New thread - the one where we stop being pregnant and become new mamas! So close to the end. Exciting!

Good luck for tomorrow ladies!

I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow and feel so differently this pregnancy. Last time I was quite prepared to go to 42 weeks (he arrived 39+6), enjoyed nesting and chilling out.

This time poor dc2 had no clothes until last week, still finishing my ds's new bedroom, feel underprepared but still want this baby out sooner rather than later! Even though I have no idea how you cope with a newborn and a toddler Confused

quitecrunchy · 31/07/2016 20:43

Good luck tomorrow pear and alfie! Sorry to hear you're not getting the birth you'd planned alfie, that must be disappointing. Sounds like you've got some well rounded advice from your midwife though and you'll be putting yourself in the best position to still have a positive birth experience, even if it's not the same as you were geared up for.

I can't remember who else was talking about shoulder dystocia, is it something they get concerned about due to positioning from a scan or is it more just to do with the size of the baby? I've been thinking a lot about positioning as I've been told at my last couple of appointments that baby's back to back. Been doing all the on all fours thing but I've also read that there's not really any evidence that it makes a difference and it really comes down to whether baby decides to turn round once labour's started. I'm keeping at it anyway though - can't hurt at least! Anyone any experience of turning an OP baby?

Thanks ladies. Just back from my last supper with DH and DS. My waters broke again in Pizza Express but thankfully the hand dryer quickly fixed me up. The glamour!!! Grin I'm really looking forward to meeting my little girl now. It's been a roller coaster ride all weekend in tears and feeling pretty frustrated and mainly taking it out on my poor poor DH but now I am ready to face the music tomorrow. We have somehow turned our house around in 24hrs and I even brought a new changing mat today on the way back from hospital. Going to bed in a minute as have to be up at the crack of dawn to give birth Wink

Best of luck Alfie my induction buddy! We can do this. Our bodies are designed to do this Wink xx

Hope everyone else has a good nights sleep and week ahead...especially those who're starting to relax or feel frustrated waiting about!

Belager · 31/07/2016 21:21

Good luck pear and alfie!

ToElleWithIt · 31/07/2016 21:22

Very best of luck for tomorrow pear and Alfie Can't wait to hear your news.

quite crunchy my DS was back-to-back. I tried all the recommended tricks to turn him, but nothing worked. I went into labour with him OP and he stayed that way until I was fully dilated. Tried pushing with no joy at which point midwife suggested positioning me with various blocks etc and leaving me for an hour to try to turn him and it worked! I had opted for an epidural at about 7cm so I doubt this would have been an option without it. His vital signs showed he was happy so that was a factor too. Was delighted as he was then born after 30 mins of pushing. This one was in the proper position right up until last week and has bloody well flipped over to now be back-to back like its brother. Still not engaged so there's hope, but I was really hoping to avoid it this time. I'm now 39w and will see consultant again on Thursday and if baby isn't here by then will have a chat about an induction. Anyone any thoughts on this? Consultant thinks baby looks to be heading for the 9lb mark with a big head. I know the scans are inaccurate, but DS was that weight at 40w and head 99 percentile and his view was that while I have birthed a baby that size before that we maybe don't want to give baby the opportunity to cook further and get even bigger (gulps and crosses legs). That said, I'd way rather go myself and avoid induction. Is an induction on a second labour (after previous spontaneous) easier? Anyone any thoughts / experience?

plimsolls · 31/07/2016 21:42

Woooo! Good luck pear and alfie

peardrop2 · 31/07/2016 21:55

ToElle - the midwifes keep telling me that an induction 2nd time round is a lot quicker just because birth in general is quicker second time round because your body knows what to do. However, I still have my doubts and will soon let you know my reality answer Wink

peardrop2 · 31/07/2016 21:56

Thanks for all the luck messages Smile

rumisyum · 31/07/2016 22:17

Good luck tomorrow, pear! I had same experience as you (though not as relaxed a weekend! Good work!) & once my induction got going all went really quickly & smoothly. Fingers crossed it's the same for you!

