I should probably add you need to be an amazon prime customer Blush

goinggrey1978 · 21/08/2016 13:10

Bigfam, I have the tommee tippee perfect prep machine, but was advised not to get a tommee tippee bottle steriliser as they break, so I have an advent steriliser set with bottles, breast pump, teats etc, I've been told you can use the perfect prep with any bottles and its well worth the money!!

Bigfam · 21/08/2016 13:20

Really goinggrey1978 ? I thought they'd only work with tommee tippee bottles... looks like another item has been added to my list Smile thanks for letting me know. Is it likely to be cheaper on black friday or shall I order it now?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 21/08/2016 13:22

Perfect prep is amazing and can be used with any bottle. I managed to pick up one brand new for someone on a selling page.

I have 7sleepsuits and 7long vests and a winter coat and a coming home outfit. Do you think this is enough to get on with?? My thinking is people will buy clothes once bean is born. And plus then it's the Christmas sales so might be able to pick up more. X

firawla · 21/08/2016 13:46

love I've got about that much too, although bit more in 0-3. I keep thinking I've bought loads but then when I see how much per size it's not too bad (I've bought stuff up to 1 yr!) I'll probably pick up a few more bits as and when I see sales, or maybe after growth scan at 34 weeks if I get an idea how big she'll be. My others have varied a lot with ds2 in 0-3 almost straight away (9.5lber) and ds3 only 6lb so in the newborn and 1 month stuff much longer.

goinggrey1978 · 21/08/2016 14:41

bigfam, black friday sale event is not until friday 25th of november and i decided that is leaving it all a little too late and got mine from smyths for just a bit over 60 quid, thats a very good price you've got there, i would get it sooner rather than later, or it may just sell out!!
Lovewatchingrainfall, it kind of depends if you have a tumble dryer, i don't so have plenty of baby grows, vests (was advised to get short sleeve vests or vest type bodysuits as overwise babies get too hot with a baby grow over the top, so have both), grow bags, mittens, hats and blankets, don't forget you'll need at least 2 sets of crib bedding for during the night explosions!! and a mattress protector also!! plus babies are not recommended to wear coats or snow suits in their car seats but to use blankets once they are strapped into the car seat it's advised as a lot more safe for them! toys r us and asda are best for crib bedding, click and collect is my new friend!!
plus there's also nappies, cotton pads, nappy rash cream, bath soap and bath support, dummies, milton, bottles and a few new born toys to keep your little one entertained!!

Thisisbonkers · 21/08/2016 14:50

Can somebody kindly explain the difference between body suits and sleep suits? So I've bought some sleep suits with long sleeves and feet, do I also need body suits? As they seem to be long or short sleeves but no legs? What goes on the bottom half? Or do they go under sleep suits? I feel such a dunce but I'm utterly clueless!

And the grobag things. I was looking at them in asda. I appreciate they are from a certain size only (but 8lb something, so not huge), but they are only 2.5 tog. Will they have warmer ones in winter, or is that enough? They have no sleeves?!

Bigfam · 21/08/2016 15:25

goinggrey1978 i completely forgot it was that late in november.... Baby's due on the 9th so that is cutting it a bit close.
Thisisbonkers I'm not sure but I thought 2.5tog was considered quite high for a baby and suitable for use in winter.

goinggrey1978 · 21/08/2016 15:30

Thisisbonkers, as far as i'm aware this is how i understand baby clothing to be:-
baby grows - wear over the top of bodysuits/vests with poppers, baby grows have poppers down the centre of the tummy and down both legs the have feet and some have turn over bits to use as scratch mit's as well
body suits - are vests with poppers at the nappy, come in vest type, short sleeve vest type and also long sleeved type, no scratch mit's attached
grow bags - are for night time only and you use them without blankets or sheets, they are designed to avoid babies kicking covers off and to keep them warm at night, i've only come across no sleeve grow bags so far, 1.0tog and 2.5tog so far
hope this helps, not an expert as first baby but worked with babies and children for over 20 years!

billabye · 21/08/2016 15:31

Thisisbonkers a body suit is like a vest and a sleep suit is what is call a baby grow. In winter I'd dress baby in both. The sleeping bags sound low tog compared to our duvets but a 2.5 is warm enough for most winter nights. Some have sleeves but most don't. I think I heard that the sleeveless are safer. If it's colder just put more layers under the sleeping bag. Hope that makes sense.

goinggrey1978 · 21/08/2016 15:37

bigfam you can probably get some next sized bargains or next car seat in the black friday sales though, i'm planning to purchase the high chair or booster seat in the easter sales and most likely the stage 1+ car seat in the next years august bank hoilday sales, thats all i've forward planned so far, i'm thinking of acquiring a jumperoo and baby walker on the 2nd hand selling sites along with stair gates as and when i need them as i know the jumperoo is only really used between 4 and 8 months and is really expensive but really good for babies along with a baby walker!!

Thisisbonkers · 21/08/2016 15:39

Thank you! It's all been driving me mad! I'm so clueless, poor JuniorBonkers 😄 I shall get some of each then, and a Grobag at 2.5 tog.

SolomanDaisy · 21/08/2016 16:02

The grobags come with a room thermometer and a guide to what clothes the baby should have on at different temperatures. Very handy!

billabye · 21/08/2016 16:14

I'd get 2 or 3 sleeping bags in case of puke/poo explosions. The supermarket ones are cheap and perfectly fine. In my experience the ones that zip two thirds of the way around the side are easiest to use for nappy changes.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 21/08/2016 16:42

Wow there is so much to take it. My DD was only 5lb at birth so with in tiny clothes for so long. Even tho it was only 3 years ago I have forgotten so much thank you all for your advice and that list was so helpful I have wrote it down as a checklist.

TipBoov · 21/08/2016 16:46

Gro company do 3.5 tog but that's for really cold rooms - below 16c.

The Amazon code BABYGC16 gives £15 off any spend over £60, I've just ordered the car seat we wanted (maxi cosi cabriofix) for £77! It's £135 at John Lewis so I'm very happy with that!

TipBoov · 21/08/2016 16:46

Forgot to say thanks bigfam !

Bigfam · 21/08/2016 16:57

TipBoov i didn't know that, thought it was only on the perfect prep so thanks in return 😀

TipBoov · 21/08/2016 17:12

I thought it would be worth a try! I'm not sure whether to get the perfect prep, I think I'll see how breastfeeding goes, but will buy some bottles and ready made cartons just incase, and but the perfect prep if needed.

We didn't buy any bottles with DS as I was adamant I'd be breastfeeding. It didn't quite go to plan and poor DH was driving around in the middle of the night to find some formula on Easter Monday.. I don't want a repeat of that!

Bigfam · 21/08/2016 18:09

I'm thinking about getting that car seat now as well TipBoov
I did buy a group 0-1+ car seat but it doesn't recline far enough for my liking & if I get the adaptors I can use it with the oyster pram, hmmmmm decisions...

DartmoorDoughnut · 21/08/2016 18:16

Grobags come in a 3.5tog too, luckily I have two left from DS in 0-6month!

A 3.5 tog in a insulated house, that has central heating on is likely to be too warm for a newborn and increases to the SIDS risk.

We live in our loft space, and with our gro-egg it gets below 10 degrees in winter - I won't consider a 3.5 tog. A 2.5 with extra covers if they are feeling the cold. DD always sleeps better in near arctic conditions anyway but please be careful with making them too warm in their sleep.

TipBoov · 21/08/2016 20:05

I got a pack of two gro bags for £20 in John Lewis a couple of weeks ago, but that style is full price online so may be worth checking your local.
