Thought I'd start a new thread before thread 4 fills up Grin

Never understand parents sticking oar in on names. My truly very lovely DM tried it on massively with DS1, so she doesn't get to know the name before he's out for DS2. If she asks we just reel off a list of joke names (e.g. after Brexit I said I was thinking about Europa or Romaine). Jacob's lovely - worth trying for another?? Grin

Thisisbonkers · 25/08/2016 12:47

Names are HARD. We have a list of girls' names containing a number we are both happy with. Boys are impossible. I can imagine getting to six weeks and having to name it Child1 if it's a boy Grin there only one name we agree on, and we only like it, rather than love it (Benjamin).

Am going to read the name threads and see if we can steal any potentials!

Thisisbonkers · 25/08/2016 13:29

Damn, DP just vetoed Reuben for being too biblical. I had no idea it was!

Popskipiekin · 25/08/2016 13:35

Thisisbonkers you could always just choose a letter you like and let your child fill in a name later (!): www.psychologytoday.com/articles/201003/raising-e-and-yo

ElodieS · 25/08/2016 14:23

Names are really hard! We're doing pretty well for girls' names, but struggling with boys' names. I feel like we only really like quite usual boys' names like Matthew, Jonathan, Thomas etc, and I'd like something a little bit different. The only other one I really love is Ezra, but I think it's getting quite popular recently and is also very Jewish, which isn't a problem since we are, but I wonder whether it might be nice to be a bit more anonymous sometimes... Dunno!

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 14:29

We're stuck for boys names, girls we had sorted - would have been Martha or Alice or Dorothy

However DHs family are virtually all boys with our surname so all the classics have been used by siblings / cousins children. With each athlete on Olympics I tried them on DH, was gutted that he vetoed Everardo and Feck as options Grin

Nojo82 · 25/08/2016 14:55

Hey I'm good this morning. The swelling went down in the evening and I checked my blood pressure in work today and all good. My job has me on my feet all day so that didn't help..

Think we have picked a name, mixed race family so we have one arabic name and one irish name..

Hannahcarp27 · 25/08/2016 14:59

I find boys names much easier. I seriously struggling with a girls name. I want a Irish name as both our family have an Irish background and I think I want it to start with a vowel. God knows why but this is what my little pregnant has decided!! Grin

SolomanDaisy · 25/08/2016 15:54

My growth scan today wasn't quite the 'everything's fine' that I was hoping for. The head had grown nicely, but the abdomen and femur haven't grown as much as they'd like. Probably a small baby, but possibly some growth problems. I have to go for another growth scan in 4 weeks.

We've chosen a name, through the method of finding the only name we could agree on. Thank God we're not having a boy as we've used the only name we agree on already! We need something that works in Dutch and English, which doesn't help!

Nojo, glad you're feeling better!

Elodie, I love the name Ezra. I think it's so popular now that people won't immediately assume he's Jewish.

TipBoov · 25/08/2016 15:56

I'm struggling with girls names, I had one picked out already for a boy!

The baby will be mixed race and her brother has a really unusual name so I need to find something that suits.

I bought some nappies and wipes today, it's definitely feelin real now. Only 15 weeks until my due date. We still haven't started on the bedroom renovations yet - we're changing the upstairs layout to turn our house from a 3-bed to a 4-bed and only just got the go ahead from the planning dept last week 😱

SolomanDaisy · 25/08/2016 16:07

Are you going to try and get it done before the baby comes Tipboov? We've decided to put off our building work until spring. It was going to be a squeeze to get it finished and if the baby does have growth problems she may arrive quite early, so we decided it would actually be less stressful to wait!

ElodieS · 25/08/2016 16:20

Turnips, Everado would be awesome! Wink

Glad to hear you’re doing well this morning nojo.

I really like Aoife Hannah, but we don’t have a speck of Irishness in our family so don’t feel we could ever use it. Thanks Solomon, we may well end up going with Ezra, I also decided today that I quite like Patrick.

Solomon, I don’t know if it’s any reassurance but I had a friend who recently delivered a lovely, healthy little boy who was told the same thing about legs not growing as much or as quickly as they’d like. She ended up having lots more scans and provided they did keep growing they weren’t too worried – she had an ELCS at 38 weeks and he’s on the small side (as are the mum and dad) but really healthy and doing great. Try not to worry too much, although I know it can be really scary when you don’t just get the “yep, all ok, on your way!” that you’re looking for. Take care.

