Sophia I'm 38+2 so nearly there! Trying not to get my hopes up that he may be on his way as everyone keeps telling me he will be late anyway and I'm rather impatient!
I saw your post about the suprise sweep that must have been horrible for you!
Think Iv decided to just see how comfortable/uncomfortable I am by the time I see her and make my decision based on that

Beryl hope things keep progressing for you and your not uncomfortable for too long!

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 02:44

Hi everyone! I'm really sorry that I haven't posted for what feels like ages!! My waters broke yesterday at 35+4 and now I'm in hospital and can't sleep Sad Mainly because they won't stop gushing which keeps waking me up when I drift off and I've just had to have my sheets changed Blush My bump is so tiny I don't get where all the water is coming from!! Anyway, I'm on antibiotics and will be induced on Monday if things haven't progressed. I had a tearful moment with the midwife tonight because I remember how painful being induced with my son was and I was hoping to have a very calm birth using Hypnobirthing tools this time without using an epidural etc. However, I've just got to get in the right frame of mind and think positive thoughts!! Easier said then done Confused

Biscuitswithtea · 30/07/2016 05:24

Pear, yikes! That must have caught you on the hop!

Please try not to worry about induction too much (easier said than done, I know). My DD was born on the 12th July by induction following my waters going unexpectedly. Induction made it intense and fast but despite previously tearing with DS & 2x PPHs, I came away from DD's childbirth without a graze.

Do you have music you can listen to? I put earphones in when the hospital noise got too distracting in labour! It did help a bit...

In the meantime you're in the best place.

Hope everyone is doing okay. Late pregnancy is mighty uncomfy :( I would second or third! whoever said pls get reassurance for reduced movements. It's not worth not contacting the hospital if you're worried.

rumisyum · 30/07/2016 05:37

Good luck, pear! I had same experience - waters went early, I had hoped for calm, hypnobirthing, water birth at home, & was s bit scared of induction, but actually I managed it all with my TENS machine & not so much as a graze on my perineum either. It was fine in the end, intense, the monitoring & drip was a faff, but actually all fine. Hope you get on ok & get to meet your little one very soon! I know what you mean about the gushing though, that bothered me at first as well! Got through so many pads...

rumisyum · 30/07/2016 05:41

Oh & do try to get some rest - it will help a lot. Headphones to cancel out the ward noise & an eye mask might help. Fingers crossed things kick off on their own for you anyway.

rumisyum · 30/07/2016 05:55

Hurrah for finishing work, Sophia!

Hope you're getting on ok Beryl.

I'm sorry there's been so much anxiety about movements - always worth just getting checked out, I think.

ellie that all sounds very uncomfortable- hope it's either baby on the way very soon, or it settles down asap!

Hope everyone is holding out ok & not getting too uncomfortable or fed up. Late pregnancy is such an odd time in many ways. And I hope there's another wave of babies on the way soon for those of you who are getting fed up!

OohMavis · 30/07/2016 06:15

Hope everone is doing well Flowers

Can I ask, is anyone not feeling any kicks in their ribs?! With my last two I was constantly sore from it by now (37 weeks) but this baby seems to hang out a few inches lower, poking her little feet out of my sides. She never lands kicks high up.

I dunno its way too early to be up and I'm worrying about every little thing.

Christinedonna · 30/07/2016 06:23

Think I'm going to make a trip to the hospital myself. She's just not been as active as she normally is, yesterday and today. Won't be able to stop worrying until I know

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 06:53

Biscuits surprise is one way of putting it :-( I had nothing ready. No hospital bag, no car seat down from the attic, hardly anything washed, don't even know what state the Moses basket is in, no batch cooking done, no playlist prepared...nothing :-( Thanks for your reassurance though...I had a 3b tear last time and I just can't stop replaying the nightmare in my head of feeling so exhausted from staying in hospital 2 days before giving birth just like this experience. It's good to hear that you went through it too without any damage to show!

rumi I'm absolutely kicking myself for not having a playlist!! Or headphones! I don't even have a tens machine yet :-( I will ask about hiring one today at the hospital.

Ohh snap! My son constantly hanged like a monkey and kicked my ribs constantly but this little girl is lower and to the side like you describe.

I also agree with everyone...if you're worried at all give the ward a call about movements. It feels like such a faff and OTT at the time but they're so happy to check. I'm in hospital and even I woke up worried that I haven't felt the baby for a few hours so they've put me back on the monitor for a while just to check.

Good luck Christine! I'm sure it will be fine but keep us posted.

Can't thank you ladies enough for your support right now FlowersFlowersFlowers

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 06:54

Oh forgot to say that midwife just checked if baby is engaged and she said yes and it's not going anywhere so that's one good thing!

Daytona79 · 30/07/2016 06:57

Pear don't worry about induction it's not always bad, my induction with my son was fine and I done it with just a bit of G&A , I got a internal tear but I was completely unaware of it, out of hospital 6 hours after birth and out walking with baby and my dogs the next day

So don't automatically think if you do go down that route again it will be bad.

You migh well breeze it

Good luck 👍🏻

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 07:15

Aww thanks Day! Gosh I really need to reprogram my mind to think it might not be bad second time round! Midwife just told me it's bound to be quicker second time... Don't know if that reassures me or not ConfusedGrin Quick in my head equals intense!

