram which feels strange it's going to live at the In laws till the birth as have no storage for it.

goinggrey1978 · 25/08/2016 22:32

Lovewatchingrainfall, yes my bubble is very active from 3am onwards sometimes for half an hour but sometimes up to 4 hours, it's also active when I eat ice lollies during the day or give it something it likes to eat, atm it's baked beans!!

Grapefruit8 · 25/08/2016 22:39

Gosh this thread is moving quickly tonight! Is there anyone in the North West? Seems to be loads of you round the Bristol area! I have looked at NCT classes but need to call up to enquire about the NHS ones. I also like the idea of hypnobirthing? Not sure if it was someone on here who recommended a particular hypnobirthing book?

Nojo82 · 25/08/2016 22:42

I normally get good movement when I lying down but today I've had hardly anything.

Thisisbonkers · 25/08/2016 22:48

I'm north west, grapefruit. south Manchester.

I had a failed bra buying trip this evening. I'm getting desperate but nothing offered enough support for these Gs.

Thisisbonkers · 25/08/2016 22:49

Local NHS classes seem to be just two evenings at 2 hours each, including hospital tour. Doesn't seem much?! I've signed up for NCT and need to confirm, but found better dates today so hoping I can squeeze on that one instead.

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 22:52

grape I'm north west, I used the hypnobirthing association: www.thehypnobirthingassociation.com/hypnobirthing-teachers-directory/uk-hypnobirthing-teachers.html then googled the people near me. A friend recommended someone local too.

SolomanDaisy · 25/08/2016 22:53

grapefruit, I think I recommended natal hypnotherapy. You can get a book and CDs and there are also weekend courses.

Popskipiekin · 25/08/2016 22:59

Ahhh, first day of properly swollen legs. Don't remember it starting this early last time Angry Maybe just the heat plus I've been sitting working for 12hrs+ with very little exercise - legs up now and might be able to pull it back tomorrow!

Kitch82 · 25/08/2016 23:07

Hi all. I was on the original thread but haven't posted since. I think I've managed to keep up with most of the happenings though. I'm 34, this is baby number 1 due 7th Dec, team yellow. I'm also South Manchester. Have got 4x 2 hour sessions of parent education classes at my hospital in October. Would like to do NCT just to find some local people in the same situation but i think I've missed the opportunity now.

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 23:10

Don't worry kitch I found NCT very hit and miss. Useful for the year I was off and catch ups, but not in touch now. I met more friendly souls in my sure start centre and baby classes who I still see regularly.