Alfie I'm sorry you're not getting the birth experience you wanted. I planned for home births with both my two & both were born in the hospital delivery suite! I had positive experiences both times for my births, especially my first. So I wish you an incredible, positive & empowering experience, as well as a safe delivery. I know it's possible. Smile

ToElle my induction was most straightforward. Intense, but not unmanageable. I think biscuits had the same experience?

Hurrah for August & more babies! Grin

Basketofwool · 31/07/2016 22:21

Good luck to ladies about to meet their little ones! I'm only a tiny bit jealous!

I've started to suffer from SPD this last week (I'm 40+2 now) after not having it through the entire pregnancy. All I can say is, massive sympathy to anyone who has been suffering with this for a while, it's awful. I'm really hoping it means baby is getting into position.

bearhuggy · 31/07/2016 22:58

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the lack of posts, it's been quite an exciting week and I am thrilled to announce the safe arrival of baby Theodore 'Ted' James Henry who arrived on Tue 26th July at 02:03am, weighing 7lb 11oz. We are home and settling into life with a new tiny babe and getting to know one another.

Here is a picture of Ted from earlier today, enjoying a post feed snooze :)

I will find time this week to catch up on all the goings on and I hope everyone is doing really well.

Take care.

I was induced with my first and it was a positive experience and I'd happily be induced again. I only need G&A and had no other intervention so those being induced don't worry hooefulky your experience will be like mine.

OwlinaTree · 31/07/2016 23:26

pear and alfie all the luck for tomorrow, hope everything goes quickly and smoothly - wishing sneeze births for you both.
Am just checking in, not replying properly as really need to sleep! But am still reading & keeping up, and thinking of you all. Can't believe how many August babies are here already, so many impatient little ones. Commiserations to everyone still plodding on. At least it's cooled down a bit!

plimsolls · 01/08/2016 08:28

Congratulations bear! He's adorable and I love the name.

This is all so exciting. So many babies.

I can't believe I still have four weeks to go!

quitecrunchy · 01/08/2016 09:03

Congratulations bear! He's adorable. Those little toes!

Elle that's cool that you got baby turned at that stage, how did they position you and how did that work with having had the epidural? Also when you say you don't think it would've happened without the epidural why was that? I'm due to be at my local midwife led unit so no option of epi there but preparing myself for the possibility that I might need to get transferred to the nearest city if things aren't progressing. Hope both mine and yours just do us a favour and flip over!

MrsPMT23 · 01/08/2016 12:16

Oh bear he's absolutely beautiful, congratulations.

Good luck pear and Alfie hope all is going well :-)

Thought I was nesting a few weeks ago but reached a whole new level this morning - want to clean and sort everything and smell washing powder, yummmm!

How's everyone doing today?

AddictedtoGreys · 01/08/2016 14:47

Hi everyone! I am due 27th August, been to see midwife today and baby is 3/5 engaged. feeling lots of pressure and pushing down! Hoping baby will get to 37w but happy for it to come anytime after that Grin

BerylMeeps · 01/08/2016 16:08

In labour, 3cms dilated, wish me luck! Will update when it's here ladies.

Congrats bear!

CheeseandGherkins · 01/08/2016 16:10

Bear congratulations, he's lovely

Quite I've had two back to back babies. Both fast labours and one came out back to back. I'm not sure whether ds2 turned or came out back to back as well but he was 8lb 2 and no tears. No tears with dd3 who was born op either but at 34 weeks weighing 6lbs. She was also semi induced. All I had was a short time of gas and air. She was born 45 mins after I arrived at hospital, I was already 7cms.

Baby feels very low today, lots of stingy cervix pains. Been to hospital to visit my grandad today for a few hours, he was quite bright but one of the tumours is causing him problems eating and drinking now, only soft foods like soup and he's still choking on them. Hoping he hangs on to meet this little one.

Very tired and not sleeping that well. How are the inductions going? Looking forward to hearing good news about more babies being born soon