Biscuitswithtea · 30/07/2016 07:33

Pear - I was quite anxious about childbirth second time around and decided it was a fear of the known, rather than a fear of the unknown. But in the event, whilst DD's birth wasn't the zenish water birth that I dreamed of, the contrast to DS's birth was like chalk and cheese.
I can live without experiencing a water birth or seeing the inside of our local midwife led birthing unit...certainly can't keep having children on the off chance that eventually happens - my body doesn't seem very compliant with that idea! ;)

Hope you get the reassurance quickly Christine :)

Daytona79 · 30/07/2016 07:35

I think subsequent birth are generally quicker and easier in a lot of cases, as my MW says the first baby has paved the way. You will be fine I'm sure Flowers

Stay positive

peardrop2 · 30/07/2016 07:42

Thank you ladies Flowers

OK positive thoughts...chalk and cheese births coming my way Wink

CheeseandGherkins · 30/07/2016 08:56

Totally fed up, tired and worried today. Spent half the night awake, worrying about the scan and what will happen next. Best just get on with it and get out with the kids. Moving around is so difficult, my bump is huge and I feel so breathless all the time.

Must stop complaining. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 09:50

Mavis Mine seems to be in a sort of triangle, with head down and then bum to one side and his little feet pushing out towards my other side, so al the kicks are there :)

Hope all is well Christine - I'm sure it will be.

Pears That must have been such a shock but all baby needs is you to hold them when they arrive, and the rest can be sorted out by those around you.

rumisyum · 30/07/2016 11:34

Haha, biscuits, we do seem to have had similar experiences! Both times I've planned for home births, both times ended up on the delivery suite. But first birth with DS was super zen water birth, totally magical empowering experience. This one was very medicalised, but ultimately still straightforward & much better than I'd feared pear! Definitely chalk & cheese, but both positive. But I can't keep getting pregnant with the hope of having a magical home birth, I think I'm done now & resigned to fact that wasn't for me!

rumisyum · 30/07/2016 11:36

Hope the trip is v reassuring christine.

And sorry you're feeling so rough cheese, heavily pregnant women really deserve a to be carried around on palanquins & fed peeled grapes.

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 11:54

I think my nesting instinct has kicked in - am on a break from scrubbing kitchen floor and cleaning under fridge! Wish it had come a bit earlier though as it's knackering, but I am absolutely disgusted with how dirty it is so need to get it done! Live in a rented house with non-fitted kitchen and old lino that has a tendency to rip so I'm never going to get it perfect though. What is everyone else up to?

MrsPMT23 · 30/07/2016 12:20

Well done Sophia! Wish I had some of that energy. I have the same thing with my kitchen lino been driving me crazy the last few weeks.

Hope all is ok Christine

Feeling a bit off today and having lots of sharp pains down there and pelvis is feeling really achey. Has anyone else gone off of food a little bit? I'm not as hungry as I used to be. Think it's partly due to acid reflux coming back with a vengeance!

Ellie2008 · 30/07/2016 13:00

Now your making me feel guilty for being lazy haha,
So far today I have been and had some reflexology on my feet and ankles! So they actually resemble feet and ankles now instead of big swollen stumps, and now sitting outside watching the OH re-grout the patio, I definitely think he's stollen my nesting instinct! Not that I'm complaining

Hope all is well christine

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 13:24

Well I started cleaning the kitchen, pulled the fridge out and hoovered the filters, scrubbed a bit of floor - then felt like I was overdoing it so have now stopped and the kitchen is a right state!

Has anyone thought about when they would go ahead with an induction if they go over? Reading my hospital handbook and apparently you can have one from 41 weeks or wait till 42. As I suffer from anxiety, it's difficult for me not to think the best option is to get baby out healthily as soon as possible and not risk placenta deteriorating, but I don't know if I'm being irrational. Obviously hoping he comes naturally before then, but trying to prepare for fact he may not. Will be offered another sweep at midwife appointment on Thursday (40 weeks) so I guess that may get things going. So difficult being someone who likes control and answers and certainty and planning!

Christinedonna · 30/07/2016 14:19

Will catch up with everyone's posts in a second just thought I'd update you. They monitored her heartbeat for about 40 minutes and gave me the button to press whenever she moved. I pressed it about 3 or 4 times which is not normal for her at all! There seemed to be a lot of umming and ahhing over what they were going to do and in the end the doctor came to tell me to go home and come back if I was concerned. So I told him I was concerned hense my being here! He said her heartbeat is "beautiful" and as they don't only go by movement, I'm okay to go home. I was quite difficult and highlighted the fact that she really is usually a constant wriggler and now barely anything, there must be a reason for that..but he insisted she's fine. Apparently if I go back because of the same thing, that's when they'll do a scan. If anyone knows anything it would be great to be reassured but I just have a horrible image in my head of her having wrapped the cord around her neck and that being the reason she's restricted

Biscuitswithtea · 30/07/2016 14:39

Sorry you're not feeling as reassured as you'd like Christine. I would expect heartbeat monitoring to be more accurate at gauging how a baby is than movement monitoring; it's just that movement monitoring is the only thing we can do at home/on a day-to-day basis.

My experience is that maternity staff are cautious rather than complacent so if they say they're happy I'd take some comfort in that.