SouthDownsSunshine · 25/08/2016 16:47

Solomon sorry to hear the growth scan wasn't the smooth ride you were expecting. Hopefully things will rebalance over the next 4 weeks x

Popskipiekin · 25/08/2016 17:17

The growth measured on these scans can be so worrying, can't it. And yet I struggle to believe it's all that accurate - the sonographer goes click-click and if they are a mm out your baby could jump up or down a whole centile group! But that's me being an uneducated layperson. I just know that I was promised a whopper of a DS1 and he came out totally average sized. And yet - my 21 week scan threw up some interesting measurements and instead of telling myself it's fine I got all in a tizz so I do know how much it can throw you. Fingers crossed things settle down for you Solomon.

Azure83 · 25/08/2016 17:27

Hannah how about Eira? I think it means snow so fitting for a winter baby!

TipBoov · 25/08/2016 17:53

Such a long time to wait again soloman, have they referred you to fetal medicine or just for another scan?

I've got a growth scan tomorrow, baby was measuring 25th percentile for everything except head circumference, which was slightly below 5th percentile. If she hasn't caught up/evened out tomorrow I'll be referred to fetal medicine. I'm worried because she was a frozen embryo (created 5 years ago) and I'm wondering if it could be caused by that Sad. Really hoping they just mismeasured.

Yes we're doing the renovations before she arrives (hopefully!) as I don't want any work to be done while she's here. Apart from it potentially disturbing nap times, any kind of disruption makes me really snappy and anxious. I have to have a very tidy house to be able to relax and I think the combination of building work and general baby mess would tip me over the edge! More so with it being winter and I won't be able to get out the house as much as in summer.

Appletree4 · 25/08/2016 18:42

New to this thread and just checking in...there's a lot to catch up on!
Based in Bristol (and would love to hear from anyone near by) due 24/12/16 and team yellow Smile

BristolLFR · 25/08/2016 18:44

Hi apple, where abouts are you? I'm close to Glos rd

daisychain07 · 25/08/2016 18:48

Hi there. I have been following this group daily since the first thread but haven't wanted to post as been to nervous following a missed miscarriage earlier in the year. Due on 24/12/16 and team blue! At the 20 week scan I was told the placenta is fully covering the cervix, has anyone else been told this? I have a follow up scan. At 32 weeks to see if it has moved.

I also would like recommendation on travel systems people are going for. I went at the weekend and I just couldn't get the icandy Apple to collapse and felt very silly in the shop!!!!!

Appletree4 · 25/08/2016 18:50

Hi BristolLFR I'm in Kingswood and was planning to book onto an NCT course to build up my network as I'm fairly new to these parts but the ones I had seen are now fully booked! Hmm

Nojo82 · 25/08/2016 18:50

hannah Aoife is a nice irish name.

We have chosen Zain Dáire. Arabic/irish.. it could actually change but at the minute we are happy with that..

BristolLFR · 25/08/2016 18:55

Have you asked your midwife about the NHS classes apple? I've got an appointment next week so going to ask then as keen to do all the classes I can!

Also booked on to NCT in Redland in oct, but they did fill up quick I think.

Are there mum and baby groups near you? Sure you'll meet people at those too

Minispringroll · 25/08/2016 19:02

Appletree I've got the same problem. There are no NCT courses in Weston for my birth date. (There are some in Cardiff...guess I could paddle across.) I did, however, find a Daisy Birthing one locally. I'm not sure how similar or different they are. Could that be an option? I'll also have a look at NHS ones, because DH wants to come and not feel left out...and we'll probably book a tour at St Michael's at some point.
Additionally, I might also start an aquanatal course with Puddleducks. I've been doing normal aqua sessions at the gym and they are happy for me to keep going, but they aren't meant for pregnancy.

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 19:03

Daisy it takes a while to get your head round folding travel systems, after a few days weeks you'll be a pro. I used to be able to put our silver cross down and in the car with one hand, whilst holding DD in the other!

StubbleTurnips · 25/08/2016 19:04

spring ask you midwife if there's any nhs led aquanatal classes. There are lots here that are free, the puddleduck ones weren't great when I did them and a rip off
