New thread - the one where we stop being pregnant and become new mamas! So close to the end. Exciting!

Did they have you hooked up to two monitors and the pushy button? I think one monitors the heartrate and the other any possible contractions. I may be wrong but I think the look at the relationship between when baby is moving, its heartrate and any contractions, and this shows them whether there is any distress. If her cord was round her neck, I'm pretty sure her heartrate would be raised.

There's a better explanation here: www.babycenter.com/0_nonstress-test_1272943.bc?page=2 They will basically have checked that baby's heartrate increased when she moved, and will have assessed that that did happen so all is ok.

But if now you're home, if you still feel reduced movement, don't be afraid to ring up again.

CheeseandGherkins · 30/07/2016 16:08

Christine if you aren't reassured and are still having reduced movements then definitely call back again. All the monitoring shows is the snapshot of that exact time. Same for scans but at least they can check for more during them. I would insist on them doing a scan and not waiting for more occurrences. It doesn't sound as though they did a good job of reassuring you today. Rather than worry I would definitely go back if you need to. You monitoring movements will be a better idea of what's happening right now and should be what you go on as anything can change over the course of an hour, let alone longer. Hope everything will be ok

OohMavis · 30/07/2016 19:20

Nesting instinct is well and truly underway for me too. 10pm last night I was scrubbing the top of the extractor fan Confused

My house has never been so clean. It's lovely. Though now I'm eyeing up the smudges on the walls and wondering how tiring it would be to repaint.

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 19:46

Haha Mavis I'm exactly the same - the walls had some marks on and I tried to wipe them off but just made a smear of paint, so have told OH that painting the kitchen is the next job! It's like the more I clean the dirtier other bits of the house look :-(

Christinedonna · 30/07/2016 20:17

Movements have picked up!

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 20:30

Ha ha you're all mad Grin Just don't over do it! That being said I've been allowed home for a few hours and before I started to relax I tidied my bedroom and washed clothes like a mad women. To be fair I know my hours are numbered!

Christine glad to hear it's picked up for you! Must be a relief Smile

Has anyone brought the baby bay and if so what mattress did you invest in? Last time I got a green sheep mattress but it was so thin and expensive I'm considering other options if I can find one!

LotsOfDots · 30/07/2016 20:45

I don't seem to do nesting. I seem to recall my DH and my Mum nesting by proxy on the previous occasions - DH is now on leave so expecting that to kick in now!

Had a nice family day today and the older DC were nice to each other nearly all day, such a relief after the bickering of late!

39+3 here, I think I must be a fan oven or a slow cooker rather than the microwaves that the rest of the thread appear to be!

sophia I am keen for an early induction. I went 10 days over with DD1 and that was more than long enough. I am also concerned as this baby is measuring big and I am a bit older than the last 2 times (37 now) so I worry about placental deterioration. In some trusts I think that officially makes me a geriatric mother, but not my local one. Being a medic doesn't help in these situations as we generally only see the things that go wrong in hospitals and not all the lovely straight forward births that never go near a doctor!

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 21:33

Great news Christine :-) Mine is always more active in the afternoon and evening but I always worry until I feel him move in the morning.

Christinedonna · 30/07/2016 21:39

it was just this morning there was nothing, I normally wake up to her moving around but nothing. I was poking her, while handedly pushing her, moving around and nothing, that's not something you can ignore. I second what someone said the other day about it being worring that right now she's solely my responsibility..she's 100% relying on me to notice if there's something wrong with her, there's no panic button in there or way of her telling me somethings wrong so any gut feeling I have I will run with. Probably why I gave the doctor such a hard time about it..i can only ask for help, I should have felt like I was in good hands. But anyway! Sigh of relief, was treated to a naughty kebab too! Made me feel so releaved and happy that she was going mad under her daddy's hand earlier..like "mummy worries too much, il move for you" we've concluded we have a trouble maker on our hands! Thank you everyone for your reassuring words

Biscuitswithtea · 30/07/2016 23:11

Glad you're feeling more movements Christine :) And you're right - you know your body & baby's patterns best.

Hope you enjoyed your well-earned nosh after all the worry :)

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 31/07/2016 08:00

I also ended up going in for monitoring in the end - all was good on the CTG. Had trace leukocyte and blood in my urine though so they took blood and its come back as one of my liver function markers is not so good. So I'm off for a scan today and more bloods. Hoping everything is alright and they will still allow me to have a homebirth! Thankfully bubs has been active yesterday and this morning so I'm just trying not to worry. They asked me about itching on my hands and feet and bump so I think they are concerned about OC? But I've had no symptoms of it at all. Anybody any experience? Dr did say it could just be w one off which is why they want to check again.

lots I haven't really nested either much to my DHs disappointment haha. My dogs have gone to stay with my mum for the week though so I think I'll crack on with cleaning today. Maybe mavis and sophis could pop round when you are done at home?!

christine it was me worrying about sole responsibility! It's so nerve wracking isn't it - especially now that we are so close to the end. Glad she has been moving around again now.

sophia how are you getting on? No more progress?

pear glad they've let you out for a bit even if it just gives you time to get a few things in order. Have you packed your bags etc now? Inducing Monday?

Sorry to anybody missed - on my phone so can only see the current page.

CheeseandGherkins · 31/07/2016 11:21

Christina glad movements picked up, hope you have a relaxing day

Alfie glad the monitoring went well. Hope your bloods come back better but if not then it's good they've picked up on it. I've read about oc before and I know they like to induce early with it.

Lots I feel like I'm nesting but struggle to do much! Getting my bag packed today I think and have washed baby clothes and sorted the Moses basket almost!

I'm feeling odd today. Anxious and keep getting tightenings. Wondering whether things are starting to happen slowly. She looks and feels low today as well. Probably nothing but I'm keeping an eye on things and trying to relax. Done this so many times before but I'm still scared!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 31/07/2016 12:00

cheese yes I've read that they prefer to induce but I have no actual symptoms so I'm hoping it's just a odd set of results.
I have felt a wee bit anxious now and then too, I'm sure it's the not knowing when it will happen that makes us feel worried. Even if you've done it before it's the uncertainty I think!

bexh83 · 31/07/2016 14:55

Sophia im the same as you last day at work on Friday - Im not sure what to do tommorrow! will need the baby to come to "switch-off".

Lou you asked about increased movements - mines gone crazy these last few days - really sqirmy, but maybe im noticing more sittign and laying down more.

Feel like having a moan about my midwife - who cannot seem to use a tape measure without freaking out and sending me for a scan (I get the feeling the hospital are annoyed now too)- but im hoping my 38wk one just past will be the last time our paths have to cross and baby will be here soon!

peardrop2 · 31/07/2016 17:55

Alfie - oh dear that doesn't sound like fun...I dislike it when you discover new things about yourself that you didn't even know existed! I take it they've let you go home then? That's my serious marker...if you're allowed home then I always say to myself it can't be that bad and it's going to be OK Smile

Not much going on with me. Period pains on and off and tightenings on and off. More waters breaking so more washing to do! I'm currently bouncing on my ball as I really don't know what else to do! I slept well at home last night. DH and I are taking DS out for dinner soon. Our last supper as 3 Wink Off to the hospital at 7am tomorrow to be induced! Come on baby...come and surprise us tonight Grin

peardrop2 · 31/07/2016 17:56

bex that sounds mega frustrating! It varies so much from midwife to midwife! My local one is like a cold robot Grin I was very relieved to hear it was very unlikely she would be at the hospital when I gave birth. I shouldn't tempt fate. Perhaps she's amazing at the hospital Wink

peardrop2 · 31/07/2016 17:58

Oh and sorry can I just share the amazing deal my DH has got me!!! By complete fluke he brought a cacoonababy red castle sleep mattress for £28 on Amazon!! I think the seller was trying to get rid of stock as there was only one left. They retail at £130 so I am over the moon with him which makes up for my horrible irritable and irrational behaviour towards him this week Blush

Christinedonna · 31/07/2016 18:40

bex when my midwife measures me she seems to put the tape really low down..like right before there's no one left to put it without slipping and giving me an accidental internal. So when they measured me at the hospital yesterday (how they should) there was an all of a sudden "the midwife is worried about your baby measuring small" from the doctor..who then determined that it's fine as the baby's head is so low down. Just seems like everywhere you go, everyone has something different to say and it's a little off putting. I feel like you can't take anyone's word for anything because it always seems more opinion than fact

bexh83 · 31/07/2016 19:03

Christine - I agree and at least by now im used to it - first time round I was really worried (shes about 4cm out consistently), second a little blase.... now im asking where I can go get a second option each time. Whats betting my baby is HUGE when it comes to it. :)

Christinedonna · 31/07/2016 19:07

I'm told she's a week ahead every time. But when I was given an estimated weight at the hospital after a scan at 32/33 weeks she was at the very lower end of average. At first I was expecting this huge baby but now I'm not so sure

Biscuitswithtea · 31/07/2016 19:32

Bump measurement is so vague! There doesn't seem to be much consistency between how health professionals measure. But also, surely baby's position and the relative volume of fluid will affect a bump measurement? As I understand it, a scan is a bit more accurate but not totally reliable either - presumably because babies grow in fits and starts, rather than by following a totally steady predictable line...

Tomorrow is August! Let the August babies commence :)

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 31/07/2016 19:46

pear they let me go home and then brought me in for a scan today at which point baby measured 9lb5 and was above 95th for nearly every measurement. So they offered indication as I'm 39weeeks tomorrow anyway with an odd liver marker and they are concerned about should dystocia. Had a long chat with my pro homebirth community midwife and lots of sobs to DH about it all but I've decided to accept induction. I'm terrified really but my when my community midwife said she would be concerned about shoulder dystocia and the fact that it's my first baby I think I'm best to get on with it and be in hospital. They are going to give me the peasant and then If they can break my waters they said that I can go to labour ward and continue on my own. Eeeek!
So could be two new babies tomorrow!

OwlinaTree · 31/07/2016 20:05

Good luck Alfie, hopefully the pessary will start you going and you will be able to go it alone. Fx for you.

Good luck to you too peardrop, hope you have a lovely evening, and that it goes well for you tomorrow.

Me and dh went out to celebrate our wedding anniversary last night, ds went to granny's house. Was so lovely to be able to chat and relax, life has been so busy here getting ready for the baby and working etc. Lovely lie in this morning, I slept till about 930am!

Have managed to move ds's clothes into his new bedroom today, so got all the newborn clothes out and into the wardrobe. They are so so tiny! I can't believe he was that small. This baby is going to be much smaller according to all the scans, so we might even need smaller clothes than newborn, going to wait and see on that one.

CheeseandGherkins · 31/07/2016 20:12

Good luck for tomorrow pear and Alfie, very exciting. I hope all goes well and it's nice and quick.

Owl I know what you mean about the baby clothes, I couldn't believe mine were ever that small either!

Nothing happening here, been watching films on Netflix and having a much needed rest today. Dh took the little ones out which was lovely. I'm still tired somehow though.

LotsOfDots · 31/07/2016 20:36

Good luck for tomorrow pear and alfie.

We have some newborn clothes looked out that we had for DD1. She is 8, and tall for her age. They blow my mind that she ever fitted in them!
